Open borders principal: “We’ve been bloggercized”

By Michelle Malkin  •  December 21, 2007 06:57 AM

Hey, remember that Open Borders 101 high school course I blogged about last week–where the students put themselves in an illegal alien’s shoes and were taught how to evade the law and cook up schemes to fraudulently gain legal status, but were never taught to put themselves in the shoes of anyone who has a dissenting perspective on illegal immigration?

Well, the school has responded to the Internet backlash. They’re standing by the propagandizing teacher. Via the Columbus Dispatch:

The reaction was swift and sure, and it came from across the country.

A story in Saturday’s Dispatch about an immigration project run by Olentangy Liberty High School Spanish teacher Erica Vieyra sparked instant outrage. First, it drew fire from nationally syndicated conservative columnist Michelle Malkin, then from dozens of Internet bloggers before finally showing up on the Drudge Report, an online aggregator of news sites.

Before long, the e-mail inboxes of administrators filled up and national radio talk-show hosts called looking for interviews. Even CNN wanted a comment.

Though the district went through an Internet phenomenon once before, after the superintendent banned two books from a high-school summer reading list in 2006, the national attention this time around caught Liberty Principal Mark Raiff off guard. Locals, it seemed, weren’t calling or stopping Raiff on the street to complain. The story grew online.

“We’ve been bloggercized,” Raiff said.

The principal said Vieyra was teaching the kids “incredible things.” I’ll say:

Forty Spanish V students assumed make-believe Latino identities, researched life in their “home” countries and developed plans to get into the United States. The students first filled out actual paperwork from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and, after Vieyra denied them entry, they developed plans to sneak in.

The students researched places to live, work and bank. Then, by the end of the project, they devised a way to gain legal status, by marrying a citizen or becoming a student, for example.

So, these government-subsidized educators are teaching children how to subvert immigration law and learn the ways of the open borders racket. But we’re the “fringe” and the “mob:”

The fact that such a project drew national fire doesn’t surprise Ezra C. Escudero, director of Ohio’s Office of Hispanic/Latino Affairs. He said the immigration issue no longer has a middle ground.

“It has become a hypercharged, polarized debate on the fringe,” he said. “But it involves real people in real situations, and we must find a way to be able to discuss it civilly.”

That doesn’t happen much online, experts say. Kelly McBride is an ethics group leader at the Poynter Institute, a school for journalists in St. Petersburg, Fla.

“The Internet is a contact sport,” McBride said. Things that once would have been very local news stories now spread like wildfire, she said.

Those interviewed or involved, she said, often underestimate online reaction. “Once the snowball gets rolling there’s nothing you can do about it except recognize the Internet is a mob mentality and deal with it.”

What’s next? Teaching them how to counterfeit money? Maybe a little course on identity theft? Instead of teaching respect for the law they are teaching how to skirt the law. Real good lessons you are teaching. The government schools have become a plague on our society rather then something envisioned to produce to a smart, educated, and responsible citizen.
Extra credit for protesting the government but suspension for showing support for soldiers. Suspension for drawing pictures of a stick figure with a gun but building peace centers on the site of a building in a gun free zone that was the scene of the worst shooting on a college campus. Homework assignments requiring the kids to write nasty letters to soldiers but taking exception to saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
And in the coming years all these people will stand around wringing their hands and despairing how our society has deginerated to blatant lawlessness. You want a microcosm of what a society that embraces defying the law, look at the African American community with all of its problems, which in no small way are tied them embracing the hip-hop culture.

Let them see how hard it is to ever get your name cleared again, how much time they will have to spend in court and on lawyers. Have them call each other at all hours of the night, role playing collection agencies. For that true reality experience, have someone rent a tow truck and “repossess” their car for a week to pay for debts they never accrued.
Or have them role play a hospital administrator trying to find a way to pay for all the illegals who use the ER as thier primary care physician and never pay- let them see the direct result of this on the increased cost to everyone who legally uses the same services. Don’t forget to add in longer waiting times now!

The article goes on to equate the difficulty of adopting one of the students from a Russian agency to the plight of people trying to get legal citizenship. The implication being we force people to become illegal.

This is the letter I sent the author of the article in the Columbus Post Dispatch:

Next year the students should try and earn $10,000 in a single week, legally. That’s equivalent to the kind of income that “millionaires” make, and I think it would be valuable for the students to get an understanding of just how hard it is to make that kind of money.

Once they realized that they would likely need some capital to start their idea, along with a back-breaking work-ethic, the teacher can stamp a giant “DENIED” on their application for a small business loan.

Then they should be told to lay out the plans it would take to earn that money illegaly.

How much pot would they have to grow in their basement? How long would it take? Would they know how to process it? How about distribution?

How about smuggling prescription drugs here from Canada, for re-sale? What works best, a jeep across the border in North Dakota, or a boat across the Great Lakes?

Or perhaps they should plan a robbery that would net them $10,000 in a single hit. Where could they find that kind of cash in one place? How would they be sure that there weren’t dye-packs in with the money? Where would they get the weapons they’d likely want to carry with them?

Or let’s really work on empathy and plan the next terrorist attack. I’m sure that 17 year old students are mature enough to really get a lot out of “getting into the head” of Al Qaeda.

If we’re going to try to teach empathy for illegal acts and perps, lets not limit ourselves to illegal immigration. A well-trained criminal-candidate really should understand how criminals justify their acts (“I was denied an opportunity”) and then know the whole range of crimes available to them “to make things fair.”

There’s a *reason* that DENIED is stamped on those papers. Just because Vieyra disagrees with the reason doesn’t give her the right to encourage breaking the law.

A lot of people think that marijuana should be legal – but that doesn’t give them the right to grow and sell it. A lot of people think that the rich should be taxed more, but that doesn’t give them the right to break into affluent homes and take “their fair share.” A whole chunk of the world think that women should be – and I’m being charitable here – relegated to second class citizens. That doesn’t give them the right to try to convert us at sword point.

Vieyra might think that her approach is unbiased, but if hers is then so are these others.

Debate and discussion is one thing; training is quite another.

    I’m sure glad I don’t live in Columbus…

My contribution to the lesson plan would be to have half the class (say 20 or so) welded into a chevy passenger van with a gallon of water, and a big pot to poop in. Then left out in the desert to see how many would still be alive after a few days. Of course, don’t forget to charge each of their families a couple thousand dollars first.

The other half of the class would be robbed and raped. Then given backpacks filled with cocaine to deliver to the mexican mafia in Phoenix. Then after delivering the goods, be stuffed into another chevy passenger van, and driven to Chicago by a crazy man. They would wreck on the icy roads along I-70, just outside of Aspen. Hitting an American family headon and killing the whole family. Some in the van would be killed. The rest would run away.

Anyone, who made it to the local Chili’s, and got a job as a busboy, would get an “A”. Those who did not make it through would also get an “A”, because we wouldn’t want to hurt their feelings.

    Endless possibilities

A dandelion from outside a hothouse releases her seeds into the hothouse and the dandelions begin to use up all the water, soil, and sunlight. The native flowers, who remain silent for fear of appearing intolerant, begin to wither.

The God-like hothouse owner removes the dandelions. When the original dandelion sends in more seeds the native hothouse flowers use their roots and stems to push the dandelion seeds to the bottom of the hothouse, where they cannot grow. Seeing this, the dandelions outside the hothouse stop sending seeds in.

    Fight back.

Quite simply this: we are (supposedly) a country of laws. What kind of signal does it send when we teach in a public school how to circumvent(read: break) a law of the land?

This disregard for law starts at home, well before the children enter school. Be honest now, how many of us have been taking our children somewhere, and conveniently disregarded the speed limit? That’s breaking the law. Setting such an example before our children starts us on the slippery slope of total disregard for the rule of law.

At the very least, our schools should promote obeying laws, not flagrant disregard for them.

Unfortunately, that isn’t the case, and it’s much more widespread than just this particular school and teacher, we all know that.

What’s the harm, when we have college professors who build their entire careers on false pretenses? When discovered, blame someone/anyone else for finding them out – not for admitting they made a mistake.

What’s the harm in telling lies about our troops? What’s the harm in telling lies about the police? What’s the harm in writing laws that we have no intention of ever enforcing?

Haven’t we had enough of that? The harm is that we have an entire generation of children who honestly don’t know the difference between right and wrong! There IS such a thing as right, and there is such a thing as wrong. If we don’t teach these differences and absolutes to our children – and DEMONSTRATE them, then the absolute harm is that we no longer have a country where the rule of law is primary. It becomes complete and utter anarchy.

Can you honestly say you want your children, and their children, to grow up that way?

Yeah, that usually is how a right and wrong issue like illegal or legal gets to be.
Its pretty obviously wrong to be here against our wishes and taking the decision that belongs to us and giving it away to anybody that just so happens to be smart enough to take advantage of our generosity.

Those interviewed or involved, she said, often underestimate online reaction. “Once the snowball gets rolling there’s nothing you can do about it except recognize the Internet is a mob mentality and deal with it.”

Ok, got it. Thank you for teaching us, the internet public, about perspectives and practices of Spanish-speaking cultures. Let me see what I have learned from her:

Spanish-speaking cultures have no respect for the rule of law. They will violate national sovereignty with impunity. Furthermore they will encourage others to break the law. they will go so far as to indoctrinate the children of native citizens to learn how to circumnavigate the law as reasonable behavior. They think the citizens of the USA owe them entrance, health care, banking services and social services. If they can not legally take these things from US citizens, they will willingly break the law to do so and continue to break the law until they want to stop.

Great lesson, Teach! If I didn’t understand a lot more about the world, people and cultures than your warped project teaches, your education plan would give me a lot of ammunition to become a racist against Spanish speaking cultures. *stupid liberals*
