Both parents and the four siblings born in Mexico became U.S. citizens later.

Assuming the four illegal siblings were born first she would be a legal American due to the anchor-baby loophole.

Sen. Clinton on a ‘Hill-a-Copter’ tour of Iowa arranged by campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle. But soon the two were on the campaign trail, with a trip to Florida. “It was barely short of disaster,” Mrs. Clinton recalls. “Neither one of us knew what we were doing.”

But, but, I thought she was sooooooo "experienced" from her years in the White House!! Isn't that what her campaign keeps telling us?

And she wonders why another neophyte like Obama is nipping at her cankles!

I just caught a spare minute to come back and read over my last post, and aside from apologizing to you all for my blatant omissions and typos (my mind out races my hands when I type and I am heavily addicted to hitting "submit" before I proof read), I feel I need to clarify some points I was meagerly attempting to make.

First, I mentioned I live in eastern KY because back in the mid '80s, when I was earning my BS degree in Education at a local private college, I had a liberal social studies professor from someplace in Illinois tell me I could exploit my Appalachian heritage as a means of securing several lucrative scholarships. That even though I am a white American male, my place of birth qualified me as a "special minority group," as Appalachians exist as a sub-group living well outside the norm of American life, and I should use this to my advantage. I felt very insulted at this comment; it made me feel this professor doubted my abilities just because of where I was born! My point with this story is that I do have empathy and understanding for anyone who has been made to feel outside the mainstream of American life, because of some perceived societal difference, and that I was not denying Mrs. Solis her due - she definitely earned her achievements. I meant to imply that if we allow it, there are those in society who will continuously divide and sub-divide us and our nation into another loose confederation of states - divided on everything and united on nothing!

Second, while it makes perfect business sense to have as many college educated workers living in this nation as possible - regardless of their immigrant status or nationality - we simply can no longer afford to give scholarships away to every illegal who applies for one - especially if it means denying them to our own students, many of whom rely on these scholarships as their chance to attend college!

As I meant to say, I'm glad for Mrs. Solis' achievements, and were it within my power I would grant everyone living and or working in this country the chance to attend and pay for college, but we need to care for and educate our own students first.

I mean, she was born in America and was smart enough to earn a great scholarship. What more do you want?

Is ethnicity more important than merit?

And even if she were dragged over here when she was three, making her illegal, I don't think that matters. Why should the country devote its resources to an inferior candidate?

Being a white male living in the central Appalachians of eastern KY, I know the value of college scholarships - they can mean the difference between an education and the opportunity of achieving a better life, or a lifetime of poverty and semi-government dependency. And while I would never deny anyone a chance to better him or herself through a college education, I do feel college scholarships - especially those funded by the government are a privilege that should be available only to natural citizens.

In my part of the country there are too many intelligent students who deserve these scholarships - many of whom would never be able to afford/attend college without them! Many of these students are the descendants of families that have been in this nation since its founding and just happen to live in a region of the country that has seen significantly less economic development than the rest of the nation, thereby making a college degree a luxury their families simply cannot afford to bestow upon far too many of them.

With the ever increasing costs of a college education, we can no longer hand scholarships out to non-citizen who applies, regardless of empathy for their plight and desire to help, we must remain mindful of the needs of own citizens who themselves are in a place of great financial need.

To be fair to Mrs. Solis, I read in a related article that she is a natural born citizen of Illinois and is very gifted and deserving of her scholarship. But when considering the efficacy of giving out scholarships to illegal aliens, I think it is important that we keep in mind the many gifted students across this great nation who are in as dire a financial need of those scholarships as any illegal alien!

That scholarship was an investment in an obviously smart person (Northwestern is a fantastic school)…and that investment has paid off.
So, if she beat out an American citizen for that scholarship, that is OK? Sure, her Father broke the law when he entered. If she was a Mexican citizen, not admitted into the USA, she too was an illegal alien. Her fault? No. Yet, was it the US Citizen's fault? You know, the one who lost that same chance at an education because of who he or she was?

Is this meant to work people up that the daughter of an illegal immigrant is working on a presidential campaign?

Where was she born?

Is that really a bad thing? Should the daughter of a criminal not become a lawyer?
Nobody has suggested that. I think the point is that illegal aliens and their children should not TAKE away benefits away from American citizens.

The sins of our ancestors should have absolutely no bearing on the people we become.
Really? Tell that to people who are always bringing up slavery.....

Ref Chief RZ #28

I heard today on the radio that if you attend the U of Delaware and live in the dorms and you are “white” you must sign an agreement that all white people are racist!

I think I know the incident of which you wrote. It's not as simple as that, however it was part of an enforced multicultural exercise that one student of good conscience objected to. A thorough search of Dennis Prager's site and/or archived shows from the last year will probably yield more specifics.

Nice work.If we keep this crap up we'll scare the last two conservative Latinos into the Democratic Party.

Good grief. We really are intent on becoming a purist sect.
