Dave Lindorff calls himself an “award-winning journalist” who also happens to be an impeachment freak, 9/11 conspiracist, Mumia abu Jamal cheerleader, and one of the nutballs who accused President Bush of being wired during a 2004 debate with John Kerry (remember “Bush’s mystery bulge?”)
Now, he’s eagerly rooting for global warming to wipe out conservatives. They’ll lose Santa and the reindeer, but the upside is that the right-wing of America will sink into the sea, too!!!!!!
Say what you will about the looming catastrophe facing the world as the pace of global heating and polar melting accelerates. There is a silver lining.
Look at a map of the US.
The area that will by completely inundated by the rising ocean—and not in a century but in the lifetime of my two cats—are the American southeast, including the most populated area of Texas, almost all of Florida, most of Louisiana, and half of Alabama and Mississippi, as well as goodly portions of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina. While the northeast will also see some coastal flooding, its geography is such that that aside from a few projecting sandbars like Long Island and Cape Cod, the land rises fairly quickly to well above sea level. Sure, Boston, New York and Philadelphia will be threatened, but these are geographically confined areas that could lend themselves to protection by Dutch-style dikes. The West Coast too tends to rise rapidly to well above sea level in most places. Only down in Southern California towards the San Diego area is the ground closer to sea level.
So what we see is that huge swaths of conservative America are set to face a biblical deluge in a few more presidential cycles…
…There will be much work to be done to help the earth and its residents—human and non-human—survive this man-made catastrophe, and we can’t have these future refugee troglodytes, should their personal disasters still fail to make them recognize reality, mucking things up again.
It should be considered acceptable, in this stifling new world, to say, “Shut up. We told you this would happen.”

Assume for the moment that he is correct and the seas will come rushing in to destroy the “red” states. His logic assumes that my conservatism stems from where I LIVE, not from whom I AM. It shows in sharp relief the liberals basic lack of understanding that conservatism flows from basic beliefs that we hold inside ourselves: God, Family, Country, Honor….all these things have nothing to do with my zip code, and everything to do with my faith in my God, my self and my country. All of the things your basic liberal lacks.
I of course am sure that the “facts” this guy is spewing are best left to fertilize the garden. I am also sure that when in ten years the coasts are not under water, that he will give credit to his messiah and savior, Al Gore for averting catastrophe by his flying around the globe in his private jet to enlighten the masses.
I offer Mr. Lindorf this wager: If in ten years the coasts are under water, I will let my hair and beard grow, and I will start tokin’ some righteous spleef, and I will start voting Democrat. However, if he is wrong, he gets a haircut and a shave, takes a bath, goes to church, gets a REAL job, and becomes a dyed in the wool Conservative.

Global Warming is the Rapture of the Liberals, the end-time when the wicked, i.e. Republicans and Sinners, will be cast into darkness (no eco-friendly lightbulbs for them) and eternal hellfire (they will all be relocated to L.A.) forever.
What we are seeing here is essentially a +2,000 year regression in attitudes and thinking. Liberals, who with no irony whatever continue to call themselves Progressives, now have the look of someone who has been out in the wilderness far too long, seen too many visions, and is never coming back to this planet we call Earth.

You have to wonder if liberals like this are really able to be this deluded, or are they simply ignorant of facts.
The fact is, the planet has spent more time, on the scale of orders of magnitude, with the oceans far deeper than they are now. Throughout the 65 million year reign of the dinosaurs, the midwest was essentially a big swamp.
During the last interglacial period, the oceans were 9 to 15 FEET deeper than they are now! Yet even that was a mere eyeblink in geologic time.
Our present climate is a mere transition betweeen the aforementioned tropical Earth, and more recent glacial periods, where my house would be buried under a MILE THICH ice sheet, and the coasts were the continental shelves!
It is a rare combination of ignorance, hubris and self delusion that would make any person believe that
1) this is the way the climate was meant to be;
2) Man has any truly significant effect on the climate (about 3.4% at last reckoning)
3) That anything we do now will have any significant effect on the current postglacial warming trend.
4) And all the talk about extinction? A review of the geologic record will show multiple major extinction events that had absolutely nothing to do with man or SUVs.
How can anyone believe Al Gore, whose entire scientific background can be summed up in a Washington Post article, dated Sunday, March 19, 2000, pA01:

Of course he has it wrong anyway. If you look at county maps of election results, you will see correlation between water and blue (liberal) voting. The liberals all live near water, so global warming will wipe out the liberals. So, the model that shows the earth being covered in 20 feet of water and taking out large land masses are accurate but they can’t get the weather right 2 weeks from now?

Yes, I live at a higher elevation in the Sierras. We normally get snow. LOTS of snow, and with the exception of last year (I believe it was a La Nina year, or El Nino, can’t remember which one), we’ve consistently gotten tons of snow. What’s different last year and this year, is that it’s been really, really cold. This morning was -6.

If, I say again ‘if’, the Earth was to warm to the point of water rising over the land in the lower portion of the U. S. It would be a gradual rise. Does this idiot honestly believe that people would simply stay put until the water rises over thier heads and they stop breathing?

Philly is at risk? When I lived there, as a child, my house house was 400+ feet above sea level. So, the 20′ rise in sea level will equal a 400′ rise in sea level?

A few weeks ago, we still had an Erie, PA. Has anybody seen any other cities on the Great Lakes lately? Why haven’t the Great Lakes already formed the Great Inland Sea? There are poor portions of PA, NY and OH that would benefit greatly if they became seaside resorts.
A few weeks ago, a guy who was personally trained by Al Gore, wrote in the newspaper that every gallon of gas we burn in our SUVs puts over 20 lbs. of CO2 into the atmosphere. Given that gasoline weighs less than water, it is less than 8 lbs per gallon. If gasoline were pure carbon (in which case it would be coal or diamonds but not gasoline) and there were no oxygen in gas (which there is), the arithmetic doesn’t work even with a perfectly efficient conversion.
How can anybody believe this cr*p?
I would bet that islamofacists will detonate nukes in LA, NYC, Chicago, and DC before his global warming fantasy ever comes true.

I just got my energy bill and it says last month was 11 degrees colder here in the Peoples Republic of Minnesota than last year. While not proving global cooling, it certainly fails to support any warming theories.
Fortunately I live on the Mississippi River bluff and so I’m about 900 feet above current sea level. Rising sea levels drown the Left and East coasts. And the downside is….??

This gentleman learned geography in a public school evidently. You see, the Northwest is “higher” when you look at a map, therefore the water will take longer to overflow there than in “lower” states. Trust me on this - someone at NASA has done the math…
Think about it, if fruitcup is correct: NYC lost, Boston lost, Baltimore Lost, Miami lost, Mobile lost, NOLA lost, LA lost, Oakland lost, Portland lost, Seattle Lost, etc. And using his assumption that people are to stupid to move I think we would lose more liberals than conservatives.

Dear Editors,
This article by Dave Lindorff is the most contemptuous opinion piece I have ever read in my life - something I thought could only be found in the pages of a Michael Crichton novel. There is no compassion in Mr. Lindorff’s words for those millions of lives that will be imperiled by his doomsday scenario. There is no attempt to grieve for the children who by no fault of their own are born into the areas of America he describes. Instead, there is gloating. Gloating over the deaths of the conservative elderly. Gloating over the deaths of the conservatives in the Midwest farming communities. Gloating over the demise of American lands and citizens for the good of the Left.
According to Mr. Lindorff, when the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free migrate to the Utopian lands of the Left, they are not to be greeted with open arms and golden lamps but with reprimands and the bitter condemnation of the Left “on the higher ground both actually and figuratively.” To those who complain, they will recieve a heartfelt “Shut up. We told you this would happen.” How deplorable.
To remain silent in the face of such political malice is to abdicate my rights in a cloud of apathy. I cannot be so busy in my life that I allow such hateful sentiments to remain unchallenged. Silence in this case is approval. Most Americans, such as myself, are a little to the right or left of the middle. We must raise our voices as loudly as Mr. Lindorff’s so that there is balance.
There is much evidence to the contrary in regards to anthropogenic Global Warming theories, such as CO2 levels follow rises in temperature as opposed to inducing them, that cloud cover in tandem with solar cycles cause warming conditions, and that “Global Warming” per se is not global at all but regional and often linked to urban areas that are heavily developed (where the temperature stations reside). There is ample evidence to show that the changes we see about us have been going on for centuries on this glorious planet, such as organic matter and ancient mining communities revealed in the receding snows. Alarmism has replaced activism in the fight against pollution and the ravaging of our lands. Science has taken a back seat to politics.
What cannot be disputed is that Mr. Lindorff’s opinion piece displays* an unkindly attitude towards his fellow man, and a self-righteousness that is every bit as ugly as that found in the most extremely religious Far Right. Mr. Lindorff may have the right to voice his opinion, but he should be ashamed for having done so.

Global warming will be revealed as a hoax, just like malthusian doomsday predictions of Paul Ehrlich were refuted by Julian Simon in their celebrated wager.
The predictive power of the global warming lunatics’ computer generated climate models must be put to the test in the same way.
The greenies should make some medium-to-long-term predictions, predictions that can be either verified or falsified, and then stand by them and be willing to have their theory judged on the merits of its ability to accurately determine future climate conditions, or else STFU.
Lindorkk should STFU, regardless. His lack of seriousness is an affront to journalism.
