Impeachment Watch: Extreme BDS in Vermont
Frustrated by the failure of the Dem leadership to carry through with impeachment, some Bush-haters in Brattleboro, Vermont want to subject President Bush and VP Cheney to arrest if they set foot in their town. Consider it sort of a do-it-yourself impeachment alternative:
President Bush may soon have a new reason to avoid left-leaning Vermont: In one town, activists want him subject to arrest for war crimes.
A group in Brattleboro is petitioning to put an item on a town meeting agenda in March that would make Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney subject to arrest and indictment if they visit the southeastern Vermont community.
“This petition is as radical as the Declaration of Independence, and it draws on that tradition in claiming a universal jurisdiction when governments fail to do what they’re supposed to do,” said Kurt Daims, 54, a retired machinist leading the drive.
As president, Bush has visited every state except Vermont.
The town meeting, an annual exercise in which residents gather to vote on everything from fire department budgets to municipal policy, requires about 1,000 signatures to place a binding item on the agenda.
The measure asks: “Shall the Selectboard instruct the Town Attorney to draft indictments against President Bush and Vice President Cheney for crimes against our Constitution, and publish said indictment for consideration by other municipalities?”
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment Friday. The press office did not immediately respond to an e-mail.
The state Senate in Vermont earlier this year approved an impeachment resolution. Guess there’s nothing else to worry about in the Green Mountain State.

This is a terrific chance to contribute to the impeachment movement. You could even make history. John Nirenberg has marched 300 miles from Boston. He is approaching Philadelphia and will be presenting petitions and letters for impeachment from all over New England to Nancy Pelosi in Washington D.C. John needs a new support driver for the first week or two of January.
The impeachment mob has quite the little racket going on. Earlier this week, Daims was hyped by a Huffington Post blogger Dan DeWalt, who likened the Brattleboro movement to the founding fathers forging the Declaration of Independence. DeWalt’s bio on HuffPo says he “authored the Newfane impeachment resolution passed in 7 Vermont towns in 2006.” (More here.)
HuffPo failed to disclose that Daims attempted to get the Brattleboro council to pass a measure that would:
…”for the sake of our nation and world, issue bonds and notes of $190,000 to hire two advocates who would attempt to impeach the president, and…
… that $30,000 to be awarded to Dan DeWalt of Newfane for his services….”
These people aren’t going away. As I’ve continued to report in my Impeachment Watch series, there’s a groundswell that will hit Washington after the New Year. It’s going to cause the Democrat leadership considerable heartache and headache. Many pundits are focusing on the supposed conservative crack-up. But keep your eye on the fissures spreading between the Dems and the extreme BDS left over this impeachment business.

What Nancy Pelosi has to look forward to via the Village Voice:
John Nirenberg would walk 500 miles. And it sounds like he would walk 500 more. But unlike the persistent pop tune by The Proclaimers, he refuses to be the man who falls down at Nancy Pelosi’s door.
Nirenberg, a hearty New York City native and current resident of Brattelboro, Vermont, intends to be standing when he reaches Washington, D.C. around January 10, at the conclusion of a scheduled 40-day walk that began in Boston on December 1. This fall, the 60-year-old professor of organizational behavior and Air Force veteran decided to traverse Route 1 on foot to implore House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to begin impeachment proceedings against President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
“It was about a whole collection of issues around the Constitution and the behavior of this administration,” explains Nirenberg, who finds that his sense of outrage and jogging background help him complete 15 miles per day. “Especially the torture issue, the spying, and an illegal war. All of this, at some point, was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I decided that I needed to do something different.”
In order to channel his frustration, Nirenberg founded the non-profit organization, March in My Name, where his trek can be followed on the Web site, www.marchinmyname.org
He hopes also that by collecting photos, testimonials and petition signatures, he can show Speaker Pelosi that popular support exists for her, at the very least, to allow the House Judiciary Committee to open a hearing into the behavior of the Bush administration.

Now that’s gonna be in my head all day.
VT the only place that makes my state (MA) look half sane by comparison. That one guy who had just seen the 9-11 attack for the first time a little while ago I noticed was the guy who they were trying to get $30,000.00 for services for too. I have to deal with loons like this every time I go to downtown Boston. They block the street with petitions and signs. But it’s not quite VT yet. At least the part I live in is okay…for now.

Not at all surprised over this impeachment as my own congressjackass Robert Wexler keeps agitating for impeachment too. I think the large NY snowbird population contributes to it. And of course out taxes pay for the franking privileges of this purely political camel dung.
Must be a lot of inferior feeling people in Brattleboro for them to want to do something that’s “as radical as the Declaration of Independence” and, as usual, it’s all about them. I mean, it would take at least the year President Bush has left in office to bring impeachment charges against him so these people know their stated goal cannot possibly be achieved. All they want is notoriety. Yea Me.

Vermont used to be a conservative state, if you can believe that. I know, my parents lived in Montpelier. Dad worked for the state government. I had thoughts, at one time, to move back there. Over the years, the liberals overran the state. Now, I wouldn’t live there at all; not a chance. Such a beautiful state too, now gone wacko. 1st order of business of the legislature has always been a motion to secede from the U.S., which was a condition when they became a state from a republic. Maybe they won’t smile anymore and pass it. I’m supposed to be buried in the family plot there which is, by the way, right next to the Leahy family plot. It has always been a running joke about me and the Leahys arguing politics for eternity. It isn’t funny anymore. I’ve got an idea for another place. Sorry, Grandma, Dad and Mom.
Visiting his website sure is telling. The Links page is a who’s who of crackpot BDS sufferers. Also, under Reasons for Impeachment in the bar on the right, he lists Bill Moyers’ July Journal and Congressman Wexlar’s Call for Cheney Impeachment hearings to justify his quest.
OH well, what do you expect from a BDS sufferer! His petition says it all!!
An entire town, with it’s citizenry all feeling in this way is one of the single, most frightening things I can imagine. What it tells me, is that there are an awful lot of maleable people who are unable to form cohearant thoughts on their own. These people do not get the paper, have the Inernet etc., and rely on the word of snake-oil hucksters to tell them what to think and feel about things. What people get the paper have only one paper to choose from and thus, only have one opinion and use it as gospel.
To put out an arrest warrant on a sitting President and Vice-President on trumped-up charges and lies is about as treasonous as you get folks. To go around, declaring pride about how you and your town are going to be the ones to ut them behind bars etc., should have the SS crawling all over the place and havinng the conspirators tossed unceremoniously into the clink.
This is just plain unheard of and something truly needs to be done to stop these morons. This is far beyond protest and “Freedom of Speech”. This consists of activities along the lines of Jefferson Davis and the Confederate States of America when they were dealing with Lincoln.
If people cannot see this, then they truly have lost or never had, any sense of history, not even the easily known and remembered stuff.
Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the guy who spoofed Bush showed up for the vote? They could announce that someone wished to argue against the resolution, then this guy walks out. The USGS might just register a small earthquake in SE Vermont from all the jaws hitting the floor.
Unfortunately, I think BDS sufferers don’t have much of a sense of humor, so they might not like getting p3wnd.
BDS is a symptom of people desiring change who can’t intellectualize how it can happen. Most BDS sufferers are completely institutionalized entitlement addicts. They must be taken care of according to very strict government guidelines: coddling, told that they’re deserving of more government, rich are evil and so on. The antics on display in Vermont and elsewhere is merely the result of 8 years of liberalism-lite regarding spending combined with GOP heavy and the wanton spending on matters’ military. This combination has been laboratory-proven to induce the aforementioned symptomatology. Treatment: Ignore them.
Just think what would be happening if the Clintons and Gores and Kerrys of this world were in the oval office and something like this happened … The entire town would disappear off the map … to say the least …

Isn’t this the state with restorative justice? Isn’t this is the state that lets pedophiles roam around? I remember Factor segements, on laughable sentences, handed down for “predators” by judges in this state because they believe in rehabilatation for the criminal. Vermont isn’t a bell whether state, in my estimation. So goes Vermont so goes the Nation…I doubt it seriously.

This isn’t a surprise. Brattleboro is the same town that, for a while this year, allowed public nudity, and all because someone referenced the Bible in a town hearing for a nudity ban. This town was the home of an extremely large commune in the 1970s. And in the mid 1980s, the feds conducted a raid there that netted them one or more members of the Bader-Meinhof Gang.
Unfortunately, while I want to feel sympathy for Bush and be supportive, I just can’t. Certainly one of the most annoying aspects of this impeachment spectacle is that these people are the ones Bush has been trying to win over (i.e. bribe) for years — while he blew off his base. Too bad his No Liberal Left Behind efforts came to naught, as any fool could have told him. Worse, he will continue to try and win these people over when he leaves office and starts doing a refurbished version of the traveling global peace circus with Carter. One more reason to go on living, I guess.
Fortunately for Democrats, Bush will never leave office. Like Hoover, they will make sure he will always be there as the source of any conceivable problem in the future, and thus excuse their own polished ineptitude. Bush never ceases to amaze me. He appears to be the repository of every wretched presidential trait of the 20th century: Carter, Johnson, Hoover, Wilson, he has all their worst aspects. [Yes, I left several out, like his dear friend Bill Clinton, but I'm trying to keep this short.] The man’s smirking incompetence will haunt us forever, or at least until we become the Islamic Republic of Amexica.

We also considered moving to VT; visited that town as well as several others. A nice farmer gave us a tour of his “sugar shack”–at no charge! All it takes is 50% +1 liberals to ruin a town or state. Remember Russia, 1917– the 1/2 of 1% who rioted, murdered and took over the country established communism in fact killing a hundred or so million people after they disarmed the normal citizens.

Chief RZ I think you are right as to “All it takes is 50% +1 liberals to ruin a town or state.” In some ways Vermont is the only free state in the Northeast and I have respected many of their social experiments while maintaining basic liberties and constitutional rights. I’m sort of actually torn on this. On the one hand I kinda respect their radicalism. On the other hand, I hate that their radicalism is so misguided.
I would be cheering if the resolution was say regarding arresting any member of Congress who has ignored the Constitution and voted for laws restricted Constitutional freedoms, or violating our national sovereignty. That would be an apolitical move about taking this country back from the politicians and stepping away from the chasm of socialism/fascism we currently face. The BDS resolution makes it nothing more than a liberal hack action having nothing to do with liberty.
What a waste! Assuming that the impeachment groupies are able to persuade/blackmail the Dem leadership into going along, the process wouldn’t play out until after Bush and Cheney have left office. So what would be accomplished? In 1948, Truman told his loony left to go take a hike and he won anyway. The eventual nominee can profit by this example.

I now live in Vermont, ns in defense of my adopted state let me say this: Yes, the loons are loud, but the numbers outside of Bennington (which even has a “head shop” if you can imagine such a dinosaurian concept)and Burlington are not what you’d expect. I personally know not a single person who supports them and all have varying degrees of contempt.
By the way, for the record what they want to do is impossible because George W Bush and Dick Cheney are protected against such actions by their constitutional rights as citizens. Period. The loons can make all the noise they want but Bush and Cheney are citizens, too. All the loons are doing is broadcasting insanity and reminding the country just how out-of-control the left can be if they remain unchecked. And, quite frankly, that’s a good thing, especially as we approach an election year.

I would also oppose a vote to arrest numerous actual criminals from congress like the other William Jefferson “cold cash” D-LA because they are all protected as they should while they are in office. On a lighter note, I wonder how the President’s Secret Service detail would react if he went to Brattleboro and they attempted to “arrest” him.

Vermont is a relatively meaningless small state crying for attention the way all the victims of secular socialism cry for attention. They are extremely insular and have become so detached from the realities of the world that they have lost the ability to think in any meaningful way.
Cat, yes there are conservatives in Vermont still. They are usually the quiet ones, because they have jobs, and families to support. They don’t have time to complain about their so-called “entitlements” and attend “impeachment hearings”, because they are too busy following the American dream and being successful at it. It takes hard work too and non-dysfunctional families. Well, hopefully, I can still order maple syrup from there. Canadian syrup is okay only if Vermont isn’t available.

As a Republican, I hoped for Bill Clinton to be successful because the nation succeeds if the President succeeds. And, from a Republican perspective, he was successful because he gave us the Gingrich revolution which constrained his natural socialistic tendencies and bought us some fiscal accountability – until a bunch of arrogant and idiotic Republican Congressmen threw it all away.
I gave up on Clinton when his minor actions were really open and obvious violations of the law for which any President should be impeached. We are a nation of laws and we had best be very careful when we allow our leaders to violate the law. (I know, I know, you will say Bush violated the law but the law requires proof not your feelings or opinion.)
One final point, the build-up to 9/11 occurred on Clinton’s watch. His stated disdain for the investigative, intelligence and defense organizations of this nation are well known. He built policy and personnel firewalls between those organizations and himself to protect his interests. Bush was in office but 8 months before 9/11 and the election hangover affected his ability to put in place key members of his administration. By the way, almost all Presidential administrations take at least a year to get established and changes in policy take even more time. I worked in the field and it was not unusual for a policy change, which has to be written into various instructions, to take almost the entire term of a President before action actually occurred.
They won’t arrest pedophiles but they’ll arrest the president and vice president for specious reasons. These guys make Oregon look like a bastion of sanity.

No one is saying you can’t “hate” a President. However, why you would hate a Presidnet is a question unto itself. If you are comparing the dislike that the Republicans had for Clinton with the absolute insanity shown towards Bush…where he had eggs and rocks thrown at his car uring his inauguration and it was protested, where there has been lies told about him from day one….BEFORE he was even sworn in, where there have been demonstrations in the streets, absolute hysteria on TV, books, movies, news etc., then I’m sorry, but there is no comparrison.
As for the Impeachment of Clinton, he was justifiably Impeached for what he did. He was also disbarred and had other punishments levied against him. Why? Because he broke the law. And NOT for a sexual indiscretion like you Liberals would like the world to think. It was for intimidation, a Clinton trademark, and for lying, another trademark, and variousnother crimes. You know…the same things you were so proud to get Scooter Libby for.
These were not because of hatred towards Cinton, but because he was and still is dirty. He is a rapist, he is a sexist, he is just a low life scoundrel. When discussing events in th State of Vermont, you have to realize that Vermont is unlike any other state in the United States. Vermont is a socialist state. Bernie Sanders, I believe its Senator now, is an open socialist. And the people in Vermont just love the guy. They will elect him to anything. Vermont’s Supreme Court is a radical, left wing court. Some years ago, the Vermont Supreme Court essentially declared class war against wealthier Vermont towns. The Vermont Supreme Court ruled that the state government could, indeed must, strip property tax revenues from wealthier towns and hand them over to so called poorer towns. So what happens in Vermont is this: Taxpayers in wealthier towns have no control over what amounts of property taxes that they will pay or how the money is spent. The state government simply makes those decisions and takes the money that wealthier taxpayers pay in property taxes and then the state government gives it to poorer towns that are controlled by local Democratic Party hacks and then the local Democrats decide how to spend the money. Most people who travel through Vermont for a ski trip or scenic trip do not see or understand anything about what is going on. Things are so bad in the socialist state of Vermont that when the kids from a wealthier town play on the high school basketball team and go on an away trip, the kids and parents from the poorer towns heap verbal and sometimes physical abuse on these kids from the wealthier towns. And it is all encouraged, indeed sanctioned, by the radical Vermont Supreme Court. Many of the members were appointed by radical Democrat Howard Dean.

A woman at the helm of this country will NOT show Islam that we are friends. In fact, it will have the exact opposite effect. Apparently, they were too busy telling everyone to do it and failed to do it themselves, or else they would not be making such foolish statements.
The last thing we would want to have at the helm is a woman. This is something that the Muslims treat as dirt in their society. This is something that all a Liberal need do is look toward Syria or Saudia Arabia and see how the women are treated there, where they are not permitted outside the home without a male member of the family as an escort, where they cannot show any flesh except their eyes, where they are forbidden to learn to read or write, where they are forbidden to drive or sit in the front seat of a car…this is how they view women in Islam. Is this really how women in this country think that Islam is going to respect a ffemale President and think that “Hey, we can be buddies now, look, we have a woman, and our Liberal friends told us that Islam treats women with respect”.
Well, Islam supposedly tells us that to kill a woman sends them straight to Hell as well. How many women have been ripped to shreds in the last 6 years, in the last 10,200+ Islamic Terrorist attacks? Hmmm? Indiscriminate murders by Islamic men AND women?

Can these same people who claim that no more wars would be happening if we had a woman President really say the same thing with the fact that this woman was just slaughtered in broad daylight? Was there not wars going on and unrest in her own country, especially in Kashmir between Pakistan and India while she was Prime Minister?

Hey Scooter…The Beret was given to everyone in the Military because Bill Clinton decided that he didn’t want anyone to have hurt widdwle feewings.
Prior to his little childish Liberal move, that cuold have only been done by someone who once demonstrated in another country AGAINST our country and military during a time of war and has gone on record as being anti-military only to eventually become their Commander-in-Chief, the Beret was a mark of distinction for certain Special Forces. It was a Badge Of Honor, and those that wore one were seen to be the “badasses” they were meant to be.
Well, one day, a hick with a penchant for women with Cankles and big noses who never took no for an answer from any woman, decided that there might be some soldier who may just have his feelings hurt because he didn’t have one of those awesome Green Berets or Black Berets or Red Berets. It might actually hurt his idiom and psyche, sinding him back to his barracks where he would cry himself to sleep into his pillow, writing his little letters home to momma, whining about how these big, burly army men were getting all the women and he was getting nothing, all because they had all this extra training and were “Special Ops” and were risking their lives on secret mission while he was nothing but a computer operator or a cook or something else like that.
Well, since Billy-Joe-Bob of the Magic Condom could feel his pain, he decided to change decades of Military tradition, go against every General and Staff officer and Head of the Military’s advice and make it so EVERYONE in the Military could have a beret so that EVERYONE could feel JUST AS SPECIAL as those badasses in the Rangers, the Green Berets, the Night Stalkers and the other SpecOps
So you see, it takes someone who hasn’t a clue about the military and who actually hates the military to really screw it up for everyone. The military hates the berets, no one but Billy and Hill-Dawg wanted the change, and they took something of distinction and turned it into mediocrity…a joke…just like everything that Liberals touch.
Let me tell you a thing or two about this state before this whole place is erased off the map with the broad brush of generalization. The people who drive us all nuts are the people mostly in the hubs. The loonies are dispropotionately more prevelent here, yes, but no more so than NYC (which alone has a larger population than the whole state of Vermont.) What has happened here is that the loons have taken over the reins of power in more significant areas only. But some of us are quietly burning the midnight oil to reverse that. But more on that some other time.

This broad “they” business is a bit irksome. Many of the people up here have moved from NYC, NJ, Connecticut because they have been successful enough to move up another rung on the American dream ladder – and they didn’t get there by being big-tax socialists, we’re talking the wall street crowd – and a good place it is to do it, too, because there is barely a spot in the southern half of the state that isn’t like driving through a picture postcard just about any time of the year. I was informed recently the the small but hugely upscale town of Dorset has more high-end coprorate CEOs if you include retirees than any other town in the country, and if you know the place you’d realize it’s likely. Those people are not part of this nutcase BDS. Neither am I nor anyone I know. Here’s the ones who are: small-end, semi-starving 1960’s, baggy -clad artists and semi-failed academicians in motheaten cardigans and those people indeed fit the description above: floundering inconsequential people dying for attention. But don’t paint the state with a broad brush; it doesn’t deserve it. If it did, I wouldn’t be within ten light-years of this place.

The problem such as it is may be that no one not only has time for the hearings and entitlements, but they also don’t have time for the people who do have time for the hearings and entitlements – don;t have the time nor inclination to confront them. It’s understandable: it’s the same as being a sane person not wanting to mix it up with ranters on message boards – no time and no payoff. The difficulty arises in that the ranters often take over the message boards and drive everyone else away. That may be true of vermont, too. But I hope a small crop of very loudly spoiled apples doesn’t ruin the whole basket. You can help that and the majority of good people up here by not painting this state with so broad a brush. It truly isn’t fair to the majority.
No, but you’re on to something. There may be a way to both target the offending areas AND communicate the fact widly, so they hear it up here. Boycotting the whole state just hurts the innocent – this isn;t France where the average perisian spits on America.
One outragious way to do it is to take the elitism out of this place. And here’s how: organize pro-republican conventions, vacation packages and what have you and advertise the fact. The thing with the libs is they want a little dream world. The moment you interrupt that, they move away. I can’t do that because it needs to be organized from without to bring money in, but others can. Sure, if Rush organized a big deal in Bennington or one of the larger ski resorts (gorgeous places, some of them) there would be picketers, but just come wearing lots of leather and fur and wave and smile broadly like superstars, and they’ll scurry back to their little holes and lick their wounds for a year. Trust me, I know the type.
No, don’t boycott, start advertising in every conservative media form you know, internet, whatever. Go to Vermont and be a proud conservative. trust me, the weasles in question don’t have th belly for the fight. They only try to do the things like this impeachment lunacy because they think this is an island. The fastest way to shut them up is to make it clear that their actions will attract happy conservatives, not drive the away.
And trust me, you’ll have a great time -more beautiful scenery you’ve never seen, spring, summer, winter or fall.

He became the Army Chief of Staff after a long tenure with the UN forces in Bosnia … you remember? … the war where Billy Boy said the troops would be home by Christmas but are still there today … several years longer than we have been in Iraq and Afghanistan … anyway … he had been lobbying for years to wear berets … an obvious UN and European influence … He got a relcutant approval to go ahead from Rumsfeld on March 16, 2001.
