Oh, yeah: Wyoming
I don’t want to slight Wyoming readers, so keep in mind that there’s a caucus there on Saturday:
Don’t forget Wyoming. It’s been overlooked in the hoopla surrounding Thursday’s Iowa caucuses and next week’s New Hampshire primary, but Wyoming Republicans will caucus Saturday and choose delegates to the national convention in September.
Candidates have paid little attention to the state, though.
Mitt Romney, Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul have passed through since September. Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain have not.
“Yes, there have been some appearances by the candidates in this state that otherwise wouldn’t have occurred this early in the process,” said Jim King, who teaches political science at the University of Wyoming. “But candidates are where the media are — in Iowa and New Hampshire.”
So far, no candidate has announced plans to head west for the state GOP’s county conventions Saturday. An exception could be Hunter, who has been to several of the state’s major cities and held out the possibility of a last-minute visit. His wife spent part of her childhood in Wheatland, in southeast Wyoming.

The media decides who and what is important. Wyoming just doesn’t fit their agenda. And, it’s true, the candidates go where the cameras are.
Since Wyoming first gave women the right to vote, seems a shame to
ignore them in the primary process. But graysonret is correct. No
cameras, no candidates.
No offense to anyone from Wyoming, but I didn’t know that the state had any major cities.
Could they have been ignored for having too few votes? Does anyone know the numbers?

Wyoming like Idaho has a very small conservative population so they are widely ignored by the MSM and their liberal friends.
I believe that Wyoming has 3 electoral votes. Also, they are mostly Republican anyway. Actually, not a bad state to live in, so I hear.
Wyoming is a Red state with 3 electoral votes and the MSM can’t do the bidding of the DNC, so why bother?
Let’s not forget Dick Cheney’s from Wyoming.

And please, western Wyoming is one of the most beautiful places in the US and well worth living in/visiting.

It’s only the GOP that is picking delegates this Saturday (the Dems will be picking in March I think). We have so few democrats in this area that for state and local offices the primary in August is usually the general election since the winner is generally unopposed in the general election in November.
Wyoming has 28 delegates to the national convention but since the caucuses are being held before the NH primary, the National party says they are going to disallow 14 from voting. (It may be 26 and 13 since I’ve heard those numbers bandied about too.)
Each county will pick ether a national delegate or an alternate (they alternate election years) along with delegates for the state convention in May. So half of the 28 will be chosen this Saturday and the other half will be elected at state convention in May.
Since the delegates elected in May are “at large” and the delegates elected this weekend will represent their county, the State party says that if the National party disallows some of the delegates, the delegates elected at the convention in May will be the first to be dropped.
This weekends caucuses/conventions will elect county delegates to the State convention also.
Here in Gillette (in the NE Corner) we had Duncan Hunter and one of Romney’s sons. That’s more attention than we’ve had from presidential candidates in decades.

Hardest part of living in Wyoming is the cold, minus zero degree temps not unusual at all and the wind. Story has it the snow falls over Wyoming but lands in S. Dakota and Nebraska…slightly windy…always! Great source for wind power.

That’s about right. We actually have a large wind farm down around Laramie with more being planned. I’m actully looking into putting one up at my house.
When the weatherman talks about wind blowing steady at 20 – 25 mph and gusting to 35 he refers to it as “Breezy”.
Whoops, sorry about that. my last comments about Wyoming was not a bash to the state just an opinion from a guy who lived in Utah and went to Wyoming…a lot.

Iowa has 7, Wyoming 3, N.H. 4 and S.C. 8 electoral votes. Go figure.

I spent most of my life in Utah (Kearns/Taylorsville area) and moved to Wyoming in ‘98. Got tired of paying non-resident hunting fees and too dangerous to hunt in Utah.

head with candidates. They actually showed HRC and Bill (gasp!) touching!
TXRose, you’re going to have to look elsewhare for reporting on honor killings. Fox isn’t much better than the rest of the MSM when it comes to covering islam. Pitiful at best.
And Shrillery and Bubba touching is just for ratings. Kind of like photos of train wrecks.
Ah, the wind. I grew up in Cody, and the wind would polish the snow drifts into frozen waves that were harder than concrete. Only the Wyoming wind could take the fun out of snow.
Alas, it’s red state status is no longer pristine, since Teton County (Jackson) voted Kerry in 2004. Dang limo libs.
You’re right about that. I think the only reason we keep Teton county is for the tax base. It’s politics are so far out of step from the rest of the state (not to mention per capita income).
Cody is real nice though. I have an uncle that grew up there. He’s lived in Spokane since getting out of the Air Force sometime in the mid 60’s, but I think he still has family there.
Unfortunatley his last name is Johnson, so even in a small town. . . .
Hmmmm. . . they must have moved it up just this year then. I did not realize that they have their caucus this weekend. Seems like a good place for someone like Hunter to get a few delegates for a seat in the convention anyway.

I’m living in Michigan now..
every year or twice a year, there is a job fair from the State of Wyoming looking for people to fill jobs there..
I lived in Laramie for several years each summer while my dad was working for his doctorate there. They had a saying about Wyoming, which wasn’t far from the truth: 11 months winter and 1 month late fall.
That said, the quality of life (at that time) was so good, that my family agrees unanimously, that in spite of the cold, it was the best time we ever had.
About froze my mitts off many a time in the Medicine Bows snowmobiling and innertubing.

I actually live in WY. Interesting how the press even gets in wrong, referring to our county conventions as caucuses. Our caucuses actually took place in December. Wyoming is a convention state, and this is the first time in history that we’ve ever had a voice in presidential primary politics.
The precinct committee men and women are the only ones with a vote in most of the counties. You’d be surprised at how some of the candidates have catered to these people for their votes.
Personally, it’s been stressful and I’ll be glad when tomorrow is over.
I guess it’s because WY is a sure red state again. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I hope that WY citizens understand that in the grand scheme of things, they need to focus more on the swing states.
As for the dems, well, the Plains and Deep South are out for them. They won’t even try.
