Saturday night jive: The New Hampshire debates; Round One – GOP candidates
Update 9:16pm Eastern. Here’s the vid of McCain’s knock on Romney: “You’re the candidate of change.” And more vid highlights/lowlights here. Wire dispatch here.
Mark Hemingway at The Corner: “You hate the rich? No way! I HATE THE RICH! ”
Update 8:45pm Eastern. GOP debate over. Romney bore the brunt of attacks. We’ll see if there’s a backlash among New Hampshire voters to the negativity soon enough. McCain was positively awful on immigration. He has not, not, not learned his lesson. Huckabee was nervous. In past debates, he performed the best–injecting humor, memorable one-liners, etc. Tonight, he was rehearsed and careful and brittle. Meanwhile, here are a few screen caps of the photo op moment ABC’s been touting….the GOP and Dem candidates together on stage. Kumbaya…
Scroll down for GOP debate liveblogging 7-8:30pm Eastern. I’ll start a new thread for the Dem debate.
Highlights/lowlights:
7:20pm Eastern. Ron Paul blames America: “They don’t attack us because we’re free and prosperous. It’s because we invade their countries.”
7:51pm Eastern. Health-care crisis is because of “war-mongering;” Romney on health care: “I like mandates;”
8:16pm Eastern. Giuliani: “None of us has a perfect record on immigration;” Thompson takes on Giuliani’s sanctuary policies
8:28pm Eastern. McCain disses Romney: “You are the candidate of change.” McCain cackles.
8:40pm Eastern. On oil dependence Huckabee. Every time we swipe our credit card at the gas station, we might as well send that money to Pakistani madrassas.
Romney gets the last word — a polite consensus, stump-y ending.
Update 8:37pm Eastern. Thompson succinctly shoots down oil company demagoguery from WMUR anchor. What about their profits? Fred: I take note of their profits. I take note of their losses. It’s supply and demand.
***Update 8:28pm Eastern. Candidates address Obama/change platform. Romney talks about living change. Pulling a segue on the Obama question, McCain snidely attacks Romney: “You are the candidate of change.” McCain cackles.
Very unbecoming. (Allah disagrees with me. He says he LOL’ed.)
Giuliani answers the Obama question. He doesn’t have the experience.
Update 8:22pm Eastern. Open-borders Huckabee tries to sound tough on borders. Tries and fails.
Update 8:07pm Eastern. First question after the break goes to McCain on immigration and his changed tune. McCain proceeds to sing his changed tune: border security, employer verification, national security. But “these are God’s children.” Reiterates support for guest worker program. Spat over definition of “amnesty.”
Romney says no amnesty, pathway for 12 million illegals for permanent residency or citizenship.
Romney and McCain get into it. Romney – I did not endorse your plan. Endorsed none of them.
McCain: You can spend your whole fortune on these ads and it won’t make it true.
Romney: Your view is that everyone who doesn’t have a criminal record who came here illegally can stay here forever. Are they sent home?
McCain: Some are, some are not. Appeals to emotion by saying he won’t deport grandmother of illegal alien solder in Iraq.
Thompson gangs up on…Romney.
Romney: Are the 12 million illegals allowed to stay here or not?
McCain: The answer is we were still negotiating.
Gibson waves the total deportation red herring: Is it practical to deport them all.
Romney: Look up your Z visa. Every illegal would stay here indefinitely.
Giuliani: Reagan did amnesty. He would be subject to Mitt’s negative ads. None of us has a perfect record on immigration.
Me: That’s for damned sure.
Thompson: If you are rewarded for illegal behavior, it’s amnesty.
Thompson: You can have enforcement by attrition. Stop sanctuary cities, like sanctuary that Giuliani had.
Giuliani: Denies that NYC was a sanctuary.
Update 8:00pm Eastern. Commercial break. So far, I’d say Fred Thompson is doing well for himself. He’s shown humor and is engaged and seems relaxed. Huckabee and Romney scuffled briefly; Huckabee slipped and let himself appear thin-skinned and defensive. Ron Paul is clearly relishing the opportunity to wield his Blame America sword.
Huckabee accused Romney of not supporting the surge before he did. Romney campaign sends this in rapid response…
Tonight, Huckabee Accused Gov. Romney Of Not Supporting The Troop:
Huckabee Said He Supported The Surge Before Romney. “I supported the president in the war before you did. I supported the surge when you didn’t.” (ABC/WMUR, [Unverified Transcript], Republican Presidential Candidate Debate, Manchester, NH, 1/5/08)
One Year Ago, Gov. Huckabee Did Not Offer His Support For The Surge:
Gov. Huckabee, January 2007: “Well, I’m Not Sure That I Support The Troop Surge.” MSNBC’s NORAH O’DONNELL: “We have a Rudy Giuliani, who supports the president’s plan on Iraq. We have Governor Mitt Romney, who also supports a troop surge. How are you different from any of those candidates.” HUCKABEE: “Well, I’m not sure that I support the troop surge, if that surge has to come from our Guard and Reserve troops, which have really been overly stretched.” (MSNBC’s “Live,” 1/24/07)

Scroll down for first hour liveblogging.
Update 7:10pm Eastern. Charles Gibson. GOP candidates introduced. “Think of this as a semi-circle dining room table.” First question on foreign policy. “Will you run on the Bush foreign policy record or away from it?”
Huckabee points to “arrogance” of “former Secretary of Defense.”
Thompson razzes Huckabee for his change of message–now claiming we were arrogant for not going into with Iraq with not enough troops.
Giuliani: I think the president got the big decision of his presidency right. Going on offense in Afghanistan, Iraq, Patriot Act, electronic surveillance. Mistakes were made after capture of Saddam Hussein…We should increase the size of our military.
Gibson: Do you believe in the Bush doctrine?
McCain: I agree with the doctrine and I’d also like to give President Bush a little credit. After 9/11, every expert in the world said there would be another attack. We haven’t. America’s not safe. It is safer. I disagreed with strategy of Rumsfeld. I’m the only one who said so at the time. Had no confidence in then-Sec Def. Give credit to Bush for changing the strategy. We have one of the finest military leaders in American history in Gen. David Petraeus. McCain gives credit to Rudy Giuliani for leadership in NYC.
Ron Paul. I agreed with no nation-building, criticism of Clinton admin. But we fell short. Bush doctrine of preemptive war is not a minor change. This is huge. I don’t understand this. All options on the table to go after Iran? These are Third World nations. They’re not capable…They don’t attack us because we’re free and prosperous. It’s because we invade their countries.
Romney: Unfortunately, Ron, you need an understanding of radical Islam. The president is not arrogant. He’s acted to keep America safe. He did the right thing responding to the attack.
Thompson: This is a different world. Preemption has got to be an option under the right circumstances. We should only go in where we should and where we’re able to.
Giuliani: Ron’s analysis is really seriously flawed. The idea that we got attacked because of our foreign policy? It’s because of what they’ve done. Refers to returning money from Saudi prince. If you bother to listen to what they say, it comes out of their own perverted thinking.
Paul. Try to visualize how they would react if they did this to us.
Romney: I read their writings. Cites Sayyid Qutb.
Paul: We were occupying…
Huckabee: Takes heat off of Paul. Attacks Romney for criticizing his use of “arrogant.” I’m not taking cheap shots at the president. I’m going to be president of the United States on my own terms. Says the policies were arrogant, not the president.
When there is a serious threat to our country…in the heart of the radical Islamic faith, this is a jihadist problem…if you read the writings…Qutb…they are prompted by drive to establish a worldwide caliphate.
Romney: I disagree with Huckabee’s Foreign Affairs article. I did support the surge.
McCain: Did you read mine? [Laughter.]
Giuliani: *Very strong.* Answers Paul’s American occupiers line with attacks on Bali, Leon Klinghoffer, Munich Olympics…
Gibson: Move on to domestic policy. I had promised we wouldn’t have video questions. But we have a question from Bush’s last press conference…
Bush video: You can’t be president unless you have a firm set of principles…What are the principles that you were stand on in good times and bad times, what will be the underpinning of your decisions?
Question goes to McCain and Romney on constancy of principles. Gibson refers to sniping.
McCain: Refers to military oath he took at 17. Says his principles have been constant since then. He claims credit for pushing the surge first. Stuck to it and didn’t change. Glad everyone’s on board now. My principles and philosophy are those embodied in inalienable rights…
Romney: Stump speech. Strengthen families, better schools, health care, strong military. My overriding principle is keeping America the strongest nation on Earth.
Gibson notes, with disappointment, that McCain and Romney don’t sound like they disagree. “You sound…different.” Turns to Giuliani.
Giuliani: Starts stump speech…
Gibson interrupts to focus on flip-flopping, moderation for expediency…
Looks like no one wants to fight on fight night…
Huckabee says policies can change, but not principles. Recites Declaration of Independence. Endowed by our Creator.
Thompson: Our first principles are based on the Constitution. Civics 101 course. First principles – fiscal responsibility.
Paul: Why have we gone to war without a declaration of war. Unconstiutional monetary system. We don’t treat others so fairly. We’re the bully, we’re the policeman of the year. It’s bankrupting our country. We don’t live up to our principles. [Scattered applause.]
Gibson moves to health care. If we can afford a trillion dollar war in Iraq, why not medical insurance for all?
Giuliani: We basically have a private system. More government would lead to deterioration. If we go to socialized health care, where will Canadians go? [Laughter.]
McCain: Reward wellness and fitness…he’s worred about obesity and diabetes…
Romney: Touts Massachusetts health care.
Paul: Blames the war, “war-mongering,” inflation.
Paul is sitting in the wrong debate.
Thompson. Hmmph. [Laughter.] So if we would stop printing so much money, we could get out of the war and give health care to everybody…let’s face it…we’re probably not going to achieve total coverage…
7:54pm Eastern.
***Romney***: I like mandates.
Thompson: I didn’t think you’d admit it…[crosstalk]…
Romney says he wouldn’t mandate insurance coverage at federal level, but encourage other states to adopt Mass. model.
Like Fred said: Hmmph.
McCain on keeping costs down, Medicaid overcharging, disease management, etc. Does a little pharma-bashing, Hillary-style.
Romney defends pharma. They are doing the work of the free market. Innovation. They’re an important industry to this country.

The Facebook (yes, Facebook)/ABC News debates begin at 7pm Eastern tonight–GOP up first, then the Dems. ABC News is billing it as “fight night.” We’ll see. The anticipated photo-op of the night: All 10 of the GOP and Dem candidates on stage together. Will Denny K crash the party?
Stay tuned for liveblogging. You can watch a livestream of the debate at WMUR here.
Yes, I’ve got my Red Bull in hand…
Ten presidential candidates (six Republicans, four Democrats) will pull up swiveling chairs and take to the very same debate stage Saturday night in Manchester for two of those encounters on the presidential calendar that merit circling in bright red (and blue) magic marker.
ABC’s Charles Gibson has a bit of a different format in mind for the evening than we’ve seen in previous encounters — more genial than gotcha, like a very chatty (and very well-lit) kitchen table. But the candidates will surely provide the fireworks: In this excruciatingly brief window between Iowa and New Hampshire, subtly just doesn’t work.
The dynamics would be different even if the format was the same: We have the time crunch, of course, but we also have new frontrunners: “Barack Obama enters Saturday’s Democratic debate as the undisputed front-runner with a bull’s-eye on his back — and a humbled and hobbled Hillary Clinton itching to open fire,” writes the New York Daily News troika of Michael McAuliff, Ken Bazinet, and Michael Saul.
The Republicans get their 90 minutes first, starting at 7 pm ET from Saint Anselm College and broadcast live on ABC nation-wide — good entertainment while you’re staying up late waiting for returns from the Wyoming caucuses (and you know who you are).
The Democrats kick off shortly after that — following the photo-op of all photo-ops: All 10 on stage at once, sharing handshakes and awkward conversation.
Here’s a poll up at the Facebook politics page:
Latest CNN/WMUR poll shows Hill and Barry in a dead heat.

AlohaGuy, yes, I like Hunter and was commenting on the debate guys.
I would rate him up with Thompson and Romney regarding immigration. But don’t know if he will have to drop out.
Caption contest:
Gee Huck, you really fooled em in Iowa, I’m hoping to do the same thing here. Does this toupe make me look fat?
Agree with Lindsey
All this importance attached to ‘energy’ levels.
Paul has so much energy he is like Ricochet Rabbit bouncing off the walls
I want the substance behind the answers not trying to bank a cute point of the glass or a slick snake oil job.

I’m hurt, you don’t call anymore!

From the photo op pics its just like I thought, Huckabee and Mc’Cain are right at home in the company of liberals and well they should, they are liberals.
Ok, sorry, I’m just mystified that he isn’t doing better among Conservatives.
Gabe #92, Yup, that did it for me… he is certifiable.
Caption:
“It’s the Southern Accents – no one in Iowa knew what we were actually saying!”
(with apologies to all of you in the South)
Third photo down:
Why is Obama sucking on Romney’s cheek?
“Did you hear it’s the bloggers who are messing up journalism?”
“Yep and I can’t wait for the next YouBoob debate!”
I tried to watch the next one but, I couldn’t do it. I got enough silliness from Paul in the first one.
Huckabee is a small little man…Thompson looks great….McCain will go to his deathbed trying to get AMNESTY for illegals….Ron Paul is an idiot….Guiliani definitely knows his Islamic facism history down pat…I find that comforting….Romney is doing well.
That is my take.
Silky:
“I’m up next. How does my lipstick look? My eye shadow?”
I’m getting flutter fatigue
So this debate is about Charlie Gibson and what he thinks is important?
Hitlery Klintoon
“We have to make sure the government has to work together”

Just like the wall her husband built between agencies?

Stole that from AJ – LOL!
Heads up, Azygos!
MM has a separate thread going for the deocrats’ debate.
They are still running against Bush
Oops
Richardson reminds me of Lumpy from Leave it to Beaver. He’s just kind of happy to be there. Not much to say. He’ll talk when asked, but other than that he’s just there.
Hillary is still running against GWB
Calls a duely elected president a Regime.
Stroking the base, but no respect for the office or our electoral process
sorry didn’t know
Hillary point out change in the others
Ms what did the focus group say this morning has zero room to talk
Okay, play fair unless you are doing the Caption Contest.
One last one because I am warped!
Silky:
“If I get the nomination and you don’t, will you tell you people to vote for me? I love the middle class in case you didn’t know.”
I guess by “dealing with the problem” you mean “taking the Feds to court to make them leave the poor helpless illegals alone”.
Didn’t hear that one Gabe…Obviously I don’t have to defend something that was a mistake. Ron Paul has written more than all the other Repbulican candidates combinded about foreign policy. Just visit his Library: http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/index.php
Specifically he has a whole section on 9/11: http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/topic.php?id=24
In reality, what most don’t understand who criticze Ron Paul is the economics of what the New Republican War Mongering “let’s kill them before they kill us” party espouses. You only can print money out of thin air and go into debt for so long before the whole thing implodes. There’s a reason why gold just broke out to an all-time high. The Fed is scared of what Ron Paul represents. So is Fox!
Fed Up
Thompson/Hunter for me!
Mookie #93
That’s it! I’ve been trying hard to think of who I thought Richardson resembled ever since he entered this race. Not that I am a big Horatio fan, but this almost makes me like Richardson a little bit… or maybe not. But thanks for helping me finally make the connection.
The liberal axis ganged up on Mitt and he stood them down. Go Mitt!
#125 – You surely can’t be referring to Fred Thompson as part of that liberal axis?
Otherwise I don’t disagree with you at all except to say that Mitt’s conservatism is newly found.
Romney’s a politician. I want a statesman.
I want Fred.
I do not include Fred. Fred and Mitt both looked and sounded presidential tonight. Freds best night i think.
#127 name a statesman you like and is he/she not a politician? Your just throwing a slimeball.
All issues are moot if we lose sovereignty. If Fred and Hunter can’t win then all my energy is focused on Mitt.
Can someone summarize Ron Paul’s nuttiness in a nutshell (hehe) for me? I get that he’s weird, but as a mom with a new baby I have NO time to be researching him.
Fred is looking like the best choice to me.
#130 – Don’t get me wrong, I think Ron Paul is a “nut,” but every now and again if you listen really, really close, he might have a decent idea. But geez, it’s overshadowed by zillions of ridiculous ideas and statements.
Fred did the best, in my book.
He’s the conservative on the stage.
Now, how the heck do you log into HotAir?
You need a special super-secret password, available by invitation only.
I desperately want to be able to comment on Hot Air!
I hadn’t heard this before so I googled it and found the following quote:
Sitting down with Maliki and setting some private goals to work toward is NOT the same as Congress setting mandated timetables that are published for our enemies to see. It’s called having a “plan.” Rightwing critics have dinged the President and Rumsfeld for not having a plan to win the peace.
If you don’t have goals or timetables to work toward, you don’t have a plan; and if the plan is private and not mandated by Congress, it can be changed whenever circumstances change. What is wrong with that? Would you rather have no plan, no timetables, and no presure put on Maliki to make progress in Iraq?
I consider someone a politician if it seems their game is mostly about getting themselves elected or keeping their party in power. I consider them a politician if their positions on issues change to match whatever might make them more popular at the time. This is how I see Romney.
I would also consider someone a politician if they almost reflexively attack members of the other party on any issue that arises. A prime example of this is the way Ted Kennedy called for the resignations of President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld when the Abu Ghraib story broke.
The mark of a statesman, and there are precious few of them in this day and age, is someone who will put the good of the country ahead of personal interests. A statesman’s positions are based on unwavering principles and values which guide their actions.
I’m backing Fred in this race. I believe he comes the closest to being a statesman of any of candidates.
I also believe that in many ways President Bush is a statesman. He doesn’t change directions according to the way the wind blows. When he tells you where he stands on something, you can count on it. Is he perfect? No. And I don’t always agree with him. But he’s a lot more honest and principled than any of the BDS people will ever admit.
You might say all of the candidates are politicians if you believe running for elective office automatically makes one a politician. I don’t.
I do not believe calling Romney a politician constitutes throwing a slimeball, which I would consider a gratuitous insult with no reason. A politician is how I see him.
Here is a summarization of Ron Paul’s “nuttiness,” from the perspective of a U.S. soldier:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/blog/lewrw/archives/018295.html
Fed Up
Oink, there’s a little “pork” in that statement, don’t you think?
Fed Up
That stinks you have to have a special password.
What do you have to do? Have a background check done or something?
When Fred who was McCain’s Presidential Campaign Manager, who as a former prosecutor voted NOT GUILTY for Clinton’s PERJURY charge – when THAT is your idea of “MOST CONSERVATIVE”…etc, etc, et al…
Kinda reminds me of women looking for husbands on Death Row.
And some do!!!
That is something I can do without.
Duncan Hunter reminds me more of what I am looking for. He fights for border security and for our military guys.
Re Ron Paul, this is the first campaign in my lifetime where a candidate would gain the support of Nazis, or proclaim the philosophy of Nazis, IN THE GOP – and not be asked by the GOP to leave the party.
Usually, if they inadvertantly gain support from Nazis, they would INSTANTLY distance themselves and denounce such events – Ron Paul has their support and doesn’t return the money or denounce them, just makes them happier all the time.
And if any of you care, the older dictionaries give full definitions, showing that Nazis are just as much Socialists as Communists, or Liberals.
Socialism is the philosophy, the other three are political organs for it. only slight variations.
Michelle you need the still that Bryan put up at Hot Air with Edwards and Huckabee.
Pull My Finger
Is this the pull my finger gag?
A fraternity gaggle?
Most impressive in the debates was Fred Thompson by far! Calm and had a presence none of the others projected.
My vote will be for Thompson. As a second choice, Mitt. Seems McCain took nerve pills so he wouldn’t show his temper.
Huckabee was out of his league.
DEMONCRAPS; NONE
Edwards sounded like a country bumpkin and spews the same ole same ole….broken record with a smile.
Hillary looked angry.
Obama, most dignified.
Why is it that once again no questions regarding Illegal Immigration was addressed to the Demos??????????
I want to hear their exact course of action or lack thereof.
I only watched the Republican debate.
I’ve really had it with McCain. He’s not telling the truth about his support for the immigration bill. Not only did he vote YES, but he went on the senate floor to advocate for the bill. He is trying to redefine Amnesty. That bill was amnesty. Unfortunately, Mitt didn’t do a great job deflating McCain. He should have said, most Americans define that bill as amnesty. you can try to redefine it, but it’s what it is.
Duncan Hunter is nowhere to be seen. That’s alarming. A Youtube search says no videos available. They are there but not searchable? Who is running his campaign? There are things to be done without money? Wading through comments on many sites, the main argument against him seems to be that he likes Ann Coulter? I’m sure he likes Michelle also, so is that a reason to come out against him or for him? Michelle, you need to get some air time again. Can you go over to Lou Dobbs?
Fred Thompson did what he does best. He defined illegal immigration and amnesty completely with the fewest words possible. Just like he defines all his other policies. We can’t let this guy go! He runs for office because he cares about the country. There is very little ego. Again, We can’t let him go!!
One other comment for me. I too noticed that Fred pretty much stayed out of the love fest with all the candidates. It was kind of telling as you see who gravitated to who.
I believe Fred is the only sincere person.
He doesn’t care who likes him. He doesn’t pander nor does he parse words.
He speaks little but his what he says, speaks volumes.
Newt Gingrich poll has Thompson first and Hunter second unless you count other.
My caption for the top photo:
Edwards: “I can’t smile because that bastard Romney just gave me a wedgie!”
Thompson/Hunter is my favorite ticket. Straightest talking duo in national politics, and they both “get it”.
From what I was able to gain of the debate Thompson sounds like the best conservative along with Hunter. The Romney statement about liking mandates just made him radioactive to me. McCain continues to be a lying crapweasel along with Giuliani on illegal immigration. I trust the Huckster about as far as I can throw him and doubt if I can even pick him up. Everybody’s favorite crazy uncle Ron Paul proved he is totally out there. Thanks for covering this no-event Michelle it only confirmed the way I already feel about most of the GOP field.
I thought Fred did real well I hope he resonates with voters.
Fred and Ducncan are the only real Conservatives, I wish they were running 1-2.
McCain’s scorn and childish attacks were awful, he sees himself ahead in the polls and instantly becomes a petty Jack in Lord of the Flies.
He’s resentful, angry and a Democrat.
I also think that an honest look at Mitt shows a very good Presidential candidate CEO ability that goes right through the roof, if we want our government to function as it should combined with his very good moral compass, Mitt is a great choice.
In the aftermath of the Iowa Caucas, there are lessons to be learned; and Republican voters must heed them, and soon coalesce around their most formidable candidate. What are these lessons, and who is this candidate? See the answer at:
http://sheetanchor.wordpress.com/2008/01/05/a-house-divided-will-not-stand/
I wonder what Ron Paul would say about the Barbary WArs. They were attacking us to prevent those bases in Saudia Arabia 250 years later? The Barbary Wars
Question for Senator McCain and Mayor Guliani: Since your plans for illegal immigration do include a modest $3000 fine, I agree that it is not amnesty. It is worse – it is bribery. How does you plan differ from an illegal alien offering a BP agent $3000 to look the other way while the alien sneaks across the border?
Your plan just accepts the bribe AFTER the crime has been committed. Please explain.
McCain just looked like a prick the entire time. Real conservatives need to do what it takes to get him and Huckabee out of the running ASAP. Then at least the choices are palatable.
Pants on Fire
“McCain Pushes Amnesty, Guest-Worker Program,” reported the Tucson Citizen of May 29, 2003.
The senator is quoted as saying: “Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here and pay taxes here and are not citizens. That has to be a component of it.”
The newspaper also quoted McCain as saying: “I think we can set up a program where amnesty is extended to a certain number of people who are eligible and at the same time make sure that we have some control over people who come in and out of this country.”
I count twice in that paragraph that McCain used the word — amnesty — to describe the thing he favored — amnesty.
So who’s the liar?
Edwards: I told you, I just have a W I D E stance.
Huckabeen: OK sure ( while thinking.. you’re still in my space, hairboy)
Edwards: Sh*t, here comes that pual ron guy or whatever his name is…

HUCK: Hey, is that my free health care I feel?
Davenp35….McCain IS a PRICK ! That guy is arrogant and has a big temper. Have you ever see him go after a witness who doesn’t agree with him at a committee hearing?
Fred did best in this debate!!!
That’s why I gave him more money….GO FRED!!!!
The debates were both solid because FINALLY there was a moderator that asked tough questions. Charlie Gibson did an excellent job, and should be brought back.
Also, the weeding out of the lesser candidates that did nothing but cause distractions was helpful.
The Fox News Debate will be even better with Rupaul off the stage.
I did write ups of both debates, which I published this morning.
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express

Ombre Rose…not so sure Thompson wasn’t looking down the road when he voted against Clintoon’s perjury…look what he saw…2 or 3 yrs of the Gorbal as president, then Gorbal running as for the presidency as the incumbent. Maybe he was a visionary, just maybe.
whooops…sorry…
damn proof reader must be inop.
GO FRED!!!
caption contest!
“If I’m not Obama’s VP choice can I be yours?
The primary reason I cannot respect this man or the moonbats that campaign on his behalf.
I’ve forgotten, which country had we invaded prior to 9/11? /s
Tomorrow? No. However, we deported a million of them in 2006, so it is doable. At that rate, we could have it done in a decade. Couple that effort with policy changes that stop rewarding illegals and a border wall/fence, and we will all but solve the problem. We will never stop it completely, but if we reduce the problem by 75-90%, that qualifies as a success.
Oh, FYI, Ron Paul is a nutjob. Had to get that in.
Caption for the first picture:
EDWARDS: I’ll kick your a$$
HUCK: Bring it on Silky!
LMAO I crack myself up
McCain is still for amnesty. Just as he’s climbed back into contention, he reiterates his amnesty plan. What an idiot. Guillani ducked the amnesty question. If both of them don’t plumment in the polls, I’ll be shocked.
At this point this needs to be a Romney/Thompson race. The others (not Hunter) are scaring the hell out of me.
Hmmmm. Missed the Pubbie “debate”. And what I saw of the Dhimmi’s and the newfound “leader” Hussein Osmarma, was largely uninspiring- I mean the Governor of New Mexico is the “candidate” with the most executive level public service experience out of all of the “front runners”.
Hillary is sounding like the jilted prom date sitting in the corner as the dance goes on without her— acting as if it is no big deal that her date is passed out drunk in the car. And all those crowd panning shots showing the loathesome Chelsea “smiling” at her mother’s “witty” comebacks.
PUHLEEEEEEEEEZ! Can we just disqualify her completely because she failed to beat even Silky Pony in Iowa? Doesn’t she have any pride at all? What did she think would happen by asking Madeline HalfBright to campaign for her?
The nagging question is: when will the RNC figure out a way to knock Pon Raul out of the race?
oy!
I think the Rominator is leaking oil. He doesnt seem to be weathering the Iowa punch very well. McCain doesn’t want to be President. He wants to get props and notariety from the public as a Great American to counter all the pigs and sleaze he has had to lay down with to survive in Washington. McCain’s leadership mind has been baked.
Duncan Hunter has the youth and vitality and verve to lead this country. Fred might hang around long enough to land some knock out blows on Giuliani and Mitt.
But who knows? If the media and Oprah continue to create the Manchurian Candidate in Obama, it could all be moot.
Bottom line: we are in for a bloody decade with bungling leadership in the White House at best.
There is a mantra going on about “healing the nation”. Not a chance. The President no longer leads the nation.
Who does the media think they are fooling?
Ombre Rose,
Isn’t it better that Ron Paul take their money and put it to good use rather than they putting it to use for their causes?
Are you aware that the Constitution of the United States gives ANYONE the right to contribute to ANYONE? Would you like to change the Constitution to make it that only those with the name of “Ombre Rose” can contribute? That’s how you come off with your holier than thou attitude of judge and jury.

Fed Up:
Pon Raul has a strategic problem because at some point he will have to cut bait with these snakes or endear their cause as part of his own.
How will that play in Peoria? The upper East side?
Hi Bear1909,
Interesting point. By snakes I assume you mean the Fox News Fab 5!
Having grew up in Peoria (grade school and high school), and knowing your point which has nothing to do with Peoria any longer, but was a good Johnny Carson plug, lol…I believe Ron Paul will cut bait as you put it.
It will be as a 3rd party candidate.
I really don’t expect him to win the republican nomination, but the “New” Republican Party is doomed either way with the “New” warmongering, Islamofacism platform. This was shown to be true when America voted in the Dems in 2006 and the Republicans lost the House and the Senate.
The difference with Ron Paul running as a 3rd party candidate is…., I truly believe that with 10 more months exposure, Ron Paul’s message of being a stict Constitutionalist will be heard by enough people, especially the apathetic and the youth, to get out and vote for him (the same groups of people who haven’t voted in the past).
We’ll know soon enough so any discussion at this point is moot.
(Being from the Midwest, we never really did like NY, so I don’t give a hoot about the upper Eastside!)
Peace,
Fed Up
