B.S. alert: Hillary’s “Iron My Shirt” hecklers; Update: Video added, stage manager Hillary tell staffers to turn the lights on; Update: A radio show prank?; Update: Meet the goofballs from WBCN’s Toucher and Rich Show

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 7, 2008 08:13 PM

Update: Follow-up question: Why didn’t the shock jock show staffers identify their affiliation to the Daily News? Was it a show-sanctioned prank or not?

Answer: See-Dub notes that another of the show’s staffers, Rich Shertenlieb, was apparently the same dork who held up one of these “Iron My Shirt” signs at the Masters in 2003.

Update: Reader Ron points to a Wikipedia entry that points to a possible radio prank. The hecklers had been identified by the NYDailyNews earlier in the day as Nick Gemelli and Adolfo Gonzalez–but the paper did not make the connection with the radio show. As Ron points out, the Wikipedia entry lists “Intern Nick” and “Adolfo” as staffers for a Boston radio station show called “The Toucher and Rich Show:”

* Fred Toucher
* Rich Shertenlieb - Show host
* Crash Clark - 3rd chair, news and sports
* B-Real - show producer
* Intern Nick - phone Screener (only on air if he makes an error on the phones, or to play a game.)
* Adolfo Gonzales, Jr. - Assistant producer

Hmmm. Allah has a video comparison and thinks these are the guys.

And here’s a Facebook screenshot of one Nick Gemelli (via Patrick Ishmael):

1gem.jpg

Yup. These appear to be the pranksters (from the WBCN Facebook fan page; Adolfo’s on top, the other guy’s not Gemelli; hat tip- Patrick Ishmael):

Here are a few screenshots of the guy who looks like Adolfo Gonzales being taken away by security:

1fatguy.jpg

1fatguy002.jpg

And here’s a screenshot from one of Adolfo’s YouTube videos:

1adolfo2.jpg

Losers. Their employer is WBCN radio in Boston.

Update: Here are two video clips of the heckling incident (hat tip - Patrick Ishmael). It’s so “spontaneous” that Hillary orders her staff while on stage to turn the lights on because “it’s awfully dark in here”–and, you know, she wants to make sure all the photographers get good pictures of the unexpected, unpredicted hecklers rudely interrupting her and giving her a perfect YouTube-able moment to stand up to sexism! Darn those hecklers!

See also the New York Daily News, which reports that one of the hecklers had some interesting stickers–pro-Hillary and pro-health care. Surprise! The other dude says he’s a “Republican.” Hmmm:

We followed.to ask what the heck they were thinking.

Nick Gemelli, who is 21, and born at least a decade after “iron my shirts” was an anti-women’s rights slogan, didn’t have much of a rationale. “I just don’t think a woman should be President,” he said. He couldn’t really say why, but he agreed that he was a health care voter, as the sticker on his carrying case implied. The “Hillary for President” sticker was a bit more of a puzzle. He said he had just been given both and peeled them off. He said he had no connection to any campaign.

At least he got some attention. His friend — a la Bart Simpson — said his name was Hugh Jas, but The Mouth later learned that his real name is Adolfo Gonzalez Jr.

Update Adolfo apparently has a MySpace page that says he is a Republican who doesn’t do drugs or have a girlfriend, and calls himself “Captain Fun.” He did seem to enjoy himself more than Nick.

Hillary Clinton was at a Salem, NH rally earlier today where two male hecklers held up signs that read “Iron My Shirt.” They also yelled the odd slogan at delicate Hillary, who showed her jocular but steely side and batted down the sexist diatribe. Spontaneously, of course. Like those watery eyes. Several MSM outlets are reporting on the incident and MKH at Townhall blogged it from the scene.

Haven’t seen any video yet, but Anne Korblut notes that the hecklers were young students. Is your B.S. detector going off yet?

The two young men were quickly booed by the audience and escorted outside by the local police, and after repeatedly being asked, finally said they were protesting the notion of having a woman in the White House.

They declined to elaborate. One of the young men, who said he is a 21-year-old student, was told he looked too nice to have that sort of attitude toward women, and replied, “Looks can be deceiving.”

Yeah, I have a feeling there’s some deception going on. Question the timing? You bet.

***

In comments, Mookie notes that college goofballs have held up the sign–with profanity added–at feminist events. The question is whether someone in the campaign happened to encourage goofballs like these to show up today. There’s a history of that in the Hillary campaign, you know…

***

More from the NYTimes:

“Oh, the remnants of sexism are alive and well,” Mrs. Clinton said.

When everyone had settled down a bit, she said, “As I think has just been abundantly demonstrated, I am also running to break through the highest and hardest glass ceiling.”

Her words were drowned out by a cheering, now-standing crowd.

“That’s one of the things I love about it,” she said. “It’s never predictable.”

Oh, I beg to differ. She’s as predictable as rain in Seattle, fog in San Francisco, and wildfires in Malibu.

The Anchoress, 1/2/08:

What I dread most in this political season is the “genuine” moment - and it is coming, soon, sometime between today and tomorrow, or tomorrow and New Hampshire - when Mrs. Clinton, in her ongoing effort to turn herself into whatever the polls says she must be, cries in public. It’s going to be genuinely ghastly.

Hillary Clinton, 1/7/08: Boo-hoo-hoo.

“Iron My Shirt” actually goes back to Rush Limbaugh, if I’m not mistaken.

I recall an anecdote from a Rush to Excellence performance where–and forgive me if I get part of this wrong–where Hillary comes to him and asks him to make her feel like a real woman.

After several minutes of stringing the audience along, the payoff is the punchline of him telling her to iron his shirt.

It’s really much funnier when told by Rush. LOL

I confess to being too shocked at the collapse of the Hillary campaign to have anything to say regarding this or any other Hillary incident. For 16 years, the Clintons have been untouchable. Think of it: nobody anywhere was able to hold them accountable for anything. Talk about Teflon. And then in the span of a few weeks, the Evil Clinton Empire collapsed. How? Why? The only thing I can suggest is that given the triumph of identity politics that we have seen this year, Hillary would have had to match Obama in youth and energy and that was not going to happen. It appears the average democrat looks upon the prospect of a continuing Clinton legacy with the same excitement that they would a date with their grandparents. So it’s over. I would like to think this is a good thing, that the disturbance in the force has been healed at last, but I worry. She at least was the devil conservatives knew. Now we are faced with one we do not know: quite likely Obama and there is no question he is a formidable campaigner. With that geezer McCain going against him, should it happen, the outcome is not in doubt.
