Help pick Hillary’s new campaign theme song
Update: I like Don Surber’s “Muskie.”
***
Hey, remember back in May when Hillary asked supporters to help her choose her new campaign theme song?
She picked Celine Dion’s “You and I,” but dropped the tune earlier this month. It’s time, in light of her teary-eyed performance today, to pick a new one, don’t you think?
My nominees:
A golden oldie: The Tears of a Clown…
Something contemporary: Big Girls Don’t Cry – Personal (Fergie)…
And a little R&B to show her funky diva side…Don’t Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)…
Taking up one of the commenters’ suggestions below, here’s Ella Fitzgerald’s version of “Cry Me A River:”

This “woman” is not only a singularly unqualified, corrupt, lying, and calculating presidential candidate, she’s also quite an a**hole. That boo hoo moment is the beginning of the end.
I just hear in the back of my head – everyone join in:
I’d like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony…

“Liar” by Korn
“Dude Looks Like a Lady” by Aerosmith
“Shakedown” by Akon
“Anarchy” by Busta Rymes
“Chinese Democracy” by Guns N’ Roses
“Love Me, I’m A Liberal” by Phil Ochs
“Back in The USSR” by the Beatles
“Hitler’s Girlfriend” by Dime Store Prophets
Found this on YouTube — it’s by far the BEST one I’ve ever heard!!!
I think this one says it all:
“B*tch”
I hate the world today
You’re so good to me
I know but I can’t change
Tried to tell you
But you look at me like maybe
I’m an angel underneath
Innocent and sweet
Yesterday I cried
Must have been relieved to see
The softer side
I can understand how you’d be so confused
I don’t envy you
I’m a little bit of everything
All rolled into one
Chorus:
I’m a b*tch, I’m a lover
I’m a child, I’m a mother
I’m a sinner, I’m a saint
I do not feel ashamed
I’m your hell, I’m your dream
I’m nothing in between
You know you wouldn’t want it any other way
“Why Don’t You Love Me Like You Used To Do?”
by Hank Williams Sr.
GREAT!
Aww soap, that was almost as cruel as the picture.LOL
Your Mind’s on Vacation and Your Mouth Is Working Overtime
I think we all forgot the most obvious one … Crying … Roy Orbison …
I was all right for a while,
I could smile for a while
But I saw you last night,
you held my hand so tight
As you stopped to say “Hello”
Ah you wished me well, you couldn’t tell
That I’d been crying over you,
crying over you
Then you said “so long”
left me standing all alone
Alone and crying, crying, crying, crying
It’s hard to understand but the touch of your hand
Can start me crying
I thought that I was over you but it’s true, oo so true
I love you even more than I did before
but darling what can I do
For you don’t love me and I’ll always be
Crying over you, crying over you
Yes, now you’re gone and from this moment on
I’ll be crying
I thought that I was over you but it’s true, oo so true
I love you even more than I did before but darling what can I do
For you don’t love me and I’ll always be
Crying over you, crying over you
Yes, now you’re gone and from this moment on
I’ll be crying
crying, crying, crying
Yeah crying, crying, crying over you
“I Am A Lonesome Fugitive” (Merle Haggard)
It’s My Party (and I’ll cry if I want to)

“Che gelida manina” (What a frozen little hand)
“…And now that I have seen you, all of my lovely dreaming,
all of the sweetest dreams I’ve dreamt, quickly have slipped away.”
“You broke my heart, so I busted your jaw”
Pigs by Pink Floyd
Big man, pig man, ha ha charade you are.
You well heeled big wheel, ha ha charade you are.
And when your hand is on your heart,
You’re nearly a good laugh,
Almost a joker,
With your head down in the pig bin,
Saying “Keep on digging.”
Pig stain on your fat chin.
What do you hope to find.
When you’re down in the pig mine.
You’re nearly a laugh,
You’re nearly a laugh
But you’re really a cry
Perhaps somone will write “Don’t Cry For Me, America” for her.
Stand By Your Man Tammy Wynette
or possibly Billy Jeffs original pickup line used on her:
They say that youre a Snow Queen, but darlin I dont think thats true, so
Why Dont We Get Drunk and Screw – Jimmy Buffett
Jonathan Coulton, “Someone is crazy”
Is Bitter there?
I’d rather talk to her than Disappointed
Though she’s not quite as fun as Good and Mad Better put her on
She can change the game
She can make me say I’m sorry
You throw your hands up in the air and swear you didn’t know
You think the world revolves around you but it doesn’t so you sit and spin
Baby someone is crazy and it’s you
Someone is crazy and it’s you
You set the trap
You lie and wait till someone trips the wire
Then you jump out to get your feelings hurt
And you act surprised
How did that get there?
Why does everybody hate me?
We’re all familiar with the tragedy of being you
It’s hard to show you any sympathy when all you do is beg for pain Baby someone is crazy and it’s you
You’re all alone
Well maybe that’s because you’re so unpleasant
You might consider dialing back a bit
Put those claws away
Stop the waterworks
Spend a couple evenings sober
The world’s against you so you think or maybe wish it was
And at least that way someone would care but baby no one does
Not even you
Baby someone is crazy and it’s you
Someone is crazy and it’s you

How about Dead Skunk in The Middle of the Road
Crossin’ the highway late last night
She shoulda looked left and she shoulda looked right
She didn’t see the station wagon car
The skunk got squashed and there you are!
(Chorus)
You got yer
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinkin’ to high Heaven!
Take a whiff on me, that ain’t no rose!
Roll up yer window and hold yer nose
You don’t have to look and you don’t have to see
‘Cause you can feel it in your olfactory
(Repeat Chorus)
You got yer
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinkin’ to high Heaven!
Yeah you got yer dead cat and you got yer dead dog
On a moonlight night you got yer dead toad frog
Got yer dead rabbit and yer dead raccoon
The blood and the guts they’re gonna make you swoon!
(Repeat Chorus – One more time!)
You got yer
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
You got yer dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinkin’ to high Heaven!
C’mon stink!
You got it!
It’s dead, it’s in the middle
Dead skunk in the middle!
Dead skunk in the middle of the road
Stinkin’ to high heaven!
All over the road, technicolor man!
Oh, you got pollution
It’s dead, it’s in the middle
And it’s stinkin’ to high, high Heaven!
Ten Years After: “I’d Love To Change The World”.
How about “Hit The Road, Jack”
Hit the road, Jack, and don’t you come back no more, no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road, Jack and don’t you come back no more.

“We passed the point of no return
How can we make amends?
All alone I watch the candle burn
Burnin´ at both ends
Nothin´s ever gonna change
Can tears wash away this pain?
CHORUS:
Tears in the rain
Here it comes again
I´ll never know the reason why
I cry these tears in the rain
The time has come to make a stand
We´ve waited much too long
Nobody´s gonna lead us by the hand
How could we be so wrong?
We lost the chance to play this game
Can tears wash away this pain?
CHORUS
So many times I´ve wondered why
We still play this game”
CHORUS

My nomination is Madonna’s version of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” except substituting Venezuela for Argentina. Parenthesis are my additions etc.
“It won’t be easy, you’ll think it strange (yup)
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love after all that I’ve (and Bill) done
You won’t believe me (damned straight!)
All you will see is a girl (say what?) you once knew
Although she’s dressed up to the nines
At sixes and sevens with you (she’s just a commoner don’t ya know)
I had to let it happen, I had to change (to Socialism)
Couldn’t stay all my life down at heel (as you all will after my coronation)
Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun (vampires and sun don’t mix well ya know)
So I chose freedom (except for the middle class who I am gonna tax the hell out of)
Running around, trying everything new (Marx, Lenin, a little Castro and Che [love the beret, it’s so en vogue])
But nothing impressed me at all (well, maybe all of your money that I’m going to have such a delicious time wasting)
I never expected it to
Don’t cry for me Venezuela The truth is I never left you
All through my wild days
My mad existence (current as well as former)
I kept my promise
Don’t keep your distance (except for you little bia***es chasing my Willy-boy or you’re gonna get Vince Fostered. Do you hear me? Fostered!!)…
“Won’t get fooled again” – The Who
“Death March of the Marionette”
Plop plop, fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is…Alka Paxil.
She loves Barbara Streisand…
So…
Isn’t it rich,
Aren’t we a pair
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air
Send in the clowns
Isn’t it bliss,
Don’t you approve
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can’t move
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns
Well, at least she didn’t show the bottom half!
In stark contrast to the “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow” theme song of the Bill Clinton campaign:
Gold Dust Woman – Fleetwood Mac
Rock on–gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon,
And dig your grave
Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I’ll pray
Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise–loves–to go down
Lousy lovers–pick their prey
But they never cry out loud
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now–do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.
Rock on–ancient queen
Follow those who pale
In your shadow
Rulers make bad lovers
You better put your kingdom up for sale
Did she make you cry
Make you break down
Shatter your illusions of love
Is it over now–do you know how
Pick up the pieces and go home.
For crying out loud, I won’t be able to get Bill Clinton’s nipple out of my head now! Darn you, Michelle!
Tax the Rich,
Feed the Poor
Til there are no rich no more.
I’d love to change the world,
butand Idon’tknow just what to dosoI’ll justleavestick itupto you. There fixed it to fit her official policy.
Jefferson Airplane’s White Rabbit might be appropriate, with the hallucinations and all.
Of course Bill didn’t actually inhale, so it stands to reason that Hill didn’t either since they spent the drug years together.
Barry Mcguire’s “Eve of Destruction” comes to mind!
How about
“Enema” by Tool
“Creep” by Radiohead
“Don’t Come Around Here No More” by Tom Petty
“Your Wildest Dreams” by the Moody Blues
“Running on Empty” by Jackson Browne
“Who Made Who” AC/DC
“Boogie Man” Aerosmith
Really, how can you run on a platform of “change” when you lived at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave for 8 years? She is “the establishment.” Really, anyone who wants our government to be like it was intended is derided as crazy. Look at Ron Paul.
I agree with him in that America should get back to its roots, but you can’t change it right back like flipping on a light switch.
That’s the one I linked to the lyrics on in post #90, jrlingreenbay. LOL
Here’s the video, via YouTube, for those who would rather listen to it.
See if you don’t find a lot of Hillary in different aspects of this song.

Just change “KOREA” to IRAQ !
“How does it feel
How does it feel
To be without a home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?
You’ve gone to the finest school all right, Miss Lonely
But you know you only used to get juiced in it
And nobody has ever taught you how to live on the street
And now you find out you’re gonna have to get used to it
You said you’d never compromise
With the mystery tramp, but now you realize
He’s not selling any alibis
As you stare into the vacuum of his eyes
And ask him do you want to make a deal?
How does it feel
How does it feel
To be on your own
With no direction home
Like a complete unknown
Like a rolling stone?”
– Bob Dylan
Great one #56!
“I’m so lonesome I could cry”–Elvis
Hank Williams said it best:
There’s a tear in my beer
’cause I’m cryin’ for you,dear
you are on my lonely mind.
Into these last nine beers
I have shed a million tears.
You are on my lonely mind
I’m gonna keep drinkin’
until I’m petrified.
And then maybe these tears
will leave my eyes.
There’s a tear in my beer
cause I’m crying’ for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.
2:
Last night I walked the floor
and the night before
You are on my lonely mind.
It seems my life is through
and I’m so doggone blue
You are on my lonely mind.
I’m gonna keep drinkin’
till I can’t move a toe
and then maybe my heart
won’t hurt me so.
There’s a tear in my beer
cause I’m cryin’ for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.
3
Lord, I’ve tried and I’ve tried
But my tears I can’t hide
You are on my lonely mind.
All these blues that I’ve found
Have really got me down
You are on my lonely mind
I’m gonna keep drinkin’ till I can’t even think
Cause in the last week I ain’t slept a wink
There’s a tear in my beer
cause I’m crying for you dear
You are on my lonely mind.
How about, “I shot the sheriff, but did not kill the deputy” or
Bye Bye Miss American Pie”

Has anyone mentioned Foreigner’s “Cold as Ice”?
You’re as cold as ice
You’re willing to sacrifice our love
(there are plenty of words that could be substituted for ‘love’)
You never take advice
Well, someday you’ll pay the price (I hope!)
Maybe Hillary’s tears are proof there really is global warming?
One last suggestion …
The Eagles … Witchy Woman
Raven hair and ruby lips
Sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night
She’s a restless spirit on an endless flight
Wooo hooo witchy woman, see how
High she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got
The moon in her eye
She held me spellbound in the night
Dancing shadows and firelight
Crazy laughter in another
Room and she drove herself to madness
With a silver spoon
Woo hoo witchy woman see how high she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye
Well I know you want a lover,
Let me tell your brother, she’s been sleeping
In the devil’s bed.
And there’s some rumors going round
Someone’s underground
She can rock you in the nighttime
’til your skin turns red
Woo hoo witchy woman
See how high she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman
She got the moon in her eye

For the Eagles fans…New York Minute
H(il)arry got up
Dressed all in black
Went down to the station
And (s)he never came back
They found
hisher clothingScattered somewhere down the track
And (s)he won’t be down on
WallK Streetin the morning
(S)He had a home
The love of a girl
But men get lost sometimes
As years unfold
One day (s)he crossed some line
And (s)he was too much in this world
But I guess it doesn’t matter anymore
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
Things can get pretty strange
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
Lying here in the darkness
I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency (guess Hsu?)
Somebody’s going to jail (guess Hsu?)If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hand on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
Things can get a little strange
In a New York Minute
Everything can change
In a New York Minute
And in these days
When darkness falls early
And people rush home
To the ones they love
You better take a fool’s advice
And take care of your own
One day they’re here;
Next day they’re gone

Here’s an old musical number from Royal Wedding that could be a duet from Bill & Hillary, or could be Hillary speaking to the voters:
How could you believe me when I said I loved you when you know I’ve been a liar all my life
You’ve had that reputation since you was a youth
You must have been insane to think I’d tell you the truth!
Video is here.
It’s supposed to run over 6 minutes. It cuts out after about three, but it still gives a good chunk of the lyrics.
You sure have been a liar
A double-crossing liar
All my doggone cheatin’ life
JohnnyNJ
You missed a good Brenda Lee one …
I’m Sorry
I’m sorry, so sorry
That I was such a fool.
I didn’t know
Love could be so cruel.
Oh oh oh oh uh-oh oh yes.
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don’t right
The wrong that’s been done.
[spoken]
(I’m sorry) I’m sorry –
(So sorry) So sorry.
Please accept my apology,
But love is blind,
And I was to blind to see.
Oh oh oh oh uh-oh oh yes.
You tell me mistakes
Are part of being young
But that don’t right
The wrong that’s been done.
Oh oh oh oh uh-oh oh yes.
I’m sorry, so sorry
Please accept my apology
But love was blind,
And I was too blind to see.
(Sorry)

Cry Baby
Cry-y-y … ha ha ha ha … baby, cry baby, cry baby,
Welcome back home.
I know she told you,
I know she told you that she loved you
Much more than I do,
But I know she left you,
And you swear that you just don’t know why,
Well, you know that I’ll always be round
If you ever want me
Come on and cry, cry baby, cry baby, cry baby, yeah,
Oh, like you always seem to do.
‘I fall to pieces’ by Patsy Cline comes to mind but with a twist:
Desert Lover -
I do have “I’m Sorry” by Brenda Lee but I thought I remembered someone posting that one…I love all those old Brenda Lee and Connie Francis tearjerkers.

I’m So Bad Baby I Don’t Care
I make love to mountain lions,
Sleep on red-hot branding irons,
When I walk the roadway shakes,
Bed’s a mess of rattlesnakes,
Voodoo child, black cat bone,
Scratch your back, hear you moan,
Get me up, you go down, tall building, single bound,
War and peace, peace and love, say it if you dare,
Iron fist, velvet glove,
I’m so bad, baby I don’t care,
Black-hearted to the bone,
Older than The Rolling Stones,
Been to heaven, been to hell,
Bought the farm, and I won’t sell,
Give and take, rise and fall, rise up and take it all,
Secret love, I won’t tell, knock you up and ring your bell,
Kiss the whip, eat the gun,
Tell me it ain’t fair, midnight victim, hit and run,
I’m so bad, baby I don’t care,
I make the blind to see,
Shoot ‘em full of R and B,
I make the lame to walk,
Come ’round and pop your cork,
Wham, bam, thank you ma’am,
I thought I heard the back door slam,
Overkill, walk the line, kill the lights, it’s lampshade time,
On the road, on the lam, people running scared,
I’m everything they say I am, I’m so bad, baby I don’t care.
Heard a good one on the way home on the radio (from Lily Allen’s “Smile”):
At first when I see you cry,
yeah it makes me smile, yeah it makes my smile
At worst I feel bad for a while,
but then I just smile I go ahead and smile
Heh heh.

I’m So Lonesome I could Cry
Love Me, I’m a Liberal
By Phil Ochs
(Born 1940, died 1976)
I cried when they shot Medgar Evers
Tears ran down my spine
I cried when they shot Mr. Kennedy
As though I’d lost a father of mine
But Malcolm X got what was coming
He got what he asked for this time
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I go to civil rights rallies
And I put down the old D.A.R.
I love Harry and Sidney and Sammy
I hope every coloured boy becomes a star
But don’t talk about revolution
That’s going a little bit too far
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I cheered when Humphrey was chosen
My faith in the system restored
I’m glad the commies were thrown out
of the AFL-CIO board
I love Puerto Ricans and Negros
as long as they don’t move next door
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
The people of old Mississippi
Should all hang their heads in shame
I can’t understand how their minds work
What’s the matter don’t they watch Les Crain?
But if you ask me to bus my children
I hope the cops take down your name
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I read New Republic and Nation
I’ve learned to take every view
You know, I’ve memorized Lerner and Golden
I feel like I’m almost a Jew
But when it comes to times like Korea
There’s no one more red, white and blue
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
I vote for the Democratic Party.
They want the U.N. to be strong
I go to all the Pete Seeger concerts
He sure gets me singing those songs
I’ll send all the money you ask for
But don’t ask me to come on along
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
Once I was young and impulsive
I wore every conceivable pin
Even went to the socialist meetings
Learned all the old union hymns
But I’ve grown older and wiser
And that’s why I’m turning you in
So love me, love me, love me, I’m a liberal
Adding to my selections earlier.

I used to love her,
but I had to kill her

She drove me nuts

You made a fool of me,
but them broken dreams have got to end.
Hey woman, you got the blues,

You took my body and played to win,
Ha Ha woman it’s a crying shame,
But you ain’t got no one else to blame.
E-evil Woman, E-evil Woman, E-evil Woman, Evil Woman
Rolled in from another town,
Hit some gold too hot to settle down,
But a fool and his money soon go separate ways,
And you found a fool lyin’ in a daze,
Ha Ha woman what you gonna do,
You destroyed all the virtues
that the Lord gave you,
It’s so good that you’re feeling pain,
But you better get yourself on board the very next train.
Evil woman how you done me wrong,
But now you’re tryin’ to wail a different song,
Ha Ha funny how you broke me up,
you made the wine now you
drink the cup,
I came runnin’ every time you cried,
Thought I saw love smilin’ in your eyes,
Ha Ha very nice to know,
that you ain’t got no place left to go.
On-my-soapbox #179,

I know all about the crying game.
With her classic feminist wanting to have it both ways — especially with the “iron my shirt” b.s.
It has to be “I am Woman” by Helen Reddy !
Sorry aj. Isn’t that Billy’s song?
My voteS:
Magic Carpet Ride (Steppenwolf)
Witchy Woman (Eagles)
American Woman (Guess Who)
Can’t You See (What That Woman Been Doin’ to Me) – (Marshall Tucker Band)
Another One Bites the Dust (Queen)
DougT #184: Yep.
leepro — Cant You See is another good one for Bill, and maybe soon the rest of us.
Crying by Bjork
…
i move carefully
through the crowd
here everyone
is so vulnerable
and i’m as well
crying ’cause i need you
crying i can feel you
crying ’cause i need you
crying ’cause i care
Right!
