DLTDHYOTWO, Bill Richardson; Update: Is he or isn’t he?

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 9, 2008 07:23 PM

Update 9:30pm Eastern. Is he or isn’t he? AP reported that Richardson is withdrawing. Other MSM outlets say not so. It’s New Hampshire all over again!

***
Bill Richardson is withdrawing from the Dem presidential race. So much for his rallying cry, “On to the West!” See ya:

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson ended his campaign for the presidency Wednesday after twin fourth-place finishes that showed his impressive credentials could not compete with his rivals’ star power.

Richardson planned to announce the decision Thursday, according to two people close to the governor with knowledge of the decision. They spoke on a condition of anonymity in advance of the governor’s announcement.

But, but, but, didn’t you know that he was Energy Secretary and Governor of New Mexico!?!?

Guess it didn’t matter.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Deregulation of electricity in CA was signed by Pete Wilson (R). Rolling blackouts started in late 2000 during Clinton’s term and continued into 2001 during Bush’s (wonder what corporation was manipulating the market and who they supported). Spencer Abraham was Energy Sec. Wonder what he’s screwing up now? Maybe we should ask Fred?

According to an article in USAToday here:

California Gov. Gray Davis received at least $85,000 in Enron contributions since 1998, according to data from the National Institute on Money in State Politics and the California Secretary of State.

Enron contributed more than $2.4 million in individual, PAC, and soft money contributions to federal candidates and parties, ranking it among the top 50 organizational donors in the 1999-2000 election cycle. The company’s contribution total for the 2000 elections more than doubled its political donations in each of the two previous election cycles.

Enron has already contributed nearly $173,000 to candidates and parties so far this year, almost 90 percent to Republicans. Since the 1989-90 election cycle, Enron has made nearly $5.8 million in campaign contributions, 73 percent to Republicans. (Click here for a look at Enron’s total giving.)…..

The federal government’s involvement could create a quandary for President Bush, who raised nearly $114,000 in PAC and individual contributions from Enron in 1999-2000, making the company one of his biggest donors. Enron also donated $100,000 to the Bush/Cheney inaugural gala in January, a contribution that was matched by Enron’s chairman and chief executive, Kenneth Lay, and his wife. The Lays have contributed a total of almost $883,000 to candidates and parties since 1989, of which 90 percent went to Republicans. They are by far the largest political contributors among Enron employees. (Click here for a look at Enron’s biggest individual givers.)

Lay is a longtime friend of the president and was one of Bush’s top contributors during the presidential election and two gubernatorial campaigns in Texas. Lay, listed by the Bush/Cheney campaign as a Pioneer who raised at least $100,000 for the election, reportedly has been one of the administration’s closest advisors on energy policy since Bush took office.

Sorry, my bad, all Clinton’s fault.

What do you think the odds are he’ll endorse Hillary? Those Clintonites are really loyal, you know.

Sure, he only had 5% of the votes but that can make the difference in a close race. Also, consider the impact of having a Latino VP if Hillary chooses him.

Moreover, if it’s already not in play putting Richardson on a Hillary/Bill ticket could turn New Mexico, a state that went for Bush in 2004 into a Clinton state since Bush only won by 6,000 votes out of about 750,000.

While I don’t agree with many of his policies, Richardson had by FAR the best resume of any Democratic candidate. He had domestic experience as Governor of NM AND he had foreign policy experience as Ambassador to the UN… really a better resume than any candidate on EITHER side.

Gun Control/ 2A issues are my main domestic concerns. If Romney or Giuliani won the Republican nomination I could see myself voting for Richardson.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. It wasn’t Clinton’s fault, Bush’s fault or even Chester Arthur’s fault. Enron’s collapse was it’s own doing and all the political contributions Enron spread–and boy did Enron spread the cash–didn’t get the company anywhere.
