Meanwhile, in Gaza City

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 9, 2008 02:14 PM

Taking a break from election coverage, here’s your American flag desecration of the day via Yahoo! News (click for full image):

1flagburn.jpg

Who are they? They’re Palestinian Hamas supporters angry at West Bank moderates who’ve welcomed President Bush and the Annapolis folly. The Dems all argue that such widespread anti-Americanism is Cowboy Bush’s fault–even as Bush forges ahead with the very same, flawed diplomatic process they keep advocating as the “solution” for the Middle East. They’ve been burning American flags long before Bush was in office. And as the next president of the United States will discover soon enough, they’ll keep burning them no matter who’s sitting in the White House.

When is an American flag not being burned somewhere in the world?

***

Commenter DBNinKY:

“Where are Al Gore and his gang of global warming alarmists? Shouldn’t Al and the bunch be educating Hamas on outdoor burning as a contributory effect to global warming, given the vast number of Old Glories they singe each day? Don’t they care about the environment?”

Commenter Twiggman:

“We should burn the Hamas flag daily…see how that goes over.”

    When?
When our elites and our leaders finally get it that it is better to be feared and respected, rather than loved.

For, we will NEVER be loved.
    Never.

As long as we have a secure, stable, successful, prosperous country, with a high standard of living - which our U.S. socialist/fascists are doing their damnedest to destroy - we will be the envy of the world.

And, if you are envied; well, if you are not exactly hated, you certainly are not loved.

It reminds me of the left wing martyr/saint Rachel Corrie. She became a left wing nutroots saint/martyr when she threw herself in front of a bulldozer in Gaza that was trying to flush out a terrorist tunnel. The New Yorker Magazine and the New York Times Magazine were enraptured by Rachel. The MSM rushed out with a phony photo purporting to show the incident. The MSM ignored Corrie burning a paper US flag only days earlier. In the NY Times Magazine, the NY Times called Rachel Corrie everybody’s child and said Rachel Corrie’s critics were pathological. The New Yorker was even worse. But to the NY Times and the New Yorker, burning the American flag is a symbol of being hip.

“But to the NY Times and the New Yorker, burning the American flag is a symbol of being hip.”

    Exactly.

The NY Times and the New Yorker are just two of the innumerable examples of persistent adolescence we’ve been plagued with in our country for at least the last 40 years.
Hey, give the grownups the finger! Heh-heh-heh….

The entertainment & media elites, the education establishment, and leftist politicians, have been coarsening and corroding U.S. society for decades; and, by warping youngsters/students’ sense of citizenship and cultural history/identity, and graduating so many ignorant (but voting) souls, are essentially eating, and even burning, our cultural seed corn.

The reason it has taken so long for the erosion to reach the present tipping point is that we were so strong and stable, with a tremendous amount of cultural strength in reserve, so to speak, in the 40s, 50s, and 60s.

    But, no longer.

The future is gonna be nasty, even if we survive, which I believe we shall.

The definition of insanity is repeating he same action and expecting a different result. Sending money and support to “moderate” terrorists while pressuring Israel to make unilateral concessions in order to build up “support in the street” for the “moderate” terrorists after continued attacks and threats by both allies of the “moderates” and their opponents, the “extreme” terrorists, is now a pattern of failure. It is a chumps game. The only solution is to say “No” if there is no provocation for a stated period then there will be a stated response. If there are continued provocations then more housing will be built in the disputed area. They could have had it all in 1967, they could have had almost all in 1980, they could have had over 90% in 2000, now they can have less and if they continue to delay and provoke they will get at best a lot less.

If you burn an American Flag it’s free speech (just ask the ACLU), but if you burn the flag of another country, particularly a muslim country, it would be labeled Hate Speech, and you would probably be charged with a hate crime. Similar to putting a koran in the toilet.

Sontag turned Corrie from a terribly troubled and confused young woman into the very symbol of American youth. And to Sontag and the Times, this was objective reporting because youngsters like Corrie are the only young people they ever see.
I wrote to the Times and asked why the article never mentioned Corrie burning a paper American flag only days earlier. I got an answer from some flak at the Times saying that the flag burning was irrelevant. That is how outside the mainstream reporters at the NY Times are. Burning the flag in Gaza is to the Times, just an innocent form of protest against the Bush administration.
