We interrupt the campaign season for a border reality check

Thanks to a FOIA request from Judicial Watch, you can now get a clearer picture of the continued chaos at our southern border. GOP Rep. Tom Tancredo and other immigration enforcement activists have been sounding the alarm about Mexican government/military incursions at the border. These violations of American sovereignty have been going on for years. DHS Secretary Michael “Lettucehead” Chertoff’s response? Nada.

The information released to Judicial Watch adds new info. Bottom line: For fiscal year 2006 alone, there were 29 confirmed incidents along the U.S.- Mexican border involving Mexican military and/or law enforcement personnel, 17 of which involved armed Mexican government agents. Moreover, between 1996 and September 30, 2006, there were 253 confirmed incursions into the United States by Mexican government personnel.

Summary from Judicial Watch:

MEXICAN MILITARY ENCOUNTER (ARMED/INTENTIONAL) EL PASO – FORT HANCOCK STATION – At 2 P.M. on January 3, 2006, [Troopers] attempted to apprehend three vehicles believed to be smuggling contraband on I-10…As the vehicles approached the border, [Troopers] stated that a Mexican Military Humvee armed with a .50 caliber weapon and several soldiers were seen assisting smugglers return to Mexico…Officers then noticed several armed subjects dressed in fatigue type clothing unload the contraband into the Humvee. These subjects set fire to the stalled vehicle before leaving the area…

MEXICAN POLICE INCURSION (ARMED/INTENTIONAL) TUCSON NOGALES STATION – On June 2, 2006, a Border Patrol Agent assigned to the Nogales, Arizona station encountered two Mexican Police Officers that had illegally entered into the U.S. one mile west of the Mariposa Port of Entry…the Mexican Police Officers ran back into Mexico when ordered [by Border Patrol] to remain for questioning.

MEXICAN MILITARY INCURSION (ARMED/INTENTIONAL) EL CENTRO SECTOR – CALEXICO STATION – On September 16, 2006, a Border Patrol Agent assigned to the Calexico, California Station observed an individual in an olive drab uniform with a possible Mexican flag on the shoulder approximately 100 yards north of the International Border near the Calexico POE. The individual appeared to be carrying a sidearm and was running southbound to Mexico through the vehicle lanes of the Calexico POE.

The document also states that between 1996 and September 30, 2006 there were 253 confirmed incursions into the United States by Mexican government personnel. Prior to release to Judicial Watch, the Department of Homeland Security evaluated the information in the report as “For Official Use Only” and containing “Law Enforcement Sensitive Information.” Additional Mexican government incursion reports for 2003 through 2005 are available on the Judicial Watch Internet site at: http://judicialwatch.org/5898.shtml.

“These documents not only show the dangerous and chaotic situation at the Mexican border, but also the complicity of some Mexican government agents in violating U.S. law,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The U.S. government must begin to take these incidents more seriously, publicize them and take measures to bring the crisis at our border under control.”

The full report is here (PDF).

Perhaps the current field of GOP candidates should be asked about this dangerous anarchy. What exactly would they do to stop it–and why should we believe them?

On a related note, the Weekly Standard highlights a new campaign to get presidential candidates to pledge to build the fence that was already signed into law by President Bush, but just keeps shrinking by the day.

I’m all for pledges made by honest politicians who mean what they say. But when open-borders drag queens puff up their chests and tell me they’ll secure the borders, you’ll have to pardon me for refusing to suspend my disbelief.

Seems to be a few cases of drug or human smugglers and a lot of Mexican police lost or chasing suspects a few yards across the border. I liked the report of the officers 15 yards across the border at a site where the National guard had been constructing the fence but abandoned the site because of deployment to Iraq.
Send the Mexican Police and Military some GPS units (can’t you get OnStar in a Humvee), mark the border better and arrest the smugglers.

I live in the Big Bend area and the border is literally in my back yard (actually front yard). Last time the military spent time here they brought camels.
In my area (secter 6 Marfa in the report) they virtually closed the border in mid 2003. Up until that time cross border traffic was a daily event (and some still is) I have been warned a couple of times about crossing the river that the fines start at 10 grand. Try and explain that to a loose horse.
Since 2003 the border patrol has been increased in this area including the National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Also helicopters (ours), light planes, and P-3 Orions (I guess looking for Soviet subs).
Note in the chart the decrease since ‘03.
20-30 years ago the drugs came thru the area on pack mules (long trains of them). I guess now they have Escalades.
No, I really do not want a fence/wall/road in my yard (would you), and I do miss being able to freely cross.

There is a great deal to wonder about it – since it occurs with such frequency down here on the Texas border. One more recent incident had the Mexico agents setting up THREE MACHINE GUNS at one time, and openly firing in broad daylight several hundred yards on our side trying to help the drug smugglers get past the Texas authorities.

While Johnny Sutton continues to justify the false imprisonment of our Border Patrol agents for doing their duty!

And many Liberals in BOTH parties continue to justify their “MAJORITY POSITION” of OPEN BORDERS.

I would want a wall and a machine gun nest in MY front and back yards.

WASHINGTON — Mexican soldiers and police officers made more than 200 unauthorized incursions into U.S. territory from 1996 to Sept. 30, 2005, according to internal Homeland Security intelligence reports.

The annual intelligence summaries of “Mexican Government Incidents” were released Monday by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, which obtained them through a Freedom of Information Act request and circulated detailed reports from 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The annual bulletins convey the chaos and danger of the border — and the heart-wrenching losses for some of those trying to cross it………..

It is time to close the open range you have for a frontyard. Why trouble yourself with a wanderlust horse when you can have it confined within a fence?

Your logic reminds me of the range wars of the Old West. I am that proverbial farmer who wants to keep errant cattle from grazing upon his crops as the rancher drives his herd to market. Nowadays it is illegal aliens trampling public and private property en route to the job markets leaving garbage and damaging the environment.

If the government builds upon your property then yes you deserve just compensation. Damn the Kelo decision but eminent domain has its purpose. The fence serves a much greater good.

This is not new. The fact it is being reported is new, however Mexico has been violating the treaty of Hildago Guadalupe for decades. In the treaty it states that they will not have a military presance within three miles of the boarder.

This last year a report came out that included maps of listening posts and observatio posts over 100 miles north of the boarder being manned by the mexican military in New Mexico, Arizona , Nevada and Texas. These posts are there to keep watch on the drug trade. Or I should say for the drug runners. Among those who manned these posts are Zepatas, or Mexican military.

Make no mistake about it, we are being invaded from south of the boarder and our government is not doing anything about it.

http://www.americanpatrol.com/ has on a dialy basis news reports of the problems we face from those south of the boarder who are here and causeing trouble.

It would be nice if we put Sheriff Arapio in charge of the boarder.

I guess the laws of this nation mean nothing to our elected officials, but good forbid I do something wrong with Government funds or have a security violation then look who needs a lawyer. Don’t even get me started on the two agents jailed by the slimy lawyer Sutton. It is time to charge everyone in the DHS chain of command along with every Congress critter that has interfered when INS has tried to address this problem through enforcement with dereliction of duty, sedition, and/or treason.

It is getting very close to using the reset button of the document that is the basis of our laws and freedoms by rising up against our political masters thanks to the few remaining freedoms of the 2nd Amendment. It is time for our Government officials to enforce the laws on the books or face the wrath of the American people.

To say, as they appear to be saying, “it will have no effect” is pure BS. It’s because the fence WILL work that our government is trying so hard not to build it, or to weaken it significantly.

As for living near the fence and not wanting it, sorry, your personal desires do not override the need for national sovereignty and secure borders. We deserve to know who is entering our county, why they are coming here, and we have laws that regulate their entry that must be enforced.

    The US Constitution clearly says:

“It’s a duty of the federal government to protect all the states from invasion”

Clearly this isn’t being done. If, in the course of securing the borders, someone has to build a fence for their horse, or has in their view something they would rather not see…..the rest of us thank you for the huge sacrifice you are making.

Police said 18-year-old Josue Herrios-Coronilla drove his black Camaro on the wrong side of the road Wednesday and crashed into the yard of Bill McDonald, the owner of four dogs.

When police arrived, they found crushed bushes, a damaged fence, an inoperable car – and a fresh shoe print in a pile of dog feces.

Following an odoriferous trail down the street, Durham police Sgt. Dale Gunter noticed a white van driving toward him.

When he asked the passenger to step out, he noticed alcohol on the man’s breath and evidence all over his shoes.

Herrios-Coronilla was charged with driving while impaired and drinking underage.

No, I think we’ll just seize it under eminent domain. Then you can go live in Mexico since you like it so much.

and ponder the conservative position on property rights

You are about as “conservative” as Ted Kennedy. Or George Bush.

Send the Mexican Police and Military some GPS units
The limitation of GPS systems is that they show the location of the border. They don’t compel respect for it.

Isn’t that the truth. In Tom Tancredo’s book, “In Mortal Danger”, he relates the following: “Ironically, when the United States was considering actions to secure the border by building a security fence in 2005, (Vincente) Fox called the policy ’shameful’, adding, ‘Mexico is not going to bear, it is not going to permit, and will not allow a stupid thing like this wall’ “.

The reality is, Mexico doesn’t recognize the sovereignty of the U.S. border. Particularly when receipts of Mexican nationals to the motherland account for the second largest portion of their economy, behind only oil.

I believe that it will not only take the political WILL in Washington, but also a constant military presence on the border – in addition to a wall.

BTW – both Tancredo’s book and MM’s “Invasion” are must-reads on this topic!

    3. Struggling American families devestated by cheap invader that puts them out of work.

I guess it doesn’t matter because the politicians that have sold out to Mexico and corporate/criminal contributions could care less and have ensured their masters that the fence will not be built.

No barbarian invasions this time; but invasions nonetheless and the “sacking” of our resources.

I believe Fred Thompson would; I KNOW Duncan Hunter would. Fred’s affiliation with the CFR is not a comforting thought. As much as I want to support Huckabee (for the Fair Tax), his past actions and closeness to WalMart make it impossible. Since Tancredo dropped out my support will be going to Duncan Hunter. Of course he can’t win, unless people actually begin backing the candidate they know is the best and not listening to what MSM tells us. I for one will not be enslaved by the MSM.

early teens) are visiting. Just barely got there in time to keep one daughter
from being raped when she went out to get things out of car. Faced down a
group of mexicans that had her surrounded and had ripped her shirt off. No
help from authorities…but he, wife and son in law all had guns. Son had just
come into house with suitcases and gun. This is just one incident of that kind.
He is also tired of finding calves dead with a chunk cut out. As he has said,
that’s his beef. If they’re hungry…stay home. They tear down fences and
that allows livestock to wander. They kill livestock. They trash the entire
area with their garbage….not to mention feces. He has found bloody panties and diapers on his land. They killed one of his best dogs. He thinks
it was a coyote that brings people through that had been bitten by him.
This is just a small amount of what goes on. His neighbor has had mexican
police and mexican military on his land and so has a friend that lives over
3 miles from the border. Cousin says that better not happen on his property unless they are picking mexicans up to take BACK across the border.

While I agree that is idiotic (and insane – doing the same thing but expecting a different result), I question the validity of the poll. The only poll I actually trust is the one when people are in a voting booth. Online polls are always a 100% self selecting group and any phone poll is muddied by whole host of factors (ranging from what types of people are home to answer the phone, who has caller id and doesn’t bother to answer, what types of people even answer questions and or lie in their answers and many more). Polls about the future are journalists attempt to make news now when it’s not really news yet.
I suspect that in MM’s poll, the results are not really accurate reflections of a) her readership or b) her regular “commentorship”.

Hard to believe that a city on the Mexican border like the 91% Hispanic Brownsville would have an auto theft problem. Maybe they could learn from a city on the Canadian border, like Buffalo with its 7% Hispanic population, and twice the auto theft rate how it is done.
