Will Mike Huckabee wear orange, too?
So, the ACLU is busy mobilizing sympathy for Guantanamo Bay detainees. They’ve declared tomorrow–the sixth anniversary of the arrival of Gitmo detainees–a “Wear Orange” day in their continued bid to shut down the enemy combatant facility and show solidarity with suspected terrorists:
JANUARY 11, 2008, is the six-year anniversary of the first arrival of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay.
On January 11, we are calling on everyone opposed to torture and indefinite detention to WEAR ORANGE to symbolize their sadness and disgust with the national shame that is Guantánamo Bay.
Look for waterboard wannabes to stage mock torture theater around the country and the Arab government-funded anti-Gitmo legal machine to crank up the noise.
Here’s a reminder from a recent report by the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point of the threats the Gitmo detainees pose:
Based on 291 unclassified summaries of detainee records that contained evidence that the detainee directly participated in or supported hostile acts, the researchers found:
• 56 individuals admitted to fighting the U.S. or Coalition forces
• 104 individuals were found to have manned the front lines
• 9 individuals were found to have participated in a bombing operation, improvised explosives device (IED) attack or other explosives-involved operation
• 98 individuals were found to have directly participated in, or supported the planning or plotting of, a combat operation.
• 3 individuals were found to have purchased weapons for the furtherance of committing hostile acts.
• 21 individuals were found to have engaged in ‘other’ hostile activities.
As I pointed out last summer, the Bush administration unwisely presided over a mass release of Saudi Gitmos detainees that non-moonbat Democrats should have lambasted. But they’re all too busy lobbying to release the entire Gitmo population faster.
Will any Dems wear orange tomorrow?
How about Mike Huckabee, who shares the ACLU’s position (and al Qaeda’s, for that matter) on shutting down the facility because of its “symbolism?”
This would be another good issue to raise at tonight’s GOP debate in South Carolina.

Done! Do it every day, as it’s the color of my uniform.
OK. Step 1 is in place. Step 2 has the NRA sending out press releases announcing January 11 as Hunter’s Rights Day and asking everyone who supports the Second Amendment to dress in hunter’s orange.
Green? GREEN?
I would think that Red, White and Blue would be more appropriate, and would convey an intentional counter-message.
I have lots of green clothing, but I don’t usually wear my RW&B shirt everyday.
Alternative – an American flag T-Shirt, or a T-Shirt with a “Support the troops” message.
The ACLU is a cancer that has spread in this country to the point we are terminally ill. It is the weapon of choice for homosexuals, socialists, atheists, and many other groups that demand the American people to bend to their will. When everyone has finally handed over their rights as citizens of this country in order to ensure the newly create special rights of the minority, then the ACLU will have completed it’s only goal.
No. I want to see the Air Force and Navy wearing green.
Dang! Now I can’t wear my Tennessee Volunteers sweatshirt today. Wouldn’t want to be mistaken as a liberal.
I agree with Timothy, green doesn’t make a clear statement. Red, white, and blue sounds good. Or maybe I’ll make an orange shirt with a big ol’ Support the Troops message on it.
fox will make sure that Huckster does not get any questions that will require more than a bumper sicker response. they have been the Huckster pushers since late November.
when the hucksters poll numbers started to rise, they had him on every 15 minutes live or recorded. did they do the same when Romney’s polls rose, heck no. it was guiliani, guiliani and thompson. in that order. if i had the ability to go back and check, i would.
no, they like the huckster (cause he is liberal). heard fred talking up mccain last night, wanted to puke. Who has the majority of the delegates? what did they say, about the holder of the majority of the delegats? he can’t win this.. who do they think does? McCain or Huckster.. I turned off Brit Hume. Never have done that one before. and guess what Guiliani’s chances are now slim according to the ‘all stars’ .. say What? their dream candidate is not a shoe in?
don’t expect anything but hard core towards romney to defend his what has been said, but not his actual record. expect huck the schmuck to never have his record mentioned and be allowed one laugh liners or bumper sticker moments. john mccain (but i am a pow)talk tough on war but not on his record.
bets? this will be a ‘debate to finally get that morman out of the race’ not let’s get down to see who the real conservative is by their record.
I do agree with that.
I hope Fred will use Huckabee’s Gitmo stance against him to take him down a notch or two. It’s about time to take the gloves off, Fred!
Maybe the detainees could live at Mike’s house house.
During last weeks debate, Fred Thompson had to explain to the Huckster WHY the U.S. keeps the prisoners at Gitmo.
The Huckster just sat there with a stupid look on his face.
how many of the ones that have been released were re-captured fighting our troops again? Bring on the firing squad.
I wonder if there will be Guantanamo hunger strikes…where participants will consume twice their standard caloric intake and add three inches to their waistlines.
As an artist, I wish to remind everyone that blue is the opposite of orange. Not green.
And, besides, I was going to save orange for the hunter’s rights day. Love that one, and I’ll be doing it.
Leave Gitmo open for the duration of the war, IMHO. And, slowly take away one luxury after the other, so the damm place is not so attractive to the terrorists anymore.
He ‘who must not become the next POTUS’ doesn’t cite any reasons for closing Gitmo, other than how the rest of the world views Gitmo. Well, why didn’t you just say so. Since two-bit dictators don’t like the fact that we have nuclear weapons, why don’t we just give ours to them. That way we’ll save face and they’ll be happy.
The ACLU – who needs them.
To the American Communist Lawyers Union, oops, I mean the Anti Christian Lawyers Union, all I have to say is, BOO FREAKIN’ HOO!
To Mike Huckabee, who gives a rat’s patootie what the world thinks about Gitmo!? As you said yourself, closing Gitmo would only mean moving the prisoners someplace else. The French, ACLU, Code Stink, et al, would only start complaining about that place then.
Fred doesn’t just play a lawyer on TV, he is a lawyer.
I thought that green is the color of the “Religion of Piece(s)”. If that is so, why would you want to wear green. I agree with the Red White and Blue idea because no one will be able to mistake those colors for any kind of support for the ROP or any of their sympathizers.
The only reason Guantanamo has become a ’symbol’ is because our politicians are weak. If America didn’t have a problem with it, the rest of the world wouldn’t have a problem with it.
WE SHOULD NOT CARE WHAT THE WORLD THINKS. They are better off there than dead. If we close Guantanamo, my response would be our ROE should change to TAKE NO PRISONERS. No worry about waterboarding or torture or Guantanamo generating ‘ill will’ toward America, just dead would be prisoners.
Would that be better ACLU and Huck?
Hmm – okay.
How about Camo? Very distinctive, and it would also send a powerful counter-message.
And it would fulfill the green requirement.
Being a Buddhist, the orange thing bothers me. Using orange, the ACLU gets involuntary ‘buddhist monk’ support
Maybe I should take a bunch of American flags to the temple tomorrow…
might as well don the Union Jack on July 4th
Dang. Sorry, ACLU. I forgot to check my calendar. Tomorrow is Nepalese Unity Day and I am booked.
Gimme a call and we can reschedule. Let’s do lunch.
And on Folsom Street they’ll symbolize their sadness and disgust by donning hoods and attaching battery cable clamps to their genitalia…just like they do every other day.
ABO
Anything
But
Orange
I do have to agree with them on one thing. Six years is way too long for that facility to be housing those detainees. They should all have been tried and shot by now.
Just my opinion. I could be wrong.
uhangtight I agree.
Huckabee is never boxed in on his record. The liberal MSM loves him because they think any Dem can beat him, plus he’s a “twofer”. They get to beat him up for being a clown, and they get to beat him up for being a Christian (not the same thing) so they get twice the bang for their buck. Duncan Hunter – exclude him for sure – built a fence, crime went down, legal Hispanics love him, tough on terror, actual combat veteran, his son is a combat veteran, interested in other economic issues – oh, I guess none of that plays on TV. Excuse me I have to break into this broadcast, we have a chopper following Britney to see if she’s wearing underwear – Shep?….
Shep – “I’m just standing here leering at Janice Dean ‘The Weather Machine’, is there actual news going on?”
You know, there is a certain radio talk show host that has developed a line of Gitmo gear that is also colored orange…could make for a great counter-protest.
He’s nailed the problem with Gitmo perfectly… but then most of the far righters here don’t really care what the rest of the World thinks of America… just wrap your eyes and ears with the red, white and blue….
So – we close Gitmo, a secure location where we’re keeping known and/or suspected enemy combatants while our country is at war – because of the way it ‘looks’ to others….
But we support and keep running things like Folsom Street Fair and idiotic reality shows on TV with no concern about how ridiculous it makes us look as a country….
Makes sense.
Glad the Broncos aren’t playing.
OK, I’ll wear green.
.
Any particular shade?
I’ll care what the rest of the world thinks about America just as soon as the rest of the world starts carrying one fraction of the burden of keeping the peace, and protecting the weak that America has shouldered for the last 100 years.
In which institutions do we put our trust:
West Point OR/
The ACLU and CAIR?
I’ve chosen! WEST POINT
I think this shirt might work. Who needs a color? Just give ‘em the message.
The problem with his statement, and yours, Sausage, is that the ‘image’ is manufactured by the far-left and the media.
The facility operations are in line with civil rights and conditions exceed those given to US criminal prisoners.
However, the anti-Gitmo forces have succeeded in portraying our detention of these dangerous people as ‘bad’.
They wish to treat them as criminals, not as war-time enemies. That is not logical or beneficial.
If these left-leaning advocates would apply the same ‘doesn’t make you look good’ logic to other countries – what do you think they would say about Iran, Palestine, Pakistan, and other Nations who do what’s best for themselves, the rest of the world be-damned?
OK, sausage, you are so right on this time, Bro!!
We don’t give a hoot in hell what the rest of the stinking, putrid, leftwing world thinks!!!
I’m proud to wrap myself in the Red White and Blue!!
Now, you run along and get your cycle and hammer, orange, che shirt for your big day tomorrow!
As a side note – it’s playoff’s week – do me a favor, if you wear green – make it this shirt.
Fear not, radio relay. There is an upside to liberals..
Well said.
Like the rest of the world knows jack when it comes to appearances. Sheesh.
But who do they call when they need something? Money, protection, etc…
.
As for the green…I’m Irish and the wearin’ of the green could cause some drinkin’ to done.
just sayin’.
I’ve got Irish in me too, Shooter. But, I can do the drinkin’ regardless of the color of my clothes.
suasage is from Jolly Old England – lucky he still speaks English and not German. One for the Red White and Blue. Now run along and enjoy the freedoms we’ve given you…
Question is: will any Dems not wear orange tomorrow? That would be somewhat telling, perhaps.
Might I suggest to the ACLU that instead of orange, supporters of closing Gitmo wear PINK! Much more appropos, I think…
I really wonder what else Huckabee thinks should be done as an act of symbolism. Open borders as an act of symbolism to the world?
How about the color of vomit?
Tomorrow and every Friday wear RED!. I do.
Bill, of Casa d’Ice in North Versailles, PA who does signs you may have seen on the internet has started “red Fridays”- to wear red every Friday until the troops come home and show our support.
That’s what my friends and I plan to do. Orange=bad but Red=good.
BARRY F,
Friend of Bill’s myself…about a decade. I just wanted to make the wearin’ of the green joke.
You?
Thats the first I’ve heard of the Red on Fridays for the troops. Now if I go red and green…look like Christmas all over again.
Too late to change colors all around, someone started with GREEN and I’ll follow ’suit’.
I’ll have to get out my “Club Gitmo” T-shirt I got from El Rushbo.
I’m not going to defend Mr. Huckabee’s comments on Gitmo because they do smack of pandering to the audience. He does need to clarify his position if he can.
What I’ll say is this. Gitmo is a cancer, both in what it holds and in its effect on our dealings with the rest of the world. We need to do be more transparent on who we’re holding and why, and we need to make clear efforts to resolve the status of the detainees.
It’s all well and good to say that “symbolism” doesn’t matter, but not caring at all what the rest of the world thinks is a rather myopic way to base foreign policy.
I’ve been wearing red on Friday’s for the troops for about a year now. So I’ll stick with that (since my son is one of them).
I think we should close gitmo. But instead of sending them to Leavenworth (as some have suggested) we should dress them in a “Jesus Rocks/Mohammed Sucks” Tee shirt and drop them off in some tolerant muslim city like maybe Gaza or Lahore Pakiland.
See what the world thinks of us then.
Just a jest that my mood to drink occurs regardless of my fashion, Shooter. Nothing else. Cheers!
If we close Gitmo, then I suggest we just put the prisoners on an old, unused off-shore oil drilling platform. Position a couple of Coast Guard ships there to prevent them from escaping.
See what the French, ACLU, Code Stink, and everyone else thinks of that.
#39 Aloha Guy
Don’t be too hard on the Brits, as they have been stalwart allies in the war on terror, as well as many of the other conflicts in the last 2 centuries.
I am reminded of a conversation that I had with a Captain, Royal Navy, back at the Naval War College, some 17 years ago. He pointed out that we Americans didn’t get into the First World War until the overtime period, nor did we enter the Second World War until the second half. I’m not saying I agreed with him, but you might want to check out the Battle of the Somme, in the summer of 1916, in which the Brits suffered about 57,400 casualties on the first day alone.
But please don’t get the idea that I’m supporting sausage here. You can beat him up as much as you want.
When you lose the initiative, others take it. Had we immediately initiated military tribunals at Gitmo, and hung a few of the bad guys, we would not be subject to this idiocy of giving these terrorist barbarians the civil rights of Americans. Not only that, but we would probably have killed Osama by now because these folks, given a choice of life or death would almost certainly have caved to the pressure. It is one thing to take your own life at your own timing, and it is quite another to have it end ignominiously at the end of someone else’s rope. Saddam Hussein is a perfect example as he cried before he was hung.
You know, the facts have never got in the way of their opinions.
The answer is “yes”
Yes, there IS a word that rhymes with “orange”
I’m naming it “Porange”…A mixture of pink and orange…You can wear it, and kill two birds with one stone.
The only downside is, it smells like,…well um,…you get the idea.
The Air Force already does except for when they are in dress uniform. There are quickly changing over to the new Army style camouflage pattern, which is really screwing with my Air Force trained mind. I will continue to wear red on Friday as I always do to show my support for our troops.
No problem JS, I actually do think highly of the Brits.
This is a great summary of campaign ‘08.
Check it out and see if you agree:
http://www.theonion.com/content/video/poll_bullshit_is_most_important
My new green sweater will look very nice.
Actually, all of us military families in AZ have a tradition of wearing red on fridays to show solidarity with the soldiers. I don’t know who started it, but all the blue star moms do it and got me hooked (my brother’s in Afghanistan right now, doing things we’re not allowed to know about).
Hooah!
Question, two part?
1. What color is Math?
2. How are questions like these supposed to prepare educated people to take on the challenges of the future?
The real question, how are you going to our broken education system?
BTW: We wear blue on Fridays to show support for the troops. Not sure where the other colors come in?
Sorry, I put my silly campaign post, (58) in the wrong thread……I blame that on being old.
But if you read it, it is funny.
I’d move it, but I don’t think that’s possible.
radio relay said:
Sickle.
Cycles are what these guys use.
Brilliant thought: A new color for crayola….”Liberal Orange”?
I’d love to jrl. I’m pulling for the Packers to face my Patriots in the Super Bowl. I think it would be a great game with Farve trying to be guy that stops the Pats from going 19-0. (Not hoping he succeeds mind you.)
Or Favre for that matter.
Stupid too fast typing!
We can only hope that the Left is so dumb as to loudly and publicly support the release of all the Gitmo prisoners. I hope Hillary makes it a plank in the Democratic platform. Then the families of the victims of Sep 11 can publicly ask the Democrats why they want to spring Mohamed al Khatani from Gitmo, who was turned back from entering the US while Mohammed Atta waited at the airport to pick him up to be the 20th skyjacker.
Wearing Camouflage would make a bigger statement– I support the military AND Gitmo. Not a problem for me, that is my business suit.
Of course we could really confuse them and wear orange camouflage.
Maybe that could mean ” Yeah, go ahead and release them. I could use some target practice and I prefer to stalk my prey.”
Hmmm, orange might be OK only if it is this orange – The Club G’itmo T-Shirt – Your Tropical Retreat from the Stress of Jihad (or pick another with your favorite Rush Gitmo slogan!)
I have an idea-send all of the members of the ACLU to Gitmo. With the all-powerful Bush,Cheney,Rove administration,I’m sure there could be some charges drummed up.
I’m wearing orange.
But its the Rush Limbaugh “Club Gitmo” T-Shirt my brother sent me.
Hah!
“Liberal Orange” crayon? Brilliant! Jumpsuit orange with streaks of yellow…
“Liberal Orange” cannot be a crayon. It can only be a water color because it runs.
We cannot force those poor men from the safety and benefits of Gitmo- the free medical and dental care, the extremely careful way in which the guards avoid offending them, and especially the fact that so many who have been released have acciently found themselves on the wrong side of a firefight back in Iraq! Why, if we turn them out, they might also die by accidently stepping in front of an American bullet- can’t have that now, can we?
Now, imagine if all of the prisoners at Gitmo were men like Eric Rudolph, Terry Nichols, or the late Timothy McVeigh. Oh, even better – a militant group responsible for the systematic bombing of abortion clinics and gay neighborhoods; think the ACLU would be drumming up sympathy for them as well?
I am wearing green today.
Wear deep green today. I am. It’s the opposite of orange.
Oops, zorro beat me to it, by many hours, no less.
