Sunday morning meditation
Read “The Race for the American Mind” by Selywn Duke. It’s a manifesto for the conservative blogosphere. Here’s the intro:
Last year’s scamnesty bill had widespread support among the powers-that-be, with the president, the Democrat majority and mainstream media all singing its praises. Yet it went down to defeat, slain by a new-media coalition of talk radio and blogosphere warriors. Working tirelessly to expose the truth and rally the grassroots, they became a David who slew a Goliath.
Forty-three years ago it was a different world. Ted Kennedy had co-authored the “Immigration Reform Act of 1965,” which created a situation wherein 85 percent of our immigrants hail from the Third World and Asia. He took to the Senate floor, claimed his brainchild wouldn’t change the demographic composition of the nation and passed the culture-rending bill under the cover of darkness.
This darkness was not absence of light but that of truth; it was a media blackout. With no Internet and little talk radio, mainstream journalists had a monopoly over the hearts and minds of America. And they knew best. The little people didn’t have to worry their pretty little heads about actions that would forever alter the face of the nation.
This is why the old media fears the new one. The latter watches the watchers, polices the police. It has cut into the Rathersphere’s market, causing a diminution of circulation, viewership and - this is what really gets their collars up — power. They can no longer propagandize with Tass-like impunity, for the e-hills have eyes.
Yet this is no time for a victory dance. The new media is under attack, as the left aims to silence dissent before it grows strong enough to block the thought police’s coup de grace. This is the race for the American mind.

Exactly right. It’s a battle and the left is fighting to control what we see and hear. The powerful MSM has had the ability to spew their propaganda for a long time, but in the end I believe they will lose. The new media has woken up a sleeping nation who won’t give up their new road to the truth. I am truly grateful to Michelle and those like her that work hard to keep us informed.

Liberalism ALWAYS creates the EXACT OPPOSITE of its stated intent.
Indeed, if not for the fawning lame stream media’s support, if the roles had been changed and the blogosphere were around in 65, Kennedy’s sorry arse would have been recalled, jailed or both long ago.
And how have the likes of Robert Byrd, Ted Stevens, Chuck Schumer, Anthony Wiener, Mike Fisher, Bob Wexler et al because of a structured oozing monolithe of mass media. Like a butcher they trim off all the meat and serve up 100% fat-laden content guaranteed to clog the thinking path of all their customers.
With the clogged thinking they convince people that conservatism and liberalism are each very strict orthodoxies. We are served up candidates and are told who’s more liberal or conservative, a mostly subjective ruling from on-high. And here, in this forum, we see how each of us has chosen our favorites based on who looks and sounds good. Actually, it’s not much different from buying a slab of meat from the grocer except our choices in politics can mean electing a meat-head and not someone who can “cut” our over-bloated and constitutionally wayward government.
It’s time to chuck the media labels and start doing some organic research. The information available from the oozing butcher shops has been mishandled and is mostly rotten or stale. If you fresh ideas and opportunities, then you gotta dig for the out-of-the-way source of product that will make you happy and can make a difference for everybody.
My assessment breaks down as follows: Romney-Just more of the same bureaucracy, elitism and big business corporate-focus. Fred-Act 1, exit stage left. McCain-fiery rhetoric, same RINO results. Rudy-9/11,9/11,9/11,9/11 “I was there” zzzzzzzz.
The blogoshpere is the unclogosphere for our thinking.
The New Media are indeed gaining power, but so far, their power is limited mostly to discovering and countering outright falsehoods (Rathergate, etc.). But the Old Media are still extremely powerful and able to ply their agendas with diabolical cleverness, specifically by creating a “conventional wisdom effect,” mainly through endless repetition.
Hence, the Iraq war is “going badly,” if not “lost.” John McCain is a “maverick,” rather than a Democrat in Republican clothing. Obama is a “movement,” not just an inexperienced liberal candidate.
These repeated characterization do indeed work. That’s why they do it.

Just imagine what might have happened if the Giants of the Blogosphere had actively supported Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean as well. They might not be in prison — where they have been for over a year — at the whim of a small-minded, vengeful, open-borders president and his cronies.
BTW — Talk radio is hardly “new media.” The format has been around for decades.

That is what makes the internet such a powerful tool. While the MSM is filling up it’s so called news shows with stories about Brittany Spears, Anna Nichol Smith, Missing housewives and such: those of us who are not sheep can find the stories that the MSM don’t want us to hear.
The media completly blaked out the news that Senior Clinton adviser Sydney Blumenthal was arrested for agrevated DWI after being pulled over going 70mph in a 30 mph zone in N.H. the day Before the Primary. He failed the field sobriety test then refused to take the breath test.
The MSM also has not reported that the Clinton campaign is sueing the state of NEVADA in order to block that state from holding it’s caucuses in hotel/casinos even though these are the largest sites and the easiest places for the large number of hospitality workers, the biggest employer in the state. The reason the clintons are sueing is that Obama has the support of the Culinary & Hospitality Workers Union. If the shoe was on the other foot do you think she would be sueing?
The MSM Should be informing Americans on the details of various Bills being considered in congress but they don’t.
Instead they try to tell us that this candidate will have to drop out if they don’t win a particular state Primary. Or they simply don’t cover them at all.

Watching Fox News Sunday just now, not one time did the panel mention immigration. That is important for while the blogosphere led the fight against amnesty, the old media is, by silence, giving John McCain a pass on McCain-Kennedy (the old media is still the big dog).
Yet who can blame them when all of his opponents did exactly the same thing Thursday night. While I’m for Fred Thompson, it was foolish of him to not mention McCain-Kennedy and to destroy John McCain’s credibility when the latter says “he has heard the American people” on the issue. The polls in South Carolina showed it was a top issue there.
If Thompson does not win or at least finish a strong second in S.C., his chances of winning the nomination are zero, the last credible border security candidate is out, and he has no one to blame but himself.
Hey, I can always move to Mexico where at least they take preventing illegal immigration seriously. (Sarcasm button now being turned to off).
Ya Know- When I Grew Up, we watched the news as a family, and it was believed to be the absolute truth. Now I don’t believe one word that comes out of any of the msm. Sad that so many people are led around by there collective noses and take the msm words as gospel.

The far left democrap victory with the passage of “hate speech” laws was a major loss in the war to preserve our Constitution. But I have faith in our Republic. And with blogosphere warriors like Michelle, Bryan, Allah and hundreds of others I know that Freedom will win the final victory.
Please remember that McCain is still committed to amnesty - don’t believe his squirming statements.
He was able to weasel out of some of this by enlisting the Texas Governor; Perry and the traitor to Texas: Hutchison to gut the fence.
I would hope that someday we will be able to understand the flow of money that has prompted these folks to betray the US and place folks in risk of death, rape and theft each day.

You know Newsmaxs came out with an article, that stated Talk Radio is over. Then they had alot of mis information about Imus in the article. Imus has only been back since Dec 3rd and he is already ranked number 22 among talkers, he just picked up two more Maine radio stations.
I see the glass half full so this article’s gloom and doom, reminds me of a Ayn Rand qoute: “The question isn’t who is going to let me, the question is who is going to stop me”
“I get knocked down but I get up Again”. The American spirit isn’t dead, who does Newsmaxs think, jammed the Senate switcboard last summer?
To paraphrase Admiral Yammato when he learned that the attack on Pearl Harbor happened after the delivery of the ultimatum: “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”
That kind of goes hand in hand with the relationship between the MSM and the bloggers. The MSM hate that the internet awakened and inspired the average person to start holding them accountable for their numerous “Pearl Harbors” they’ve tried to inflict upon the public.

Good point. These people get on tv, spew whatever they want and are seldom held accountable as to whether or not what they speak is the truth. And far too many people accept it as such. Just because you are on tv doesn’t make you an expert or honest.
The internet has provided a place for people to check up on what is said in the media. I am optimistic that truth will out and those that have lied to the public time and time again, will be discredited and then ignored.

I really don’t understand the feelings of many that if you don’t win in the first few primaries, none of the other primaries will make a difference. It’s like only 3 or 4 primaries count and the rest are a waste of time. I think that’s foolish thinking.
I am hopeful that Fred is going to surprise alot of people. He is the only true conservative up there, IMO. If he keeps speaking out as forcefully as he did at that last debate, he stands more than a good chance of taking it all.
And the sooner we get rid of Huckabee the better. He’s such a slime.

MM is usually pretty good except when it comes to Fred, so thats why I come here.
The issue for Fred is he continues to face headwinds from the net form peopel that shoudl be supporting and promoting him - or at least reporting him without negative spin. People like Michelle. I note that she still has yet apologize and retract her spewing of the Politico hit piece (accompanyied by here negative spin comments). And the negative comments and spin continue even to the obvious huge win in the debates. MM and AP seem to constantly spin things negatively when it comes to Fred. They apparently find it easier to bash and obfuscate than to let go of whatever personal bias and animus they hold against Thompson (which I gather based on the negative tone and selection of their posts about Thompson). I guess admitting and overcoming their tacit bias and telling the unvarnished truth without interjecting their venom and negative comments is too hard when it comes to Fred.
So how can we conservatives expect the MSM to play it straight when people like MM merchadised the fabricated hit pieces for them, complete with accompanying biased negative comments that furthered them? If one of the best clarion voices against illegals (etc) on the web is usually throwing spin/obfuscation with negative comments when it comes to the only fully conservative candidate running, how do we expect the MSM to do any better?
We are conservatives, we need to set the example. And the example MM is giving is that its OK to slur Thompson nearly every time you mention him.
I’m not letting the MSM off the hook, but MM and the right-o-sphere are not blameless here either.
If we end up with Romney (fake), Guiliani (liberal), or (God forbid) Huckabee (idiot) or McCain (nuf said), its should be laid at the door of those who call themselves conservative yet refused to squarely back the real conservatives in the race - Hunter and Thompson. And that means I’m looking right at you Michelle and Allah, amongst others (NRO, etc).

twiggman #18 I too remember back in the 60s and 70s sitting around the television watching the news and the entire family taking it as gospel. Thank God the new media has exposed most of the propaganda we were fed back then, but unfortunately it is too late to do anything about that except learn from being suckered by the MSM.

I believe the new media and talk radio are the only bastions of conservative truth we will see in our life time. Many of us are finding the alternative media and find it is more credible and reliable then the MSM to include Fox News. Go over to “American Thinker” and read the other article about Rudy. (Unless you might think it was hate speech). For all who call themselves Republicans, RINOS, conservative independents or what ever consider this. The battle will truly be at the SCOTUS. From gun rights to free speech,abortion,immigration,enemy combatant rights,voter rights,property rights et al. With the make-up of the court such as it is, we need a candidate that can win and get to the W.H. And one that has not hindered these rights at a congressional level, because this should indicate what he would do in nominating any replacement. For example, McCains attack on free speech(McCain Feingold)with support from Fred, tells me he could nominate a justice that had liberal views on the 1st. And could make immediate appointments to the FCC that would change the landscape of talk radio over night. This is just one example. First:We need a winner.
Second:We need someone who will not tilt the balance of the SCOTUS to liberals for the next 20 to 30 years.
The MSM has been faltering. Now they are touting candidates that on the internet or radio talk shows are not the ones that have the overwhelming support.
Could it be that they are out to prove that bloggers, internet junkies, and radio talk pundits and fans that they are not are powerful as they think?
The MSM is fighting for their relevance. To them this campaigning season is about more than just the candidates. Its about themselves.

Thank’s Boomer but I can’t take all of the credit. After reading this paper my wife said to my daughter “You really should’nt let your Dad brainwash you” and hell hath no fury like a 14 year old opinionated girl she told my wife “I have my own mind and my own opinion’s and I’m not going to let anyone brainwash me” She watches the local new’s and come’s in and watche’s the national new’s with me Britt Hume, and she has watched Chris Mathew’s, O’rielly, Tucker, Anderson Cooper and has even sat and listened to Rush Limbaugh. She has watched all of these at some point with me, I’m a natorius channel flipper so my wife send’s me to my bedroom to watch my program’s and my daughter will come in and watch with me she has been doing this since she was about 5 years old, I say nothing to her I let her form her own opinion’s and believe me she has her own opinion’s. She has come home from school and told me which one of her teacher’s are liberal’s and which ones are conservitives, it’s actually kind of funny, I don’t think anyone’s going to pull the wool over her eye’s. I also call her the weather girl cause if you want to know what the weather is going to be she can tell you.
I believe she is right those that would continually hack away at our First Amendment right’s should be feared and if this continues with no resistance from those who are either not willing to fight or just complacent, our First Amendment right’s will be stripped away from us. IMO if this happen’s the rest of the Bill of Right will fall like a like a house of cards.
The problem is that ‘amnesty’ has been badly misused in this debate. Just last night on TV news Hillary and McCain were shown with the exact same stance, when the political story talked about (in the reporter’s words) “the most important issue this year - immigration.” Both of them are correct when they say that their plan is not amnesty, because there is a small fine involved. It is WORSE - it is a REWARD for illegal behavior. Until opponents of “amnesty” call it what it is - REWARDS - we will never frame this debate so that the majority of Americans can understand it.
The dictionary defines ‘amnesty’ as forgiveness for past misdeeds; it does not include rewarding law-breakeres with their ill-gotten goods. Would a judge award stolen property to a convicted robber, even if he gave him “amnesty” - no jail and no fine? Of course not, so why should we reward illegal aliens with what they came here to steal in the first place - residency in our country?
McCain’s Z visa would have done just that - REWARD illegals with permanent residency as long as DHS couldn’t prove any felonies within a generous (SARC!) 24 hour period. Imagine - McCain, et al, would allow DHS only 1 day to process up to 20 million applications - sounds good to me! Mccain has not learned his lesson - now he wants to grant the REWARD iof a Z visa after enforcement. Why offer any reward?
Why not use the state model - enforcement only, which is what the vast majority of Republicans and Democrats want? Here is the only poll that offered all 3 choices - something that Bush, McCain, and all other sympathizers will not offer in their “You can’t deport 12 million, THEREFORE we have to give them citizenship” crapola.
Here is evidence that attrition by enforcement is working in every state where laws have been passed.

This lengthy series of media observations by Selywn Duke should be required reading for every American. As many of us have been saying for years, yes, we in this country have many kinds and degrees of enemies, but the worst is our corrupt, biased - and prejudiced, let’s not forget that word - media, because all those other evils cannot be squarely fought as long as the facts of the world are siphoned through their corrupt prism.
Uhhh, I hear Fred. I read the piece about a hair dresser who was going back to Mexico because all her clients were doing so… Her job was created by the need to service other illegals… no illegals, no need to service them.
Now about the lady who sells pastilles from a stolen shopping cart out side my local super market… guess that job may not come back either.

I see the governor of Maryland wants to issue a 2-tier drivers’ license, so illegal aliens (undocumented workers in Casa Maryland) have ID and can drive cars. They keep chipping away at enforcing immigration laws with the hope that some day, the democrats can hang a sign at the border, “Welcome Everyone!” Well, it sure would free a lot of homeland security money for them to use in supporting more Americans…if there are any real Americans left.

Fred Thompson brilliantly nailed Huckabee as conservative only socially and a lib on all else. Yet the debate’s TV audience was huge and he missed his chance to remind SC primary voters that he has always been for border security first and against amnesty, “unlike Ted Kennedy .. er.. I mean John McCain.” He would have done that less clumsily; I just wish he had.
I understand, and agree. IMO he should have gutted mccain like he did huckster, but I don’t believe he will.
The reason being, not that I’m privy to Thompson’s private thoughts or strategy, but..
I really can’t see that it is necessary to to hammer mccain, on anything.
He will never be the nominee, but he will almost certainly be in the senate. Who ever the president is will have to deal with mccain, at least until 2010.
Thompson will let the others chew on mccain, while he gets his positive message to the voters and kicks Huck/Robme butt along the way.

I was quite moved by Mr. Levant’s opening statement. He came right out and brought the fight to the HRC.
My take is that the HRC, just like our own ACLU, has moved away from the idea of protecting people’s liberty and into protecting certain people from things they do not wish to see or hear.

There is one more trick the liberals have that wasn’t mentioned in the piece; if there is so much as one item in a website’s WHOIS info that is not 100% accurate, they will petition ICANN to require all of the Domain Name Servers to drop the routing to that site. How do I know that? They did just that to Free Republic a couple years ago.

Yet, it’s not enough to be just a part of the new media. The new media must use their power to confront, chastise, and admonish the very people, agencies, religions, etc that are causing the division and strife in America.
It is imperative that with each article written in the new media that the article include names, addresses (email & snail mail), website addresses, and telephone numbers of the people who need to be contacted about that particular subject. Display them boldly. Then, we must act boldly by contacting the offending person, party, religion, etc to make certain that they understand “we the people” are not only going to take them to task for their error but will indeed not go away until they have changed the error of their way.
Don’t just tell us the problem.
Give us the means with which to address the problem.
By the way, that’s one of the reasons I like anything Michelle Malkin writes. She identifies the problem and then gives the reader a means in which to participate in the solution.
Why would anyone vote for John McCain? (Aside from Illegals or hispanics ) I will NEVER EVER forget his betrayal of this country. Yet I read he is surging in the polls….I just don’t get it!!!

I agree, and history will show that much of what GW tried to do would have been wonderfully beneficial - but the likes of McCain working with Toady Chappaqquiddick Kennedy and Hanoi John to UNDERMINE G.W. have had a horrendous detrimental effect for AMERICA and thus the world, in general.

Funny enough, our preacher spoke this very morning on the back story of David & Goliath.
Recall that it wasn’t enough for David to fell Goliath. To ensure that he would never come back to pester the Israelis, David cut his head off.
The preacher then spoke on how all too often, when we mobilize to stop a clear & immediate danger, we are content to prematurely switch gears and move on, only to have to deal with the problem on an order of magnitude. To ensure that these “goliaths” stay vanquished, we have to decapitate them.
In conclusion, preacher noted how ironic that Papa Bush had his foot on Saddam’s neck, but let him get back up. By doing so, he punted it upon the next generation Bush to decapitate him at greater cost. Moral of the story, don’t let up until the problem is dead, dead, DEAD!
With regards to McCain & Huck, we need to stay the course and make sure they never haunt us again. To wit, we stopped McCain-Kennedy’s Shamnesty, but we haven’t lopped the heads behind the act. Who’s fault is that? We-The-Gullible-People. Some would now buy McCain’s song & dance that he “heard” the people. Rest assured, if we let him get the WH, it will be amnesty for all!

This contest is not about who wins the most States! It is about who wins the most delegates. If Hunter gained only 100 delegates at the end, it counts for something as the national plank is erected, because it would be 100 less delegates that Huckster or McCain could claim as a mandate for their bill of goods.

I see New Jersey has joined the “Peoples Republic of Maryland” in denying their voters the chance to vote for President via the Electoral College. All Electors will be decided by the national vote, not the state vote. Well, you all voted those people into office…enjoy!! Your states will no longer carry any weight.
