Hey, Ronulans: Leave Jennifer Call alone!
Ron Paul followers have been bullying the local New Hampshire election official who made an honest mistake while tabulating primary votes last week. Now, she’s fighting back. Via the Concord Monitor:
Jennifer Call’s eyes searched the office for nothing in particular. Her arms waved and her fear spilled out.
“This is where I grew up,” Sutton’s town clerk said yesterday. “This is my hometown, this is where my family is, and all of sudden, my name is being splashed across the internet as this horrible person. And the frightening part is, I don’t know these people and they don’t know me.”
Call wants the nationwide army of boisterous Ron Paul supporters, believers in more conspiracy theories than Oliver Stone, to know that she’s committed no crime.
Not treason, as the dozens of phone callers screamed. Not fraud, as the dozens of e-mails charged. Nothing.
Human error, by someone unknown, caused Call’s office to claim Paul received zero votes from the town during Tuesday’s first-in-the-nation primary.
Paul actually got a whopping 31 votes.
Out of 920 cast.
Launch an investigation. Alert the media.
The mistake was corrected early the next morning, but that hardly mattered. The Paul machine, upon reading the number in print, quickly went into counteroffensive mode.
Here’s a taste of the Paulmania directed at Call. Her conclusion:
“Most of the these people are not rational,” Call said.

A few weeks back, I called RP a “kook.” Now that he told Hannity that anyone who disagrees with his (RP’s) foreign policy simply doesn’t understand the Constitution, I now call him a “Pompous Kook”!
His Paul-istas simply echo that pomposity and kookiness.
I can see why the Ronulans were so upset. We’re talking about 31 whole votes for which he didn’t get credit.

The funny thing is the utter lack lack of common sense on the part of the Ronulans. Ok Paulbots, take a deep breath, count to ten and then listen to this: If the clerk had wanted to intentionally skew the vote totals, she sure as hell wouldn’t have made it zero, Einsteins. Looking at 31 votes and trying to cheat, she would have shaved SOME of them, not ALL of them because obviously the people in her small small town that voted for Pa Kettle would obviously notice a ZERO on the vote totals. Sheesh

If Ron Paul Hubbard won’t use the Presidency effectively, why does he want it?
Did the RP supporters overreact? Obviously. But let’s not forget that these people were already fired up over his being left out of the FoxNews NH debate. Given that Paulism is now a religion, it’s not surprising that they thought “their man” was getting a raw deal.
I think Paul and his minions have a legitimate reason to be upset that he was left out of the NH debate on Fox. He did tie Thompson in the caucus in Iowa and beat Giuliani, both of whom were in the debate.
But, even the Ron Paul kooks can’t logically justify bad behavior with more bad behavior. I have to correct my children on this type of thing. We shouldn’t have to do it with adults.

I also think there are an equal number of Rawmoneyulans out there…the soft bigotry of anyone not singing the popular tune whether in church or in the saloon.
And let’s not forget that for all the prognostications of electability and primary wins, there’s still a whole lot of time until the voters purge their sins.
Everyone perceives their own reality. The differences have existed for quite some time. The idea that we’re somehow not the same politically, is viewed as a mortal crime.
Thank goodness NH voters (except for those 31 lost souls) showed some sense rather than encourage these kooks.

Indeed, Paul’s record stands as a solid testament to his conviction and principle, something the other blow hards can’t point to.
The hubris of the majority one held the world to be flat. Now, so it seems, that same hubris calls names and rebukes a man and his supporters who hold the constitution as an immutable standard, and once again flatten the land to suit their views. Wisdom however is born of respect and seeking understanding, virtues clearly lacking about this man and in this forum.
The old saying, “It takes one to know one” explains the reaction in this case. A bunch of kooks supporting the chief Kook at all costs.
Since when did adhering to the Constitution, as Paul does, make one a “kook?”
In reality, Congress are the real kooks.

The Ron Paul Libertarian view of the constitution didn’t last much beyond the “Whiskey Rebellion” and its aftermath. The Civil War inalterably changed the way Americans viewed governmental power. The final nail in the coffin of the Libertarian Constitution was FDR’s extremely broad interpretation of the interstate commerce clause during the Depression.
Don Ron Quixote may tilt at the windmill all he wants, but he is many, many decades too late to change the course of history.

#23 “Burn the ships” is the kind of conviction required to win the war. Those comfortable in their beliefs find it easy to defend their principles while those without them call names.
#25 Big difference between a fictional story character and the reality. It can easily be argued that our founding fathers were Quixotic in their beliefs of freedom from an oppressing government. meatpieandtatters: I’d rather not get burned by Ron Paul’s scorched earth policies. His tendency toward dogmatism makes him more political enemies in the electorate than friends. He can’t build a conservative coalition by insulting every conservative voter who disagrees with him.
I have beforetimes found your posts to be well-reasoned and enlightening. However, the subject of Ron Paul seems to tweak your polarization bone.
I guess some of these commenters have forgotten about the Constitution.
I gotta agree with Meatpie~ and Fed Up. I believe in much of what the GOP used to stand for. As such, Ron’s philosoply and mine are very close with regards to the gubment staying out of our lives and not spending our money. I don’t consider myself a kook at all.
I am a quite distressed with the recent racist revalations regarding his past newsletters, as linked on Pajamas to a New Republic article IIRC-to lazy to link, go look yourself.
I don’t think these rather inflammatory statements diminish his philosophy on the constitution. It diminishes him as a person unfortunately, but not his other beliefs IMHO.
The fact that he has absolutely no chance of winning the nomination is meaningless. What he brings to the discussion is enough to make his candidacy worthwhile to me, that he is mocked publicly by the allegedly impartial moderator of a debate just shows the complacency of the establishement candidates. The other candidates dismiss his views as kooky. They are not, they are solid. He is kind of a eccentric guy though.
You know , you go and look a t Ronnie’s web page and he makes some sense. Thats some only. The fact he believes 9/11 was an inside job, U.F.O.’s visit this planet often, and that Elvis and Jim Morrison own a bar together in southern France. He might not be a bad candidate.

To all the Paul-bots: so why is it that all the people who supported Howard Dean in ‘04 are now supporting Ron Paul? Not to mention the tinfoil-hatters and anarchist college students … that’s what I’m seeing here in Southern California.
Paul’s domestic policies sound pretty good to me, but he’s a simpleton when it comes to foreign policy.

Technically, you’re right. Among the declared candidates, Ron Paul is the only blowhard who can point to a record that stands as a solid testament to Ron Paul’s conviction and Ron Paul’s principles. All those other blowhards have the nerve to their convictions and their principles instead. Horrors.
Adhering to the actual Constitution, as written, does not make someone a kook. Adhering to Paul’s idiotic, paranoid, nonsensical views, however, does make one a kook. If a kook falsely claims that his kookiness derives from the Constitution, that doesn’t make him any less of a kook. It just makes him a constitutionally illiterate kook.
