Maybe Chelsea should have kept quiet
She refused to talk to a 9-year-old kid reporter on the campaign trail, but Chelsea Clinton did sit down with a hand-picked group of Stanford University students (who chose not to publicize the event to the rest of the campus). The Stanford Daily reports:
Chelsea Clinton ‘01 fielded questions about her mother’s presidential bid last night before an audience of more than 100 young women packed on the floor of the Pi Beta Phi lounge.
Chelsea Clinton ‘01 made a campaign stop at Stanford yesterday evening, taking questions about her mother’s record on healthcare, Iraq and the Darfur genocide in the Pi Beta Phi lounge. She urged students to vote in California’s Feb. 5 primary.
The former first daughter’s address followed a smaller round table discussion at Old Union. Campaign organizers reached out to sororities in an effort to target women, one of Hillary Clinton’s “core demographics,” according to Carolyn Forstein ‘10, an associate with the Clinton campaign in San Francisco and a member of Stanford Students for Hillary.
“We had to reach out to Hillary supporters and undecided voters,” Forstein said. “We wanted to keep it pretty small, so we didn’t advertise that Chelsea was coming.”
Snort-worthy Chelsea quote: “We are just trying to make my mom’s campaign more accessible to people.”
Accessible…by holding hush-hush roundtables with carefully chosen attendees.
Here’s what she had to say about momma and health care:
“[My mother] and Senator [John] Edwards are committed to universal healthcare,” she said. “Senator [Barack] Obama [D-Ill.] is committed to what we call ‘virtual’ universal healthcare which would make it an option for people to buy into the system. What my mother argues is that if you don’t mandate that everyone have healthcare, the healthy people may not buy into the system, which means that the average cost of insuring people is a lot higher.”
I covered Dr. Hillcare’s plan vs. Obama’s plan here.
Reader Mark e-mails about Chelsea’s remarks: “Oh did you like how she was nice to John Edwards? Hmmm.”
Don’t worry. Silky won’t be returning the favor.

Yes, the apple never falls far from the tree. Even when the tree has no branches (Arkansas jokes anyone?).
Okay. They do this by excluding people from their exclusive affair? I guess they have a different concept of “accessible” than do I.
I have to give Chelsea props. Not only did she become a big-time hedge fund trader in NYC, but she also finds time to be on the campaign trail with her mother every day.
I was an equities trader for 12 years, and I couldn’t find time to step outside for lunch.
She must be as brilliant and accomplished as her mother.
How did you say that, without choking or something?
Chelsea’s speaking speaks loud of Hillary’s worries. This girl has been off limits since day one. Now she’s out at college campuses (with women only seminars). Sounds gender-driven to me.
Hey Raging Republican,#1
The apple must have hit a rock and bounced all the way back to the trunk!
What do you do if your family tree is a shrub?
Healthcare is mandated in Mass. If you don’t get some kind of HC you will be fined.
Personally, I don’t want health insurance. I would rather have an honorable Doctor that I see only when i am really sick….& leave the rest in God’s Hands. I know, I know….rolling of eyes.
signed: ‘Your legs are your 2nd heart…WALK!’ my GrandMother
You mean the rich? SOCIALIST ALERT!!!!
I am a little confused here. How do you reach out to undecided voters by not advertising? Is Pi Beta Phi the west coast version of the “Skull and Bones” for liberals?
It looks from the picture here as if Cute Lil Chel has gone a long way toward mastering the legendary family Lip Bite.
Watch out, future electorate! She may feel your pain, too!
I don’t know what John Edwards is doing but sometimes it looks like he is a calculated foil for Clinton, like he attacks her in a way that looks rather unpleasant and then she gets some sympathy.
Not rolling eye’s at all I still don’t have health insurance and never had, saved alot of money that way, Thank God he has watched over us. But I will say I am shoping for some because me and my wife are pushin 50, Ok well I’m pushin 50 and ya never know when all the abuse we’ve put our bodies thru will catch up and at the cost of serious illness it could break you.
I find it incredibly ironic that Hillary Clinton blames big banking, hedge funds, and mortgage companies for the subprime crisis, but doesn’t criticize her daughter for helping support the problem as an analyst for a hedge fund!!!
According to a recent interview:
Chelsea is an analyst for a company that thrives on bad debt!
I doubt we’ll see Hillary come out and bash her daughter for helping to unravel the fabric of the US economy.
There is already Tens of Billions of dollars in Medcare Fraud. With “universal” health care, there will be a Trillion dollars of fraud.
Providing health insurance is Not the responsability of the Federal Gov’t.
I like my BlueCross/Blue shield just fine thank you.
Chelsea has lived her whole life on the taxpayers expense. She is literally a born socialist.
What a snob,, just like her Mom.
I can’t wait for free health care and have Hillary pay for it. I think I might just retire if she gets elected. I’ve always wanted to suck on the teat of the taxpayer and in addition I’d rather not pay any income taxes if Hillary (or Edwards or Obama) becomes president. Oh my gosh, I’m already sounding like a liberal! I guess I could just move to France or Germany instead…

‘mandated health care’….
i think it’s scary that we even got to this point. the first person who thought it was their right to force an individual to buy into a system to offset costs for the whole should have had a bullet in their head.
it would have discouraged the other assbags from using it as a campaign narrative.
That’s got to be the most snort inducing comment of the day.
The Edwards plan is almost identical to the Clinton plan. So, in terms of health care, that makes sense. The Obama plan is the problem. Not just because it’s inferior.
By running to the right of HRC and Edwards, he’s given Republicans a grand opportunity if he doesn’t win the nomination. The GOP candidate can say that the liberal Obama thought the Clinton/Edwards plan was too far. Which in terms of the actual policy, is the furthest thing from the truth.
It’s the equivalent of a Republican showing advertisements that his rival for the nomination is offering too many tax cuts. But Republicans have too much discipline for such nonsense.
This exactly why I don’t support Obama. His policies and politics aren’t as refined as his rivals.
Blind Mule#8–You beat me to the punch. But while we are at it,let’s take the profit motive out of business, shut down free speach, take away one’s right to defend himself, give illegals the more rights than citizens have, and sell our National Defence to those who want to kill us.Hillary’s not a socialist, after all,ITS FOR THE CHILDREN.What this country needs is CHANGE,CHANGE CHANGE–yeah, from Democracy to Dictatorship.(sarc off)
Translation: Socialized medicine.
No thanks.
As far as health insurance goes, I don’t think it’s good to have it mandated, but I still think it’s a good idea for everyone to have it (but again, not because it’s forced). My dad has always been really healthy, has never smoked or drunk alcohol, and stays in shape. Nonetheless, he had an emergency brain surgery and almost died when he and my mom were first married. That was over 30 years ago, and if they hadn’t had insurance at the time, they would still be paying off the debts.
A friend of mine a few years ago was between jobs and didn’t get insurance for a few months and her appendix ruptured. Guess how much that cost her.
My point being, you never know when something’s going to happen. I guess I feel like it’s worth some up front money, just in case. But that might just be me.
So when boiled down the democrat plans are nothing more than just another extorti…..huge tax increase.
I always found Chelsea’s presence at the campaign’s a little weird and sorta creepy; I mean she usually just sits there on stage, emotionless and expressionless, silently and motionlessly waiting for her cues to either applaud, smile , stand, or sometimes do all three.
When her dad was president, they use to say Hillary was the most powerful woman in the world, but now I think Chelsea has inherited that position by simply obeying her parents’ orders to sit and observe.
I mean think about: Through all her parents’ covert political and personal intrigues,cover-ups, and unethical shenanigans - Chelsea has been there, right by their side, just as they placed her, privy to and silently observing everything that took place. In short, Chelsea knows where the political bodies are buried!
Now, wouldn’t it be a hoot if Chelsea were to someday (and hopefully soon) pull a Christine Crawford, and pen her own version of “Mommie Dearest?”
Against that day, I bet Bill and Hillary make sure Chelsea is a very happy girl! And given the Clintons’ history, wouldn’t you?
Not at all, Eclectic. You are right. The whole point of insurance is to be insured that we are covered, in the event of an event, whether it be car insurance, life insurance, health insurance, renters insurance, etc.
But, as everyone points out, forcing it is not the answer. I have never condoned socialized healthcare and never will. There are too many that have experimented with it and you can look at what has happened with their systems to see why we should never even consider it.
In the January edition of Reader’s Digest, there is an article detailing how the federal government wastes money to the tune of $1 TRILLION per year! Eliminating the waste would pay for national healthcare. OK, everyone can commence laughing uproariously!

Or us taxpayers could keep it in our pockets!
A politician telling me what is the best use of my money is like having a priest give me advise on my marriage.
I’ve always figured I can take care of my money better than the federal government, especially with the crap on which they tend to spend it, including ideas like socialized healthcare, bridges to nowhere, etc.

Umm…please be a bit more specific.
My father in-law is a priest!
I meant a Catholic priest who is celibate giving advice on relationships.
I am Catholic myself and had to go through the surreal process with a priest prior to getting married.

Understood.
What I had assumed.
Just friendly chain-yanking!
BTW, as far as I know, for at least the first several centuries of the early, unified Church, there was not a priest celibacy requirement anywhere.
I hope Chelsea talks some more, the comment about how Government Health Insurance HAS to be mandatory is very illuminating as to her mother’s mindset. Speak some more Chelsea, let’s hear what else your mother has up her sleeve.
Correct. Nor is it mentioned anywhere in Scripture. Of course, a hierarchical clergy structure isn’t mentioned anywhere in Scripture, either, but that’s for another thread
Chelsea does take after her mother. They are both fond of selecting the questions (and audience) they’d like to respond to in Hillary’s campaign. Their definition of “open” and almost any other word in the English language is definitely not what is in any dictionary. Must be a family trait.

Good post.

And, sorry for almost straying off topic.
Man, what was I thinking? Trying to discuss the way a leftist does?!
Thank you.
(Sorry…no emoticons!)
I wonder how long after next Nov. Chelsea will be revealed as the Clinton political dynasty heir apparent?
This isn’t exactly up Senator Clinton’s sleeve. It’s out in the open. Edwards and Clinton have both been touting mandates as an important piece of their plan.
You are all being so nice to Hillary’s daughter. I read the original article and the comments made about her “appearance” in the Stanford college campus newpaper and they ripped her to shreads. They really can’t stand her(or her parents)at Stanford.
When they say “mandatory” healthcare they also mean forcing businesses to provide healthcare to their employees, forcing many to switch to part-time employees, cutting jobs, paying less, and possibly going out of business.
How on earth can this help people? Especially those who are middle class or below?
#44, Ditkaca, it helps them by turning them into Democrat voters. Oh, wait…
Does the Clinton campaign get a pass for being so blatantly sexist? Why didn’t the Stanford men get an opportunity to
drillgrill the Clintonmouth-piecespokesperson?I guess to liberals healthy people are just as bad as wealthy people. Gotta stick it to those health nazis for having the presumption of not wanting to pay into a healthcare system just because they’re healthy and don’t need it. Ooh, maybe Hillary wants to make it “progressive” so that the healthier you are, the more you have to pay into the healthcare system.
Do they any actuaries that will back them up on this? I doubt it. The idea that forcing the uninsured into the system will significantly reduce average costs is one of many lies by those advocating universal health plans. If all the uninsured were brought into the system the most it could possibly reduce premiums would be about 15-20% (About the typical two year increase.) This assumes none of the newly insured will demand more services now that they are insured. Plus many of the unsinsured (myself included) pay out of pocket, so in reality we are paying now anyway. The reduction, if any, would be more in the order of 5%. Since the government would be running the show any savings would rapidly turn into costs overruns, as it does in every single entitlement program I can think of.
When are we going to start seeing some numbers by qualified actuaries to back up this ridiculous claim? Or is a 20% maximum theoretical reduction the best they can come up with?
It won’t make any difference.
They didn’t listen to the numbers against raising the minimum wage, or global warming, or amnesty, or the AMT, or tax cuts, or……..
Your right. Any expert actuaries will be vilified as tools of the insurance companies.
Yes, good one, I wanna see Hillary’s Plastic Surgeon.
Good! Nice to see someone in SF has a brain. Did anyone ask Chelsea what she thought of Monica Lewinsky, as we approach the 10 yr anniversary of the breaking of the story (Jan 17, 1998)? Or better yet, ask Chelsea if she’d stick by a husband that has “sexual relations” with someone the same age as their daughter.
Drudge has a Lewinsky story up on his site, wonder if there will be more over the next few days?
It’s a good question, I think. If she wants universal health care, it should be truly universal - the same quality and level of service for all.
Hillary-care means that people who choose to live a healthy lifestyle, buy health insurance when they are young and do not become involved in dangerous behaviors will be forced to support those who choose the opposite. That is undemocratic, takes freedom away from those who choose their own behaviors as well as continuing to take away personal responsibility for one’s own life.

I agree with you; I think it’s a GREAT question!
But, not the same lousy, miserable level of service for all.
Didn’t someone recently, a few days ago, on a different thread, present a Churchill quotation regarding capitalism and socialism?
Something like (paraphrased):
“Capitalism’s worst vice is the unequal sharing of wealth.
Socialism’s greatest virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

Exactly.
let me see-the gov’t is going to mandate health insurance, and the insurance companies aren’t going to gouge the public, did I get that right?Liberal logic at its best.
Oh,I forgot, all we need then is price controls on insurance-but Hillary isn’t a Socialist.
Thanks, granite, and there will of course be a dual system. One for Hillary and her crowd and then the rest of us will have to wait months to see a Dr. We will be forced to give up our hard earned money. We will be fined for offering to pay a Dr. Under her failed suggested health-care, the penalty for attempting to find your own Dr. would have been $10,000.
Ummm, just guessin’ here….They didn’t have cigars?
Interesting how a history major lands a primo hedge fund job as an analyst. Any idea as who the employer is and is Chelsea being paid while parading across the country with Mom? If she is being paid, doesn’t that constitute a campaign donation that exceeds the limits her employer can donate? Just asking…
Back in the day, I pities Chelsea for being the progeny of such disgusting people. However, she is a grown woman now, and rather than form her own positions and “leave the nest,” she has now chosen to follow mom around, echoing every talking point the HRC campaign has.
No more pity. I understand now that she is just a Clinton, and will say anything and do anything for a vote. The apple doesn’t fall from the tree, indeed
The Raging Republican #1, looks more like a nut tree than apple.
OMG! that is a clone.
Yeah…that was worth making a little girl feel like crud. Good for you Chelsea. You are your mother’s child.
And if the healthy people buy-in under duress, their costs will be WAY higher.
How close did Hillary suggest Chelsea was to the dangers of the WTC on 9/11? Maybe that is why Chelsea is afraid of crowds? I wonder if any of the 100 or so women at the event were “plants?” I mean, you can’t be too careful, right? What if nobody asked the question(s) that she was ready for?
Let’s face it folks, “plants” have been an integral part of the political scene in the USA; IMO they have been used for many years but now thanks to the Internet they are being exposed far more rapidly to many more people than ever before.
I do wonder how much longer the Internet will last as a free speech/press zone before the corporoid elites and their political handmaids turn it into another information oligopoly like the MSM.
I’m still working on this…
mngirl, here’s what he’s saved us from
I just had a horrible thought. Clinton and Edwards are almost the dream ticket for liberals. She is a Socialist Bull Dyke and he is a metro-sexual. Ewwww. If one of them was a minority the entire liberal world would swoon and revive their favorite 60s songs like “The Age of Aquarius”, “Black Is the Color of My True Love’s Hair”, “Sunny Afternoon”, “I ain’t marching anymore”, “When the Levee Breaks”, and the top Clinton campaign song *drumroll* … “Fortunate Son” which just beat out “Wouldn’t it be nice”.
George Orwell put it best in Animal Farm: “All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”
So, no, you won’t get to see any doctor that Hillary gets to see. But then, think of how screwed up they would have to be to look at her thighness in the buff!
