Way to pull a Chris Hitchens, Huffington. What a smear-snob site that place is. When all is said and done, we'll see who's lighting it up in Hell.

From one of the comments on that site:

Has anyone read what some of the conservative and evangelical bloggers said about this "eulogy?" "Moving" and "touching" were frequent adjectives. To me, such descriptors are baffling. The whole thing is a look into Coulter's disturbing childhood. I mean, isn't calling your parents "Mother" and "Father" enough evidence to show the subconscious distance you felt from them? With this "eulogy," Coulter somehow strikes the bizarre combination of being infinitely prudish, snobbish, and heartbreaking all at once. I guess it's "touching" to me too, but not for the same reasons that those who embrace Coulter's twisted patriarchal political, social, and religious ideology believe.

That greatly interested me. What do liberals call their parents? By the name?

If you folks think it’s just the left that spews hatreds on blogs and in comments, you’re delusional. There’s more than enough hate on both sides to go around.

Mook, As my second grade teacher, Mrs. Helms, used to say: "Please see me."

I hope your point is not as Kovacs' appears to be; he seems to still believe that there is some sort of moral equivalence between Ann Coulter's craft and the vile sentiment that Chris Kelly bended over and pushed out at Arianna Huffington's site yesterday.

1. Ann Coulter takes her arguments directly to those she is addressing. Chris Kelly spent the majority of his piece demeaning the character of a dead man who had no piece of the fight, akin to a playground bully who is so tired of getting one-upped by someone stronger that he turns around and wallops the other guy's sister in the face.

Someone as especially fair minded as you might concede that yesterday was a new depth for the American Left at the Huffington Post.

2. Like 17th century Irish author Jonathon Swift, Ann Coulter most effectively utilizes vulgarity and ill will in her work when she merely collects it from her opposition and throws it right back in their faces. (Please see paragraphs 4-8 of my entry before you arrived, #80.)

As #89 "On My Soapbox" ably explained, Ann didn't only utilize the word "f#gg#t" to identify John Edwards as the obvious wuss that he is,or for mere shock value, she was also highlighting the current fascist state of the left, where the use of certain words can either get you fired, or thrown into a rehabilitation camp, or in Issiah Washington's case, both. (I believe that the American Left still ironically venerates 1960's comedian Lenny Bruce for having utilized the same strategy.)

You don't find the actual word "f#gg#t" funny, fair enough. Neither do I. But your sensibilities seem to be forcing you to take your ball and go home too early. In my opinion, you are misunderstanding a very basic tenant of Ann Coulter's style. Her style being, vulgarity and ill will not for their own sake, but to emulate and highlight the folly of her opposition.

I also notice that Ann gets a bonus pleasure from the major media not even understanding that a liberal had already said or did exactly what she is currently getting in trouble for. Can you say "Lexis-Nexis?"

PS.

There have been bloggers on HuffPo who have wished Cheney would die?

Huffington Post's 2006 Thanksgiving Prayer for Dick Cheney's Heart Attack

But back then, at least they weren't knocking over his dead father's gravestone.

Mookie,
I was only responding specifically to your above post. I didn't realize we were splitting hairs and you were only talking about commentators when you said "If you folks think it’s just the left that spews hatreds on blogs and in comments ". Besides, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find a left-wing host who has wished the President were shot or assassinated, say Randi Rhodes for instance? I know she's only a radio "personality", but that counts, right? I guess I could spend all day researching and pulling quotes, but I have to get my kids ready for school. :)

Sorry Mookie, but I don’t think anyone here thinks it’s only the lefties who spew hatred. However, I am hard-pressed to find a conservative who comes straight out and wishes for someone to die of a heart attack (Cheney) or cancer (Tony Snow). You may not like Ann Coulter or the manner in which she employs satire, but she’s got nothing on some of the bloggers on DK or HP. Not here to defend everything she’s ever said even though I believe that sometimes she’s very provacative

There have been bloggers on HuffPo who have wished Snow and Cheney would die? Bloggers, not commenters.

Look, all the things you cited have roots. Do your research and come back and act like something besides a troll.

To point: The faggot was a reference to an actor who checked himself into rehab for saying "faggot". See, she has wit. You just have to know "wit" to understand "wit". The lefty libtards and the MSM used it to defame her which was "rich".

P.S. She has little regard for conservatives who do things that make you go; “WHAAAA?” If you read her columns you will find she will go after Bush and Clinton with equal enthusiasm.

Try again – nobody is buying what you have to sell.

Context

Look, all the things you cited have roots. Do your research and come back and act like something besides a troll.

To point: The faggot was a reference to an actor who checked himself into rehab for saying “faggot”. See, she has wit. You just have to know “wit” to understand “wit”. The lefty libtards and the MSM used it to defame her which was “rich”.

P.S. She has little regard for conservatives who do things that make you go; “WHAAAA?” If you read her columns you will find she will go after Bush and Clinton with equal enthusiasm.

Try again – nobody is buying what you have to sell.
