Has anyone read what some of the conservative and evangelical bloggers said about this “eulogy?” “Moving” and “touching” were frequent adjectives. To me, such descriptors are baffling. The whole thing is a look into Coulter’s disturbing childhood. I mean, isn’t calling your parents “Mother” and “Father” enough evidence to show the subconscious distance you felt from them? With this “eulogy,” Coulter somehow strikes the bizarre combination of being infinitely prudish, snobbish, and heartbreaking all at once. I guess it’s “touching” to me too, but not for the same reasons that those who embrace Coulter’s twisted patriarchal political, social, and religious ideology believe.

That greatly interested me. What do liberals call their parents? By the name?

I hope your point is not as Kovacs’ appears to be; he seems to still believe that there is some sort of moral equivalence between Ann Coulter’s craft and the vile sentiment that Chris Kelly bended over and pushed out at Arianna Huffington’s site yesterday.

1. Ann Coulter takes her arguments directly to those she is addressing. Chris Kelly spent the majority of his piece demeaning the character of a dead man who had no piece of the fight, akin to a playground bully who is so tired of getting one-upped by someone stronger that he turns around and wallops the other guy’s sister in the face.

Someone as especially fair minded as you might concede that yesterday was a new depth for the American Left at the Huffington Post.

2. Like 17th century Irish author Jonathon Swift, Ann Coulter most effectively utilizes vulgarity and ill will in her work when she merely collects it from her opposition and throws it right back in their faces. (Please see paragraphs 4-8 of my entry before you arrived, #80.)

As #89 “On My Soapbox” ably explained, Ann didn’t only utilize the word “f#gg#t” to identify John Edwards as the obvious wuss that he is,or for mere shock value, she was also highlighting the current fascist state of the left, where the use of certain words can either get you fired, or thrown into a rehabilitation camp, or in Issiah Washington’s case, both. (I believe that the American Left still ironically venerates 1960’s comedian Lenny Bruce for having utilized the same strategy.)

You don’t find the actual word “f#gg#t” funny, fair enough. Neither do I. But your sensibilities seem to be forcing you to take your ball and go home too early. In my opinion, you are misunderstanding a very basic tenant of Ann Coulter’s style. Her style being, vulgarity and ill will not for their own sake, but to emulate and highlight the folly of her opposition.

I also notice that Ann gets a bonus pleasure from the major media not even understanding that a liberal had already said or did exactly what she is currently getting in trouble for. Can you say “Lexis-Nexis?”

Besides, I’m sure it wouldn’t be difficult to find a left-wing host who has wished the President were shot or assassinated, say Randi Rhodes for instance? I know she’s only a radio “personality”, but that counts, right? I guess I could spend all day researching and pulling quotes, but I have to get my kids ready for school.
