God save us from “bipartisanship”
I’m getting a few e-mails from readers who are convinced I shouldn’t be worried about the White House/Republican “economic stimulus” proposals because they’ll only include tax cuts.
No, they won’t. They will be larded up with Clintonian goodies and giveaways and bailout measures–home heating bill aid, foreclosure aid to states, etc. etc. etc. They’ll only be arguing about how much to give away, not whether. See: Liberal-nomics.
Mark my words.
Here’s Rep. John Boehner pledging to work with the Dems. Watch your wallets – via Reuters:
Democratic and Republican leaders of the House of Representatives agreed on Wednesday to develop a bipartisan economic stimulus plan to help avert a possible recession.
“There is an agreement that we will work together to try to bring forward a package that truly is stimulative,” House Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio told reporters following a meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and other Democratic leaders.

Sadly, you are probably right Michelle. Bush will look for tax cuts or rebates like in 2001 and the liberals will insist on extended unemployment benefits, bigger welfare/food stamp payments, and other freebies to those who aren’t contributing to the economy in the first place.
Allowing everybody to keep more of what they earned is perfect but padding existing government give aways is the wrong thing to do. That nonsense never gets undone.

Again, if (?when?) we get to the tipping point where the majority of voters pay NO tax, and thus taxpayers are in the minority, we will be in for HUGE trouble.

Bipartisanship means we’re screwed. Pelosi and Reid will make sure the tax cuts won’t be renewed, the estate tax will stay in place, taxes will go up to save the stupid and once again, we will all be the losers. The looney left will expect the Republicans to roll over and play dead which is not surprising considering what a wimpy party they have turned out to be.

never good when the word bipartisanship is being thrown about… it usually means, dems get what they want and repubs get shafted. of course, isn’t mcpain busy on the campaign trail? so he won’t be there to manipulate the vote teddy’s way. hmmm looks like my fax bill will spike this month…

The best way to prevent a recession is for the mainstream media to quit trumpeting the doom and gloom “the sky is falling” mantra like they’ve done for the past 8 years even when the financial stats said otherwise.
Like a broken clock, after enough time passes, eventually they will be correct.
Why does “bipartisanship” tend to equate to catering to the crazy left ideals? Can’t it ever go the other way toward something that is logical and might actually help?
Let’s keep an eye on the “conservatives” who bail on us. You can bet if they are from FL, I will be voting the bum(s) out!

It seems every time something “truly bipartisan” comes down the pike we conservatives (real conservatives) are giving something up and the libs are merely settling for less of what they want, but still getting some of it.
Why is this so?
What we need is an amendment to constitution that works like a “sunset” clause on *ALL* laws – after 7 years they are removed from the books unless re-passed by Congress, or originally passed by a 2/3 (or 3/4?) supermajority (in which case they will expire in 14 years).
That gives us a brake on bad laws in the event (eventuality?) of a guitless Congress and/or President
I like it….. except for the 14 year expiration on laws passed by supermajority. What would work even better would be expirations on members of Congress. CAN WE GET SOME TERM LIMITS PLEASE!

For Congress’ consideration, I present the TexasTiger economic stimulus plan.
Appropriate $53,500 for the purchase of 535 leather belts and 535 wobbly-legged chairs. Give one belt and one chair to each Representative and Senator. Send them on “fact-finding” tours to their attics in search of stout beams. Place wobbly chair under beam. Climb on top of chair. Loop belt over beam. Insert head in belt loop. Do the Macarena until wobbly-legged chair tips.
Watch the Dow hit 15,000 the next day.
Keep inhaling all the GOP/Liberal fumes folks. It’s all from the same tax pipe.

I hate to say it, but fiscally speaking our country is always better off when one party controls congress and the other party controls the white house.

I’ve seen over the year, that bipartisanship means, liberals win, conservatives lose. When liberals announce that they want a bipartisan agreement, it means the liberals want to pass it, the conservatives need to shut up.

Clintonian: It’s not the money, it’s the other meaning of the word — as in socialist handouts. Hillary is nothing but a big government nanny type. She knows what’s best for the rest of us, don’t you know?
I’m usually a pretty calm person. I even have liberal friends. I take most things “in stride”. But, there is one thing that really…and I mean really…upsets me, is seeing Kennedy touting the virtues of Chavez’s oil. “Owned by the Venezulan people”. What a lot of garbage. Why any network would show that, is disgusting. I immediately flip the channel. I’d rather watch 60 seconds of Rosie than that home heating oil spot, made just to slap the U.S. in the face.
These bailouts have me totally incensed. I actually read contracts before I sign them and pay my bills – on time. Therefore, my taxes will go to bailout idiots that do neither.

I think, but I’m not sure, that back when Bush issued those tax rebate checks, didn’t those who hadn’t paid any taxes get that rebate too?
I think tax cuts are fair, and so are rebates — for those who actually pay them in the first place. It’s our money.
But it stops there. No bailouts, handouts, nothing more.
IF“bipartisanship” worked we would only need one party!

Cut spending and cut taxes these are the only things that actually work, that and drop the Fed prime rate.
Every time I hear a Republican utter those words, I feel like my head will explode. I don’t want someone in office who will “cross the aisle in a show of unity.” I want one who will fight for freedom and individual rights with pit-bull tenacity. We don’t need a unifier as much as we need a leader with character. Not that compromise is always bad— if the Dems were for torte reform, smaller government, disbanding the Dept. of Education, criminalizing illegal entry into this country, cutting taxes, and keeping our military strong, I’d be all for a joint effort.
Damn. On the wrong side again. I live in FL. Who’s going to help ME with my home-cooling bills? LOL!
Bipartisan always means the RINOS are getting their way. The Gang of 14 with McCain and company comes to mind.
The only stimulus this country needs is to have the members of both houses of Congress scream, “Don’t taze me, bro!”
The only type of economic stimulus needed is to cut the taxes and cut gov’t spending. Then, sit back and watch the economy get stimulated!

I second that, since our grandchildren will be paying for this so-called “economic stimulus” 50 years from now as these measures become ingrained into the system.
The only issue I can see with what OC said is that if this ever came to pass they’d have to appoint a “blue-ribbon” commission to “recommend” that laws be taken off the books, complete with hearings from “victims” who would be hurt if the law went away.
