Mocking Mao

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 16, 2008 11:45 AM

Yesterday, I noted French company Citroen’s apology to China for running an ad featuring a doctored photo of the murderous Chairman Mao. Here are some of the fun submissions from readers in response to the call to mock Mao. Several readers took Citroen’s ad and ran with it:

Reader Nelson pimped his Mao. It’s my favorite:

Reader Ken:

Reader Scott:

Reader Joel went with a circus theme:

Reader David:

Reader Liz sent this old but goodie photoshop. It’s my second favorite:

    Yes but everybody hates them.

Oh, and Citroen = lemon. You can’t make this stuff up.

Hmm, I’ll need to show these to my wife and see what she thinks. (She’s Chinese)

I’ve been to Tiananmen square, and have looked at the tomb of the well known murdering tyrant. I didn’t go inside, but there was a bit of a line there the 2 times I was in the square.

And yes, I did look for tank tracks. I didn’t see any. I think they replaced the paving stones that would have been damaged by the tank tracks.

“Things got so bad for Citroen that people were building them just to burn them….”

Thanks Michelle for posting one of my attempts at mocking a totalitarian thug. I noticed you didn’t post my other, naughtier one.

If anyone’s interested you can see that one here.

eBay doesn’t allow auctions for any firearm related products. Then again, perhaps the point of the joke is that a French rifle is not a firearm. If so, I apologize.

I would also like to point out that Fabrique Nationale, in Belgium, makes some of the finest firearms in the world. Not quite French, but it shows that these socialist European countries can make some good stuff.

Depends where you are. In Haiti it would be correct (which is why I looked it up).

But, hey, leave it to the French to build lemons!

The paving stones were protected against tank treads by the bodies of pro-democracy demonstrators.

Wow, that KISS one is very well done! Kudos!

The government of China is going to have to get used to this, it’s all part of growing up. The French could add that say we’ll never stop making fun of Napoleon.
