Fred, talk about shafting more holes into "pristine" (getting to hate that holy word!) ANWAR more -- please! I'm sick and tired of watching cute pixs of Bambi's ilk prancing over oil reservers that could save us blood and treasure in a secure homebred energy supply. (think about it; pols would rather let soliders die than crimp Bambi's lifestyle!) And it's not just ANWAR alone we ought suck (whose potential's likely far vaster than studies suggest) but its offshore potential too. Think why the Russians and China are tooth and nail staking out areas in the Arctic ocean. Hello! We don't need to go tearing down the Rockies for oil shale yet.

Well said, SheetAnchor. Your efforts on behalf of Fred Thompson are greatly appreciated.

And just so you'll know, the guy over at Fred08.com who asked if you were in SC is me. :)

For Republican voters who want a “true” conservative at the top of the Republican presidential ticket, please understand that you now have 24 hours to your party’s and America’s destiny.

Senator Fred Thompson, as you know, is the sole bearer of the conservative mantle; more specifically, he is strong on national security and defense; for smaller government; and low taxes and reduced federal spending. He is 100% pro-life and family; stridently against illegal immigration; and a proponent of national sovereignty.

Now is the time for you to make a difference on the battlefield, namely, South Carolina. Senator Thompson has the campaign momentum, yet the time is short. You must sieze the initiative now and press the attack. How? Visit www.fred08.com , become a “Friend of Fred,” and use the free “Phone for Fred” system and phone list, to call Republicans in South Carolina.

The most recent polls indicate that 41% of the South Carolina Republican voters are either undecided or may change their vote. Senator Thompson is in a position to win this race, but the race will likely be decided by a few hundred votes. Your critical phone calls to South Carolina Republicans on Friday January 18th, can make the difference in determining whether the Republican Party, America’s only hope for the preservation of the nation, will have the one candidate who can unite the party’s three voting pillars, that is, the Reagan Coalition, of fiscal conservatives; national security conservatives; and religious/social conservatives.

Senator Thompson has been campaigning intensely in South Carolina on both the ground, through his 35 city bus tour, holding 5 or more events a day, talking directly to the voters in person, and in local live radio broadcast townhalls; and across the air waves with excellent media advertising, financed by hundreds of small donors.

Now, the Senator needs your timely and vital support. This is the proverbial “crunch time” or “clutch?” Will you, as a committed conservative, “step up” in the “clutch,” to save your country? The future of the Republican Party, and most importantly, America lies in your hands.

In the general election:
I would love to vote for Hunter,
I would like to vote for Fred,
I could vote for Mitt,
I would hold my nose and vote for Rudy,
but beyond that I would vote Libertarian, and let Ms. Rodham take it by default just for the shear entertainment value of the next 4 years, before I'd vote for Señor Juan "Amnesty" McCain or Mike.

I had previously complained that Fred was telegraphing his campaign, but on this issue, he got it right. We have plenty of untapped domestic sources of oil, including the continental shelves off the Florida Gulf coast, the California coast and the East coast. Our imports from Canada are from the Alberta oil sands, where the high price of crude has made it economical to extract the oil. Another possible source would be the liquifaction of coal, although the global warming crowd would scream. However, I would rather spend millions for advanced technology than one cent in tribute to global jihad.

Fred and/or Hunter would be my preferred ticket, and I'm still hoping.

It's a long way to the general election, but with super Tuesday upon us, like a fly on an outhouse, I may have to settle ---- AGAIN!!!!
God give us a freaking CONSERVATIVE!

Fred Thompson has been my choice since before he announced. I cannot understand why any true conservative cannot see he is the obvious best candidate in the field.
As a fifty year veteran of the oil patch, I can tell you that reducing dependence on imports is not as simple as just "drilling in our own country." Admittedly, we have been undeservedly restrained by eco-freaks from drilling in many promising offshore areas and ANWAR. The truth is the United States is very mature in development of existing production and there are few, if any, unexplored basins with potential to make a dent in demand.

We will continue to find new reserves in previously ignored or unrecognized formations. We continually improve secondary and tertiary recovery methods but this incremental production is minute compared to our total requirements.
Oil shale at current crude prices has become profitable and is probably our best bet for energy dependence.

Obviously, we need to conserve oil and use alternative energy sources when possible and practical but the truth is alternative sources are presently capable of providing only a small percentage of energy needs, are more expensive than oil and some are actually energy negative.

We do need newer, more efficient refineries but will only get them when it is economically viable.

I call shenanigans. As long as our troops are there and we're so dependent on their oil (instead of opening the arctic drilling area), all presidents will be dancing the two-step with them. Bush did it more because of his familial and business ties, but basically- we are Saudi Arabia's bitch (pardon my french).
