Fred won’t dance with the Sauds
Still can’t get those images of Bush doing the Saudi sword polka? Me, neither. This will make you feel a little better:
Appealing to Saudi Arabia to encourage higher oil production to help lower prices is not in the long-term interest of the United States, Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said on Wednesday.
The White House said President George W. Bush hopes that as a result of his talks this week with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, OPEC would be encouraged to increase production to help alleviate high oil prices, which have touched $100 a barrel.
Appearing on CNN, Thompson was asked whether, as president, he would turn to Saudi Arabia for help as Bush did.
Thompson, a former Tennessee senator, said the problem was a “little bigger” than Saudi Arabia.
“It’s not in the United States’ long-term interest to go hat in hand begging people to do things that in the end we know they’re not going to do,” Thompson said.
That’s straight talk.

FDT is my man, and a good morning to you MM.
If Michelle Malkin is finally impressed by Fred Thompson the whole country must have been won over to take him seriously
What a great way to start the day. Thank you. (Kicks up heels, goes for coffee)
No nonsense. I like it.
I echo the above sentiments. No nonsense, straightforward talk.
Fred Thompson needs to get out there with energy and this same direct attitude.
He is still *my* candidate, and - in my opinion - best suited for the job.
And I’m sure his position will make Hillary happy.
Straight, honest appraisals of the situation are what you get from Fred Thompson. This country would be well served by having him for president.
Good Morning,
It’s time to break out the dance!
Happy Dance
WOW! Finally someone that will no longer pander to the “House of Saud” using straight talk to explain his position.
Keeping fingers crossed for Fred.
The Saudi’s should be told how it really is. Work with us with no B.S., no back stabbibg, or be taken over by fundamentalists. And at that point our hand would likely be forced and in no time at all they would be back to living in tents without gold plated toilets and with their tea once more being heated over a camel dung fire.
Go Fred … Hard to believe there is actually a candidate that says what he means and means what he says … no backtracking … no changing message based on the audience … I only feel bad that unless the people get their collective heads out of the sand and start supporting him we will be stuck with “RINO-LIBERALS” running against Hillary or Obama …
I have this picture in my head of Fred with a sword engaging in “aggressive negotiations” with the Saudis.
Go Fred!
‘Tis a very good read. It does, however, make me depressed to see how few people are willing to deal with reality.
YES!!! It’s wonderful to see you taking one of his points, Michelle; I’m telling a straight shooter’ll hit the target every time! GO FRED!!!
Fred…step up buddy. AMP it up…let’s get some passion…South Carolina can be yours. It’s time to separate from the herd.
Wow. No spin.
You finally saw the same Fred I’ve seen since March of last year.
I knew you’d come around. What took you so long?
Thanks Michelle!
Fred is my man and I’m happy to see this confirming entry. I have been getting so depressed reading all the press McCain and Huckabee are getting. Thanks Michelle.
Fred has a rule against dancing with men in dresses.
Fred is our best choice. Period.
I hope we won’t have to settle for someone less.
This straight talk is nothing knew. Fred’s been talking straight since day one as anyone who’s been paying attention would know.
Fred is the best man for the job, by far.
http://www.damaverick.com/hosannah.jpg
I can’t say it enough. Fred is the best man for the job. Period. Go Fred!!!
Just watched the new ad. All I can say is: “Amen, brother!”
Ok, sure Fred gave a good (and super vague) answer
- but -
WE NEED OIL!!
What solutions does Fred have to an alternative? I give Bush kudos for doing what he must to try and get more oil. I don’t think he was holding hands for fun.
Maybe it’s time we Americans pour all of our welfare money, foreign aid money, pork money etc. into one big pot and finally get an alternative fuel.
Imagine how the world would change if we no longer needed the middle east.
So far it’s just talk.
How about we just drill for our own oil until an alternative fuel is developed? Then, we could get rich off of our oil and fund the research and development. Actually, I think Fred mentioned drilling for our own oil in the S.C. debate.
Of course, it’s just talk. He hasn’t been elected yet.
I’m with Fred too!!!
I finally concluded this after rocking myself in a corner crying for 2 months (after concluding Condi will not run for President.)
He’s at least saying everything I want to hear, unlike all of the other candidates.
I am a Fred supporter from a long way back. I only hope and pray that he can light a fire under the nimrods that think Mccain is “okay” and that amnesty is not a “bad” thing at all. The real issue here is for a candidate to say what he (or she) thinks, what they plan to do and how they plan to do it. None of the dhimmies nor even the Republicans except Thompson have really gone to “straight talk” and I find it so refreshing. I hate the subtleties and nuance that have infected the political scene of late.
GO FRED and GOD SPEED!!!!!!
gregorystephens,#26
I don’t believe he can be elected in the general election.
How refreshing. Political talk that makes sense. Keep it up Fred. You’re on your way.
Thanks for the Happy Dance link, aj. Actually made me smile before I fully woke up.
I want to see candidates calling one another to task on their differences. We see one or two turn on whoever the frontrunner may be in a given primary state. But, we don’t see them, including Thomposon, outlining why they are different on all the big issues and why there position is better.
It’s just too much election year pandering. Maybe I am just too jaded after all these years. But, it is irritating to see things going as they are. I want to know your core beliefs, candidates!
This is hardly leadership from Thompson. If he doesn’t want to talk to the Saudis, what does he want to do? He doesn’t say.
Invade and steal their oil?
Blockade China and India to prevent them buying oil?
Stop the US from consuming so much oil? (a Democratic position)
Drill Alaska? (a thousand barrel “drop” in the bucket)
Like Bush, his only “idea” is to sound tough. He really has no idea what he’s doing or saying.
We get less than 20% of our oil from Saudi Arabia, but that 20% is a HUGE amount of oil that is shipped from there. Without our 20% purchase, the Saudi’s would be seriously hurting for revenue.
WE have plenty of oil, but stupid enviro-legislation has crippled our ability to process it. No new refineries have gone on-line in America in over 30 years, what does that tell you? It says we can barely process what we can get from overseas, because sweet crude is easier to crack and refine.
Let’s build new refineries…with 21st century technology…and get back to using our own oil. Enviro’s be damned, let’s drill offshore California, Texas, and Alaska and cut all ties to Saudi and Venezuela.
Buy American made products to quit sucking up to China. Good Lord! Red China long ago vowed to destroy us, and we are giving them the ammo to do it!!
ok…i’m off my soapbox now
Oh yeah………VOTE FRED!!
How do they plan to do this? You haven’t said?
Pelosi and Reid said they were going to change alot of things and from what I can see the only thing they’ve managed to accomplish was changing the cafeteria menu.
You can’t make this stuff up…it’s to good!

GO FRED GO!
#27 Condi Rice and Bush lost me with the kiss Pali butt/ excuse terrorism now change of heart. The drones in the State Dept. and CIA are Arabists and it seems have managed to sway Dubya and Rice with the same Clintonian mistakes.
Terrorism is ok if it means some support from Arab nations against Iran? Bad enough that we’ve been endlessly catering to Saudis.
I still think we should have been drilling offshore and in ANWR. Of course the great Sen. McCain cast the deciding vote against ANWR. And we buy into the no new nuclear plants or oil refineries rationale.
Was reading that oil prices will drop dramtically in any case when world-wide depression hits by 2013. http://www.thegreatbustahead.com
Dude says only reason Japan didn’t sink into one was because of their strong export markets. I guess the Fed can always print money and bail out the lenders and poor clueless home owners who only wanted a piece of the American dream. Yes, a $9 an hour should translate into ownership of a $600,000 home if the taxpayers will only help out a bit. Ditto for the economic security of the life-long welfare recipients in NOLA who need to be made better than whole…let’s spend $500k of taxpayer dough for each of them.
Straight talk from the only real conservative on the ticket. Go get ‘em, Fred.
Fred gets it. I think this cartoon says it all.
aj, the link does work.
doesn’t.

lgm, go back up you’re tree.

That would be a big NO on that little and last dig.

If you had been paying attention Fred has answered what he intends to do with frankness. Another interesting fact for those that think Fred was too late. I find it very interesting that while all of those other candidates were out saying vote for me me me …Fred was the first to come out with detailed position papers on all of the issues.
Another interesting thing is that since a few of the candidates have adopted things from those papers as their own.
Just incredible….now who was late?
I saw a new commercial by Marathon the other night, Army, about how they are investing several billion dollars in building a new refinery in Louisiana. That might help us. But, we also need to look at tapping into our own oil sources in the continental U.S., in the Gulf and ANWAR. And, simultaneously, we need to be working on alternative fuel sources.
The only long-term, long-distance acceptable alternative to crude oil and its derivatives is nuclear power. Every other alternative is higher cost, when considering the total cost of fuel creation, consumption and disposal.
Heck, if France can do it, we can.
My guess is that the Baby Boomers will need to go before it becomes a reality; far too much “China Syndrome” hysteria to have a rational conversation about it.
Until then, we need to make common-sense changes. Economize. Invest in high-efficiency refineries. Harvest oil on our own property, rather than buying it from terror states. Doing these three things will provide oil for several decades.
Solar, wind, and hydro power are all good, solid, acceptable local alternatives and should be used where possible. But we should not get caught up in “green” arguments without understanding all of the facts - many of them are less “green” when considering the total energy cycle than the crude oil that currently exists.
Check out this link for Fred’s take on the issues: Here
Many time’s it seem’s when everyone is going south Fred is headed north. No nonsense, straight talker, Now that’s my kinda guy. Get’m Fred
BUY AMERICAN!
VOTE FOR FRED THOMPSON!!
PRAY LIKE THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON IT!!!
& not necessarily in that order.
this is the Fred that I have been talking about, but it is still too quiet, and frankly, no one is listening. No one is showing him. He will never make it to California, and frankly, this country is going to miss out on potentially one of the best chances to have one of the greatest Presidents at a time when we really need a man like Fred Thompson.
It is a shame that this is hapenning, and it brings me damn near to tears to think that this is the truth, but even if people were to start listening to him now, and were to start turning towards Fred the way I have been praying they would…they are still talking to McCain, Romney and Giuliani and Huckabee and NO ONE is talking to or about Thompson on the news. He is was and will be continually ignored. Period.
And it is because of that, I weep for what we are going to lose out on.

You have it about right. Throw clean burning coal into the mix and we would do just fine here.
The fat lady isnt singing yet RetFireman.
Not yet, indeed, AJ. And for the last week, Fred has been on radio and TV several times a day in addition to his numerous campaign appearances.
Fireman,
We can feel sorry for Fred (and ourselves), or we can get off our cans and do something about it.
For me, I’ll be on the phone tonight, long distance to South Carolina, Phoning for Fred. It’s just too damned important not to get involved.
Like I said before, even if Fred is not the candidate, we must sway the Republican nominee by our arguments. And getting those arguments out in the open is the best way to do it.
Marshall, agree on clean coal. See, we’re like freakin’ geniuses here!

Fred has been my man from the very beginning. I never did understand all this fire in the belly stuff. I think it’s because he didn’t go lock step with what all the other candidates did at the beginning and the MSM found a catchy phrase to tag onto him. I’ve always seen the fire and this is a clear example of it. The fire is the ability to stand up for your convictions. Hell, to Even have convictions for that matter and to not be intimidated into speaking those convictions. Thank goodness he is a conservative too. At least we have a choice. A Hunter/Thompson or visa versa ticket would be great. I’d Even be happy with a Thompson/Romney ticket. I just can’t stomach McCain’s liberalism. Thanks Michelle, I know this doesn’t mean your fully on board but it’s a much needed step in the right direction.
I’ve seen Fred more and more often on TV and heard more and more positive chatter about him. I am hoping more folks wake up and see the opportunity we have to elect a man of character and true nobility (or is that no-bull-ity)!
As my daddy used to tell me, “you can hope in one hand and defecate in the other, and let’s see which one fills up first.” (Not a verbatim quote, but you get the picture).
Besides telling the tree-huggers to go play in traffic, and building new refineries, and drilling for oil in our own territory, we need to ensure that the Dems don’t try to impose some kind of windfall profits tax on the energy companies. Not that I’m defending big oil, but they certainly do have the resources to research and develop alternative energy.
When we look back, we can see that the world’s major fuel supply was wood for several hundred years. Then it shifted to coal for about a hundred years. Now it has become oil. Sooner or later, yankee ingenuity will come up with the next generation, whether it’s hydrogen fuel cells, electric cars, or Mr. Fusion personal nuclear reactors. That day can’t come soon enough.
Cadman hit the nail on the head. Easy for Sen. Thompson to talk big now. He’s running 4th in SC…terrible campaign. Likely drops out after SC, along with Rep. Hunter, and we’ll be left with the “Big 4″.
Come On South Carolina..we need a win here….why does Fred show so well here on the blogs and my local radio talk…California… and not so well in the voteing??? Help me out Carolinaians…I want to vote for Fred as a contender…thanks for all your help…
Thanks for the positive coverage on Fred. This country needs Fred and his conservative thinking.
That’s my guy! He deserves a big boost! Comeon guys, all together: Vote Fred Thompson!
You have it exactly right army, in my opinion. We should be spending billions on subsidizing our own oil refineries and oil wells rather than giving it to the Saudis. It’s a matter of national security.
We also have to worry about all those substandard fire hazards that are Chinese-made electrical products and all those substandard health hazards that are Chinese-made everything else.
Time to contribute to Fred’s campaign.
Fred’s stepping up, and that’s a good thing. I hope he keeps speaking his mind.
Seems Fred Thompson has recognized that his popularity goes up folks hear what he has to say.
Very positive segment on FOX News just now very good indeed.
Anyone else think the lack of coverage on Fred Thompson is a form of “payback” from the MSM for not running his campaign all year like all the other media darlings?
Catch fire Fred! Please catch fire! We NEED someone like you in charge!
I dont have a clue DL, but if he wins Saturday they may go on a frenzy like they did with the Huckster (barf) and geez, they cover every single silly dumba$$ thing Hilldabeast does (double barf)
lol, now the coverage of BET apology for Obama drug use, they’re playing the media like a violin…. keeping the drug use out there… say something, it gets played all over then dies a little then here comes the apology….stays out there…. media playin directly into the hands of the clinton mafia.
I believe Fred is the only one of the candidates who says what he means and means what he says. Go Fred…
Better Fred than red or the http://www.freakingnews.com/Obama-Drugs-Pics-41875.aspDEADHEAD
THE very definition of the pot calling the kettle black.
I somehow doubt there will be a conservative Republican who will get the nod. I weep for the Republican party.
Who cares? Will Fred put anti-Saudi plots onto the Law and Order shows?
OOPS
THE DEADHEAD
Fred does speak out on these issues, just because he gets little to no press, does not mean he has not stated his position and offered sound recommendations. He has.
Wake up people. The MSM is picking who they want Hillary to run against. They know she cannot stand up to a real conservative in a real debate. Compare her to the top 3 liberal republican impersonators, and she would fair well, probably win. Compare her over top tax increase initiatives with the sound conservative principals of Fred Thompson and she sounds like a nut case.
When you have a choice between an increase in taxes and government spending, vs secure borders, fair taxes, fair immigration and security. What do you think the people will choose? The MSM knows the answer. That is why they ignore Thompson and keep pushing the liberal republican alternatives.
Fred can win if we support him.
Go Fred
http://www.eia.doe.gov/pub/oil_gas/petroleum/data_publications/company_level_imports/current/import
Did I read this right? Canada?
Nobody can ever accuse Michelle of being poll driven. If so, she would have come around to Fred months ago because that is where the majority of her readers have been.
Welcome to the party, now it’s time to put on coats and go. Too little, too late.
I trust you guys are not misunderstanding me. I am doing everything I can to get him elected. I have not felt so strongly about a candidate since reagan and I was not even old enough to vote then.
We truly need this man. There is no one better that can lead this country, that can be Leader of the Free World, right now, in this day and age, with the enemies we face, with Islam about to make their biggest move yet, with the Left doing the most heinous anti-Americanism this country has ever seen…
Yet the MSM, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC and all the rest, they are not giving him the air time. They are too busy giving it to Obama, to CLinton and tlaking about their foolishness, their fake racism arguments and their petty squabbles. They are too busy talking about the nothing candidacy of Huchabee who has nothing but a fake showing from two nothing peimaries. They are busy blowing smoke up McCain’s bum, and showing how he is leading in California…where if given the chance, a once Reagan powerhouse state would easily go to Thompson.
No my friends, Fred Thompson has been blacklisted in the media. For whatever reason, they are making sure that he is not going to be chosen. This strong, powerful, inteligent man, this man who would take the reigns of this country and steer it in the right direction, that would put us on the course towards the Conservatism of the future, that would kisk Islam in the sack until we could finally get the upper hand, who would no longer take any more crap from these Leftists and Liberals as they slowly insinuate their anti-Americanism into our schols and children, is not getting the respect, the regard that even little insane dweebs like kucinich and Paul have received.
There is a seriously concerted effort to keep him out, and by the time Feb 5th rolls around, it will be too late, I am afraid, and we will have missed our chance…and no matter who the Republican is, I wil throw my entire support behind, but that person will pale in comparison to Thompson, and this country will suffer for it, and we will have missed the best, brightest and quite possibly only chance of turning this country onto the right course for God knows how many years to come.
RetFireman;
I am afraid you are right on about Fred.
The media wants to plant the seed in our minds to pick a loser from the Republican party. They may get their wish.
It scares me to think what our country will be like in a few years.
Regarding oil; How about using those dang illegals to drill in Mexico. They can give us the oil as payback for supporting their own.
Fred has ALWAYS been right every single time.
Some folks want to know why they weren’t hearing his message?

Vote conservative principles and nothing else!
I find it funny that I’ve seen Fred on Fox more latley than ever after I sent them a news tip, a box is located on the left of their main page. I wrote “Here is a tip for you Fred Thompson is running for President not just Romney, McCain and Huckabee.” Not that it got them to give him more time but if everyone did it they might actually give him more time, ya never know give it a try.
Hunter would make a GREAT complement to Thompson. And not just on illegal immigration. (See what is working here.) Hunter is the ONLY one talking about and explaining the egregious exemption in the GATT and current WTO trade agreements, in which VAT is excluded from ‘offsets’. When VAT was excluded back in 1950’s, only France had one. Now 137 countries have a VAT and U.S. suffers unfairly and for no good reason except a severe lack of ‘malkins’ in Congress. See the sad history here.
I call shenanigans. As long as our troops are there and we’re so dependent on their oil (instead of opening the arctic drilling area), all presidents will be dancing the two-step with them. Bush did it more because of his familial and business ties, but basically- we are Saudi Arabia’s bitch (pardon my french).
Fred Thompson has been my choice since before he announced. I cannot understand why any true conservative cannot see he is the obvious best candidate in the field.
As a fifty year veteran of the oil patch, I can tell you that reducing dependence on imports is not as simple as just “drilling in our own country.” Admittedly, we have been undeservedly restrained by eco-freaks from drilling in many promising offshore areas and ANWAR. The truth is the United States is very mature in development of existing production and there are few, if any, unexplored basins with potential to make a dent in demand.
We will continue to find new reserves in previously ignored or unrecognized formations. We continually improve secondary and tertiary recovery methods but this incremental production is minute compared to our total requirements.
Oil shale at current crude prices has become profitable and is probably our best bet for energy dependence.
Obviously, we need to conserve oil and use alternative energy sources when possible and practical but the truth is alternative sources are presently capable of providing only a small percentage of energy needs, are more expensive than oil and some are actually energy negative.
We do need newer, more efficient refineries but will only get them when it is economically viable.
Fred and/or Hunter would be my preferred ticket, and I’m still hoping.
It’s a long way to the general election, but with super Tuesday upon us, like a fly on an outhouse, I may have to settle —- AGAIN!!!!
God give us a freaking CONSERVATIVE!
I had previously complained that Fred was telegraphing his campaign, but on this issue, he got it right. We have plenty of untapped domestic sources of oil, including the continental shelves off the Florida Gulf coast, the California coast and the East coast. Our imports from Canada are from the Alberta oil sands, where the high price of crude has made it economical to extract the oil. Another possible source would be the liquifaction of coal, although the global warming crowd would scream. However, I would rather spend millions for advanced technology than one cent in tribute to global jihad.
In the general election:
I would love to vote for Hunter,
I would like to vote for Fred,
I could vote for Mitt,
I would hold my nose and vote for Rudy,
but beyond that I would vote Libertarian, and let Ms. Rodham take it by default just for the shear entertainment value of the next 4 years, before I’d vote for Señor Juan “Amnesty” McCain or Mike.
Interesting article here for conservatives regarding the Republican Party and selecting the most viable candidate:

For Republican voters who want a “true” conservative at the top of the Republican presidential ticket, please understand that you now have 24 hours to your party’s and America’s destiny.
Senator Fred Thompson, as you know, is the sole bearer of the conservative mantle; more specifically, he is strong on national security and defense; for smaller government; and low taxes and reduced federal spending. He is 100% pro-life and family; stridently against illegal immigration; and a proponent of national sovereignty.
Now is the time for you to make a difference on the battlefield, namely, South Carolina. Senator Thompson has the campaign momentum, yet the time is short. You must sieze the initiative now and press the attack. How? Visit http://www.fred08.com , become a “Friend of Fred,” and use the free “Phone for Fred” system and phone list, to call Republicans in South Carolina.
The most recent polls indicate that 41% of the South Carolina Republican voters are either undecided or may change their vote. Senator Thompson is in a position to win this race, but the race will likely be decided by a few hundred votes. Your critical phone calls to South Carolina Republicans on Friday January 18th, can make the difference in determining whether the Republican Party, America’s only hope for the preservation of the nation, will have the one candidate who can unite the party’s three voting pillars, that is, the Reagan Coalition, of fiscal conservatives; national security conservatives; and religious/social conservatives.
Senator Thompson has been campaigning intensely in South Carolina on both the ground, through his 35 city bus tour, holding 5 or more events a day, talking directly to the voters in person, and in local live radio broadcast townhalls; and across the air waves with excellent media advertising, financed by hundreds of small donors.
Now, the Senator needs your timely and vital support. This is the proverbial “crunch time” or “clutch?” Will you, as a committed conservative, “step up” in the “clutch,” to save your country? The future of the Republican Party, and most importantly, America lies in your hands.
Well said, SheetAnchor. Your efforts on behalf of Fred Thompson are greatly appreciated.
And just so you’ll know, the guy over at Fred08.com who asked if you were in SC is me.
Fred, talk about shafting more holes into “pristine” (getting to hate that holy word!) ANWAR more — please! I’m sick and tired of watching cute pixs of Bambi’s ilk prancing over oil reservers that could save us blood and treasure in a secure homebred energy supply. (think about it; pols would rather let soliders die than crimp Bambi’s lifestyle!) And it’s not just ANWAR alone we ought suck (whose potential’s likely far vaster than studies suggest) but its offshore potential too. Think why the Russians and China are tooth and nail staking out areas in the Arctic ocean. Hello! We don’t need to go tearing down the Rockies for oil shale yet.
