Hillary: She was for Reagan before she was against him…and so was John Edwards

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 19, 2008 07:52 AM

Barack Obama is getting slammed by both Clintons for positive comments he made about Ronald Reagan and the GOP. Hill chastised Obama for saying “that he thought the Republicans had better ideas than Democrats the last 10 to 15 years.” Mr. Purple Fits said his “legs fell out” when he heard about Obama’s remarks.

Wait until Billy Boy reads Hill’s own campaign website. On Dec. 12, 2007, the campaign touted an editorial endorsement from a New Hampshire newspaper chain, which mentioned that Hill had cited Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush among her “favorite presidents:”

It’s the media’s fault!

Oh, and while the Clintons continue fuming about Obama saying something nice about the GOP as the party of ideas, perhaps a reminder of Hillary’s cheerful collaborations with the GOP’s famous generator of ideas would be helpful:

Damned Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy.

John Edwards also piled on Obama for praising Reagan. But guess what? He was for him before he was against him, too. (Hat tip - reader Tony) From last fall’s issue of Foreign Affairs:

We need a new path, one that will lead to reengagement with the world and restoration of the United States’ moral authority in the community of nations. President Harry Truman once said, “No one nation alone can bring peace. Together, nations can build a strong defense against aggression and combine the energy of free men everywhere in building a better future for all.” For 50 years, presidents from Truman and Dwight Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton built strong alliances and deepened the world’s respect for us. We gained that respect by viewing our military strength not as an end in itself but as a means to protect a system of laws and institutions that gave hope to billions across the globe. In avoiding the temptation to rule as an empire, we hastened the fall of a corrupt and evil one in the Soviet Union. The lesson is that we cannot only be warriors; we must be thinkers and leaders as well.

Who is this “we” that Silky speaks of?

Bill and Hillary are neither Left nor Right. They are not liberal or conservative. They are not protectionist or free-trade. They are not populist or elitist.

They are Clintonists. Whatever it takes. They will use and abuse people and ideas with abandon to meet their objectives of being in power. The good and evil that comes from them are just accidental results of their blind quests to rule, to be important, to be in the spotlight.

From their throne they will dole out pardons and decrees, favors and death warrants. They see themselves as royalty trapped in a pablum-consuming world of peons. So they have honed their skills at attaining that power.

If it makes sense to praise Reagan, they’ll do it. If it makes sense to bash someone else who praises Reagan, they’ll do it.

I agree with et (#1). Their techniques, while still effective (see NH tears and planted Ironing signs) are looking a bit dated in an information rich world. Hillary’s biggest risk is that the MSM catches on and it all backfires on her.

People used to say that a black man would never survive as president. I think those days where that was a common thought have passed.

But if Obama won…and Hillary was his veep…(shudder)…the Oval Office would have a Death Row vibe, I would think.

What I like about Obama is his voice, that’s about it. Edward’s is like the pompus high school quarter back that think’s he’s better than everyone else, that you’d like to take behind the bleacher’s and kick the sh!t out of.

If any Democratic nominee was foolish enough to pick Hillary as a running mate and was unlucky enough to win the general election, the Oval Office would have that Death Row vibe, regardless of the race, color, or creed of the president.

The Clinton’s are Equal Opporunity when it comes to removing obstacles from their path to power.

The only interest Democrats ever had in Reagan is: “how did he get elected twice and by such big margins? We gotta figure that out so we can do it too.” That’s it. The rest is all bulljive.

As for Mr. Obama, it would be nice if he would provide some specifics to back up his admiration, some indication that he has some awareness of what the late-lamented Reagan Revolution was all about. It wasn’t about hanging around a black-separatist church or having your media friends break into your opponent’s sealed divorced records to aid your campaign. So what was it? Inquiring minds want to know.

I don’t mean to single out the man, obviously Newt has now shown himself to the world to be as clueless, but I don’t see any need to spare him either.

Your assesment of the Clintons is correct. They will do anything to get in power, because they feel that they are entitled to that power.
The Clintons and especially Hillary show the same character traits as most of the cult leaders of the 20th century.
When you compare Hillary to Jim Jones and Shoko Asahara of the Aum Shinrikyo cult that used sarin gas in the Tokyo subway attacks the similarities are striking. They all have narcissistic personalities. Their sense of entitlement is so strong that they can convince their followers to do anything no matter how unreasonable the idea sounds to those of us on the outside looking in. They can seem kind and caring to their followers, but will seek to destroy those that stand in the way. Hillary has shown this in her behavior many times, (white house travel office is one example). And we are seeing it more and more now that she
sees Obama as a real threat to her.
