The end of Mike Huckabee

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 19, 2008 09:35 PM

Liveblogging…

He’s taking the stage at his Columbia HQ. Huckabee says he just called McCain to congratulate him and thank him for a “civil,” “decent” campaign.

Huckabee slyly attacks Romney by praising himself and McCain for campaigning with “honor” instead of attacking someone else.

Oookay. The sanctimony is oozing like a popped zit. Ick.

The guys at Hot Air are on my same wavelength.

Huck tries to encourage his troops to feel “sheer joy.” Unconvincingly.

Maybe I heard it wrong, but I think he just referred to his campaign in the past tense: “What we had…”

Pep talk: “We didn’t lose tonight. The game ended a little early tonight. The path to the White House is not ending here tonight. We’re resetting the clock…I still believe a year from now…all of you will be in Washington for my inauguration…We’ve got a lot of miles ahead of us…”

Unconvincing. He’s trying to mask his disappointment. It’s not working.

So Huckabee lost our glorious primary here in South Carolina. Yippee! BUT – wait jest one secky – looky looky at who won! The Great American Traitor himself: John McCain!

The implications are sobering and devastating: not only are we looking at a sure loser (John McCain) on the ballot in November, but we are going to be stuck having Lindsey Graham winning another term in the Senate.

Republicans continue to prove that they are the sorry, spineless, unprincipled losers that they really are.

So great, Huckabee is gone. It’s just that what we’re left with is even worse.

The party of losers is working hard to serve up 12 more years of Democrat rule

Katieanne – as MM says, its not a “bash” to call someone on their record.

And I’m calling MM on her record on Fred Thompson. And her lack of personal accountability she demonstrates when she refuses to address her very public and damaging error.

    Facts:

Did she publish a lie from Politico, along with her concurring comments and opinion?

    Yes.

Did she compound the error by letting it stand and refuse to retract it, even when shown it was incorrect?

    Yes.

Did she refuse to address the issue at all (stonewalling) and did she refuse to apologise for the damage her error and earlier refusal caused?

    Yes and Yes.

OK. Now explain how those are the actions of someone who is concerned with accountability for personal actions that harmed someone else through an error, and how they display any sense of honesty and regard for the truth?

Those are the FACTS that cause me to call into question MM’s integrity, and paint her as a hypocrite.

Katieanne, stop being a sycophant, and address the issue:

How do you explain MM’s refusal to retract the hitpiece from politico, or apologize for her error?

Answer that one with facts. Not with more of this immaterial “I like MM stop picking on her”.

MM, all I ask is that hold yourself to the standards you expect of others.

Does anyone have the link to O.C.’s YouTube video where he screams “LEAVE FRED THOMPSON ALONE!!!! HE’S A HUMAN BEING!!!” over and over?

I trust that he’s spamming Politico’s forums too, calling them out for their “dishonesty” as the originator of whatever he’s whining about. I’ll bet he calls the local TV stations to complain when they report sports scores that have his team losing.

    Baghdad Bob, is that you?

Two conservative words for you MM: Personal Integrity.

    Two more: personal accountability.

You seem to be lacking BOTH lately WRT Thompson.

Michelle, by your own standards, you can be called gutless (do not have the courage to apologize for a very public error in the Politico posting) and dishonest (published a Politico lie and never retracted it).

Combine those two attirbutes and you have someone that fails the “integrity” test.

    Why Michelle, why?

Ordinary Coloradian, this is what I was protesting. This is what I plainly responded to, accusing Michelle of not having integrity. I strongly disagree with you. As I stated, if you don’t like Michelle, then go somewhere else, but attacking her personally shows no class on your part, IMO.

I have no problem with disagreeing with people, even Michelle. However, it should be done in an appropriate manner and I took great offense at your insults. Surely you can state your case without going to the lengths you did.

How do you explain MM’s refusal to retract the hitpiece from politico, or apologize for her error?

As for whether or not Michelle responds to your comments, this is her place and she can do whatever she wants. She doesn’t owe you or anyone else an explanation, IMO. Apparently, she doesn’t feel the need to respond to your comments. That’s her right.

BTW, I plan to vote for Fred on Super Tuesday and I have taken no offense from Michelle in regards to Thompson.

Katieanne, stop being a sycophant, and address the issue.

I don’t think I qualify as a sycophant. I did address the issues I wanted to address. I say what I mean and mean what I say. I was just responding to your post, that’s all. In all probability, I will never personally meet Michelle. There is no reason for me to think I would personally benefit from her wealth or influence. Actually, I am doing quite fine because of the hard work of my husband and myself for 30 plus years, thank you. So, I believe you chose the wrong insult to sling at me. Back to the dictionary for you, I guess. :)

Congrats on your 30 years, I’m approaching 25 myself, lasted through several deployments and tours of duty and a lot of hardships. And my son has followed me in service and is prepping for Iraq, possibly in Balad where I was.

That being said, if you wish to continue fooling yourself, and ignoring the basic facts, cherry picking your way blithely to an ignorant position, well, feel free. Its your life and if you want to live it in delusion, you are welcome to do so and I wish you comfort.

And true enough that MM does own this blog.

    However…

She tears into people for lying for political purposes (Huckabee and McCain for example, deservedly so), yet here she she is basically doing the same thing she tears into others about.

Can I not call her out on her hypocracy, in hopes that she will come around and do the right thing? And is it not important at all that someone you apparently trust has shown herself to be capable of utterly callous behavior towards issues of integrity, and the truth? Does it concern you that she is guilty of the same defects she accuses others of? And given that, then one may ask what else is MM lying about that nobody else has called her on?

Surely you can agree that posting a lie, one that HURTS someone materially, especially an anonymously sourced lie, and then failing to remedy the error – or at least apologise for it, is the mark of someone lacking integrity, someone with an ulterior motive or hidden agenda. And the question you sshould ask yourself is: Should you also be concerned about this issue with MM if you value the truth? Or just let the lies lay… Me, I challenge.

An honest person does not put false information out and then let it stand if they have the means to correct it.

One must have the integrity and respect for the truth to go back and correct it, and one must have the basic courage to admit and apologize for one’s mistake (i.e. “take your lumps”). I know this from what Ive been taught and value – letting a material damaging lie stand is a huge mark against a person’s integrity, and compounding it by furthering the lie, and then failing to correct one’s own actions regarding the lie makes it even worse.

As an intelligence analyst, we routinely had to point out mistakes that we had made – Military Intellience is an inexact science at best, as the public has learned since 9/11. The penultimate basis for an intel analyst, other than pure analytical skills, is the integrity to correct himself or herself, and give a good accunting of why and how the error was made, and to do so in a timely manner.

(in case you are wondering what the ultimate basis is: the ultimate is the ability to “get inside your opponents head” and think about things from their side so as to be able to preempt them.)

Truth is terribly valuable due to its scarcity in politics. And as I showed, its not a matter of opinion, its a matter of FACT that MM posted a lie and refused to remedy it.

So no matter how you try to slice it, this is a blot on Michelle Malkin as either a a hypocrite, or lacking in personal integrity in this instance. I do beleive MM has shown no propensity toward this behavior in other instances that I have seen, although my agreement with her viewpoints, especially on immigration/border, may shade me from finding her errors there. That is why her behavior on this is jarring and has me holding onto it liek a pit bull. I want to know why.

I’d stake my solid rep from my years in military service and subsequent service in the Intelligence Community on my words here. Truth is truth, and MM is guilty of furthering a lie, and is apparently lacking the integrity to do the right things regarding this issue.

I guess we agree to disagree. But the facts stand, and in their light MM is not looking very good. And I worry what else will unravel if she demonstrates this sort of lack of integrity in other areas.

And I think we all agree:

God help us if either McCain or Huckabee gain the nomination or presidency.
