Michigan says “No mas” to illegal alien driver’s licenses

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 21, 2008 04:04 PM

Better late than never, Michigan has put an end to driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. It’s a violation of federal law, say state officials.

It is not a federal civil right.

Look for open-borders whining in 3…2…1…:

Starting Tuesday, the Michigan Secretary of State will no longer grant a driver’s license or state identification to first time applicants unless they can prove that they are in the U.S. legally and permanently.

The move by the state is the direct result of a recent ruling by Michigan Attorney General Michael Cox which banned issuing licenses to illegal aliens.

“If you are not here legally or permanently, then we will not issue a driver’s license,” said Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land, at a press conference Monday at the North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center in Detroit.

“From now on we will not accept foreign birth certificates, just passports. No matter who comes in, they will have to go through the proper process and our anti-fraud department will go over documents, which is something we always have done.”

Just for fun, someone should ask Hillary about this at tonight’s Democrat debate.

Er, um, er, um.

You can say that again! It’s not like it’s something every state in the US shouldn’t have declared 50 years ago.

I wonder how the MSM will handle this, a question for which the answer usually winds up being “not at all”.

Slowly the states begin to get it. We don’t really need to build a wall at our border. If the states all say it’s a felony to hire an illegal immigrant and enforce the law, they’re not going to come here. Without a chance to make money there is no incentive to take the risk. Then all we have to watch for are terrorists trying to sneak in.

Read the real story of why aliens are now no longer getting licenses in Michigan and how Terry Lynn Land helped give them licenses for so long until then.
Actually, while Michigan’s GOP Sec. of State Terry Lynn Land may be talking tough now, for the last five years she’s been giving illegal aliens driver’s licenses and they came from all over the country to get them, despite pleas for her to stop issuing them. She was about to start her Spitzer-esque plan to issue special alien licenses, so she is worse than Hillary, who only praised it–didn’t actually issue them herself, like GOP’s Land. Also, involved in this scheme, pan-Islamist Attorney General Mike Cox who allowed this to go on for the last five years. Now, however, he’s running against Land for Governor and wanted to one up her. Neither cares about enabling aliens, as they did so for five years, despite my and others’ please that they stop. Again, read the real story of what happened in Michigan and how Terry Lynn Land helped foment it.

I had to go to traffic court here in Marin County, California, twice last fall (don’t ask ;-) ).

Nearly 50% of the cases involved unlicensed, illegal alien drivers driving without a license. And, of course, none of them speak English so the court had a translator there who was kept busy all day. Let me be clear – 98% of these folks are very, very nice, hardworking people who are just trying make a better life for their families outside of the third world joke that is Mexico.

However, be that as it may, our government – Bush, McCain, Kennedy, etc. – has a long list of obligations that it has disgracefully failed to live up to that I won’t rehash here that have brought our society to semi-chaos.

I find Debbie Schlussel’s comments most interesting. This crackdown on the issuance of licenses is a good thing, but why did it take so long?

Then it occurred to me. If we really are successful in keeping the illegals out, then somebody might get the bright idea to replace welfare with workfare, and force the lifetime wards of the state off their dead posteriors and back into the workforce, doing “the jobs Americans don’t want to do.” Then, they would be too busy working to vote three or four times for the Democrat candidate.

OK, is anybody following my logic here?

Teri was the one that came up with the plan to end the nonsense Debbie:

Only those who are Michigan residents and legally in the United States could get the new license under the plan.

Somewhere along the way, you skipped the ruling by former state Attorney General Frank Kelley.

Cox’s ruling, issued in late December, supersedes a 1995 opinion from former state Attorney General Frank Kelley. Kelley, a Democrat, had written that denying driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants may violate the U.S. Constitution’s equal protection clause. But Cox, a Republican, declared that “there can be no doubt that a rational basis exists for denying driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.”

She sees this as all Cox and Land’s fault but failed to mention the policies were put in place by the longest serving political hacks in Michigan history, Sec. of State Richard Austin and Atty. Gen. Frank Kelly, both Democrats. Things in Michigan sometimes take a little longer. We are still waiting for the economic and employment boom to kick in that Democrat Gov. “Peejz” and “Hannibal”–or should I say, Mike Cox and GOP stooges?–Frank Kelly was attorney general almost a decade ago. It is Mike Cox who has been Attorney General for almost 6 of the seven years since 9/11. And for most of those, both he and Terri Lynn Land repeatedly allowed illegal aliens to get driver’s licenses, despite repeated complaints from me and many others, including the brother of a police office murdered by an illegal alien with a driver’s license. Land even proposed a Gov. Spitzer/Hillary style special license for illegal aliens, which Cox didn’t oppose. They are frauds and did nothing, until Mike Cox decided he for sure was running for governor.

And Cox also refused to prosecute Muslim alien women who defrauded Medicaid to have their anchor babies here. He waited until they left the country, then got warrants for them. The guy is a fraud. And you are fools for falling for it.
