March for Life 2008
Today marks the 35th annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. President Bush is scheduled to speak at a breakfast honoring the march at 9 a.m. Blogospheric coverage at Blogs 4 Life, Mommy Life, Pro-Life Blogs, Polipundit, and The Dawn Patrol.
I’ve noted how biased MSM coverage has downplayed and marginalized the massive pro-life march every year. Don’t expect any less this year.

“In 1969 McCorvey (Jane Roe of Roe v.Wade) was 22 years old, divorced and pregnant for the third time. All she wanted was to get rid of her ‘product of conception,’ but a state law limited her options. Poor and uneducated, she needed help. Who better to turn to then two our lawyers who were ready to conquer the world by giving women the right to control their own bodies? Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee were seeking to overturn the Texas statue that outlawed abortion, and they needed a desperate and beliveable plaintiff…” Here is where McCorvey enters. McCorvey and the attorneys told the court that her pregnancy was the result of gang rape. “So, she ‘needed’ and abortion, and she deserved the right to choose - at least she thought she did. On March 17, 1970, I signed the affadavit that brought the holocaust of abortion into America… I thought I was doing something right; I thought I was doing something good, and I was wrong.” Her lawyers she thought, were there to help her; however, she learned that it was all about her signing on the dotted line.
McCorvey’s life was shrouded by abortion, altough ironically, she never had an abortion. She gave up all three of her children for adoption. She worked in abortion clinics as well until Operation Rescue opened up right beside the abortion clinic where she worked.
McCorvey eventually left her job at the abortion clinic and began working for OR. After her conversion to Christianity she founded Roe No More Ministry in 1997. “The purpose of her ministry is to use her life experiences to spread the truth, specifically shedding light on the lie behind Roe V. Wade.”
Although I cannot be in attendance at today’s march. I am with those who are there in spirit. God Bless them all.
The rector of our seminary reminded us about today being the thirty-fifth anniversary of Roe v. Wade; I’m fasting today for the untold millions of lives that have been terminated for the sake of “women’s choice.”
I’m pretty sure Governor Huckabee will also be in attendance. Thank you both for your staunch support of life!
M.S.M. bias?
If a couple of hundred black guys constitute a “million man march”, then what does thousands of pro-lifers add up to?
As a Christian, I’m very thankful that Mary didn’t believe in abortion.
A threat to democracy according to them.
Tre: The Blessed Virgin Mary is an exemplary role model for all Christians.
Today is my 25th birthday. Since my conversion (both to conservativism and Catholicism) in 2005, knowing I am fortunate enough to celebrate my birth on a day that turned into a death sentence for 48 million unborn children has always weighed on my heart and soul. And I am sorry I ever took a passive, silently-supportive view of abortion.
I cannot partake in the Marches today. But I am with them in prayer and spirit.
Together with my fellow pro-lifers, I am hoping to launch a pro-life coalition that will stand outside the remaining two abortion clinics in my city and show women there are loving alternatives to abortion - and a place ot heal afterward. If you’re in the Milwaukee area and interested, please contact me.
I’d like to start it now, and make next January 22 the official launch of what perhaps could be a national organization.
And, a prayer:
God bless those who defend the most innocent among us.
God heal those women who thought abortion was their only option.
God welcome those innocent children into Your loving embrace and eternal happiness with Your Mother, Mary.
God speak to those who are considering aboriton, and move their hearts to choose life.
God forgive those who devalue life and work to undermine the dignity of the unborn and women.
Englishqueen,
Happy Birthday!
I wish I were in the Milwaukee area.
Proud to say our family (mine and my wife’s) has always taken the side of life even when accidents or carelessness may bring on a small surprise bundle of joy. Life is precious and I pity those that are too selfish and short sighted by destroying an unborn child rather than experience the joys, suffering, love, and worries of parenthood.
Abortion thread and no Rusty? No Rusty telling us Christians it is the “christian” thing to do - abort a baby if it is something you just don’t want? HMMMMMMMM - he lives for these threads.
Michelle, thank you for keeping this in the forefront today. One might think you are a “Blogger FOR Life”!
I wish I could be there. GOD Bless their efforts!
30 pieces -
Thank you!
We can still speak about setting up a sattelite group in your city, you know!
Boomer: You are absolutely right. Selfishness is not an excuse for murder. Having an two X chromosomes does not give you the right to decide who lives and dies.
I think the MSM would label that as a bigoted group of religious zealots looking to interfere with a woman’s right to choose.
Soap:
In the last post about abortion, Rusty and I had a respectful discussion. Neither of us was swayed in our position, but I - personally - do not mind speaking with him about the issue.
Many of us may not agree with him, but I welcome the opportunity to have a rigorous debate. In the abortion debate, I believe discussion plants seeds - if not in Rusty, specifically - then in others, and changes hearts and minds better than shutting them out or shouting them down.
Happy Birthday EQ.
Agreed. I love a good debate - good being the operative word there of course.
Happy Birthday EnglishQueen.
I’m a Southern Baptist. I’m also a father to a 4 year old boy and a 7 month old girl. Looking at them I wonder how any one could want to hurt them, to say nothing of wanting to kill them just because they’re being born at an inconvenient time.
That would be spectacular; however, perhaps in another lifetime (kidding!).
Hold that thought. The oppotunity may present itself at some point. Admittedly, there isn’t much free time in my life right now, with hubby, dog, work and school.
An excellent story I’d like to share:
The sports world recently greeted the news that this year’s Heisman Trophy Winner, Tim Tebow from the University of Florida, was almost a casualty of abortion. Twenty-some years ago he was not the strapping 6’3”, 235 lb. beloved sports hero that he is today. At that time he was a one-inch-long unborn child whose existence, because of an amoebic infection, was defined as threat to his mother’s health. Pam Tebow, his mother, was told by a doctor that it would be in her best interests to abort this baby, and she refused. Her husband backed her up on that generous decision, and seven months later they gave birth to a perfectly healthy boy. Little did they know that twenty years later they would be standing on a national stage with a Heisman Trophy winner giving that magnificent witness to life. The world thanks you, Mr. and Mrs. Tebow! There cannot be a more touching Advent story than this.
I wonder if anyone has ever asked how many potential Heisman Trophy winners abortion has actually killed. The answer is, twelve. Reflect on that a bit as you read further because there is a larger lesson in the Tebows’ witness.
Dr. Brian Clowes, HLI researcher, has examined the data from the 2007 Statistical Abstract of the United States (most recent census data) and extrapolated the numbers of the various professions and categories of Americans who have been eliminated in the wake of nearly 49 million legalized abortions, one third of all Americans conceived since 1973. The following numbers are based on the actual government estimates of the professions represented in America. So then, who have we lost to abortion?
* 2 US Presidents
* 7 Supreme Court Justices
* 102 US Senators and 589 Congressmen
* 8,123 Federal, district and local court judges
* 31 Nobel Prize laureates
* 328 Olympic medalists including 123 Gold medalists
* 6,092 professional athletes
* 134,841 physicians and surgeons
* 392,500 registered nurses
* 70,669 priests, ministers, rabbis and imams including
* 6,852 priests and 11,010 nuns (vocations “shortage”?)
* 1,102,443 teachers (K-12)
* 553,821 truck drivers
* 224,518 maids and housekeepers
* 336,939 janitors
* 134,028 farmers and ranchers
* 109,984 police officers and sheriff’s deputies
* 39,477 firefighters
* 17,221 barbers, and
* 24,450,000…women (the gender of roughly half of all children aborted).
These numbers of course are only the tip of the iceberg. Keep in mind that we get our statistics about abortion from the abortion industry itself which has a vested interest in under-reporting the numbers. Likewise, these categories are only a few of the professions that Americans actually work in and are by no means a full portrayal of the total American workforce. What they represent, however, is the immense human toll that abortion takes on a society. Abortion-promoters present abortion as an exclusively private choice, but thirty-five years of abortion exposes the perniciousness of that lie. There is a social toll that comes from abortion which cannot easily be corrected.
For three and a half decades the feminists have reveled in a misleading “freedom to choose,” and on the basis of that false “right” have eliminated their children and done immense damage to the family as the basic unit of society. Those who respect these sacred realities, on the other hand, have their wives and husbands to grow old with, their children to enjoy and their grandkids to play with and spoil. The love of life, marriage and family never leaves its adherents penniless, lonely or abandoned, and every now and then God throws in a Heisman Trophy just to show the rest of us that it’s all worth it.

Meatpie,
Great post about Tebow - a great young man. Dispells the idea you should abort a “damaged fetus”.
Laura Ingraham just ripped McCain’s sham pro-life stance. She was breathing fire. You go girl!

Today markes the 35th anniversary of a Supreme Court decision that changed America.
Marshall Russ, a good read, indeed. Thanks for the heads up.
I never said that abortion is the Christian thing to do. That wouldn’t make any sense.
There’s no reason to have an abortion debate in this thread. Mrs. Malkin’s post wasn’t a comment on abortion politics or policy. It was meant to raise awareness of the march. I have no beef with that. (Especially since none of the roads on my bus route are being closed off.)
And Happy Birthday, EQ. I take the quarter-century plunge in two weeks. Where do the years go?
I wish I could be there to march with them. Unfortunately, I cannot.
But, I do keep my Pro-Life plate displayed proudly on the front of my vehicle from the Tennessee Right to Life.
An early happy birthday to you, Rusty. I don’t know where the time goes. My son is fast approaching his first birthday. It really flies by.
I relate thing’s to my own experienc’s as you have probably figured out, hopefully this won’t be to long.
When I was 16 thru the age of 18 my friend’s and I were delving into the super natural realm, in hindsight a power that was much more powerful than any of us. I’ve seen the evil side of thing’s and I mean literally I have seen thing’s that would curl your hair and I know as fact that the power of satin and his demon’s exist. At the age of 18 extremly strange thing’s started to happen and later I recognized that satin was trying to physicaly and spritualy destroy me. One night while in my bed starting to go to sleep (and this happened on more than one occasion) I started going into this surealistic transe state, it was very uncomfortable to say the least, this time I had enough and became scared of what I was seeing and feeling, I just wanted to wake up but could not, and then I thought Lord God please help me, I yelled it again saying please God you have to help me, and then it happened, a bright warm light enveloped my body and I could feel the presence of God, He came over me and I was reassured not by word’s but feeling that he would take care of me and save me from myself and satin, he did. The next day I prayed and told God thank you, I know your their for me and I believe that you sacrificed your only son Jesus Christ for my life and my sin’s.
When I was 19 I met my now wife she was so tiny and pretty, I even carded her to make sure she was at least 17 (she looked like she was about 12). We started dating and of course having the big fun.
We had known each other for 3 Month’s when she became pregnant, ooop’s. She wanted to talk to me about having an abortion, I said to her God does’nt allow us to decide who live’s or die’s and what you have in side you is God’s not your’s and if you don’t want the baby then I will take it, but if you decide to have an abortion I don’t want to see you anymore because I will consider you a murderer. She said to me what has god ever done for me, I replied he gave you life and he has given you one of the most precious thing’s to take care of, another life, this child’s life is in your hand’s and if you kill it, it will be as if you turned your back on God therefore he will turn his back on you, but if you decide to keep the baby I want to know if you will marry me so we can live out God’s plan for us. She agreed Thank God cause I don’t know if I would have found anyone else to take my crap. Our son of course was born 7 month’s later, and we will have been married 27 year’s this March.
This is what I have believed since I was 18 and I know the awesome power of God’s hand’s, Many have not experienced this and still believe, God will bless them maybe more than me. Life is the most precious gift and it is not our’s to destroy for any reason. May God bless those who fight for the unborn innocent gift’s to the world and bless those who have been lost.
Sorry it was so long.
Oh, HAPPY BIRTHDAY EQ
Mrs. Malkin included politics when she pointed out the probable lack of coverage by the MSM.
In my opinion, there is never a time not to defend (via conversations) unborn children. You may choose to call them fetus’ in some clinical sterile voice, but you would be wrong by the very fact that there is no humanity in that phrase. Everyone knows the correct choice. It is just some people choose to ignore the correct and go for the convenient.
Think about it, the abortion industry has killed more than the entire current population of California. It’s an astonishing waste of human life and one eventually we’re all going to pay for, if we haven’t started already. If the Civil War was our just desserts for slavery, I shudder to think what’s our karmic comeuppance for the destruction of 48 million lives.
Traveler49,
Agreed. Of all the baby showers I have attended over the yrs… Not a one was deemed a fetus shower. It’s only a fetus when you don’t want to call the baby, a baby.
Happy Birthday englishqueen01
This is a prayer devotion that many of us Catholics do.
For every full year that it is said daily, an unborn child in
danger of being aborted, is rescued.
It was given to me during my 2nd pilgimage to Medjugorje. http://medjugorje.hr.nt4.ims.hr/
Jesus, Mary & St.Joseph
I love you very much
I beg you to spare the life
of the Unborn child
I have spiritually adopted
who is in danger of an abortion.
Amen, Amen.
Blind_Mule, what a nice story. Thanks for posting it, esp. today. And congrats on 27 years of marriage!
Happy birthday (and happy early birthday) to englishqueen01 and Rusty!
Delighted to hear that abortion survivor Gianna Jessen spoke at the San Francisco march this year. What a beautiful young woman–in every sense of the word.
By the way Rusty, this thread was posted in: Abortion
I was just wondering if Hillary or Obama would try to get the Christian Evanglical vote. Have they ever thought of pandering to them? Look how many votes they could get if they took a pro abortion stand. The demos are so much like cookie cutters. They have no ideas except surrender and abortion.
