Thousands march on Washington…MSM yawns

If they were illegal alien activists, they’d get front-page coverage, multimedia packages, and prime time on TV airwaves.

If they were anti-war activists, they’d get front-page coverage, multimedia packages, and prime time on TV airwaves.

They are pro-life activists who marched today to mark the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

You’ll be lucky to see photos like the one above buried somewhere in the back of your newspaper.

Right on the money. You would think that all blacks would be voting republican. Most all blacks that vote as well as black churches are very conservative in their beliefs. I’ll give you three guesses why they vote democrat.

It is interesting to note however that many church denominations don’t condemn abortion. The United Methodist Church (who Hillary is a member of) is incredibly liberal on social issues such as abortion, gay rights, and illegal immigration. Go check out umc.org and read some of their doctrines on social issues. They read like Democratic talking points. Its sickening!

garyt: Unfortunately, people like Peter Singer already believe a born child is not human until the age of one, and that murdering said child should not be a punishable offense.

At the same time, they lobby for laws giving human rights to gorillas. Guess they’ll have to build a Planned Parenthood in the middle of the jungle, then – seeing as abortion is the ultimate human right.

I am not surprised by the lack of coverage. The media is trying so hard to prove that pro-lifers are a radical, small, violent bunch of abortion clinic bombers and backwater Neanderthals that seeing thousands upon thousands – old, young, black, white, rich and poor – march to defend life just fries them.

“Roe vs Wade” is based on the “right to privacy” in the Constitution. Well, I’ve looked for that right, and Constitutional lawyers have looked for that right, and we haven’t found it yet. All of this comes from the 30s when the Court said that whatever they rule is “Constitutional Law”. That’s why they can legislate from the bench today…a far cry from what the Founding Fathers and the individual states wanted.

You’re lucky. Our campus minister is left of center, and each year on Jan. 22 I write a prayer in the prayer book for an end to abortion and “respect for life from conception to natural death”. Usually, prayers are posted in an on-line publication, but mine is either always omitted or changed to read “from birth to death“…

The reason this wasn’t covered in the media isn’t because of some crazy “mainstream bias.” It’s because it isn’t a front page story. The March For Life happens every year. Do you expect a front page story every year?

Illegal immigrant and the Jena protests are all current stories. So they get more press. This is old news and old news doesn’t sell.

Not saying it’s fair, but that’s how it works. If there was a gigantic pro-immigration rally every year the media would start ignoring that too.

    I don’t buy that argument.

There have been dozens upon dozens of protests for immigration and racism over the years – and they always get coverage.

Besides, doesn’t the MSM always argue that “abortion foes” are all little, old, white haired men and women brandishing rosaries with beads of boulders? Or nut case men with bombs strapped to their chests?

How does that gel with the picture above, or this picture – clearly these people do not fit the template of who opposes abortion. These are young women, attractive women – women who’ve lost 48 million of their peers to abortion.

And whenever people show up in the tens of thousands to protest, it *is* a story.

EQ, the LA Times just published an article about pro-lifers skewing younger and younger. You can find it here (but you have to register – it’s free).

I, at one time, was one of those kids. I went to a non-denominational Christian middle school and my 6th grade teacher was an evangelical. Our class was taught to pray for fetuses and to get involved with the pro-life movement and all that. Then one day my mom gently pulled me aside and gave me this big pro-choice speech and converted me to the other side.

The irony of course being my mother is now pro-life.

So, I understand the youth movement pretty well. One nun at my Catholic high school spent all of her free time recruiting students to go to the March for Life. So I know it’s a big deal.

But it happens every year. The media will give it lip service and will try to find new angles, but the same protest every year doesn’t generate the same interest as other issue oriented gatherings.

The Youth Mass we had earlier in the day filled the entirity of Washington D.C.’s Verizon Center. They started turning people AWAY at 8 a.m.

We got there around 7 and were placed in the “upper nosebleed” section as I call it. I can’t find it on the website, but I believe the stadium seats at least 25,000 people.

Therefore, there over 25,000 people alone at the Youth Mass, most of them age 18 or under.

As for the March, I only saw one side of the sidewalk for the majority, but I didn’t even see pro-abortion protesters. Of course, our group didn’t even stick around for long.

By the way Michelle, I didn’t see a March for Life post at HotAir.

Perhaps you could uh, nudge Allahpundit or Bryan a little bit in that direction. Please?

By chance did anyone hear enough coverage on the march to find out about how many folks were able to make it to D.C. and join the event? From the photo, it looks to be a very good sized crowd, compared to all the other ones that the MSM does hype so hard.

Unfortunately the only number I ever hear is ten’s of thousands.

This is my third year as a KoC marshal (the guys in the white jackets) for the DC march (I’m off-camera to the right in the pictue above). This year the crowd was much bigger than last year. Several other Knights, who’d been to far more of these than I, said it was by far the biggest crowd they’d ever seen. I left about 90 minutes after the head of the march reached the Supreme Court building and I could see the solid packed crowd turning up from Constitution Ave. onto 1st St.

There were four pro-abortion supporters waiting at the SC. Considering that last year there were nine if I were a NYTimes reporter I would confidently report that support for abortion has dropped by more than 50%!

A picture of a heart-shaped pot is in the nearly 300 Top Story photos, but nothing from the March for Life.

    Nope! No bias here!

It made A3 of The Washington Post. Right next to the Padilla sentencing.

Of course, it’s pretty close to home so you’d expect it to be featured in a DC paper.
