The Trojan Horse S-CHIP Republicans
Earlier today, I blogged the failure of the Democrat attempt to override President Bush’s S-CHIP expansion bill veto. I linked to the roll call vote, but it deserves a separate post. As covered here extensively last year, the Dems’ push to expand the children’s health insurance entitlement beyond low-income families, beyond children, and beyond legal citizens is a Hillarycare Trojan Horse. Democrats said so themselves. The S-CHIP ploy was a cynical political ploy to try and hold war funding hostage and play election year games. The Democrats said so themselves.
Despite all this, 42 House Republicans sided with Nancy Pelosi and her Democrats to override the president’s S-CHIP veto.
Reader Linda e-mails: “Michelle, please publish name and state of the 42 Republicans that voted with the Dems to override the presidential veto [of the S-CHIP expansion bill]. Signed: 69-yr-old fed up grandmother from Texas.”
Here they are–the Trojan Horse S-CHIP Republicans. Watch for them in November, when the Dems are likely to play their S-CHIP again. Shame on these enablers of Democrat child exploitation. With Republicans like these…

No Texans on the dishonor roll of defectors. Sweet.
I’m glad to see that there are no Tennessee names on the dishonor roll.
I am surprised that some of those states even elected republicans in the first place.
Michelle,
Have you seen Iraq Vets for Congress
I don’t understand the Renzi vote. His district includes a large number of people who live on Indian Reservations. They already have free healthhcare. Who is he trying to bribe?
TexasTiger~
Agreed. But I live in Lloyd Doggett’s district, after I was redistricted out of Lamar Smith’s…
What a surprise, my Congressman is on there. But seeing that Wayne Gilchrest was shown to be the most likely Republican to vote with Democrats (according to a CQpolitics.com study) that doesn’t surprise me.
But now I’ll get to tell the First District voters all about it – plus his two main primary opponents might like to know too. This is a good day to be a blogger.

Guess I am an Independent now…
Reichert WA
I thought the man had more class than that. Guess I was wrong. Is there a corresponding list of Dems who voted against? Maybe we could work out a trade.
but too many from Pennsylvania! The dirty turncoat rats..
Azygos
Renzi has already said he is not running for re-election in 2008 … but I am wondering who is running for his seat … I haven’t seen that yet …
At least Jeff Flake is still standing tall against pork-barrel spending … so we’re not completely ignored …
Two from Florida. Why am I not shocked? As many elderly as we have in this state, I cannot believe they would risk their jobs supporting something the elderly will have to pay for – free health care for children from 18 to 24.
Making a note.
Ouch. That has to hurt. Lamar is still our rep.
Suddenly feeling the temptation to switch to Libertarian again.
Funny these Republicans would be supporting S-CHIP when they could be CUTTING spending and giving everyone a PERMANENT tax cut, which would stimulate the economy.
What horrible leadership by these RINOS.
Noticed Tom Davis of Northern Virginia is one who voted for S-CHIP. His wife just got booted out of the Virginia legislature for being a RINO (voting for all sorts of new taxes but not calling them taxes). What they don’t understand is that conservatives are fed up and are simply not voting in elections, or even voting for the opposition to send a message.
DesertLover,
We also have Trent Franks who has been pretty good. I got to meet him at two different support the troops events.
What’s more ridiculous is that they already passed an extension on S-CHIP that goes into 2009 … so this is nothing but posturing by the Dems … and as usual there are a bunch of RINO idiots that fell into the trap …
Azygos
That’s good to hear …
My Rep. the dishonorable Tom Davis is on the list. What douche bag he has turned out to be. He can expect an email and a phone call tommorow demanding an explanation for his vote. I seldom contribute to campaigns, but I will donate to any Republican that will challenge him!
42 idiots.
I fully expected to see Ms Sonny Bono on the list.
Creep.
I am beginning to wonder just how many Republicans we actually have in the Republican party. The RINO list is ever expanding.
Wake up people. Pay attention to what your representative is doing.
Rep Todd Akin of Missouri is not on the list! He has a stellar voting record on conservative issues and against the onslaught of more “socialism” in the USA.
Unfortunately, Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri co-sponsored the senate version of S-CHIP. When the veto over-ride vote failed, the Demos continued to say “Republicans and President Bush don’t care about children!” Americans DO NOT want a program that will be funded, supposedly, by tobacco taxes and transfer all of the children to a “government funded” healthcare system after 6 years costing billions of $’s in new taxes! Read the fine print! Those Republicans who voted for the “expansion of socialism” must not READ the fine print! Just pass the original S-Chip $’s requested as needed and proposed by President Bush! Aren’t we sick of the obstructionism of the Demos and the Demo’s “frowny-faced” leaders, YET? The tactics of the Demos and wishy-washy Repubs are soooo tiresome!
Let me offer a tepid defense of Dave Reichert, my Bellevue, WA congressman.
Bellevue is due east of Seattle, a very prosperous suburb, and is split almost 50-50 Demo to Repubs. Reichert won a very tough re-election in 2006 after he was brutalized for supporting Bush on about 75% of his House votes.
Although it is demoralizing to see Reichert vote center-left on almost every issue since 2006, the alternative to Reichert is someone who will vote Hard Left on 100% of the issues.
Reichert is a former chief of police and, and earlier, he was widely admired for his leadership of the Green River Murders Task Force. Frankly, he may be the only “Republican” in the state who can win in this district.
MM, Tiberi is from Ohio not Idaho.
Fixed. Thanks.

Yeah, but SENATOR Kay Bailey Hutchison added an amendment to something in December that GUTTED the BORDER FENCE-BUILDING BILL of Duncan Hunter – so we ain’t off the hook down here in Texas, between her and Rick Perry.

WHEW! ME, TOO!
Thankfully Boehner (my rep) ain’t on there.
He’s not been too bad. There’s been lots worse.
I see they are all (just about) from states outside the South.
Quick, somebody let Ryan Sager know.
Here is another Virginian disappointed with Tom Davis. Wolf doesn’t surprise me. Well, it goes to show that our representatives “represent” themselves first. I would like his reasoning for his vote, if he would reply.
I believe the true conservative Republican party is now history.
The damage is done but there are so many people that don’t see it happening. They listen to the MSM and have no idea what is happening to our traditional party.
It’s time for change alright…..party that is. I may become an Independent too.
I just sent the following to my lying backstabbing crapweasel of a Congressman:
Congressman Simpson,
I am extremely unhappy with your recent vote on betraying conservative principles and voting with Pelosi and her gang of tax and spend Democrats in support of the bloated expansion S-CHIP bill rightly vetoed by President Bush. This bloated bill is a major step in moving the country toward socialized medicine giving benefits to family that make enough to budget for healthcare, and adults, while including benefits for illegal invaders already sucking this country dry in undeserved benefits and entitlements. What in the hell where you thinking? What piece of pork has been offered to Idaho to make you cross over to the dark side? Obviously the blood bath of 2006 has not stuck in the little pointed heads of GOP Representatives why seats were lost in the last election. Our government needs to go on a fiscal diet not expand it. I am already livid due to the proposed bailout of irresponsible lenders and buyers for the housing industry and the manipulation of the economy by giving handouts to stimulate it. My family continues to struggle to afford the necessities of life living within our means and you plan to reward those that refused to and over extended themselves. History shows the economy must be allowed to right itself on its own every time someone in government steps in to help it only makes the problem worse or/and takes the economy longer to recover. You Sir have shown yourself to be a big government tax and spend Republican In Name Only (RINO) and have lost my vote in the upcoming election cycle. What else will you sell the taxpayers of Idaho down the river on?
I am not a happy camper right now. Thanks Michelle for bringing this transgression to the attention of the American people. If the RINOs keep this up “there will be blood” come the 2008 elections. No more incumbents!
Looks like a new war between north and south is brewing on the Republican side. Northern Republicans appear to be nothing more then Dem Lite®, the only problem now is that the spread of liberalism isn’t limited to just those states in the Midwest and New England. They now extend coast to coast. Floridians don’t count as southerners since most of them are senior citizens tired of shoveling snow and have migrated south to the retirement communities in FL, which explains why McCain has such influence.
I apologize, that this idiot Missourian is on that list, Emerson MO 8th District, I’m calling her office right now and tell her she need’s to move to the left coast. She’s not my congresswomen but she has just embaresed my state.
Representative Mac Thornberry voted against it, so I called his office and thanked him. Let ‘em know we’re watching them!
Ditto!
Having followed the S-CHIP expansion saga on this site since last year, I was stirred into writing my representative, Congressman Hal Rogers, expressing to him my concerns about and opposition to such a needless measure; in late October, although obligatory and form in nature, the thank-you-for-your-interest letter I received from him reminded me that our representatives will listen to us – if we take just a minute of time to contact them.
Glad to see several of my fellow Pennsylvanians are “representing.”
No surprise there.
