On C-SPAN this morning, I caught GOP Rep. Cliff Stearns chastising impeachment ringleader Dennis Kucinich for offending remarks he had just made about President Bush on the House floor. What did Kucinich say? Click to watch:
Railed Kucinich: “The president and vice president lied and a million innocent Iraqis died…We already know the State of the Union. It’s a lie.” Kucinich says he will introduce articles of impeachment on the day of the State of Union address.

The Center for Public Integrity, in a report, released today has found “The Bush administration led the nation to war on the basis of erroneous information that it methodically propagated and that culminated in military action against Iraq on March 19, 2003.” In short, the president and vice president lied and four thousand of our soldiers died. The president and vice president lied and a million innocent Iraqis died in a war that will cost us 2 trillion dollars while people here in the states are losing their jobs, their health care, their homes, their dignity. Lies are weapons of mass destruction. Lies are also an impeachable offense.
Monday Jan. 28 is the State of the Union. We already know the State of the Union. It’s a lie. We must reestablish truth as the State of our Union. So on that day I will introduce articles of impeachment concering our president.
If impeachment is off the table, truth is off the table. If truth is off the table then this house is living a lie.
The Bible says “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free.” Let us once again be the Land of the Free by beginning the process that the founders understood will set us free and keep us free.

They don’t need to prove anything during an impeachment trial. It’s all political with everyone voting the party line, except for, maybe, a couple of brave souls who still have some integrity. In the Clinton case, it was all political. He could have walked out of the WH, shot someone on the street, and walked back to the WH, and been found innocent during his trial. Reason? The one he shot shouldn’t have been there. Any reason would have worked.

As for the “Bush lied” screed, how come every other country, including the ones selling arms to Iraq, believe that he had WMDs and fully intended to use them, including Saddam?
Bottom line: presidents have to err on the side of caution and work with the best available information at the time, which is what Bush did. And the Congress agreed. He absolutely has to be given the benefit of the doubt, and armchair quarterbacks with 20/1000 hindsight are simply sucking wind with their accusations. They have little to b*tch about in light of the utter success of the surge (which they also fought), so they have to fall back on whatever they can to use as a red herring to hide their own seditious behavior.
