Video: Scarlett and the troops

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 23, 2008 07:30 PM

I linked the other day to photos of actress Scarlett Johansson’s visit with the troops in Kuwait. Reader Ann passed along this video of the USO event courtesy of DVIDS. Enjoy and give credit when it’s due:

Too bad there aren’t more in Hollyweird that support our troops, whether they agree with the War on Terror or not. Way to go, Scarlett.

Its a shame that in Holliwierd. Many of those who oppose conservative thinking feel that by meeting the troops and lifting thier morale means being hypocritical to thier progressive thinking.

Kudos to Miss Jo fof her suppoting the troops with the U.S.O.

I am please she found the time to visit our fighting men and women at the front. I have never watched her any of her movies, and really never really heard of her before this but she has my respect for making the effort.

At least she was able to separate her personal feelings from visiting the troops and raising their morale for a few days … too bad more of these folks can’t do the same …

Try Match Point. A very different movie for Woody Allen.

She just made up for a dozen of the Hollyweirdos.

You know, watching the video, it’s hard to remember that she’s a total Manhattan limousine liberal moonbat. Talented? Yes. Curvy? Duh. Maddeningly unhinged? Her words say it all, but at least she was able to put a cork in her elitism enough to make a good show of it. I wonder if she’ll be smacktalking the soldiers to her acting pals in the private salons safe here at home?

Some people were knocking ScarJo in MM’s previous post about her visiting the troops because she is a liberal but I think what she did was terrific. I’m not asking anyone to like Bush, agree with my views, or believe Iraq was a good idea. But I think we should all at least respect our military and appreciate all they do regardless of ideology.

A few weeks ago, Bill O’Reilly had a story about how the USO couldn’t attract big stars to visit the troops and now one of the biggest young starlets in Tinseltown is doing her part. Good for her and may others follow her example.

It’s a ticket that will unite the country and heal the world (sorry, Obama).

    For President: Gen. David Petraeus
    For Vice-President: Scarlett Johansson

Now, the good guys will win.

Did she go anywhere other than Kuwait?

Not demeaning her trip but I think what O’Reilly was mainly referring to was about “stars” not going into the combat zones … meaning Afghanistan and Iraq … there have been several that have made more than one trip into Iraq … but overall they are few and far between …

At the time Bob Hope first agreed to entertain the troops (prior to Pearl Harbor), he didn’t know what to expect. He soon realized that he will never get a more appreciative live audience. If Scarlett absorbs the same feelings that Bob got, she will be back.

And when they hear her talking on E! in a week or two about how it’s all Bush’s fault and we shouldn’t be in Iraq, how do you think those soldiers who formed a positive attitude towards her will feel then?
My guess is very angry and/or depressed (like they were stabbed in the back by someone they respected), or even worse, they’ll start questioning their own resolve, which can be deadly in that particular environment.
Maybe this trip will change her views about what exactly we’re doing over there, but after a couple weeks with her BDS Hollywood crowd, it’ll be business as usual.

The troops would be better served by a visit from an actress who supports the war. Unfortunately, in today’s crowd, that’s like trying to find a diamond in the septic tank.

She is no Ann Margaret, who adored our troops, but I appreciate her efforts. I just hope that she comes back and makes the talk-show circuit and praise the troops for what they are doing so she can continue to make movies and live her life as a lib.
