Bill Clinton became visibly upset Wednesday over comments by a prominent South Carolina Democrat that compared the former president’s actions on the trail to those of infamous Republican strategist Lee Atwater.
In an interview with CNN’s Jessica Yellin, Dick Harpootlian, a former chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party and a supporter of Barack Obama, said some of Bill Clinton’s recent remarks on the campaign trail were appeals based on race and gender. He said the comments were meant to “suppresses the vote, demoralize voters, and distort the record,” and said they were “reminiscent of Lee Atwater.”
Clinton sharply disputed the charge, and lashed out at Yellin for raising the question.
“You live for this. This hurts the people of South Carolina,” he said. “Because the people of South Carolina come to these meetings and ask questions about what they care about. And what they care about is not what’s going to be in the news coverage tonight, because you don’t care about it.
“What you care about is this. And the Obama people know that. So they just spin you up on this and you happily go along.

No, Mr. Clinton, you live for this. You and Hillary have placed yourselves in this position, one of being up for public inspection; no one is forcing her to run for president, nor are they forcing you to be an active spokesman for her campaign. You have only yourselves and your insatiable greed for power and the limelight to blame.
If Obama doesn’t get the nod, he should run as an independant….that would completely screw the Clinton Power Junta.

Desertlover, checked it. Yes, I expect Chelsea to run for Congress, once she gets out more in the public eye. The democratic party, as it did with Hillary, will pick a state with an overwhelming democratic voting base, no one important running in the primary, and a lot of money available, to put her right up for an easy election. Michelle, watched the show. Very good. You showed some nice poise, versus Kristin, who tried to talk over John Gibson.

it is as though he expects her to get a pass; as though neither he nor she should be held accountable for their actions. What hubris.
Since Bill Clinton is not a “candidate” covered by the McCain Feingold gag rule, there’s no reason why the GOP can’t run ad after ad after ad in the run-up to the general election showing him red-faced, wagging his (um) digit, and lying through his teeth about Monica and every other whopper he’s told. The voice-over need only ask voters if they really want another four years of this.
As much as I detest McCain, an ad like that would send me into the booth to vote for him, rather than endure an American version of Juan and Evita Peron. Or maybe Bonnie and Clyde’s a better analogy.
