I know this sign. Been by there many times. Actually, Clinton (the town) is a very nice place and I own some property in Prosperity.
Saw Bubba the other day in a local restaurant. He was complaining about his veggie omelette because it came with green peppers.

I wonder if Hillary and Bill will want to stand in line at all the socialist gov’t stores when their utopian communism takes place? Again her bud Lenoid Brezhnev and other leaders had special stores where they did not have to wait in line for hours for basic commodities even if they were available.

Actually LGM the LBJ years were prosperous too and thanks to JFK’s tax cut and strong defense measures against the Warsaw Pact. LBJ and JFK did not believe in appeasement and were different from the McGovernite part of the party.
FDR, Truman, JFK and LBJ would be ridden out of the Dem party today … they were too conservative and anti-socialist for the Clinton Mafia …

When the Demos nominated George McGovern I decided that the Demo party had left me and I wanted no part of anything to do with appeasement. I would not be surprized that Hillary would give Alaska back to the Russians after all we bought way too cheap. Hawaii could be independent and the southwest be under Mexico City’s control. What we would have left would be under Islamic law.

If the democrats control both houses of Congress and the Clintons run the White House, be prepared for “changes” they promise. It may take years for this country to recover, if it ever does. The dream of a free nation will have died under the guise of “for the children”, “for the poor”, “for the hard working Americans”, “for those who came across our borders wanting a better life”, and “for global warming.” We’ll become a nation of victims, entitlements, and handouts.

This reminds me of a joke that was going around when Bill was president. It said residents of the town of Laurens were getting up a petition to change the name of the town to Hillary. That way, you would have to go through Hillary to get to Clinton.

I’ve seen the sign (used to live in Greenville, SC). Locals in SC generally pronounce it “Clinnon”–almost as one syllable. Wonder if it’s deliberate?
Clinton took credit for prosperity that had been set up before by Bush, Sr. (which cost him the election) and Reagan. JFK didn’t ride on the coattails of anyone. Remember he was the one with the “Ask not..” speech that would revolt the Democrats today. Also, he was the one, speaking at the Economics Club in N.Y., that called tax cuts, the “Paradox of Economics”. You cut taxes to increase government revenue. He is not exactly a hero of the new Democrats today…though they lie and say he is a hero.
For whom - the Clintons and China?
Its funny that Kennedy was not an appeaser to our enemies like the Mcgovernites that run the demo party now. Its funny too that JFK advocated a tax-cut as well as a strong defense. Would he be a GOP guy today?
The terrorists, the money launderers, and the influence peddlers didn’t fare too poorly during those heady days either.
I live just up the road from Clinton in Greenville. That road sign has to be the most photographed sign in history. We’ve been enjoying that one since 1992. And true, so true, it is.

lgm, negotiation works sometimes, and sometimes not. It depends on with whom you are negotiating. The Soviets may have wanted to destroy the U.S. but not at the expense of destroying themselves. The jihadis will negotiate only long enough to plan the next attack. And they are willing to destroy themselves to destroy us.
We had a similar problem with the Japanese in WW2. The kamikaze were willing to take their own lives for their country. Japan was defeated (and knew it) but refused to negotiate. When the atomic bombs hit, they knew the end was at hand and had to negotiate. So they surrendered.
Saying “Bush won’t negotiate” only shows how little you understand. We were negotiating with the North Vietnamese in 1967. We even agreed to a cease-fire for the Chinese New Year. This allowed North Vietnam to arm and infiltrate. The Tet Offensive started in early 1968 because we negotiated.
Don’t just assume you should always negotiate. And remember, negotiation is best done from a position of strength. Speak softy but carry a big stick. That is the most succinct statement about negotiation. Ever.
It was those missiles that caused the Russians to retaliate by putting missiles in Cuba.
“Retaliate?” The Soviets had hundreds of medium range missiles aimed at our NATO allies while GB and France had at most several dozen nukes to target Russia.
The imbalance was extreme and the deployment of Jupiters to Turkey was a direct response to the Soviet challenge.
The Jupiters were Kruschev’s excuse for deploying missiles to Cuba. The real reason he did was because he thought he could get away with it. He miscalculated, thinking Keenedy a weak sister based on his Vienna meeting.
He was right. But Kruschev didn’t realize that once those missiles in Cuba would have become known, Kennedy and the Democrats would be been in deep political trouble. The Republicans had been warning for months and making big political hay about an offensive build up by the Sovs in Cuba.
There is evidence Kennedy knew about the missiles in September when a Congressman who was privy to a briefing by a CIA officer about activity at the missile sites warned the President at that time that the Republicans would skewer the administration if the Sovs deployed nukes in Cuba.
Kennedy may in fact have been thinking of ignoring the missiles in favor of keeping them secret.
I have driven by this sign many many times. It always gives me a chuckle.
However:
As a native South Carolinian… I have never heard it pronounced in that manner.
