Obama donor Tony Rezko arrested

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 28, 2008 10:14 AM

The Chicago Sun-Times reports this morning that Tony Rezko–Barack Obama fixer and Hillary Clinton photo pal–was arrested this morning on a bond violation.

Obama says he has nothing more to say. Via The Swamp:

The morning after winning South Carolina’s primary, Sen. Barack Obama said he has shared everything that is to be known about his relationship with indicted Chicago developer Tony Rezko.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” the Illinois Democrat and presidential hopeful also answered a series of questions about racial campaigning and his leading challenger, Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Obama was asked specifically about a paragraph in an endorsement in Sunday’s editions of the Chicago Tribune that calls on him to “divulge all there is to know about that relationship.”

The editorial continues: “Until you do, the journalistic scrubbing and opposition research will intensify. You should have recognized Rezko as a political seducer of young talent. But given that you’ve not been accused of any crime or ethical breach, your Rezko history is not a deal-breaker.”

Obama responded by saying there is nothing more to say.

It’s not the end of the story.

Local Chicago news staions report Rezko as a campaign fund raiser for Gov. Blagojevich - no mention whatsoever about Obama or Clinton.

I am surprised its taken this long for Tony Rezko to come to light nationally. I believe that Obama purchased property and built a home on land Rezko(or his wife) sold to Obama.

Rezko has bankrolled numerous Democratic Party politicians in Illinois including Comrade Blagojevich.

One thing about Obama he defended himself regarding Rezko during a Nationally televised debate and not duck the issue like the wicked witch did about Hsu flung doo.

It appears that dirty money or association with dirty people is the mainstay of politicians. Of course none of the lying crapweasels in any political office would get elected without both. So glad McCain – Feingold took care of this issue.

What isn’t said in that article is what violation of his bond he committed that warranted his re-arrest.

Interesting that it happened at this time -

Not to be a conspiracy-nut, but the timing is awfully convenient….

The SC win followed by the Kennedy endorsement, and this guy happens to get arrested?!?

Democrats are starting to open their eyes to the Clintons. Hopefully they’ll see this, too, and more of their antics will come to light.

Nobody in the MSM ever asks Hillary Clinton about her husband’s pardon of one Mansour Azizkhani on Jan. 20, 2001, just hours before Clinton mercifully left the White House. Azizkhani was convicted of making false statements in bank loan applications. This sort of brazen misconduct is what led to the S&L debacle. There is no logical reason why Clinton pardoned Azizkhani. There was no movement to pardon this man. He was not famous and there was no allegation of misconduct in the prosecution or conviction of Azizkhani. So you would think that the MSM would want to know why, ony hours before leaving the presidency of the United States, Bill Clinton is fiddling around with a pardon for an obscure convicted criminal. One thing is sure. The New York Times won’t do any digging.

In this article from 2006, Obama was also giving back money to Rezko..

Obama and Rezko have been friends since 1990, and the Wilmette businessman has raised as much as $60,000 in campaign contributions for him.

After Rezko’s indictment, Obama donated $11,500 to charity — the amount Rezko contributed to the senator’s federal campaign fund.

Gibbs said he did not know whether Obama was considering returning any contributions from Aramanda given his alleged role in the federal corruption cases against Rezko and former Teachers Retirement System board member Stuart Levine.

Aramanda is identified as “Individual D” in Rezko’s indictment. And when Levine pleaded guilty in October, Aramanda again was listed as “Individual D.”

Aramanda was identified by the Sun-Times as “Individual D,” who allegedly received a $250,000 kickback tied to a scheme to steer lucrative state pension deals to firms and consultants that donated to Blagojevich. Aramanda is not specifically named or charged with criminal wrongdoing in the court papers. He could not be reached for comment Saturday.

Aramanda has contributed $11,500 to Obama’s campaigns since 2000, Gibbs said. He gave $1,000 toward Obama’s run for Congress against Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Chicago) in 2000; $500 to Obama’s Senate campaign in 2003 and $10,000 to his Senate campaign in 2004, Gibbs said.

Gibbs said John Aramanda served in Obama’s Capitol Hill office from July 20 to Aug. 26, 2005, during which he received an $804 cost-of-living stipend. Aramanda was one of nearly 100 interns who worked for Obama in 2005, Gibbs said.
