Hastings was indicted for conspiracy to collect $150,000 for giving lenient sentences for some guys convicted of racketeering. Hastings got an acquittal while his conspirator ,one William A. Borders, Jr. was convicted of the conspiracy! Figure that! A panel of federal judges, led by the revered civil rights pioneer Frank Johnson, found that Hastings lied 15 times at trial. His impeachment was supported by John Conyers, no less. But here is where it gets interesting. On his last day of office, Clinton went out of his way to pardon William Borders, Jr. He did over the strong objections of the career prosecutors at the Justice Department. So what the Clintons' motive? Obviously they were thinking ahead to when they might need Hastings and they wanted him loyal. Second, did something else pass hands? Perhaps brother Hugh Rodham come into the mix? I don't know but the MSM won't dig in and find out.
