A reminder of what Code Pinkos did to the Berkeley Marine recruitment center last fall.

The backlash against Berkeley’s anti-Marine, anti-troop measures is building. The American Legion and Sen. Jim DeMint weigh in tonight. Keep it up. Send a message to Berkeley: We’re not in the 1960s anymore.

DeMint to Berkeley: Support Our Marines or Lose Federal Funds

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) released the following statement in response to the decision by the City Council of Berkeley, California to evict the U.S. Marine Corps Recruiting Station from the city.

“This is a slap in the face to all brave service men and women and their families. The First Amendment gives the City of Berkeley the right to be idiotic, but from now on they should do it with their own money. If the city can’t show respect for the Marines that have fought, bled and died for their freedom, Berkeley should not be receiving special taxpayer funded handouts. I am currently drafting legislation to ensure that American taxpayers aren’t forced to pay for this insult by rescinding all of the earmarks for Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations bill, and to transfer the funds to the Marine Corps.”

American Legion:

“Osama bin Laden couldn’t have said it better,” American Legion National Commander Marty Conatser said of the Berkeley City Council Resolution, which tells the Marines that they are not welcome there. “Disgraceful, disloyal, ungrateful. These words are too kind in describing the actions of the public officials in Berkeley, who voted for this disgrace. Nonetheless, our Marines continue to bravely serve and in so doing, allow Americans to spout such foolishness. The American Legion not only strongly condemns this action by the City Council but also believes that a sincere apology is in order to all Marines, past and present.”

Conatser, the leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization, was referring to a measure passed by the Council 8-1 Tuesday, that tells the U.S. Marine Corps that one of its recruiting stations is “not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do as uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”

The City Council marched in complete lock-step with radical anti-war group Code Pink in attempting to drive out Marine recruiters from its San Francisco suburb. The City Council also voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a free parking space in front of a recruiting station, along with a free sound permit for protesting once a week. Marine recruiters at Berkeley have faced harassment from protestors who regularly block nearby sidewalks, generate excessive noise and disrupt business.

“I have been a recruiter in the National Guard and I know that it’s tough duty, with long hours,” Conatser said. “What these recruiters do is essential to our national security. Without recruiters we have no military. And I don’t think we can count on the flower children from Berkeley to protect this nation when it comes under attack. They have to remember that Marines are not the enemy; the terrorists are.”

I agree a 8.0 would do more than devistate Berkley it would be felt in most of California, Oregon and Nevada and would create liquification and possibly Sunami activity. Thousand’s would die in that large of an earthquake, look at what it did to Missouri in 1812 with relativly few people.

Berkeley needs to be made an example of why extreme left wisdom is really a bad idea.

Instead of fighting them – let’s indulge their socialistic money spending habits – the funding of their little warped causes – let’s kill them with kindness.

By way of federal block grants, open public shelters on every other block, with free clinics, needle exchange programs, free food, and food stamps. Relax enforcement of drug possession laws and hand out free birth control parphenalia. Then get the word out to the rest of the country that Berkely is a homeless – drifter – runaway person’s dream location. Local cities would gladly pay bus fare one-way to Berkeley (I know Sarasota would in a minute)/

Then sit back and in six months watch the liberal dream turn into the liberal nightmare.

Watch the Berkely city council squirm to try to decide how to handle the influx of freeloading ‘human pigeons’ and balance it against will of the now enraged local citizens. Oh, don’t allow the national guard to get involved if these’s a riot.

After about a year of this – turn off the federal money grant tap and tell Berkely it isn’t going back on until they allow military recruiters back in the community – without any restrictions or strings attached.

They’ll either have to fund the shelters and such – and raise local taxes – or cut the services – probably resulting in protests and riots.

    Oh – I can dream can’t I?

Sen. DeMint’s bill is a good start, but it needs to be carried further. Why just current earmarks? Berkeley should not get any federal aid if it interferes with miiitary recruiting. Assuming that the State Governmentis patriotic, they also should not get any state aid. But I guess it is accepted that laws can be broken with impunity, just like with sanctuary cities.

I have such anger from the ‘60 and how our brave fighting men and women were treated that I just cannot tolerate the hate from the left attacking our military again.

Bring their public officials on TV to debate their position. Outing themselves as anti-military sets them up for an authoritative smack-down.

Having spoken to many of these radicals at the many anti-war demonstrations here in DC, I can tell you that their arguments are bumper-sticker thin. They are woefully uninformed about the objects of their protest and current events in general. They have no facts to defend themselves and will lose any rational debate. Their political positions are not thoughtfully taken by the radicals, but rather to fit in socially with the other radicals.

Take them out of the radical environment where everyone agrees with every crazy thing they say and bring them into the rational world and they will lose. You hardly need to rebut them. Just let them talk and reasonable people will see they’re nuts.

The time has come for the silent voices of the rest of the Berkley residents to be heard. Enough is enough. Although we can bring a certain amount of pressure down on their collective heads, only the voters of Berkley can change what is going on there.

I too have a number of old friends in the bay area, as well as some relatively new ones that I have had the pleasure of meeting as a result of MMs blog, and I can assure you they do not feel as this absurd City Council does.

    Put the “Tin-Foil” hats away.

Do not stoop to the level of Kos and Huff posters. Doing so makes us no better than them.

It is highly possible that I simply missed it before, but yesterday I actually saw thie story reported on the Fox Report. It was the first time I had seen them present this story. They even talked about the Code Pink BS back in September and the counter demonstrations that were mounted.

Perhaps that helped force the hands of some in the Congress when they saw that report.

I applaud Jim DeMint’s efforts. It is at least a start we have all been calling for. I would also like to know just how much “pork” we are talking about for this one city. It needs to be made public knowledge and broadcast all over the place.

No Pork Today, No Funds Tomorrow

Thank you for putting an end for the calls for earthquakes/bombings/etc of the Bay Area.

Here is an interesting twist to the story:

Even the City Council is not of one voice on the matter.

The vote to award the Code Pink parking spot was 8-1, and the condemnation resolution was 6-3. On Thursday, the polarized emotions that went into those votes had not abated.

“I’m ashamed of my vote,” said Councilwoman Betty Olds, who helped approve the parking spot but not the condemnation. “The protesters should have free speech – this is where Free Speech was born, after all – but to tell the Marines they are not welcome is shameful. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t even go for the parking spot.”

SF, Oakland, et. al are all pretty big places and they’d just as soon spit on a military member as tell them to take a hike. Also, the last time I was in Coronado I heard some people at the Del lamenting the large number of “stupid sailors” in that area and how they “ruined the view”. I realize that not everyone has that view but it just seems to me that these idiots in the Bay Area seem to do everything possible to diss the military at every opportunity.

Tk-421, I think you’re on to something. My husband and his grandfather (WW2 vet) were talking the support then versus now over the holidays. I know a lot are angry but like my husband said, they’e all volunteers now and no one is made to join the military like then. The number of people with an immediate family member in the service is down but at the same time neither one of us want to see a draft come back. I’ve told this story before but I remember before I left for Kuwait in 1990, a bunch of us were watching the news one night. They had these two clowns who had signed up “just for college funds” who didn’t want to go and then there was some Henny Penny type lamenting the “impending draft”. We all said that we didn’t want them there and that seems to be the same mantra my husband and his brothers and sisters in arms still say. However, no matter what the dims say, we don’t feel the love from them and those who are OIF, OEF vets now serving in the dim congress are not liked by us either. They seem to be the 10% that isn’t happy no matter what the military is doing. When I was in there were always those complaining about training and going to NTC without a “war” out there and when Desert Storm came up they complained about being deployed. I don’t know, it’s like every business, organization, etc. they’re out there always ready with a complaint.

Berkeloungers think they have it so bad… see what your free speech rights get you in places like Iran, Venezuela, or North Korea. Not only fun places to commune with totalitarian brutes but spend some time in prisons (or prison camps) as well.

Bereklounger Central and Ithaca, NY are main reasons I do not reside in picturesque, college towns (does having colleges in your surrounding vicinity count?). The most ironic thing of all is college towns (I don’t care who you are) aren’t bastions of free thought anymore. They’re bastions of bigotry and hatred, demanding people accept alternative lifestyles, gays, and reject core values like military support. It’s so fun to use your position as a college professor to indoctrinate vacant vessels like college students (except if you’re a conservative).

Making absurd political/social statements to make yourself unique or special only makes you seem like the moonbats you truly are, Berkelounge. Have you ever tried “supporting” the USA instead of trying to get your free medical marijuana fix from San Fran? In 5-10 years, when it’s full to the brim with crime and they come begging for help, we can ask, “But I thought you didn’t want the troops?” laugh in their faces, and send them back to the craphole.

Once the criminals and Jihadis have basically taken over Berkeley, we can then calmly bring the troops back and raze it to the ground. Then we can build a nice subdivision or something, maybe with a nice shopping area with a Walmart, a Home Depot and a KFC.
