Talk back to Berkeley: Sign the petition; Update: Troop-bashers go berserk, chain themselves to recruitment center; mayor wants to evacuate Marines
Update 2/2 . Internet undercover photojournalist Zombie has fresh photos of the Berkeley siege. Here’s how the anti-troop loons defaced the Marine recruitment center this time:

Update 2/2: The Marine recruitment center in Berkeley is under siege and anti-war zealots are completely unhinged…
As the right-wing blogosphere railed and a U.S. senator vowed financial retaliation against the Berkeley City Council for its effort to boot the Marine Corps out of town, three war protesters ratcheted up pressure from the left by chaining themselves Friday to the front door of the downtown Marine recruiting office.
The demonstrators snapped their locks shut at 7 a.m. and spent the next 7 1/2 hours blocking the door, waving and chanting as hundreds of cars driving by honked in support. Finally, at 2:30 p.m., police snipped the chains and arrested them.
Two of the three were cited for blocking a business and released, and the third was booked into jail on an unrelated traffic warrant, police said.
The demonstrators promptly said they will keep protesting outside the recruiting station at 64 Shattuck Square until the Marines leave Berkeley - which is what the City Council advised the service to do in a vote Tuesday night that called the Marines “unwelcome intruders.”
Oh, I love how the SF Chronicle characterizes bloggers as “ballistic,” and not these nutballs trying to drive the Marines out of Berzerkeley:
The mayor wants to evacuate the Marines and is casting the city as the victim:
Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates offered Friday to help the U.S. Marines leave town by negotiating an end to the lease for their recruiting station, even as he backpedaled on a City Council resolution declaring the Corps “uninvited and unwelcome intruders” in the city.
In the face of an onslaught of pro-military criticism from around the country, Bates, a retired Army captain, also issued a statement that said the City Council’s resolution Tuesday night “did not adequately differentiate our respect and support for those serving in the armed forces and our opposition to the Iraq war policy.” He said he would ask the council to modify the resolution at its next meeting, scheduled for Feb. 12.
A Marines spokeswoman said Friday that the Corps has no intention of abandoning its space at 64 Shattuck Square that has been the subject of protests for months.
In an interview Friday, Bates said he has received more than 1,000 e-mails on the resolution, mostly from “the right wing that has really seized up on this and mobilized to pound us.”
Darn right.

Looks like the Berkeley city website has either crashed or been shut down.

Melanie Morgan e-mails me another update:
Senator DeMint’s staff is reporting that they have been contacted by many other Senators to co-author legislation to strip Berkeley of pork barrel spending totalling over $2 million for the City Council’s outrageous attempts to run the USMC Recruiting office from it’s Shattuck Avenue location.
Senator DeMint’s office is just a few hours away from completing the final legislative draft.
On the Congressional side, Republican lawmakers are hearing from thousands of constituents about the efforts to silence the free speech rights of our troops by running the Marine Recruiting office out of town, and they are rushing to complete their own companion legislation. Move America Forward is urging people to contact Congressional representatives to keep the pressure on.
Senator DeMint has shown great leadership in fighting back against the left-wing, anti-war, anti-troops politicans who populate Berkeley city government and the crazy moonbats at CodePink, International A.N.S.W.E.R., and MoveOn.org who support them.
e have been contacted by Marine groups across Northern California, Cal Berkeley Young Republicans, SF State Young Republicans and a tsunami of e-mails in support.
The MAF petition denouncing the Berkeley City Council crashed earlier today after your blog posting due to the huge traffic surge, plus my appearance on Your World with Neil Cavuto.
We have fixed the problem, and our server is now fully capable of handling the influx.Folks can sign the petition glitch-free now at www.moveamericaforward.com
In addition to marching on the Berkeley City Council on February 12th, the next regularly scheduled meeting, several Marine veterans groups are planning to jump aboard their motorcycles and join us in protest.
Cal Berkeley Republican students are coming, San Francisco State University student Republicans, as well as Joe and Jane Citizen.
Judging from the response to our office, there are going to be a LOT more folks who join in.
Our phones are flooded with people who are insulted, angry, and frustrated at what has transpired in Berkeley, not just in the San Francisco Bay Area, but across the country as MoveOn.org proceeds with it’s incremental strategy to oust military recruiting efforts and undermine support for our military men and women who are the BEST AND THE BRIGHTEST this country has to offer.
MoveOn.org lost the public relations battle to end this “illegal, immoral, unjust war” this summer and they have lost every single vote in Congress since.
The pro-troop side is winning, but we still have big battles to fight.
Watching the back of our miitary men and women is our duty, and our responsibility and our honor.
THANK-YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
Move America Forward’s Melanie Morgan sends word of a new petition protesting Berkeley’s discrimination against the Marines. She tells me: “We will be delivering the petition in person to the City of Berkeley at the next regularly scheduled meeting. Thanks for helping to spread the story of the outrageous conduct and slander against our troops.” The petition is here. The text:
To: The City Council, Mayor and City Manager of Berkeley, California
We, the undersigned, do register our complete outrage with the City of Berkeley for the recent resolutions that criticized our Marines, as part of an effort to harass the Marine Recruiting Center and chase all vestiges of the United States military outside of the city of Berkeley, California.
We take particular umbrage with the instructions given to the City Manager of Berkeley to tell the United States Marines that they are, “uninvited and unwelcome intruders.”
It is shameful for you to attack our military men and women who nobly and bravely serve this nation to protect our security and defend our freedoms and liberties. Those liberties include the right to Freedom of Speech, which you seem to believe should not be afforded to the members of the United States Marine Corps and service personnel in other branches of the Armed Forces.
I call upon you to immediately revoke the resolutions passed that defamed and insulted our U.S. Marines and issue a public apology to this nation, and in particular, the honorable and heroic men and women of the United States military.
If you’re not yet motivated to speak up about this madness, here’s the text of the Berkeley city council agenda with the “Peace and Justice Commission’s” recommendation that led to the resolution giving Code Pink special parking privileges and a free sound permit to protest at the Marine recruitment center:
From: Peace and Justice Commission
Recommendation:
1. Direct the City Attorney to investigate and report back to Council within 60 days on City options for enforcing Chapter 13.28 of the Berkeley Municipal Code, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, with respect to military recruiting offices in Berkeley;
2. Direct the City Manager to send letters to the Marine Corps Recruiting Station at 64 Shattuck Avenue and to General James T. Conway, Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, advising them that the Marine recruiting office is not welcome in our city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders;
3. Encourage all people to avoid cooperation with the Marine Corps recruiting station, and applaud residents and organizations such as Code Pink, that may volunteer to impede, passively or actively, by nonviolent means, the work of any military recruiting office located in the City of Berkeley.

Very happy to sign it.
Will sign it and pass it on.
I’m so glad I’m back in TX (as of 2 weeks ago). I never belonged in the Bay Area and cringed everytime these idiots and those in SF proposed ridding the area of the military, Blue Angels or ROTC. They are crazy, deranged idiots out there that are pushing this stuff. Conservatives are a minority and Melanie Morgan has an uphill battle on her hands. I hope the Lord blesses her.
I can now look up in the sky while in Abilene and see the USAF flying around from Dyess. I can go into the grocery store and be surrounded by our men and women in uniform. And smile. And finally feel safe and secure.
ACTION speakes louder than talk talk talk!
The calls and e-mails are being heard.
Watch with excitement when the city’s Fed.(OUR MONEY) dollars are voted to be recinded by the House and Senate. Thank you Sen. DeMint.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ talk and so does our protest in honor of our Marines.
After only one day of our protest-Councilwoman Olds is already “embarrassed” about one of her voes
Ah, the things government spends its time on in a liberal utopia… Has the word “sedition” already been declared an obscenity by this same city council so the word can’t be used against them?
Done
…Olds is already “embarrassed” about one of her VOTES. (-:
Why do you have to put in your home address and ph #?
Proud to sign it.
Signed.
That was easy. Signed sealed and they do the delivery!!!
Along with my e-mail already sent this afternoon - DONE!
I did receive a response from councilman Worthington, stating that he was one of the ‘no’ votes….
Wonder if he’s getting tired of defending himself…. maybe so - and maybe the next time something like this comes up he’ll stand up even stronger against his cohorts….
Help!
Twice - when I pressed submit to send the petition - page came up stating that site could not be found.
I signed and will pass on. Hope DeMint gets their attention.
We have a memorial at NS Corpus tomorrow for a memorial for three helicopter naval personel killed in an accident a few weeks ago. That church group that protests their hate for our military are scheduled to be there. SO will my husband, retired navy, and myself. The Patriot Guard, VFW, numerous other groups, and private citizens who love our country will be there to also. Texas loves our military and will let that group know it.

CA is out of control!
I’ve just had the same problem with the petition page…what’s up with that?
Also just tried to submit petition, received an error tag.
The petition page keeps crapping out on me.
signed and sent along with the e-mails I sent last night.
error line 65?
Done deal …
as for those having problems …
most likely the submission problems are being caused by a high level of traffic to the petition … overloading the server momentarily … just keep trying folks …
same, error
i realy wanted to sign this too.
No, California is not out of control. The problem is the left leaning liberals, who, with their hands out, keep electing minority candidates who keep paying them back with legislation that keeps rewarding them, which in turn encourages other deadbeats to come into the state, which brings in more liberal votes, etc, etc, etc…! (I’m outta breath.) This isn’t going to change until we get enforcable immigration reform, and politicians willing to take an America first stance. That means the liberal leadership hasto be shown for what it is…corrupt!
Tried 25 times…
If you prefer to email Council members directly, they’re listed here.
Also got error message. Don’t know much about computers but do you think the netroots are hacking it?
tried also no can do…..
Received error message twice unspecified error on line 65.
I had the displeasure of listening to the code stinko ‘B’ on factor radio a few minutes ago, give me a break, lets throw them out of the country!
and whats up with O’Reilly advetising Vermont Teddy bears? pahleeeez, I will purchase nothing from that state.
Will get to petition later. Email to Mayor and coucil already sent.
Soon to be a Boycott Berkeely website. Currently under construction. Will be up and running within 24 hours. The address will be http://www.boycottberkeley.net.
Senator DeMint remains my hero.
ajmontana
agreed … plu I’m buying maple syrup from Canada instead of VT …
After all of the histrionic, hyperbolic vitriol in the Peace and Justice Commission’s recommendation, this text is at the very bottom:
Can you imagine being City Manager in this town?
The P&J Commission also made the following recommendations at the council meeting:
A change in US Drug Policy
Calling out Bridgestone/Firestone to change their behavior in Liberia
Demanding that Arnie bring home the California National Guard from Iraq
and, telling the city of Berkeley to stop buying anything from Chevron because of the environmental damage Big Oil hath wrought
I’ve seen arrogance in my time. I’ve witnessed hubris that would drive the humblest into a froth. But I have never seen a group of appointees from a tiny little city of about 100,000 act as the self-appointed moral conscience, not just for their city, but for their entire country. Incredible.
Just so you know, it looks like there is a vacancy on the P&J Commission. If you live in District 1 of Berkeley, you might consider applying.
If you want some outrage fodder, check out their agenda and minutes links over the past eight years. Contact information for these marginal protectors of peace and justice can be found there, too.
Has anything good ever come from Berkeley?
Yea!!! I can’t wait. The left’s mantra will change back to “Waaa! It’s not fair!” Of course they will still have the “gimme, gimme, gimme!” philosophy.

Yeah, thats kinda what I meant by out of control - but thanks for reiterating my point.
The “Code Pink” spokesperson, Phoebe Sorgen, is also a District 4 member of the damned P&J Commission. I don’t see where she recused herself from voting on the resolution to allow them to have the space to harrass the recruiting office.
The commission’s vote was unanimous with 5 members absent. Code Pinko wasn’t one of them.
The council should be ashamed. The city should be embarassed.
Har!
signed happily
Say no more.
How can we get a final count on the number of signatures?
According to Sen. DeMint, Berkeley gets $2.1 million of your and my $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
ENOUGH
Berkely; you dishonor my Marines and military-you “get nothing”.
How do we write in DeMint for President?
What you stated above is not unique to California….but what we DO NOT need is any new “enforceable” immigration reform. Current immigration laws are more than able to take care of illegal immigration….badly needed are enough politicians who will make certain that the, largely ignored, exising laws are strictly enforced. If this is done, problem solved.
It’ really simple…just do it!!
Kriss Worthington responded to my email. Head over to my blog to read it. I’ll have it up in a few minutes.
Also received line 65 error
I’ll keep trying…
I kept getting the error message, but finally success!
Thanks so much Michelle for putting this on your site. God bless our military.
I tried signing and got an error message.
Petition not working - I keep getting an error message.
Well, no need to blog it after all. Here is what Worthington wrote me. Not what I expected, but I’m happy she is correcting the record.
This is the source of my confusion earlier today - this thread said the vote was 8-1, but an earlier thread indicated 6-3. I’m glad to know there were three brave member on the council!
members*
fourstringfuror
There were actually 2 separate city council votes … one vote was about the Marine Recruiting Station condemnation … the other was about the free Code Pink permits to demonstrate … don’t be surprised if you are getting mixed signals back in your responses …
I got through to the petition the first time I tried. I would say to those who are having problems, just keep trying and you will eventually get through.
I spent a lot of time today following links from here, Drudge and other sites. I took the time to watch the videos and actually read the comments. I have come to a conclusion.
There are a LOT of leftist/socialist/communist wackos out there. It really worries me until I get back to sites like this one where polite debate and conversation is the order of the day. You guys RAWK! Glad to have found you.
You are correct. However, in an earlier thread posted this morning, both votes were reported as 8-1. I guess I misstated that in my above comment, didn’t I? Oy vay - time for a drink.
fourstringfuror
ok … I only saw the 8-1 and 6-3 vote counts … just being sure you weren’t being duped in the responses …
I did not put my phone number in at first and got and error message. When I put it in the petition went through fine. I guess you need to put all your info in.
donnab13
you are correct … the data fields that have the colored background are required before it will accept the information … the other fields are optional … that may be where others are having a problem as well …
I tried several times to sign the petition, but when I hit the submit button I got “Web site can not display the page”
All -
Just keep trying. It took me a few tries to get through. Yes, you do have to input all your information, but it’s primarily for verification. Not that any of us would fraudulently sign a petition!
I had to use a Yahoo browser to get the petition to submit, Firefox was a no go.
Same here, but will keep trying. I bet all the traffic is causing the problem. I will also send this out to everyone in my contacts list. Thanks for the link Michelle. Support our troops!
I set this down with the greatest respect for Michelle:
I’d be very careful about signing this thing, and personally I wouldn’t.
A. What good will it do? It isn’t like the authorities in Berkley will admit wrongdoing and reprimand those responsible. They hate the military and they enjoy engaging in manifest demonstrations of that hatred. This is what they like. They’re into it.
B. You’ll just associate your name as an “inflexible, type-A Rudh-Limbaugh style personality”. Nothing wrong with that, but…..
C. These people really are crazy. They keep lists. They send viruses in e-mails. They believe in hurting those with whom they disagree and in many cases would cheer their deaths. In other words, you’re putting your name on a blacklist for dangerous people for no good reason at all.
Pundits can do this kind of thing with reletive immunity because they have already dedicated themselves and have established a pully pulpit that can help protect them; the excessively wealthy can buy away the problems such an activity can cause. If you are in a position to do neither, there are better things to put your name to.
Better to make your arguement against it clear to the media with a loud voice - yes, naturally that means Michelle too(!) - and push the issue to those who can report the “public outrage”.
Be strong. Be determined. Be a fighter. But be wise about it. Remember what happened to the redcoats as they marched in perfect formation in neon jackets…. right into the Minutemen ambushes. Be a good American. Be smart. Be a Minuteman. Don’t be a Redcoat.
WELL SAID Christian Soldier, or at least get this guy in the next four years.
I sent individual e-mails. They can wade through the server mess for which they begged us, eh?
Now, to the question, “
Chez Pannise is the only thing I can think of. Still, Alice Waters will no longer get my moolah because of the City Council actions.
Check out the home page for the Chamber of Commerce. http://www.berkeleychamber.com/
I sort of feel badly for them.
You don’t want him….. he is doing the United States a good service on this issue, but on many other issues he is just dead wrong.
An FYI for many here that may not be that familiar with the US Marine Corps …
The Corps has 2 bases that are used for basic training … they are called MCRDs (Marine Corps Recruit Depots) …
They are located in San Diego, CA and Parris Island, SC …
So DeMint does have a vested interest with his constituency on this matter …
Not demeaning his efforts … just making sure everyone know the whole story here …
Don’t feel too badly, they’re having a good time stuffing their faces.
My email to Senator DeMint
Senator
More than thirty years ago I was stationed in the beautiful town of Beaufort SC. I was a young Marine from New York and I fell in love with your state and deeply appreciated the hospitably of the locals.
When you compare Beaufort to Berkley it is enough to make me sick. Especially considering the fact that we have supposedly come so far along as a nation with a common purpose.
I applaud your efforts to show the citizens of Berkley who choose to spit in the face of the rest of America while taking our hard earned tax dollars what a true backlash really is.
Semper Fi Sir
and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your courage.
Ah ha! the link worked. I feel better now. Berserkely ESABATM.
DL,
DeMint does have an interest but I have met him and found him to be a man of principle who is a REAL conservative unlike the other SC senator, Graham.
The http://www.boycottberkeley.net site is up in a very basic form.I hope to improve upon it later but it does work. Pass it on to all that might want to sign the petition but can’t get through on this site.
M letter to the Berkley Chamber:
I just want to let you know that I completely support the suspension of any federal funds going to your city.
Just so that you understand something very important.
I support the men and women in the armed forces just like you state that you do.
Here is your statement.
The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce
supports our men and women in the
armed forces and has no control over
actions of the Berkeley City Council.
There is no font that has ever been created that is large enough to express my disgust for your city and your half azzed effort to save face or deflect criticism from the rest of this great nation by using a large font and not posting a position statement.
It looks like it’s time to organize a bake sale and raise 2 million dollars of missing federal funds.
Don’t forget. You are a guest in the United States, and you are not welcome.
trinitytim
Comment was not meant as any reflection on DeMint … saw a question on another site asking why was someone from SC getting involved in a situation in CA …
In case anyone here had the same concern I was just explaining the connection …
Semper Fi Buddy …
RETRACTION! I was dead wrong…. I was actually thinking about Rep Bob Inglis from SC, not DeMint. Inglis is a total tool….. DeMint should run for president…. he is a great conservative and would be a fine commander in chief.

Dear Michelle,
On behalf of all US Marines, past, present, and future, I hereby commend you for your ongoing support of the world’s finest fighting force.
I therefore call on all Marines to petition the Commandant of the Marine Corps to personally award you with the title, Honorary Marine!
To do so, I ask Move America Forward to create another petition so all Marines may sign said petition to be forwarded to the Commandant’s desk as soon as possible.

Makes me wonder, where exactly do these dullards think they’d be if not for the military.
Taken way too much acid and smoked way too much dope.

I mean that in a great way of course.

nyc123me…looks like maybe you were told a 1/2 truth by a liberal…i can hardly believe they would do such a thing.
Thanks Michelle. I’m in.
Signed the petition. Worked first time and did not have to input telephone #.
As for
I don’t think any self respecting conservative should fear signing a petition. Whether online or not. after all, there are such things as virus checkers etc. If they put me on a special blacklist or come to my front door, I will react appropriately to fit the circumstances. I wear my conservatism like a badge of honor.
Amen to that Traveler. I say Bring it on.
Done. One each from my wife and me.
Well, I didn’t do as well as you, JRL. I haven’t heard back from Worthington or any of the others in Berkley.
But, then again, I really didn’t hold out much hope that I would.
I’ve considered foolish, stupid and insane to describe the actions of the Council and Code Pink supporters but I think Childish fits best.

You’re a great American, Traveller. Still, there is no one to complain to who is of any value in this except the usual “conservative” channels, because even the MSM in the area “misprinted” that the vote was 8-1 instead of 6-3, like that wasn’t an intentional misprint to try to give the impression that the vote was almost unanimous.
No, in the fight for conservatism, fighting an insular battle with the Northern California area is just bad chess. They won’t be taken down until someone puts the king into checkmate. You need shame on the part of the recievers for this petition to have any effect, and shame is one of the many things they don’t have.
CODE STINK went swimming today.
From FOX News:
Marin County officials said Friday that 2.7 million gallons of sewage has spilled into San Francisco Bay.
The spill occurred Thursday night in Richardson Bay, an arm of San Francisco Bay that stretches between Tiburon and Sausalito in Marin County.
The extent of the spill’s spread is as yet unknown.
I live about 20 miles from Bezerkly , I avoid the place whenever possible.
Being a conservative who lives and works in the East Bay Area is not the easiest thing to do with respect to politics…. But I was happy to sign the petition.
Some people in this country really don’t know how great we have it here. If not for our military, life would be so much worse.
Happy to sign the petition.
Uhra! Semper Fi Brother’s

Signed, Sealed, Delivered
All signed.
@23 umm…..isn’t that the point of democratic politics….? And call me confused, but how in the hell does a minority group get its self into office. I mean is the politics in CA so devided that even a strong minority fringe group win?
Anyways would sign, but honestly, I don’t think it will do any good, I mean how long has both sides played this game? Hell Abortions used to been preformed under the most needed of situations, now its common place, the Death Penalty was enforced, and Gay relationships, never mind other things had no chance. Pentitions did not stop any of that now did it. I Don’t think it will this time either.
Thank you #61 shimauma2- for your encouragement.
I have been in the political fray for a long time. Statesmen from states other than mine are worthy of my support.
Now it’s time for me to view my favorite ad as seen on OUR MARINES .com
This is the delusion of a wealthy neighborhood, basically supported by the life savings of middle America, assuming that it’s brain power has somehow created an alternate universe of peace and love. the Governator will do nothing. He has also become a moonbat. That is what happens when you are praised all day and night by the MSM, which leads the gullible like a dog. Bush is so incompetent at PR that he does not know this is an opportunity.
Dear Mr. Conservative Cat;
If I ain’t afraid of Palestinian terrorists or any other terrorists who may hit Israel whilst I’m there, I am bloody sure that I am not afraid of a bunch of degenerate hippies from one of the ickiest cities in America.
Bring it on, Berkley hippies. I ain’t afraid of you and your computer viruses.
P.S. This means I signed the petition. I challenge them to show up at my front door in Montana. 10 to 1 says they wouldn’t have the b@((s.
I have never posted but this subject has just outraged me. This is the email that I sent to the Mayor of Berkeley and I hope that each of you will do they same. Email your Senators and Reps and the Presidential Candidate of your choice. Let’s have our voice in this.
Dear Mr. Mayor,
You are correct in your assertions that the wording of your new resolutions were “not clear” and that they give the impression that the Berkeley city government has nothing but disdain for the military. That seemed very clear to me. You, dear Mayor and Council, have forgotten that it is against a FEDERAL LAW to not allow the military to recruit in your city. So, if this was only about peaceful protests, then why give a parking place “in front of the recruiting office”, this more than tinges on harassment. If you want law abiding citizens in your city then your City Council (with your approval) shouldn’t break laws and harass the very people that will be there for your city in case of a disaster and whose brave men and women will help even those that have spit, scorned, screamed, defaced property, and hurled profanities at them.
Personal opinions of only a few of the people on City Council and you yourself should not dictate, nor keep a whole city hostage. This is an all volunteer military, Mr. Mayor, which makes your disdain of them more or less personal. If each individual decides to be in the American Military then they have made an informed choice of their own to do so. They are not being coerced or forced to join, therefore, you are basically telling each individual that they are “unwanted, uninvited guests.” So your statement that you are not insulting or demeaning the men and women of the military is a false statement under any logical argument.
I, as a citizen of the United States will continue to voice my opinion against your new lawbreaking, inconsiderate, unfair “rules” to every Senator, Representative, Presidential Candidate and anyone else who will listen. I will also expect that when I come to Berkeley to protest that I will be afforded my right to have a front place parking spot in front of the City Council buildings, the recruiting office, the Mayor’s office, and the Code Pink headquarters and “free of charge for six months” of sound protesting in front of each. If it is Code Pinks “freedom of speech” rights than it is also mine and every other American born citizen to be given those rights in equal increments.
Also, one last dent in your argument Mr. Mayor, if you and the City Council feel so strongly about your disagreements with the administration and the Military, instead of punishing the individuals who are only serving, why don’t you take those arguments to Congress, to the Pentagon, to the people who can actually change the policies (People, Mr. Mayor, like the Clintons—considering that if was Mr. Bill Clinton that devised the “don’t ask, don’t tell” fiasco)? Do you and the City Council consider it fair to attack people in the low level positions to make your points? People who cannot change policy if they wanted to. This is what makes these “rules” or “resolutions” particularly demeaning to me, sir.
Fair protest is one thing, giving a parking spot to one particular point of view and then sending a horrible message to these BRAVE MEN and WOMEN that they are not welcome is not only not fair, it is beyond the pale.
One guy is bringing his local recruiters lunch next week. I am going to join in and bring lunch to my local recruiters as well. Just a little token of appreciation in light of these nitwits. Just think …if because of them across the country recruiters got appreciation instead. Their plan would have backfired in a way.
BORNIN58, Happy 50th birthday this year!
From a fellow 1958er. I will have to change my name to traveler50 this year I guess.
I do business several times a year in the bay area as an artist. You can imagine the crowd I have to run with there. I usually try to keep my politics to myself when doing business but it is hard at times, and when fellow artists find out I’m conservative they are always shocked. They can’t seem to wrap their heads around the fact that I can be level headed, courteous, friendly, well spoken and artistic. They live their lives in a blue bubble and don’t come into contact with our kind, believing every bad thing they hear about “republicans”. I often view how intolerant they can be while believing they themselves are the tolerant. How can they be so clueless I ask myself. I hope I am not the clueless one. What if they are right and I am the intolerant, war mongering polluter they accuse me of. It is all so clear to me yet it is all so clear to them as well. I think it is very much like a mental disease on their part as Michael Savage espouses. Two view points can’t be at such polar opposites and both be right. And the middle seems to be not able to take a clear stand and have any kind of consistent convictions.
I will now try to get back on topic. Does anyone else notice how good looking all Marines are. Maybe it’s the dress blues or the air they take on when they are in uniform but I have never seen an ugly Marine. How proud and honored I would be to have a Marine recruiting office in my town. I can imagine that at this very moment there is a squad somewhere in the mountains of Afghanistan huddled in the freezing cold, on ambush detail. Ready to lay down their lives at any moment for the protection of us here at home. Even for those ungrateful hippies in Berkeley. What Berkeley doesn’t realize is, they are in the presence of greatness.
To those with activist minds who signed the petition, you may want to e-mail Chris Wallace TODAY at Fox News dot com about his upcoming interview with McCain. Details in a post at the bottom of this page:
http://michellemalkin.com/2008/02/01/mccain-ill-rely-on-people-to-judge-me-by-the-company-that-i-keep/#comments
or the thread entitled:
McCain: “I’ll rely on people to judge me by the company that I keep.”
You’re a patriot, and I won’t argue your decision for a minute. My post was not meant to talk people out of signing the petition, but to give them food for thought on the percentages involved, that’s all.
As someone in the media longer than I wish and in constant contact with all manner of creatives, I’m struck in recent years by 2 things: How unfair it is that conservatives have to “go underground” and hide their affiliations for fear of being like true evil by their liberal counterparts and how much better conservative creatives are then the liberal ones. It’s getting to the point where I can tell a conservative right away: they’re the highly prolific and enormously talented, polite and thoughtful ones. The more to the opposite the individual goes to being the opposite of those collective traits, the more I know that person is probably reading the Daily KOS every day. And I’m almost always right. Think about it.
ha i got thru this morning np,
as far as being on those loons hatelist i hope im on top

i was not a marine just an army leg.
I :salute: all branches of the service, all the males in every generation of my family were ARMY all the way back to George Washington (have a relative that was given 200 acres in Surry, Va. for fighting along side him) so thats where i went, my son is expressing an interest in being a marine tho, and i would proudly have him as a Marine
The thing is, they don’t care. They don’t care about anything “outsiders” have to say about how they are running their city. They don’t care about what they look like to the rest of the country or to the world. The mass delusion that the entire City has, especially the “City Fathers” is one where they all believe en masse that they are better than everyone else.
It is one huge narcissistic problem that they all share. No one can tell them anything, no one can show them where they are wrong, no one can change their ways.
To actually believe that the Marines and other militar are violating anything by being there, by recruiting there…by acting the way they are, telling the Marines that they are not wanted, not welcome etc., is something so unprecedented that I truly think that the only reason nothing has been done about it is two fold:
1. The people who would normally deal with something like this are in a sort of stunned silence, not believing what they are seeing and hearing. They basically may be thinking it is some sort of put on as no one could POSSIBLY be serious about this, especially the entire City Council enough to pass resolutions, laws, etc., in order to get entire branches of the Armed Forces removed from a major Bay Area city during a time of war.
2. It is something so unheard of and unprecedented that there is no rules written, no laws or any other guidelines for anyone to follow because no one throughout history could have ever imagined something like this ever happening. Think about it, before this happened, who would have ever thought, especially after being attacked the way we were on 9-11-01, that ANY American city, especially one so close to San Francisco, a Global Landmark, a guaranteed target for terrorists, in a city which itself is famous enough to garner enough attention to be a possible target, let alone the natural disasters of earthquakes and fires for which the military has assisted in large numbers in the past, would ever even THINK of doing something of this nature.
People would have thought the very idea to be insane, and laughable. It would have been nothing more than pot talk by dread-locked patchouli soaked dope heads in People’s Park during some “Breasts Not bombs” androgenous demonstration, and that would be about it.
So the fact that it has becomne a reality, and to have it become a reality so quickly, I think, has just plain left people who deal with it scratching their heads, still asking each other…”Are they really serious? Are they really still going through with this?”
There really is no easy answer to how to deal with this City. It’s long and tired reputation for Anti-Americanism and breeding people who hate this country, believe in the failed policies and principles of Communism and Socialism, of developing women that hate men and are against children, families, and the natural and traditional way that humans procreate, of treating winos and drug addicts better than they treat their policemen and firemen, is far beyond the help of any protest or petition from any Right-Wing group.
What is needed is some serious legislation from Washington and from Sacramento in order to fix what is severely broken in that city…and in the various other enclaves of uber-Liberalism, COmmunism and Socialism in California. What was once seen as esoteric and rebellious, something to be treated as a curiosity has now turned into something entirely dangerous. The precedents going on in this country over the last 6-7 years have set in motion events that will echo for many years, and our enemies have long memories and have been watching very, very closely.
And that is the biggest problem with Liberals. They believe what they do occurs in a cement bunker, and no one notices outside of their own little world. They still do not realize that their actions and words are being studied and used against us on a daily basis by those attempting to destroy us. Even when the leaders of our enemies parrot them verbatim, they are proud of it and not repulsed as they should be. The longer this goes on, the longer Berkeley and other Cities of their kind are permitted to get away with such things without retribution from Washington, the worse off all of us will be, and the weaker our defenses and military become until finally, one day, our butts will be hanging wide open in the breeze to get shot clean off.
Signed and delivered. Plus, I passed it on to my sibs whom I will be seeing on Sunday. I’ll be pressing them to sign the petition.
ACHefty - I’d sign that petition, if you would allow this simple civvy to join in. I work with and have great respect for the Marine Corps because of these relationships. I’m not dissing the other branches either. All service branches are the best just by the very nature that you have to volunteer to be a part of the best damned military in the world.
Yesterday was unsuccessful even with all info submitted on Firefox. Today was successful on Firefox. It may have been a browser problem…
First, thank you MM for such good coverage of this and helping MAF get the word out. I will certainly sign and petition!
I was reading the recollections of a Vietnam Veteran yesterday. He told of being bussed in vehicles with painted windows when he came home (only to find out later that it was to shield the Vets coming home from the angry and vulgar gestures from the protesters they were sure to encounter). He told of being jumped and beat up to the point of having broken bones by demonstrators. This all happened in the San Francisco area.
The actions in Berkeley of today are nothing new. This has been their mantra for a very long time. My mother always used to tell me to be careful for what I asked for — I may just get it only to find it was the worst thing I could have ever wished on myself. Maybe it’s time for Berkeley to learn that lesson.
I don’t think that anything will ever change their minds though. They have embraced hatred and “bigotry” toward all armed service members. They are close minded and have a value system that dictates their need to remain ignorant and rebellious. It’s their identity.
Any actions we do take are for our beloved Marines, and them alone. We can’t correct Berkeley, but we can show our Marines that they do not stand alone — not only do they promise no Marine is left behind, but there are civilians who pledge the same.
I signed the petition last night and forwarded it to family members.

TK-421, Why aren’t you at your post?
Sorry, it’s the SW dork in me.:)
After many months of oberving here, I am finally making my first post.
As someone who has a libertarian conservative view on issues, I realize that I may be in agreement with many of you on certain issues. That being said this is one issue on that we can all agree.
Bezerkeley is one crazy town and I am so angry I thought my head would explode. Those carbon-based life forms sicken me and are an affront to all decent Americans.
I proudly signed the petition and also sent a letter to my Congressman(left-wing kook Rush Holt D-NJ). The first time I have undertaken either of those actions.
Thanks Michelle and the other bloggers for finally inspiring me to get off my butt and doing something.
this seems a bit long for them to be there, i say max 7 1/2 minutes, whats up with that?
all day? geez.
Has it crossed anyone’s mind that this all may be a put up job? That the Code Pikers, do there thing, the municiplaity casts it as a public nuisance/danger and offers to be the ‘honest brioker’ to resolve the issue?
doh!!!
Paragraph 2
*it should say “I may not be”
First post jitters
Signed it…
In cases like this I am always in favor of police restraint. My philosophy is best described as let them rot on the sidewalk. No food, no water, no sleep, period. You chained yourselves to the door. OK its your choice. Now stay there until you unchain yourselves. What these pantloads deserve is a pantload of aromatic bliss and no police rescue.
Question: With similar circumstances under sharia law what do the police cut? A perfectly good chain or something else.
Now if the Right would mount a counter-offensive every time these whackos started up their Shenanigans I may even come back to the US for a while just so I could take part and be part of a Proud America rather than a lone voice in the desert winds!
I doubt my signing the petition would do any good but it looks like we are on the right track (No pun intended) and a course of action instead of capitulating silence.
Thanks Guys!
Sign me a Proud American
I’d like to get just out of chains reach and take a wee wee on em…..
I LOVE being called part of the right wing (have the same last name of a crazy woman)! God bless our troops - past and present.
