The Vice Presidential prediction exercise
Last night, Wolf Blitzer asked the Democrat presidential candidates if they would consider each other for vice president. Hillary cackled one of her six big cackles of the night.
So did I.
There’s no way in hell Hillary would let Obama near the West Wing. She doesn’t want to have to worry about a second-in-command with his own power base and popular appeal. She needs someone loyal, obsequious, and subordinate to her.
If McCain is the GOP contender, she will also want to burnish her ticket’s military credentials.
And despite her identity politics card-playing last night (Just look at her!), she’s going to want to put an old white guy (the Lloyd Bentsen model) next to her.
My prediction (shudder): Gen. Wesley Clark.
He endorsed her last September. He’s a Rush Limbaugh-bashing, nutroots favorite. He does not threaten her. His anti-war crusading will take the Code Pinko heat off of her. And having run for president once, he’s been “tested” on the campaign trail.
Obama’s pick is a bit more difficult to game out. I think he’d also go for an older “statesman” type to bolster his weak foreign policy/national security credentials. I’m thinking Lee Hamilton. Moderate Democrat. Long resume with experience on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the Iraq Study group, Hart-Rudman Commission, the President’s Homeland Security Advisory Council, and, of course, the 9/11 Commission circus.
What about McCain?
Let’s see. We already know a few of his good friends he’s willing to share his name with: McCain-Feingold. McCain-Kennedy.
Just kidding. Sort of.
Among Republicans, Charlie Crist–a Southern governor, shamnesty sympathizer, and key endorser who helped put McCain over the top in Florida–appears to be a leading contender for the slot. Lovestruck Mike Huckabee’s also angling hard for the job. I’d say the odds are good for the Huckster.
As for Mitt Romney, there’s still a lot of wishing for a Romney-Thompson pairing to give him a pre-Super Tuesday jolt, which I’m afraid just isn’t going to happen. If he’s going to make a Richard Schweiker-type move (the former Pennsylvania senator whom Ronald Reagan chose as a running mate in the middle of the 1976 primaries to give his campaign a boost), now’s the time. But I’m at a loss as to whom Romney’s Schweiker would be.

This is a hugely important choice for McCain if things go as they look.
If it’s Huckabee, then there’s just no way I am going to vote for him. If it’s Thompson or someone else with some real conservative credentials, then there is a chance…
Millions of Christian voters. And they turn out in droves.
Why speculate? Check out what’s happening in the information markets–where people have skin in the game.
At InTrade on the GOP side, the top four candidates are:
1. Rest of field: 35.0
2. Huckabee: 20.5
3. Tim Pawlenty: 20.0
4. Giuliani: 10.6
For the Donks, it’s:
: 10.5
1. Rest of field: 21.0
2. Obama: 20.5
3. Gore
4. Bayh: 10.0
5. Clark: 10.0
McCain takes Humphrey Bogart
Romney takes Bruce Willis
Hillary takes Linda Blair
Obama takes Sammy Davis Jr.
McCain + an inflatable McCain doll
Maybe if someone pushes the right buttons, McCain will get so angry he’ll hold his breath until he blacks out, which wouldn’t be the first time, but unfortunately he started breathing again previously.
The Reagan Schwieker gambit is a precursor to what will happen with McCain’s VP pick and thus far everybody missed it. McCain asks Tom Ridge to be his VP choice. That likely gives Pennsylvania to the Republicans and that locks in a Republican win. The Democrats will have to pull out all the stops to win Ohio to make up for the loss of Pa.
The Clintons can’t pick Obama as their VP. They need a robotic loyalist like Al Gore was to Clinton. Al Gore realized that he was number 3, not number 2 and deferred to both Clintons. Wes Clark, like Shaslikvili, is the type of general that the Clintons like. He is a liberal, never really fought in battle, and is beholden to George Soros. And most of all, if she chooses Clark, the MSM will lionize Clark as if he were the second coming of George S. Patton. It would be impossible to criticize Hillary on national security without the media saying it is McCarthyism.
Whoever picks up Thompson has my vote – period.
If Romney takes Thompson or Hunter within the next 24 hours, then he’s back on top for Super Tuesday. If he waits, then it’s over. We’re stuck without a conservative person to pick from, and here comes the Nanny State to our own front porches.
Romney/Franks
Romeny/Bolton
Romney/Watts
A man can dream…
But I do see an Obama/Biden ticket possible. The clean candidtate and the one with the dirty mouth who has the liberal foreign policy creditials to make Obama look not so bad in the eyes of independents.
LMAO
He won’t have to hold his breath he’ll black out blowing up the doll.
Romney – Col. Oliver North
dream ticket:
Reagan – Col Oliver North….ahhhh…
If McCain is smart, he’ll go for Thompson, if he wants to finish the job of alienating us true conservatives, he’ll pick the Huck.
actually, I take that back…
make my pick for ’08:
Col. Oliver North – Romney
Huckabee is working as McCain’s wingman to drain conservative votes from Romney. This may earn him a spot on the VP ticket, but I think McCain is more likely to pick another milquetoast moderate-to-liberal Republican (Chuck Hagel, Lindsay Graham, Trent Lott, etc.), Mel Martinez to shore up the Hispanic vote, or even Joe Lieberman, now that Lieberman is an Independent. As Laura Ingraham pointed out this morning, McCain’s people loathe conservatives. Like hell they’ll put one on the ticket.
Romney would do well to put a solid, rock-ribbed conservative on the ticket, maybe one with a strong social/faith conservative bent to keep evangelicals from running out the back door. There are plenty of people to choose from in that category.
Another possible VP candidate for anyone: Michael Steele.
As for the Dems, the only way I’d see a Hillary/Obama ticket is if there’s a replay of Kennedy and LBJ in ’60, when Kennedy needed a Southerner and LBJ accepted the VP slot out of spite. Kennedy’s people really hoped LBJ would turn him down because Kennedy and LBJ despised one another. Well, he showed them.
Otherwise, I don’t think Hillary would want anyone to outshine her and there’s no way she’d play second banana to anyone as a VP candidate. So, I think Hillary will go with Gen. Clark or Bill Richardson to shore up the Hispanic vote.
Barack Obama is an unknown quantity. I have no idea who he’d pick if he was the nominee.
Slightly OT, but the New York Sun today reminds us that back in 2007 in a Jonathan Alter interview, Obama was asked whether he would appoint any Republicans in his cabinet. He replied, “No decisions, but Dick Lugar embodies the best tradition in foreign policy. Chuck Hagel is a smart guy who has shows some courage, even though we disagree on domestic policy.”
Hagar On The Loose
As to VP Picks, with McCain’s ego, I doubt he’d go with somebody high profile. Tom Coburn would be an interesting choice. Michael Steele would be a smart pick, especially if Obama is on the ticket, but that falls into the Snowflake-in-Club Med category…
McCain / Verne Troyer
I win.
I actually think that Huckabee would be a good choice for McCain, especially if HRC is the Dem nominee. I would send Huckabee out to give sermons in black churches from now until the Sunday after the election. Huckabee strikes me as the guy that can drive some wedges and twist some knives, all with a smile.
Obama will need to find the liberal version of Cheney. He’s a Johnny Bravo candidate, so he will need someone to pull his strings.
I would kind of enjoy McCain-Graham. I think I’d be able to hear the commenter screams coming through my speakers.
Clinton – Clark
Only makes sense to put voters at ease about the military. (I’m not arguing merits, here, just marketing.)
Runner-up: Bayh
Obama – Jim Webb
Same reason as Clark for Clinton. He has strong military experience and he’ll be viewed as hawkish on destroying al-Qaeda.
Runners-up: Richardson (?) Sebelius(?)
McCain – Giuliani
McCain actually views himself as a conservative, and Rudy is a bit farther to the left. They’ll view that as pulling in moderates and centrists. Rudy will continue to play 9/11 credentials and they will make national security the number one talking point issue. Plus, they’re already playing the vaudeville act in California.
Runner-up: Huckabee (though it would never happen…McCain already views himself as the conservative on his ticket.)
Romney – Huckabee
Broker this deal now, Mitt, and the GOP nomination is yours. Might not help in the general though.
Runner-up: Boehner
I’m afraid you’d be right. But, you have to wonder how dumb either party would have to be to put two U.S. Senators on the same ticket. It hasn’t worked in almost half a century.
Agreed, Tiger. History is definitely agsinst the likelihood of a win.
But, were the Democrats able to muster Clinton and Obama to pair up, I suspect they would have the left going nuts with anticipation and turning out in droves to support, work and vote for them.
One the conservative side, we don’t have anything close to generating that kind of enthusiam in voters running.
Fortunately for us, I think the egos of Clinton and Obama are far too bloated to have to worry about them actually being on the same ticket.
Wes Clark would be a disaster but he has a little under 30 days of combat experience according to Wikipedia
Bernard Kerik made Rudy unelectable as POTUS or VP.
McCain/Crist (if it is once again determined that Florida is the key state to win the presidency) Otherwise, I predict: McCain/Leiberman
Giuliani will pick up a job as Homeland Security or Defense Secretary, etc.
Hillary’s choice of Wesley Clark would be great – for Republicans. Clark was relieved of command, which is the kiss of death for a military officer. General Meyer commented that he would not support Clark due to “character and integrity” issues. Meyer has not expanded on that comment, but just may be forced to do so if Clark is a VP candidate.
J.C. Watts would be an incredible choice for Hillary.
I doubt McCain will be smart in his VP selection. He impresses me as the kind of guy who is threatened by someone he perceives to be his better. The smart move would be to pick someone who is very conservative and differs with his direction on immigration, taxes and social programs. That is not going to happen.
McCain just may reach across the isle for a VP candidate. The idea obviously intrigues him.
Obama is the most liberal candidate in the race, and obviously appeals to the far left. He needs a moderate to insure the moderate Democrat and independent votes. He will look hard at someone from a Southern state or a Western state.
Romney would do well to avoid Thompson. Fred has great conservative credentials, but he has demonstrated that he has no stomach for the big event. Unless Fred lays in a large supply of Red Bull, he is more likely to hinder than help Romney.
If I were in Romney’s position, I would be looking for someone in the Southern or Western states who has military credentials and who can appeal to independent voters and conservative Democrats. I don’t know who fits that bill, but that is the direction I would go. At this point, Romeny would benefit the most by choosing a running mate now.
Why in the world are some suggesting Romney/Hunter after Hunter went with Huck? Goofy! And why Fred, to be a McCain spy? He has no fire in his belly.
Give me Romney/Rice – a powerful ticket. Can you see any democrat in a VP debate with her?
We need a write-in campaign to Mitt to tell him to consider this offer to CR. They would be awesome.
Is there anyone reading these comments with the right contact info to get such an idea as Romney/Rice to Romney or Rice? Michelle??
Condi is not a liberal. She is a Second Amendment “absolutist”. She opposes partial birth abortion and federal funding of abortion. She supports parental notification.
As for international relations: she got North Korea to agree to negotiations on nukes , which they previously considered a “birthright”. Foreign leaders who hate Bush are more amiable to Rice.
She has defended the War on Terror time and time again. She has been in charge of the rebuilding of Iraq’s infrastructure. She has also helped the government of Iraq understand how to govern as a democracy.
She is no friend of illegal immigration. She has pushed Mexico to privatize its oil industry to create jobs .
To see her real record, go to her website. There is a feature on it where you can search all of her remarks, interviews , and speeches by keywords.
I am tired of all these candidates (included B. Hussein Obama) invoking the name of Reagan to gain favor from the voters…how DARE they!
Show me a candidate who has always lived by The Great One’s standards and I will cast my vote in their name.
Meanwhile, I stand by my original suggestion: Col Ollie North. A man who need not invoke the name of Ronald Reagan to earn my vote.
Our website is http://www.thinkcondi.com
We have merchandise, a blog, and volunteer opportunities. We will be mulling around CPAC next weekend.
We have met Romney on a few occasions (shaking hands, photos, etc.). He is aware of our movement.
Jim M
FYI … JC Watts is a Republican … and I can assure you he would not under any circumstances be on either Dem’s ticket …
For those for whom gun rights is a major factor in voting, Minnesota’s Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who signed into law a “shall-issue” concealed-carry permit law, would be a fine VP candidate.
And Gen. Wesley Clark, who publicly came out against such laws during his presidential campaign, would be a very bad one.
So if Obama wins, do the Republicans come back with Rice in 2012?
the reason the left wants mcamnesty, is that it improves their chances of winning. history has shown that senators or congressmen do not win the presidential nod, last time was Kennedy. we pick from VPs and Govenors for a very good reason, they come the closest to having run a large scale governmental office (similar to presidential office) versus the senate staff.
they know they will beat the pants off of mcamnesty. he doesn’t have a chance in hell in winning no matter who is on his ticket. lefts biggest fear: Romney, why? cause he has already succeeded with health care issue and did it in a free market way. their big issue is dead. seems no matter what they will win this year. we will get hillary care or some form thereof; and not to mention high gas prices as they tax and regulate their way to ‘economic’ security for the entitlement lords. we the tax slaves will just have to shut-up and pay.
mcamnesty must have promised guiliani something big or he wouldn’t be making his sickening grin on stage with the terminator and mcamnesty. could be a spot on the cabinet or a veep.
doesn’t matter mcamnesty cannot win. period. so folks keep chattering about duncan, tancredo, thompson or whomever they did not come as close as romney. romney is more conservative than mcamnesty, huckleberry or guiliani. we are not going to win running liberals against liberals. we will have a senator in the whitehouse come next january who will either bring clinton back with the house and senate in their control or obama with the house and senate in his control. if not, then we get mcamnesty (doubtful) who has all his democrat buddies running the show. my guess is, now no matter what Teddy Kennedy will finally have the white house in his control.
hang on to your wallets, folks, it is gonna be a bumpy ride.
LBJ had the last laugh afterall.
I agree with Rusty and this is what I get???
Not this Christian and there are millions more like me. I know you think we are all blind sheep without a brain. No, you have us confused with liberals who worship at the altar of Global Warming or Free Health Care.
Nope. First she’s going to straighten out California. Bold prediction: Governor Condi of CA. After getting CA back on track THEN you’ll see her name on the tix for POTUS…
I think Romney has a decent chance of beating McCain if he would choose the right VP. Actually, he’d have a good chance of beating any Dem ticket too. The primary polls were all skewed from Libs and Dems voting in Rep. primaries. You can’t really use them as a litmus test anymore.
He needs either a woman or minority. I think MNGIRL is right on the money there. Condi would be great, but alot of people don’t like the way she handled the intelligence in Iraq or they think she’s not effective as a foreign affairs ambassador since none of the Middle Eastern despots take a woman seriously (Hillary would have the same problem.)
Romney might choose Mel Martínez from Florida. Unfortunately, Martinez supported (and still supports) Amnesty and ‘No child left behind.’ However it would garner him some hispanic vote, he’d have a minority on the ticket, and perhaps pull some of the McCainers to him since Mel is basically a Hispanic version of McCain (without the Military service.) It wouldn’t help him with the Republicans though.
If Romney really wanted a genius pick, he’d choose Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) From what I hear she’s pretty conservative, she came in 3rd behind Bush and McCain in the 2000 primary straw poll (I think). She’s got the gender thing going on and is very intelligent and politically saavy.
Just a thought.
MrVIBEMAN
Actually I think Hillary would have a more difficult time with those “Middle Eastern despots” than Condi …
There is a big difference in being a Secretary of State and being the President of the United States …
The nightmare pick is Hillary & The JFK Lama i.e. Barak Obama. If Hillary doesn’t pick Obama I think her nuts. If that happens then the conservative movement is headed off to wonder around in the desert for some time especially if McCain wins the nomination and makes a dumb VP pick.
Either McCain or Romney would be best picking Fred.
McCain Huckabee?? sigh
I dread this election
Problems in Latin America started long before Condi became State. You really need to take a look at the WSJ occasionally, folks, Mary Anastasia O’Grady columns in particular.
I supported Steele’s last candidacy with a financial infusion but believe he needs more creds to be viable in the face of the ongoing MSM/Democrat alliance. Nonetheless, lots of potential has Mr. Steele.
As much as McCain grates, the alternatives are much worse. We know the blog population can apply pressure when necessary. When McCain’s in, we’ll need to gird our loins and prepare to lay siege over the long term.
Ms. Malkin,
A slogan I stole from a guy named Bill Fleckenstein is “Often wrong, but never in doubt.”
Here are my VP Predictions:
McCain will pick Giuliani. Yes the conservatives will go nuts, but Giuliani would make an amazing attack dog, slashing Hillary while letting McCain be above the fray. This puts states in play, helps with the Jewish vote in key states, and makes Giuliani next in line in the hierarchy that is the republican party.
Hillary will pick Max Cleland. He has the credentials of Wesley Clark, but his being disabled will appeal to another special interest group. He is almost impossible to attack…a woman and a disabled person.
Romney and Obama are done. Hillary will find a way to destroy Obama at the last second, and Romney cannot get past the hierarchical structure of the republican party. yet, since this is hypothetical…
Romney would pick Haley Barbour to balance the ticket.
Obama would pick Bob Kerrey (despite Kerrey’s earlier comments about him), or again, Max Cleland.
Mike Huckabee and John Edwards have no shot. Thompson wants it handed to him but does not like campaigning.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.
Respectfully,
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express 2/1/8
McCain/Crist
Obama/Webb
Clinton/Clark
Romney/Allen
I think McCain has promised the VP slot to Rudy, not the Huckster.
I don’t think Condi is very popular right now because of her favoring the Palestinians over Israel. She has lost a lot of support over that.
Michael Steele would be good. Fred would be better. It won’t be Jeb because of his last name. I would like it, but it would turn off too many.
Hunter was my Congressman for years and I really like him, but I’m not sure anyone really knows who he is outside California and those who really pay attention to politics.
My first choice would be General Petraeus, but I doubt he is retiring from the military, at least in time for this election.
Watch Huck closely, I’m sure he is seeing the writing on the wall that he’s lost out to Rudy. Not that I think he could set aside his religious bigotry and join Romney, but it would make big big news.
Oh, I forgot. Along with Petraeus, another first choice would be John Bolton.
How old is Walter Mondale, these days?
I’ve heard Gray Davis is looking for work.
Whoa. Why the hostility? It’s no surprise that Huckabee does better with evangelical Christians than any other candidate.
gippergirl, first, calling Senator Obama by his middle name is ridiculous. It makes this conversation dumberer.
And since you’re such a Reagan fan, I thought you may be interested in this post by Ezra Klein. The Reagan that many worship is quite different from the actual 40th president.
A Romney / Rice or Romney / Steele ticket would be very dynamic. One step more – he should consider running a team. Add Gen. Petraeus or Tommy Franks as Sec. Defense and Gingrich as policy wonk or Chief of Staff. Ideas and intellect. Wow.
If McCain did something totally uncharacteristic like pairing with Rice or Steele, I might actually have to consider voting for him. After all, McCain is pretty old…….
I guess it is because it is because all you trolls are alike.
Get the picture?
Gen. Wesley “New York Money People” Clark…he’ll definitely draw in the Nutroots.
Mitt/ Gen Tommy Franks
If one wanted to learn about Ronald Wilson Reagan, why on earth read Ezra Klein – maybe his contributions to those staunch bastions of conservative print like the LA Times and The New Republic or maybe his frequent appearances on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews?
If you’re going to point someone toward a link, please don’t make it an empty link.
Romney ought to name Michael Steele. Lt Gov Marlyland and former RNC chief.
Conservative. Great orator.
And puts the race into the race on both sides.
Do it now.
They would be all over her. She has been a disaster and has completely wiped out the Bush doctrine and successes of the first term. She wants Israel to give up territory and Jerusalem back to terrorists. Israel won the land fair and square (they were attacked and won). If they had lost, there would be no Israel today. Yet, Condi Rice wants them to negotiate and hand land back to terrorists.
Reagan would never have allowed Hugo Chavez to assume power in South America. Yet Condi Rice has overseen Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, and others go completely communist. Yet, she doesn’t care because this is “democracy” for her. She has been one of the very worst secretaries of state.
The worst, though, has been her trying to oust Musharaf, an American ally. She has been pushing for Pakistan to go the way of Iran.
Condi Rice? Why would we want a pro-abortion liberal on a ticket? I specifically remember on inauguration day 2001 her being interviewed and stating that she thought that the Clinton foreign policy had been “terrific.” Enough said.
Has she had any foreign policy successes?
LOL Barry. Dude, are you from the south?
If we’re allowing ex-first ladies in the white house…Maybe McCain will choose Reagan (Nancy, that is) as his running mate to make him look younger!!
Soap Box, take a chill pill. If you take offense to me saying Huckabee has an evangelical base, then you have an extremely thin skin AND you are denying the facts. What do you think Huckabee’s base is?
And Barry F., the post isn’t anti-Reagan at all. It just points out that the Legend of Reagan is different than President Reagan.
Actually, Rusty, it is a terribly skewed impression of Reagan.
For some strange reason, Klein forgets about the 40th president that, not only talked about peace through strength but lived it in his foreign policy, stared down Communism in the Soviet Union, made good on his word with Greneda and quite a few of those other, apparently, insignificant things for Klein that transpired in Reagan’s two terms.
The Prospect is empty print for a thinking person.
Good grief, look at their own description of The Prospect – “Liberal Intelligence“. Oxymoron? If I’ve ever seen one.
Perhaps Klein’s writings just further illustrate the Left’s fear of Reagan and further attempts to take away from who he was and what he did. Maybe?
I say again, I wonder what Nancy was thinking as McCain called himself a “Reagan Republican” at the debate the other night?
Sorry to be off topic.
I still think Mitt has a good chance at it. I just voted for him in the Illinois early primary yesterday. (not that he has a chance here in Illinois, but you know what I mean.)
C’mon, kids, can this debate wait for open mic night?
Who would help Romney for this Tuesday and for November?
Barry F., I can’t locate anyone to complement Romney in the west. Maybe I don’t know where to look.
Rusty, as a dem, who could make Romney formidable, if anyone?
Outside of J.C. Watts in OK, Doug, I am at a loss of help past the Mississippi for him. And, that really isn’t “West” in most minds. So, I am at a loss for a running mate out that way too.
I still think he needs to draw in a staunch conservative from the South to shore up his credentials, preferably with strong military experience.
Michelle said:
Yes, the General was tested on the campaign trail, and I just hope that after Madonna got through slobbering all over him he went to the free clinic to get his other needed tests.
I disagree wholeheartedly with this idea, Rusty. Are you trying to be liberally fashionable? Think you’re cool, punk? Well, you’re not!
I’d love to see Mitt choose Condi Rice as his VP, just for the sheer political fireworks. Also, watching Mitt debate Hillary on experience and the economy, and Condi debating Clarke on international affairs would be a happy wonder to behold.
Idiots. Both sides of the aisle. So, should I include you in his “base”? You have to understand the mindset of some of these “religious” types (that is not to say Christian because they are not the same). If you want to say “religious” persons instead of Christians, you will not get an argument from me.
Example:
Mormons think JESUS and satan are brothers. Christians know that to be untrue. If given a choice between choosing McCain over Romney, I will choose Romney not because he is a “Christian” (he is Mormon actually and the differences are overwhelming) but because as a Christian, I am responsible for my vote and I will vote for the better man – not a Christian over a non-Christian.
Now, my last point about you is, lumping people into categories ticks me off as it should you. lgm is the worst kind of troll. How would you feel if I lump you in with him (which, for the most part, I do not)?
You have had a tendency to lump Christians together as sheeple and, we are not. I think, if you will be honest, you will find that is true about religious people.
Just to make my point MORE clear:
Religious people kill.
Christians lay down their lives for others.
Doug and Barry …
Since you want someone from the “West” you might wnt to check out Jeff Flake from Arizona … a far cry from McCain on virtually every issue …
Request to Michelle:
Could you keep a good, anti-McCain thread going front and center on this board? There’s a definate relaxed feeling in the air; since conservative voices were heard so loudly in the media the last few days, conservatives themeslves seem to feel a little satisfied today, and they shouldn’t. McCain is still the threat that he was 2 days ago, although slightly diminished, which means the conservative chorus of “No Way” has some effect. But we all need to stay on it. Super Tuesday is just a few days away, and everyone needs to keep calling in radio, citing their MCCAIN DISTAIN on blogs and commenting in the comments section of places like the Fox News stories.
JUST SAY NO TO SHERIFF OPENBOARDERS.
KEEP EXPRESSING YOUR DISTAIN FOR MCCAIN!
Many seem to like the idea of Romney-Rice. Have you been following the latter’s appeasing antics lately? Direct negotiations with Iran while they’re killing our soldiers?
Even more gasp-worthy is a recent article in the Washington Times, I think, when she was interviewed while the President was in the Middle East. She said that the mistake with the “Road Map” was that it demanded “sequentiality”, i.e., the Palestinian-Arabs were required to end incitement and violence before there could be negotiations on final status issues.
Now she realizes that was a mistake all along, and they should be negotiating final status issues now, while the rockets are raining down on Israel at the rate of 1000 per year.
Perhaps she’d like to begin negotiations for the return of “occupied” Crawford to its frustrated claimants in al-Qaida.
Put Rice on the ticket, and I promise you I stay home. Same thing if I see Baker(-Hamilton), Scowcroft, Powell, or any of that crowd lurking around advising our nominee. Then there really is no difference.
I predict McCain & Shrillery win nominations and then they toss a coin to see who can be VP and Prez, thus saving the country the cost of an election.
Money saved can go to ammo for folks who want to lessen the pain of a McClinton Administration.
For those looking for a VP running mate from the west, I have the winner:
Tough, a real Non PC type person, won re-election several times and is tough on immigration.
There could be none other than:
Sherrif Joe Arpaio
Again, one can
dreamfantasizeI still would not vote for McCain, even if he picks Thompson. I lost a lot of respect for Thompson when I saw how he handled his campaign and especially after he endorsed McCain. He is a hypocrite in my opinion. Why? How can anyone who had the stances Fred Thompson had ever endorse a person who stand n complete opposition to those beliefs? Answer: Thompson probably did not believe his conservative positions either. So, the only way I will EVER vote for McCain is if he picks Mitt for his running mate. Then I hope Mitt takes over once McCain looses his mind and goes off the deep end from age or whatever. Otherwise, I am either staying home or writing in candidate. I will not change my mind, hope all my other fellow conservatives don’t either. No more selling out and settling for the lesser of 2 evils.
How about Mitt and Powell? Miliraty man as VP. The moderates like him too. Way more of a hero than McCain could ever dream of.
Also, I am so tired of the hero thing and McCain. Where I come form, a war hero is not jsut a poor soldier who got caught and tortured. Sorry for that, but usually a hero is someone who does something extraordinary in a war. I think this should be the standard here. As far as I have read, MCCain did not do anything extraordinary in the war. Just because he WAS a soldier does not make his a hero. Murtha was a marine, I find him reprehensible. And THomas Sowell is right: BEnedict Arnold was a WAR HERO, but he became a trader. McCain, as far as I see it, is a trade to the country and the GOP.
Sheesh, all this “I’ll stay home of McCain is the nominee” is getting tough to stomach. I personally truly can’t stand Sheriff OpneBorders, I never could; right down to that lame vocal immitation he seems to be doing of Reagan every time he’s in front of the camera since 2000. But if you mean you’ll put Hillary into office, Ann Coulter’s incomprehensibly irresponsible rhetoric aside (maybe she and Rush know their audience will increase if lighting-rod Hillary is elected) then you should really be ashamed.
I suppose you who are saying these things realize what Hillary will do to this country with Pelosi and Rein in control of the legislation, and the kind of Ruth Bader-Ginsberg judges she’ll appoint, right? You have thought this out, I suppose. You do know the damage that will be done to this country, right? The fairness doctorine will become law. Kindergarten children will be enocouraged to experiment with their sexuality. The terrorists who monitor our communication on cable and internet day and night will know they have a weakling in the white house, and millions will more likely die from dirty bombs in major cities while America-hating illegal immigrants are given “humanitarian” pathways to freedom that will make John McCain look like Duncan Hunter.
You do understand that your childish, selfish temper tantrums may easily result in the murder of thousands or even millions of your fellow citizens who would not otherwise have been killed. And when you eventually stand before God, having been informed of all these facts before sitting out the election, how will you explain your selfishness then?
I think Romney/Thompson would be unstoppable. Folks criticized Fred and his campaign for many things, but nothing regarding Fred’s beliefs or principles. I think FredHeads would help put Mitt over the top. With Mitt being from the NE and Fred being from the South, they would complement each other nicely.
McCain/Thompson would NOT go over well with THIS FredHeads nor does it appeal to any of my FredHead friends (except one). Fred on the ticket would not cause me to vote for McCain in the primary and I’m a die-hard FredHead!
Huckabee anywhere on the ticket won’t help the candidate. Rudy… I just can’t figure why he “gave up.”
Romney/Thompson for the win!
Maybe we would be better off if the VP was the runner up in each primary – after all they certainly were supported by some folks as opposed to a payoff to some noname.
It would sure light a fire under the candidates – LOL.
Yes and no. There’s a difference between lumping people together and the facts on the ground. Like, you can say Massachusetts people all vote one way. It wouldn’t be true (my dad voted for Bush twice, groan). But, for the intents and purposes of what we’re talking about, Massachusetts is as blue as it gets. So in talking Mass, we’re talking about electoral politics. Not every single voter.
Huckabee has a very strong following in evangelical circles. That’s what pushed him ahead in Iowa (which was a swing state the last two presidential cycles). Obviously a great number of Christians don’t support Huckabee. Many evangelical Christians don’t support him either. But he has pockets of support in the evangelical community. A community that has proven itself to be electoral gold for Republicans since 1980. A group with extraordinarily high turnout.
The reasons not to support Huckabee are numerous. (If I had to choose between any GOP candidate I would pick Romney. Sorry Romney supporters.) I’m right with you there. But some people love him. And you want those people voting Republican in November.
I think Romney has no chance. But, he could go two ways. Either someone with great military experience or someone who will get out that Christian vote (which is harder for Romney than McCain since the former was pro-choice only a few years ago). A George Allen or a Bill Frist. Petraeus would be the ultimate coup.
Has any here checked out the ACU ratings lately? McCain’s is 82 or so life, Thompson’s (picked from a WaPo article) are 86.
Hillary and the JFK Lama are down in around 4 & 6 or so.

I think Mr. Limbaugh expects you to think for yourself. Do you really need an endorsement from him to tell you who to vote for. If Ann wants to vote for Hillary why do you care. She gave a very good reason why. If McCain gets in the Whitehouse the Republicans would spend and erase borders just to go along with “their guy”. If Hillary is elected I see lots of Senate filibustering. That might just be better.
Romney/Santorum
Unimpeachable conservative credential.
He and Mitt already get along.
Becuase it is his (Rick) back door back into politcs
God I hope Romney gets the Nomination… If he does, picking Michael Steele would be a good choice IMO. With the Schism Hillary is going/currently creating with Black Americans (Feeling Obama got shafted by the Corrupt Clintons, and the strain of a rising Hispanic population hurting the black Demographic more than ever)…a black VP candidate might be very attractive..especially for those black Americans who want to get some kind of payback on Her Highness and the band of corrupto-crats.
Look. Mitt has to pull out all the stops, if he’s going to win. If he gets the chance to go up against McCain this weekend on Meet the Press, he needs to take full advantage of it and take McCain to task on his “friends”, his liberal positions, his flip-flopping, etc. He needs to quit worrying about the smiling into the camera, etc. It is crunch time.
I would like to see JC Watts, a fellow Okie, get back into national politics and suck some of the wind out of Obama.
Agreed. As it stands – not many are giving him a chance to survive past this Tuesday. Add to that the level of dislike between him and McCain, and I hardly doubt that he would ever make a plea or even accept a spot in a potential McCain administration.
That said – what has he got to lose? He needs to stand up and say, “You may not like me for saying this, but here’s the truth from my perspective about John McCain” – and the proceed to call him out on all his non-conservative flaws, each and every one of them.
It may not win him the nomination – but it will damn sure draw some cheers from a lot of us.
There are rumors flying in SC that Lindsey Graham will either be McCain’s VP or Attorney General.
Obviously – Huckabee is playing for McCain’s VP spot … wonder if this attack-dog approach has been pre-arranged or if he’s just sucking up in the hopes it works?
Gen. Clark shows that even my esteemed USMA (West Point) can make mistakes.
That’s what a lack of sleep does. I meant Harold Ford, Jr.

ahhh .. now it makes sense …
Mr_Conservative_Cat, you are a great American!
Mr. Conservative Cat,
It is Disdain with a “d” not distain. I am saying this out of respect so that you do not go on other sites and look foolish.
I totally disagree with you about McCain, but respect you as a voice of reason in terms of supporting him over Hillary if those are the choices.
Staying home or voting democrat or 3rd party is far worse.
Respectfully,
eric aka the Tygrrrr Express
Dream Republican VP? Sarah Palin.
Because whom ever get’s the nomination all the endorsment’s and back stabbing go out the window and the love fest will begin, all will talk about the nominee as if they have supported him or her from the start, mark my words you will here “The X party has come together to elect the best candidate for POTUS and that is our candidate”
I happen to like Condi Rice, but her time at State has compromised her a great deal. The biggest reason I wouldn’t ask her to be VP is because when the Dems screech about Bush they reveal their BDS and look nutty, but having Rice on the ticket opens the door to forcing Romney/Rice to defend every idiotic Bush move, and BDS would be in full force and a central focus of the general election.
Thank you. I’ve been reading your posts and you are a great American!
KEEP EXPRESSING YOUR DISDAIN FOR MCCAIN!
Eric,
I appreciate the spelling correction and your apparent concern for my welfare. Besides the more apparent typos, it is a fact that when writing quickly, which I do as a matter of necessity as I’m gigantically busy, I often spell things phonetically instead of correctly. I’m not quite so concerned about appearing foolish due to misspellings, however, since in the world in which I live, substance trumps appearance – which is why I am absolutely against John McCain getting the nomination of the Republican party.
No recent Republican candidate has been so shamelessly, aggressively untruthful in the face of his own record. None so disdainful of humility, smiling and bowing when accepting accolades of war hero status when knowing full well that thousands others whose names we’ll never know are more deserving; men who gave a limb while saving their brothers, sometimes many brothers; men who faced critical odds and certain death defending this country and its people and by only the grace of God came home to modestly blend back in with their neighbors and families while McCain orders his propaganda ministers to paint his poor piloting and capture as something which elevates him among the common man. No recent Republican President has been so disdainful of the will of the majority that put him into office while compromising their core beliefs in a series of back-room-deals with the extremists who would ruin all that is great about America – a heinous and unconscionable series of actions he uses to arrogant self-aggrandizement with the word “Maverick”.
There are no adjectives which adequately speak to the shallowness of his character or to his utter contempt of his constituents as a man.
You keep on correcting me on my typos, Eric, and I’ll keep correcting you on the substance of your political understanding, though I certainly respect your opinion.
Here’s a name I have heard bandied around for McCain to pick as his VP candidate: Kay Bailey Hutchinson. Think about that one!
Most FredHeads already go to Romney. Fred brings nothing to the ticket but a big yawn. Condi Rice would be the most awesome choice.
Mr_Conservitive_Cat
Nicely done.
