I hope LA GOP comes through with a Mitt victory. UPSET :D

As a La resident, I called the GOP to find out the rules. Here's the deal: We vote next Saturday. If 50%+ vote for a single candidate, then at least 50% of our delegates are required to vote for that person. If (more likely) no one achieves a majority, then the delegates can completely ignore our votes and pick whatever candidate they fancy.

That doesn't sound like Democracy to me.

Are you all using paper ballots JudyBeth? We start a 6:30 am and finish about
8pm at the latest with our machines. I won't be working 3/4/08 as my husband is having surgery that day. Our early voting starts 2/19/08 through
2/29/08. I'll be voting in that span of time.

Fred Thompson would have received (I think)47 LA Delegates, but he dropped out the day before the Republicans met. They decided to identify themselves as "uncommitted" rather than support another candidate at that time. That is courageous and I applauded their action then. It is certainly a surprise and shock to me that any uncommitted delegates would support Sen MCain who is a "polar opposite" from their first choice: Senator Fred Thompson! Do not believe everything you hear! Volunteer, now, and send $'s to support Gov Mitt Romney! He is our last chance for any "sanity" in the White House for the next 4 to 8 years! Don't complain! Do something! My Super Tuesday workday begins at 4 AM and ends at 8:30 PM. Get as many as you can to the polls besides yourself! I will be counting into the very late hours, and a record turnout can turn the tide! Still optimistic! jb

I have been involved in some way or another with politics for all of my voting life.
I don't believe that I have ever heard of so much intimidation or attempts at
intimidation and flat out to your face lying where you know the candidate on one
of his/her people are lying. Also, I have never seen two candidates that were so
certain that they are absolutely entitled to be our president. And this is before the
primaries are even over. The serious do or die campaigning has yet to begin. I
may just stay in bed with my head under my pillow until that is over.

TXRose (comment 10) & NewOrleansLady #12 - thank you both for adding your $0.02 - don't know if you saw my comment #8, but it said basically the same thing as the two of you, with the added comment that I, as a proud Louisianian, do not appreciate other commenters being flip in dismissing our state.

TXRose is right. The actions of a few Louisianians does not make Louisiana a travesty. That is no different than someone bashing America just because of the actions of the GOP.

It isn't right to write off any state in this election. I don't believe in calling
LA a "travesty" and that's especially after they elected their new governor!

According to a Fox News item in last night's news, California's electorate is only 42% registered Democrats! This is very surprising...it doesn't explain how the Democrat's have been able to dominate both state houses all these years, unless they received "cross-over" votes.

My fellow Conservative Californians better wake up! We need all your votes to make a difference in California politics! How many chances are we going to give the Democrats to fix the problems they keep adding to?

We do not need a Hillary, nor an Obama, and we surely do NOT need John McCain! Liberalism is what got us where we are today...if you're happy with "more of the same," then by all means, keep electing these idiots to lead. I for one, will no longer accept status quo, nor political correctness, both Democrat standards.

Thanks for posting this Michelle. I agree with Ms. Springer that the national polls seem to believe that Louisiana is a non-player in this - be that as it may, what she is reporting has happened to the "uncommitted" delegates is awful. I will also say, however, that I definitely DO NOT AGREE with "Raging Republican" (comment #1) that "Louisiana is a travesty". Certain situations may be, but neither Louisiana nor it's citizens are a "travesty", and we do not appreciate other readers of this site being so dismissive of us.

tx rose, you took the words right out of my mouth. That is exactly how John McCain come across. His "turn" was "stolen" in 2000, so he is owed the nomination in 2008. I'm not a Romeny fan but anyone who can kick McCain's entitlement attitude to the curb will get my vote
