EP at Slapstick Politics has full Colorado caucus coverage. He writes: “Given the ‘purple’ state status and closed caucus policy, it is surprising that Colorado hasn’t rated much in the way of national attention.”

What Arizona Republicans think of John McCain: “Arizona Senator John McCain may be doing well in national polls but the folks back home that know him best don’t seem to agree. According to a straw poll taken on Saturday, January 19 of 721 Republican Precinct Committeemen from Maricopa County, Arizona, McCain’s home county, at their annual county meeting, 59.2% found him unacceptable for the GOP presidential nomination and only 11% find him acceptable.”
FYI, Arizona is a winner-take-all contest.
Update 8:25pm Eastern. How AP is leading their latest dispatch…
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton was strongly supported by Hispanics and people seeking an experienced candidate, but held only modest leads with women and whites, two of her usual strengths, in early national exit polls Tuesday. A coalition of black, young white and higher-income voters were flocking to Sen. Barack Obama.
On the Republican side, preliminary data from exit polls of voters in 16 states showed Sen. John McCain was getting strong support from moderates and people valuing experience and leadership. He even had a modest edge among party regulars, a better showing for him with that group than usual. Mitt Romney was dominating the GOP’s most conservative voters and people wanting a strong stance against illegal immigrants.
Update 8:35pm Eastern. Fred Barnes is marveling right now on FNC about Huck possibly taking “five states! five states!” Calls it a “remarkable comeback.” Before anyone gets carried away with talk of a Huck resurgence, though, most of his victories are taking place in states that aren’t winner-take-all. Whatever delegates he picks up in Georgia, Alabama, etc., will be more than offset by his zero showings in NY and NJ and his weak showings in California, Illinois.
Update 8:37pm Eastern. As expected, McCain takes Delaware.
Update 8:44pm Eastern. Go here for Missouri results as they come in. Still very early. Only one percent reporting.
Update 8:48pm Eastern. Interesting how McCain campaigned in Massachusetts claiming he had a chance, while taking his own home state backyard for granted.
Update 9:04pm Eastern. Hill holds on to NY. The Corner says Missouri is still a near-dead heat according to exit polls.
Update 9:06pm Eastern. Bottom line so far on the GOP side: McCain was supposed to win Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee (see realclearpolitics.com). Huckabee may win all three (plus Arkansas and West Virginia.) A week ago, McCain was also strongly favored to win Missouri, Arizona, and California. It is now unclear whether he will win any of those three. The night’s a long way from over, but I’ve got to think McCain is not very happy right now.
Update 9:08pm Eastern. CNN projects that Obama takes Delaware — winner-take-all. It has been seen as a bellwether. Both Clinton and Obama campaigned there. Obama takes 90 percent of the black vote.
Update 9:19pm Eastern. Mac takes NY. Hill puts NJ away.
Update 9:30pm Eastern. Obama nabs Ala…and Kansas.
Update 9:35pm Eastern. Rove says McCain should be happy…Kristol notes the paradox: McCain’s winning, but he has structural weaknesses…Romney has to win somewhere other than Mass and Utah.
Update 9:58pm Eastern. McCain takes Oklahoma. Obama and Romney take Utah. Romney’s in third in Missouri. Not good. The Other McCain thinks McCain will come in third in Georgia.
Update 10:09pm Eastern. Huck does a victory dance in Arkansas: “Over the past few days, people have been trying to say that this is a two-man race. It is! And we’re in it…sometimes, one small, smooth stone is a whole lot more effective than a whole load of armor…and all the gold in the world…We’re still on our feet and much to the amazement of many, we’re getting there, folks.”

Update 10:23pm Eastern. Popular GOP Miss. governor Haley Barbour just finished a segment on Fox. He suggested that Huck at some point drop out and not carry on until the very last primary. But not until a clear favorite is chosen. Which hasn’t happened yet tonight.

Update 10:34pm Eastern. Romney’s speaking: “One thing that’s clear: This campaign is going on!…We’re going to go all the way to the convention.”

Update 10:53pm Eastern. Hillary speaks. Shrieks. Whatever. She’s doing a LOT of double-pointing. “Tonight is America’s night and it’s not over yet!” She’s plugging her website. 11:45 PM – Exit polls for the Dems in California look good for Hillary Clinton. Obama is thumping her by 30 points among Independents, but they’re only 18% of the vote tonight. Meanwhile, Clinton is beating him among registered Democrats (79% of the electorate) by 14 points, 55-41. Also of note, Latino Democrats were 26% of the vote in California, they broke 70-30 in favor of Clinton. -TOM BEVAN

It may just be that everyone got out the word on McCain by the skin of their teeth. People like Michelle, who really aren’t very common, should take a very deep bow tomorrow morning if it looks like things are turning around. And so should everyone here on this board. While the average Joe and Joesette go about their lives getting the info from which they make their decisions from the MSM, the grass roots are getting the truth out.
There is another thread which asks the CPAC question: “Is The GOP Lost?’ How silly. It’s only been highjacked – by the MSM. Boards like this make the MSM irrelevant – the same MSM that tells us that talk radio and your favorite candidate is irrelevant.

Blind Mule, I just had somebody email me saying that they were not going to vote after they got off work because “Romney lost”. I fired back that our polls in California are open for a few more hours and not to give up. Further I told them to grab more people to go to the polls with them.
I think they should do a black out on the press until after the polls are closed. Or something. I bet there are a great number of people like that friend.
I just voted in CA, and in my small town election workers were telling Independents that they couldn’t vote in the Primary! The great state of CA hadn’t managed to properly update their voter registration lists for my party switch from “NP” to “Republican” so I had to insiste on a provisional ballot. If I hadn’t, and had voted NP or Dem, my vote would have been discredited later. Way to go with the election worker training, CA!
The man immediately following me, who WAS registered as NP was made to vote provisional instead of being given a Dem ballot.
Grassroots can help offset the impact of the media, but do you think it’s been made irrelevant?
Has anyone else been listening to POTUS 08, channel 130 on XM? That has to be the most fair and balanced coverage that I’ve heard so far this season. They cover candidates rallies, speeches and interviews as they actually happened (no sound bites); they interview folks from across the political spectrum (or cube/square/quadrants if you don’t care for the left/right dichotomy); and the basic reporting is limited to the facts. They leave the opinions to the guests.
If you have satellite radio, I recommend it.

I’ve been watching the CNN website, and I’m really getting sick of them projecting winners after 1% of the flippin’ vote is counted. Lousy, stupid cable news channels. Always have to be first with everything. They can’t just let things develop on their own.
Is it possible that if McCain and Huckabee did have a little agreement for Huck to stay in the race that it may have worked a little too well and has backfired? Huck may take a few states that McCain thought were his and thus will require more primaries to go through before we get a clear winner. I think the word about McCain was only beginning to spread through the general population this weekend and may not have had a strong impact by today. With Dole’s letter controversy, McCain’s bragging, and some of Romney’s great television ads, the media can’t cover up for McCain any longer. McCain has really been exposed for who he is now and could give Romney some extra time to catch up and overtake. Is that wishful thinking, or is it too late for Romney? Either way, Michelle is 100% correct, McCain is damaged goods now. Thanks Michelle for your great coverage and work you do! I’m looking forward to voting in Virginia!

What might happen to Romney is a repeat of Carter vs. Udall in 1976. Because of the winner-take-all primaries, Carter had the delegate majority at the convention. However, because he finished a close second in many states, Udall had actually received more votes in the primaries. Romney appears to be running second to Huckabee or to McCain almost everywhere. That means a win almost nowhere.

no votes for McCain or Huck and way more for Mitt.

Why don’t we hold primaries on the same day all over this country? Then we would
have our candidates and get the final campaign on the road and get this all done
in less than 6 months. We would no longer be tormented by this effluvia for years
as we are now.
How long does it take to count votes in AZ?
The Arizona Republican Primary must be too close to call on the basis of exit polls.
The ballots in Maricopa County were big fill in the arrows which are counted by scanners.
Although the polls closed at 9pm, EST, it takes a while to start counting the ballots. I think that they have to be taken from each precinct to the County Elections Department in each county.
However, once the computers start counting, complete county returns will be coming out very quickly.
You forget that southern NH, the most populated and prosperous part, is intimately tied to Mass. and Boston based media and economy. His succesful bid for NH necessitated campaigning in Mass.

Face it: regardless of positions, Romney’s a cardboard cutout and Huck’s a real guy and a great speaker. If you haven’t figured it out yet, even the GOP is not immune to style over substance.

If McCain is the nominee, and Mitt is NOT his VP, then I have made a decision, along with my family, that we will purposefully vote for the dem candidate, so that the rinos will know not to mess with conservatives next time. I want to see this little, angry, vengeful, coniving and lying old man go down in flames. I want to see the GOP elites in pain, wondering what happened and thinking: I cannot believe we still need those plebs to win stuff. By the way, after this primary, I am stopping watching FOx news all together. They do not deserve my viewership and I think I will remove them from my satelite package since I am paying extra just to have Fox news.

No kikkimay. When you vote in the general election, it’s a new ballgame. Texas doesn’t lock out the major candidate of the opposite party of the party you are
registered to. We get a lot of people that register Dem so they can vote against
someone and then vote straight GOP, no less, in the election.
TX Rose, I live in TX and when I registered, they never asked me my party and I have no party affiliation next to my name on my voter registraton card. So, I assume that is not true.

#88…..You get a stamp on your registration when you vote in the primary of your
choice. We don’t have to state our party of choice when we register, thank goodness,
but the stamp will not affect your vote in the Nov election at all.
And it’s not really “registering” as a D or R in Texas. You pick your primary (no party affiliation required when you register to vote). Then, if there is a run-off in either party primary, you can only vote in THAT run-off if you voted in THAT primary.
