Contest: The New York Times in a six-word slogan

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 6, 2008 09:28 PM

Update: Falling profits and shrinking ads, sniff.

***
Laer Pearce at Cheat Seeking Missiles sends word that the Freakonomics blog at the NYTimes website is holding a contest to describe America in six words. Naturally, the game has degenerated into an America-bashing fest.

Examples:

“White? Straight? Christian? Rich? Welcome Home!”
“‘Number One? Smells like number two.”

Laer is soliciting pro-America entries to balance out the nutroots submissions. Leave ‘em at his blog.

Meantime, if you’d like to play a variation and describe the NYTimes in six words, let loose!

I’ll start:

All Leftist propaganda fit to print.

Our enemies’ favorite newspaper, hands down.

Apologize for Walter Duranty’s lies now!

How’s that stock chart doing, Pinch?

Last week, The Times ran a lenghty iconic article about Ted Kennedy. The article began by mentioning that Kennedy addressed a Hispanic audience by speaking in “imperfect Spanish”. Actually, Kennedy spoke in broken Spanish, mixing up his singulars and plurals in the ONE sentence of Spanish that was written for him. Kennedy’s staff can’t even get one sentence of Spanish correct. And of course the Times writer did not mention the reason that Kennedy’s Spanish is so “imperfect”. Kennedy was expelled from Harvard after he was caught cheating on a Spanish exam. Kennedy paid a smart student to take the exam for him. Papa Joe eventually bought Teddy’s readmission to Harvard. Then the Times writer wrote that Teddy is often slouched and “wears the burdens of his life” on his face. No mention of Mary Jo Kopechne in the article, however. Mary Jo’s mother died quietly in a nursing home in Pa. two weeks ago. No Kennedys attended the funeral. Teddy had not seen the Kopechnes since he showed up at Mary Jo’s funeral in 1969 wearing a phony collar around his neck. The Times writer would never mention any of this. The Times piece on Teddy is so inconic that the Times writer seems downright giddy over Teddy.

He doesn’t even manage the English language well, Larraby. Surely, you don’t expect him to do any better with Spanish. ;-)

What the author didn’t bother to research is that the US already has an official motto that the US Congress passed back in 1956. That motto is: “In God We Trust”

This being the NY Times no wonder they did not bother to research this little fact before deciding to hold a contest. Talk about a stupid reporter.

I do ignore them as a source of information. I just like to make fun of them. Come to think of it though, it’s sort of like calling a pig fat.
