I have had the pleasure of speaking and debating alongside former Colorado Gov. Dick Lamm. In Colorado five years ago, we took on an open-borders contingent that was pushing for the illegal alien ID card known as the matricula consular (which I’ve blogged about extensively here.) He’s a true maverick–a Democrat who has long presaged the self-destructive impact of open borders. In 2004, Dick Lamm gave a now-famous speech at one of the Federation for American Immigration Reform’s conferences. The incisive speech, “I have a plan to destroy America,” went viral. I still have at least one or two readers e-mailing it to me every week. I’m reprinting it today.
It’s more timely than ever as the differences between the two major political parties on these fundamental issues blurs and as open-borders activists on both sides of the aisle work to marginalize critics and redefine all dissent as “hate.” You will not, after reading and digesting Lamm’s speech, feel like “calming down.”

I have a secret plan to destroy America. If you believe, as many do, that America is too smug, too white bread, too self-satisfied, too rich, let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. History shows that nations are more fragile than their citizens think. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and they all fall, and that “an autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.” Here is my plan:
1. We must first make America a bilingual-bicultural country. History shows, in my opinion, that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. One scholar, Seymour Martin Lipset, put it this way: “The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with its Basques, Bretons and Corsicans.”
2. I would then invent “multiculturalism” and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal: that there are no cultural differences that are important. I would declare it an article of faith that the black and Hispanic dropout rate is only due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out-of-bounds.
3. We can make the United States a “Hispanic Quebec” without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently, “The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved, not by tolerance, but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically, and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.” I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with a salad bowl metaphor. It is important to insure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences, rather than Americans emphasizing their similarities.
4. Having done all this, I would make our fastest-growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50 percent dropout rate from school.
5. I would then get the big foundations and big business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of victimology. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was all the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.
6. I would establish dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would “celebrate diversity.” “Diversity” is a wonderfully seductive word. It stresses differences rather than commonalities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other–that is, when they are not killing each other. A “diverse,” peaceful or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together, and we can take advantage of this myopia.
Look at the ancient Greeks. Dorf’s “World History” tells us: “The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic Games in honor of Zeus, and all Greeks venerated the shrine of Apollo at Delphi. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet, all of these bonds together were not strong enough to overcome two factors … (local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions …)” If we can put the emphasis on the “pluribus,” instead of the “unum,” we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.
7. Then I would place all these subjects off-limits–make it taboo to talk about. I would find a word similar to “heretic” in the 16th century that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like “racist”, “xenophobe” halt argument and conversation. Having made America a bilingual-bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of “victimology,” I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra –”because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good.” I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact.
8. Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hanson’s book “Mexifornia” –this book is dangerous; it exposes my plan to destroy America. So please, please–if you feel that America deserves to be destroyed–please, please–don’t buy this book! This guy is on to my plan.

Somehow or other I gotta wonder if this “diversity” and “multicultural” attitude had something to do with the cancellation of “School House Rock”…Great American Melting Pot and all the cool stuff about how the US came to be not being such an important thing anymore.

I’m not sure if I should be amused or depressed. I have read plenty on the immigration requirements of other countries and simply can’t understand why we are called to the carpet if we even dare suggest similar standards.
And yes, I do remember Schoolhouse Rock. a lot of those should be required watching.
Very scary points - though I honestly have long felt that we are past the point of no return. The ruling class does not listen to the voters anymore, rather to each other in a quest to collect the most diversity awards.

Pretty depressing stuff..and it’s working. A little humor for the older folks though. When I read this I think:

What does Tim Conway have to do with ancient Greek history?
Gov. Gloom. That was what the press nick named him here. Why? For his stance on asisted living for the dying. Those who could only survive by being hooked up to a machine that provided the bodily functions of breething and the hear beating. People who otherwise would die on their own. Gov. Lamm said “Why should the tax payer support this” and “pull the plug”. Very harsh words but very poinant.
Dick Lamm was the best Govenor Colorado has had in my lifetime. Since he left office we have had Romer, Owens and now Ritter. All of which have increased the state deficiet and given sanctuary to illegals.
When Dick Lamm ran for the third party nominations with Perot. I would have supported him then if I had believed he could have one. I would do so now if we were not stuck in a two party contest.
Does he not hit the nail on the head? He is very dead on with his analysis. A straight talker and shooter. A Truman democrat that hasd common sense in my book. A true MAVERICK.
He forgot the term ‘politically correct’
Inch by inch the Mexians and muslims are eating away our country. With the help of the MSM, our elected officials, our court system, the ACLU, and other lawyers they are doing exactually what Gov. Lamm said. I saw on Jawa yesterday that my state of TX. that the Second Court of Appeals will now set up The TX. Islamic Court panal of Arbitrators for Shari law. Now isn’t that special? I honestly don’t know if there is anything us Americans can do. NO one is listening to and NO one seems to care.

I have this fear. Some say oh your a conspirocy theorist. But I have this fear of a complete civil like war that may break out.
Not now but within the next twenty years or so. This war will be a race war of sorts. Hispanic vs Blacks vs Whites. Christians vs Islamofacists, and it will be here in the streets of America. Why? Because these liberal mentally challenged moroons ( yes maroons not morons), can not see the forrest because the trees are in the way.
The Left’s vision of Utopia is some benevolent version of 1984 meets Brave New World: no differences, no borders, a world order in which a superior few control the gray, stupid, helpless masses - for everyone’s own good, of course.
Those such as Hillary Clinton sell this shining vision as representing the absence of wars, inequality, and all the “bad” things that go along with maintaining national sovereignty, individual rights/responsibilities and positive differences. This is the choice we will face in November. The packaging will be more attractive, but the box will contain all the old socialist diseases.
It was a firing-up speech then, and is just as timely and moving now. It reminds us all to be more vigilant and perhaps to get viral ourselves. Fire up the belly and purge the beast that infects us.

Great countries have come and gone over the centuries, and the U.S. will not be different. “Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.” In a century or 2, the U.S. will be forgotten as a world power. Anyone remember the Dutch empire? Britain is not even close as to what it was 3 centuries ago. France, Spain, Rome, all fell by the wayside. Usually these powers fall from the inside out; not from outside in. If history repeats itself, I see a U.S. coming apart from all the diversity, multiculturism, and selfishness as each culture competes for power. Perhaps we will eventually split apart as each region no longer finds anything in common with another. As we die, a new Constitution will be attempted and then ignored. Government will change; perhaps a very strong “President” with unlimited powers. Eventually, it will come to naught, as history and time repeats. Some other country will fill the void and again repeat the errors of the past.

There is very little difference between allowing Mexicans illegally into this country and the plantation mentality that resulted in Africans being brought to this country against their will. In both cases, they have been either allowed here or brought here for the purposes of cheap labor.
I’m sure the likes of Linda Chavez and Jerry Rivers think they can defend the nuances, but so far I have seen no evidence that either of them have the intellectual “gravitas” to grasp the havoc that has resulted from this illegal invasion.
Of course this is the same Chavez whose Cabinet appointment was derailed when she was caught employing illegals to do her housework.
Frankly if the Government continues its’ “open border” policy, one can only assume that it is an implicit invitation for all of us to get in on the action.
Hell, they are evidently encouraging us to become unscrupulous employers.
So, let’s all exploit the illegals. There are huge profits to be made.
Pay them little or nothing. Screw their working and living conditions.
They can’t turn you in. They’re illegal.
Now’s the time to jump on the bandwagon.

Carpijugulum remembers. Dick Lamm was not popular among Republicans in CO, he was crosswise to us on many things. That was a different era. But he made sense on several fronts, this being one of them. He’s right on the money. One of the things he said back then: If we focus on the rights of the individual too much, the collective rights of the many will suffer. The focus on individual rights always conveniently leaves out individual responsibility and the masses can’t stand to have themselves held personally accountable for their own incompetence and bad judgement. Stuff happens and we used to suck it up and go on. Not any more. Oh, my. I said that phrase didn’t I? “Suck. It. Up.” Has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? Wrote a letter to the local paper about the need for all of us to be vigilant in light of a national AP story, the writer of which was complaining that our EMS folks were being trained to look for, oh, inconsequencial stuff in houses they respond in emergencies to. Stuff like RPGs in the corner of the bedrooms. Innocuous stuff like that. I said we all need to be watchful. Well, predictably, at least one letter got published that reamed me for selling out the Bill of Rights. Jeez. Folks just don’t like to hear “personal responsibility”. Shout it out, Governor Lamm, Michelle, et al. Loud and long.
Based on Lamm’s assessment, our politicos are doing a damn good job at killing America.

Appears the plan is well under way in destroying this country now. Being a racist xenophobe who despises multiculturalism along with being forced into a bi-lingual society (press one for English) I do believe it is time to start stockpiling ammunition. It appears the founding fathers saw this coming by blessing us with the protections of the 2nd Amendment to fight this type of tyranny. At least until the SCOTUS or one of the Federal Circuit Courts legislates this right away from the bench. Thanks for the Saturday morning blood boiler Michelle. It is good to be reminded there are traitors in our mists it has a way of keeping one very vigilant.

MM, thank you. Although I’m 80 I’d forgotten Gov. Lamm’s speech. Then in California we were wrestling with many of the same problems. I’m not against immigration. That’s how 86% of my genes got here. When my Irish great grandfather landed in NYC, he searched for a job. “Irish need not apply” signs were in the windows of most shops. When my great great German grandmother came here, married and had children, she, who lived to be 90, never could learn English but no one would teach her grandchildren German. They were Americans! I could not but help think how long before that, we are told that “the whole earth was of one language and one speech.” Some of the residents wanted to cheat their way to Heaven and started building. To stop them, the Ruler of Heaven did what? Confused their language. We’re back in Babel and what we can do is herd sheep. Lucky us.
Oh, and back when Dick Lamm was Gov, Colorado was a solidly “red state”. Sadly, not now. Yes, there were a few “blue” spots, but not like now. Seems there’s an incideous “blue” line snaking up through the mountains from Denver, and it’s getting wider. Must be those “beautiful people” types from Hollywood causing the color change. Erg. We’ve given a way the state and federal congresses to the Democrats except for Senator Wayne Allard, and he’s not running again. Gave away the Governorship this last go-around, too. People never learn. They keep throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Oh,oh. That wasn’t PC either. Thanks, JoAnnVA for the reminder of that great PC definition. I have always been supportive of and a member of the GOP, but it is failing those of us who love America. The “Silent Majority”, we, who still understand the meaning of being a citizen and what it took to make this great nation.
I cannot find work here in Mississippi and cannot afford my RNCC renewal fee why;
1 Illegal immigration
2 Globalism/Free Trade
3 Diversity/Multi-Culturalism
4 Etc., etc., etc.,
The list is numerous concerning the failures of both parties, but my allegiance has always been to the GOP. I spent my last 20 years of Army service in Germany and witnessed first hand the negative effects that unlimited social programs have on the backs of all tax payers. My first three years in Germany were spent in Berlin while the “Wall” was still dividing the city. I had the great fortune of witnessing Ronald Reagan’s “Tear down this wall” speech to Mr. Gorbachev and the ensuing jubilation of a united nation.
There is becoming little difference between our parties. The defining issue is illegal immigration and the destruction of our culture through non-assimilation tactics aimed at minimalizing our American citizenship. This is the Trojan horse destroying our nation. This is affecting every aspect of our lives here due to the rising social costs and the balkanization of our country. Look no further than England.
So now please tell me, the best we can nominate for president is John McCain? Someone that 80% of American’s, democrat and republican are against based on last years failed “Shamnesty”? John “Go $&@* Yourself” McCain! “We the people” have not forgotten how many members of the GOP who were/are totally on board with this agenda. The leader of our party GEORGE W BUSH was/is with McCain and Kennedy forcing this on our nation!
I am asking you to please ensure my RNCC membership is processed in full with my $1 contribution renewal fee. This might be more than the RNCC deserves based on actions and policies our party is demonstrating in sharp contrast to what used to be our guiding principles of the GOP.

being 62 I doubt i’ll be around for the final outcome, but i do feel i’ll see and participate in the effort to save America by revolt. I have to look back on Thomas Jefferson’s words in matters of this nature…the times are right on course with he’s thoughts of periodic revolution. This is not going to be race against race, it will be ideology against ideology…it will be the Civil War magnified many times over with more fighters and more superior weapons, the destruction will be devastating.
Gotta get to the store and acquire more 2nd amendment rights…will I still can.

One possible exception to this analysis might be the small country of Switzerland. They have three official languages…Swiss German, French, and Italian. German is the predominant language with cantons (states)near Geneva speaking French and cantons in the south speaking Italian. I’ve been there many many times and the people seem to live in hammony. They are not part of the EU and have the highest standard of living in Europe. Their constitution is somewhat modeled after ours, but is different in some respects. Their cantons have most of the power and the federal government is weaker. It’s a much more consenus form of government than ours. With more and more immigration in recent years, they are beginning to have some issues. Anyone else familiar with Switzerland??
With minor adjustments, such as planned school drop outs, is Mr. Lamms plan nothing more than the Compassionate Conservative Party platform and has not Bush done all in his power to implement Lamm’s plan (sub-culture student drop out rate is not a plan just a fact). And did not Bush say the current presidential candidate is using his policies as their campaign basis. Will McVain stand up to the Mexican Government or capitulate as he did with the Viets.
You are right, and I have! The number of crimes in my Northern California town have doubled in the last couple of years. Daytime home invasion robberies are through the roof.
I have an “emergency invasion” plan for my family, which emphasizes the use of lethal force. IMHO, anyone who is willing to invade an occupied home, whether in daylight or not, is more than willing to take a life. My family and I will NOT become a morgue statistic!
I have placed vinyl stickers on all our doors, giving notice that anyone breaking in assumes all responsiblity of the outcome, and that lethal force will be used.
Let’s continue to “ADDRESS” our social problems by diverting our financial resources away from the agencies who are there to protect us. And please, remember to file your income tax this year in a timely manner. 12 million or more illegal aliens are depending on you!!!

That 12 million is the pc amount of illegals. The figure is closer to 30 million.
I have watched local tv news for the last yr and counted the number of
hispanics as opposed to whites or blacks committing reported crimes. Guess
what? Add the whites and blacks together and the hispanics still outnumber
them ( oh, excuse me, was that racist?). We have liberals that feel good about themselves when they say the words open borders. We have pols that
are so greedy and ambition driven that all they can think of are votes and
possible votes to keep them in office. We have churches quoting the Bible
erroneously at us as in, “Whatever you do for the least among us…” instead
of “render unto Caesar.” We are called racists when we dare to insist aloud
that the laws be enforced and obeyed. We are ignored on the whole by the
politicians that think only they know what we want. We are told by journalists that chosing a president is above us and only journalists know
enough to chose our president. I do not need to go on. When I went to
renew my drivers license yesterday I noticed a big difference in what I saw
yesterday as opposed to six years ago. Only about ten whites, 12 hispanics and the rest were black. Of course I have to wonder how so many blacks can be there in the middle of the day. I can because I have a
flexible schedule and the other whites were either retired or housewives.
Six years ago, the place was cheek by jowl with hispanics that either could
not or would not speak English. Now you have to prove an SSN before you
can get a TDL, and if asked, show further paperwork proving your identity.
I am so fed up with reconquista and that TX is actually Atzlan. I am fed up
with what is going on on the TX border. It is so bad down there that friends who normally winter in the valley have stopped going there. I am
fed up with being lied to, as in Rick Perry promising to do something about
illegals while he is running for reelection and then changing his tune less than a week after the election. I am so tired of people like Craddick in
Austin that stops bills that would work on this problem because his two
largest donors hire illegals in their businesses. We are losing this country.
My husband and I have said for at least ten years that we are going to see
a civil war here eventually. This is especially true with all of these hispanics
here cutting into the entitlements. This is especially true with all of these
hispanics here because we can look at hispanic countries in our hemisphere and beyond and see all of the guerilla actions that are constantly going on in those countries. This is par for the course. And, then there are the kidnappings. Right now, they seem to be by hispanics
in hispanic communities but mark my words, they will figure out that they
can make more money by branching out.

Just today I read that the Archbishop of Canterbury is saying that shari’a law
is a given in Great Britain. Thankfully the majority of the country does not
agree with him.
As to Mexicans. All of this is the same garbage that the black reverends put

are some interesting sites shown alongside. There’s one that shows a cardboard community of illegals living almost up to an area containing some

Amazingly, this was made more than a decade ago, and the predictions are so very accurate. An estimated 240 million citizens from current citizenry. But, our current number is well over 330 million. In 10 years time, we can estimate 10 million from legal immigration, and probably as many births. That leaves 70 million “unaccounted for”.
12-18 million? Please! We are already losing by Gov. Lamm’s standards. @ 20% of our nation will soon be those that refuse to follow our laws, and insist that we install a multi-lingual, multi-cultural system to allow them to live and work.
Look at Annandale, VA. If you do not know Korean, you need not enter 50% of the businesses. If you do not know Spanish, you can mark off another 30% of the businesses. That is 80% of the business along it’s busiest corridor; Little River Turnpike and Columbia Pike.

There will soon come a time when entire areas are self-segregated by language identity. Will there be an insistance that, in order to do business, you must know the local language? That the legal and educational materials be provided only in the local language and idiom?

problem that looms even larger. These “new voters” cannot pay the taxes that
are required to run this country. How to keep us happy and quiet and continue to collect these taxes from the new ( unhappy) minority. Truthfully, I don’t envy them because when they lose their elections (and they will when they find that the need for entitlements for the “new” citizens
outstrips the monies coming in) because they cannot cater to these voters as they promised in order to get elected. Or, they could lose their seats
because their last names are not hispanic. I suspect there are pols right now that are thinking about this and about how to finagle their way through the mess and come out intact on the other side.

Dan, that is true. I don’t like it when an article says bilingual cultures/nations have ultimately failed. Its not true. The German/French/Italian speaking areas of Switzerland have coexisted mostly peacefully; and those are the 3 official languages of the country.
Belgium is another one, the Flemish (Dutch) and French speaking areas of Belgium have coexisted quite peacefully for hundreds of years. Even to the point where Brussels is ‘neutral’ territory and street signs are in both languages! Their biggest issues now are the “diversity” they have embraced with a muslim immigrant population that is not ‘integrating’. Belgium also accepted a lot of immigration from Eastern Europe but those people seem to have integrated and mostly speak French.
That being said, America is not a country of multiple official languages, nor should it be.

Thirty years ago, out of university and having seen therein the aggressive promotions of bilingualism and of Aztlan-ism, in my anxiety I would sound the alarm in such public forums as were accessible, but doubtless I seemed alarmist then. For my part, though never remotely pantheistic, I recalled that “the gods first blind those whom they want to destroy”. But the gloom is not unalloyed. If the gathering clouds are far more ominous by now, at least there are several articulate, implacable patriots in the public sphere, present company not the least of which, to rouse the nation to its necessities if indeed it can be awakened in time. Given the success of the ad hoc grass-roots movement that stopped “shamnesty” in its tracks in July 2007, there is fair reason to harbor hope.

i’ve read this many times. but, after the media made sure that immigration would not be an issue by selling us all the candidates that were for amnesty John McCain, Huckabee, Clinton and Obama. These are the four ‘media darlings’ that were sold to us by the media my hopes for this country are lost. If either of those four get into the white house doesn’t matter what we fax or mail or how many times we call this will be crammed down our throats. What needs to be asked of these candidates is: “Do you believe in the sovereignity of the United States, and if so why? and if not, why?” “How do you propose to keep this nation’s sovereignity?”

Once the candidates are chosen and the presidential debates begin, you watch the media and the debate moderators go after McCain to attempt to get conservatives to like him less than they do now. They will frame the debates something like this: Mr. McCain, you say you’re going to put up a fence first and have the governors of the various states on the border certify that they’re protected. Just exactly when is this going to occur Mr. McCain and what is going to happen to all the illegals in this country in the meantime? Will you enforce the current law?
It will all be done to raise the ire of those on the right and make Obama Hillary look like humanitarian saviors.
