Resign, Archbishop of Dhimmitude

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 9, 2008 04:22 PM

Sky News reports on the continuing uproar over the Archbishop of Canterbury’s sharia insanity:

So, Britain takes a step away from self-immolation. Perhaps too little, too late–but as least an encouraging sign that not they’re not all ready to submit completely. Not just yet, anyway:

The head of the Anglican Church has tried to damp down controversy surrounding comments he made suggesting that some aspects of Muslim Sharia law could become part of British law.

Rowan Williams, the UK’s highest-ranking Christian leader, is noted for addressing controversial issues.

Rowan Williams faced calls to resign Saturday from senior members of his own church following an interview he gave to the British Broadcasting Corporation on Thursday in which he suggested the introduction of some parts of Sharia was “unavoidable.”

The words of the Archbishop of Canterbury provoked widespread criticism from politicians, including the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who immediately ruled out the idea.

Col. Edward Armitstead, a member of the Church of England’s ruling body, the General Synod, told the Daily Telegraph Saturday that Williams should step down because of the comments in the interview, which was followed by a lecture the same evening on the subject at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

“I don’t think he is the man for the job,” Armitstead told the paper.

The next man for the job needs this tattooed on his chest:

Maybe the Archbishop should read this article about Yara before he advocates for Sharia law:

American Woman Boasted of Saudi Freedoms To Bush Brother Before Arrest at Starbucks

Two weeks before Yara, an American businesswoman, was arrested by Saudi Arabia’s religious police for sitting with a male colleague at Starbucks, she said she strolled past the very same cafe with another businessman: Neil Bush.

Bush, President George W. Bush’s younger brother and CEO of the education software company Ignite!, was in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, speaking at an economic forum hosted by King Abdullah for hundreds of influential business leaders.

Yara, who does not want her last name revealed because of safety concerns, is a managing partner at a Saudi financial company. She went to hear Bush speak, and she said she invited him later to tour her company’s offices, to give him a sense of what life was really like for women living in the capital.

“I was boasting about Riyadh, telling him it doesn’t deserve its bad reputation,” she said. “I told him I never experienced any harassment. I’d had no trouble as a woman. It was business as usual.”

But on Monday, Yara learned that she had been wrong. She was thrown in jail, strip-searched, threatened and forced to sign false confessions by the kingdom’s “Mutaween” police.

“When I was arrested, it was like going through an avalanche,” she said. “All of my beliefs were completely destroyed.”

If you have been following English news recently, it isn’t any real surprise. It won’t be long before London will have blaring loudspeakers calling the moslems to prayer several times a day. Don’t smirk; they are seriously considering it. Moslem enclaves are being set up. Best not to go in there either, if you value your health. Even moslem nurses don’t have to follow normal infection controls if it goes against their religion (err…their cleric, that is). They are so worried about “offending” someone and so deep in “pc”, the country has become one confused nation. I would love to visit England again, but I would keep one thing in mind this time. Keep my mouth shut! I could get charged with “hate speech” for upsetting anyone. So, it’s “where is…”, “how much?” and “thank you”. It’s a country where one out of 4 kids, can’t read or write English on graduation. Many students believe Winston Churchill is a fictional character, and Sherlock Holmes is real. One confused nation. So it’s no wonder that the Archbishop is confused too. He’s just fitting in!!

He may be trying out for grand Muffti with this mosque coming to Londonastan.

A giant mosque that will hold 40,000 worshippers is being proposed beside the 2012 Olympic complex in Newham, London. Tablighi Jamaat, a worldwide Islamic missionary group, is planning on building the mosque of the future, called the London Markaz (Arabic for centre).

While other British mosques have plastic minarets and fake domes to imitate traditional mosques in the Middle East, the futuristic design of the Markaz features wind turbine minarets and an enormous translucent latticed roof to replace the dome.

Although the three-storey mosque would already have by far the largest capacity of any religious building in Britain, the Markaz can be extended in peak periods with inflatable structures to provide additional prayer space. The 10-acre complex would include a garden, school, library, gym and accommodations for visiting worshippers. The Markaz and its surrounding buildings would hold a total of 70000 people, only 10,000 less than the nearby Olympic stadium.

Henry VIII always felt himself to be a Catholic. He probably believed that marrying his late brother’s (presumably unconsummated) widow was illegal. His title of Defender of the Faith from the Pope, that the English Throne uses to this day, was for his critique of Luther. Henry was an interesting and accomplished man.

The problem with the Church of England is that after the Civil Wars of the 17th century the teeth were drawn from the established religion. Establishment is not designed to increase the power of the Church but to defang it, house-train it and make it harmless. The tradition arose of sending the fool in the family into the Church. Tolerance became the central formal doctrine of the Church of England. The important thing was they had to be tolerant of royal whims and peculiarities and also of regional or political Protestant minority groups. The expectation was that the non-conformists of the Chapel would in return be politically loyal to the Crown. That was centuries before anyone thought about Moslem immigration. Tolerance for Jews and Catholics came more slowly. Troublesome non-conformist sects were largely exported or channeled into industrial and political movements. That is the historical basis for the Liberals and ultimately the Labor Party.

Americans sometimes have trouble understanding how the recent carnage of the 20th century, especially the First World War, created the deep strain of pacifism that Britain, and many other parts of Europe, exhibit today. It is much harder for us to understand how the horrors of the religious wars of the 17th century produced the desire for secularism and tolerance that dominates elite opinions in Europe.

He’ll never resign. Archbishop Rowan Williams is not even Christian; he is a liberal/socialist who has infiltrated the Anglican church in order to bring change from within. He doesn’t even believe in the Virgin birth or that Christ was divine. In other words, he is a liberal atheist with a powerful religious position as an “agent of change.”

Communism and Islam have worked hand in hand for the last century or so. His comments were a way for a communist (him) to promote jihad.

No wonder almost every conservative Anglican has become Catholic by now.

Yes, Rowan Williams is a buffoon. There can be no doubt of that. However, how does such a buffoon get to become the head of the Anglican Church? Simple, he is elected by the Prime Minister (Tony Blair). So … what happened to the much touted separation of Church and State (yes, we do get people spouting that here in the UK too)? It seems that people are very happy for the State to meddle in Church affairs while the Church better keep out of all public affairs! Lifeofthemind summed up the situation in Britain very succinctly. The church is being progressively defanged and Rowan Williams was picked as Archbishop not due to his astute Biblical understanding, nor was it due to his charismatic character. No, it wasn’t due to leadership qualities either. He was picked as archbishop of Canterbury because he poses the least threat to the establishment (i.e. a weak willed imbecile).

It can be considered un-Christian of me to be so critical of the human leader of my church (the true leader is and will always be the Lord Jesus Christ), but I felt strongly against his appointment 5 years ago and I feel even more strongly now that he should leave the job to someone more capable.

Seriously? Because I was honestly considering getting that tattoo as well.

This Archbishop is a joke. He’s supposed to lead his flock and defend his faith. Yet he calls for the complete annihilation of everything British under shari’a law.

It’s good to see he’s getting flack and outrage for this. Perhaps there’s still a glimmer of hope.

But then you read this drivel by the BBC, and you realize some have drunk too much of the multicultural Kool-Aid (with gems like this, explaining shari’a law):

What does this mean in practice?

All sorts of things in daily life. For example, many young Muslims ask themselves what they should do if colleagues invite them to the pub after work or college.

Many people would of course make up their own mind about the appropriate course of action. But others may turn to a Sharia scholar for advice.

So Sharia covers a lot of very mundane and banal daily issues where observant Muslims want to ensure they act within the legal framework of their faith.

    Geez.
