When is it okay to wear a “Nigger” t-shirt?

Permission is granted…

1) When you’re a wealthy black rapper strutting down the red carpet at the Grammys, looking for some cheap publicity for your gawd-awful album of the same name.

2) When you’re the eptihet-screaming wife of above-mentioned rapper.

3) When you can give some nauseatingly p.c. rationalization for using a Forbidden Epithet by explaining that you are simply “reclaiming” the word for self-empowerment.

Hey, didn’t the NAACP “bury” the n-word last summer?

I agree with the commenters below: Kelis’s pants are the most obscene thing of all in that picture.

dakine, you don’t need my approval. You are who you are, and I have absolutely no problem with that. It’s just that I have never met a conservative, Goldwater molded, or otherwise, that didn’t have Judeo/Christian beliefs, and whose rhetoric appeared, on the surface anyway, mostly liberal.

For example, although you probably don’t agree with me on this, you seem pre-occupied with labeling, classifying, lecturing, and letting others on this blog know just how much contempt you have for some of them. Those are traits I see more often displayed by those with a liberal outlook, not conservative.

As a conservative, I respect your right to have opinions and to voice them. I have had vast experience with liberals in my life, and have found them to be much less tolerant, and much more ready to toss invectives.

Liberals are much more likely, on this blogsite, to end their comments with a belittling salutation or comment. Some of yours fit into this mold. For example:

I know about as much about your god as I do the easter bunny, santa, the Loch Ness monster, bigfoot, etc.

    Okay, you’re an atheist. Be proud. You don’t have to explain your rationale. Or;

Hard to engage in intelligent discussion regarding any topic with someone who actually believes the universe was created in 6 days by an invisible supernatural being who controls every aspect of our lives.

Yes, we get it. You have no faith. Fine. Why do you feel a need to belittle those who do? I don’t know which you hate more, organized religion, or those who belong to them.
This kind of oratory puts people on the defensive, and is not conducive to making friends.

A liberal, on the other hand, finds nothing wrong with this type of declaration, since it’s whole purpose is to convey superiority.

    My take, anyway. Regards!

Nas has made some good songs that are empowering. One such song is “I know I can.”

A sample of the lyrics are as follows:

    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard it)
I’ll be where I wanna be (I’ll be where I wanna be)

    [Nas]
Be, B-Boys and girls, listen up
You can be anything in the world, in God we trust
An architect, doctor, maybe an actress
But nothing comes easy it takes much practice
    Like, I met a woman who’s becoming a star
She was very beautiful, leaving people in awe
Singing songs, Lina Horn, but the younger version
    Hung with the wrong person
Gotta astrung when I heard when
Cocaine, sniffing up drugs, all in her nose
Coulda died, so young, no looks ugly and old
No fun cause when she reaches for hugs people hold they breath
Cause she smells of corrosion and death
Watch the company you keep and the crowd you bring
Cause they came to do drugs and you came to sing
So if you gonna be the best, I’ma tell you how

[Chorus - 2x (Nas and Kids)]
    I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard it)
I’ll be where I wanna be (I’ll be where I wanna be)

So I really do not think it wise to use this word (”reclaim”) considering the negative reaction that makes African Americans have to it.

    IMHO.

After living near Memphis and being subjected to more racism in two years than I experienced in my 20 military career; the black community can no longer claim their victim status and is the reason why I am moving after graduation.

They claim they want diversity, but make it clear its diversity for them and not anyone else. Our city schools are in shambles, and yet they won’t give a non-black person the opportunity to be the school superentendent (sp?) because they won’t be able to relate to black kids.

With all the slurs, it makes it tough to turn the other cheek and not retaliate in kind. If I was a racist person, I would strongly consider joining the klan because their views are becoming more reasonable. If the nation of islam, the black panthers get a pass-whats the difference?

But alas; I answer to a higher authority and I don’t want to face Yeshua and have to explain that.

Perhaps when blacks stop thinking of themselves as niggers, they just might stop being so obsessed with race in general, as the vast majority of whites learned decades ago.

When someone refers to Yamahas as “Jap bikes” (I am 50% ethnic Japanese), it sort of rubs me the wrong way, but then I think of the jackass who uttered the phrase, and it makes perfect sense and I feel better.

spidgy, does “Brit car” offend as much as “Jap car”? Or if we rewind to c.1905, we could say “Nip car”…

The natural syllable break is after the “p”, and “Japanese” has the misfortune(?) to have a hard-stop sound as a syllable break. British has somewhat the same, excepting the “t” isn’t as hard a stop. We don’t use “Ital” or “Ger” car for the same reason.

The Military talks about “…the Brit units”, “Turk”, etc… but I’m sure that some underbrained overly sensitive goomball would - on behalf of the “poor Japanese” throw a tantrum. All the while, the native Japanese fellows would be wondering what the gaijin was making a fuss over.

oh, BTW, did I forget to mention that this REALLY HAPPENED, and it took a major intercession by the leader of the Japanese physician’s group to keep Col. PC from ruining his 2nd best surgeon’s career…

My wife is Chinese, she tells me this whole deal is just people milking it. My best friend & brother-by-choice, before he passed away would make fun of these racially-fixated types.

By these racially-fixated types lights, being a honkey, I can’t say a word — I “don’t know the ______ culture…”. Well, then if you’re not military, keep your mouth shut abt the war. If you’re a lawyer, don’t talk about what the laws should be. If your not homeless, don’t talk abt homelessness.

Is this the brainless drivel we’ve come to?

During my lifetime, we’ve proceeded from negro to black, Afro-American, African-American, (briefly) back to black, then African-American.

Well, I’ve had it. Either you are an un-hyphinated American, or you have nothing to say. How can you? You don’t know the American culture.
