Mexico and the Merida Initiative continued; Update: Audio added
Update: Here’s the audio of Rush Limbaugh’s remarks on the Merida Initiative. John and Ken at KFI will also be discussing the $1.4 billion aid package to Mexico today between 3-7pm Pacific time.
***
If you’re looking for my report on the $1.4 billion Mexican stimulus/border security funding package mentioned by Rush Limbaugh this afternoon, it’s here. And there’s a follow-up here on the state of our border fence.
Make sure you ask your congressional representatives if they know what the hell is going on.
Capitol switchboard: 202-224-3121.
Mexican president Felipe Calderon, who is pushing the plan, continues to lambaste America as a racist country, even as he holds out his hand waiting for his billions.
It gets worse.
Calderon is refusing any conditions on the money. Via a flashback from December from the Border Blog:
The U.S. Congress is offering $1.4 BILLION of taxpayer money to the corrupt nation of Mexico with the hope that it will be used in that country’s war on drug cartels. It’s quite a generous sum of money, and one would think that any nation receiving these funds would be grateful to the American people.
But not Mexico.
In an UNBELIEVABLE statement, Calderon reacted to the possibility that there might be some conditions on the donation as follows:
This ungrateful schmuck’s statement should be immediately shot down by the President of the United States. The U.S. Congress should immediately end discussion on the aid package, and instead invest the $1.4 billion in border security.
But our current Executive and Legislative branches are full of deballed, pathetic individuals who remain too happy to give away taxpayer money. Don’t look for a response any time soon.
But Calderon didn’t stop there. He also said that U.S. presidential candidates are “swaggering, macho, and anti-Mexican.”
He said that Americans have “a total lack of understanding and aggravation, hostility toward Mexico.”
He then bizarrely criticized the way the U.S. spends its own money, saying that U.S. leaders are “spending Americans’ money and putting the government into debt to finance their military adventure, and that is squeezing out private investment.”
This last statement is supremely odd considering that Mexico has limited private enterprise in most of its industries — namely, the oil industry — a economic decision that has put 50% of Mexicans below the poverty level.
Bottom line, this is OUR money, Felipe. If you expect our country to hand over a billion dollars to one of the most corrupt countries in the Western Hemisphere with no conditions whatsoever, you are truly ignorant and arrogant. We’ve already taken in 15 million of your poverty-stricken countrymen to the detriment of the American taxpayer. And now we’re offering you free money, yet you complain. Do you really wonder why Americans are becoming “anti-Mexican”?
Next time, Felipe, just say ‘thank you’ and follow our lead. Clearly, you need all the help you can get.

Is ANYONE in Washington paying attention to this? GW?, Condie?, Reid?, Nancy?, Mcain?, Obama?, The guy that runs the news stand? Anyone?
Can we please just let Calderon run our country in peace? It’s so hateful and racist to want to have our own place and set our own rules and respect our own laws…I see that now. Burn our history books please, disrespect the sacrifices so many have made over the years to keep our freedoms, and let them all in now.
/sarc off
Oh, and apologies to Dems - Bush really is stupid.
So, Mexican president Felipe Calderon is on tour here in the USA to spit in face. Nice.
Felipe, you are plum full of toro caca.
L
Why even have these elections?
What we need to give this low class Mexican is the middle finger.
I give up! We have let Mexico crap all over us for so long that they NOW think they have a right to. Who are we to tell them they DON’T have a right to crap all over us and we are tired of taking in their undesireables? I am sick of being called a hate monger because I want our borders SECURE!
With friends like these… wait he is no friend. Screw him. Let him fix his own problems we have enough of our own. Bush, I cannot believe you tried to backdoor this thing. I feel so betrayed.
I tell banks or anyone from whom I get money that all the time. Don’t the rest of you?
/sarcasm off
Right before they would tell me, “Get out of our office, loser!”
Let’s go ahead and give him the $1.4 billion. Then we’ll send the Navy to take possession of the offshore oil-wells that the Mexican Government has been selling to us from, and just pretend that he knew that was a bill of sale. What are they gonna do about it?
I’m with you, AlohaGuy. I admitted on the first thread on the Merida Initiative yesterday that the left was apparently right in calling GWB a moron.
Just called both my Kansas senators. I repeated what that scoundrel said and told them I don’t want one cent of my tax money to go to Mexico.
This is outrageous.
I bet you nobody will ask either candidate about it either. We need a bloggers debate.
Now, there’s an idea! We need presidential and other key political debates to be paneled by some of the noted folks in the blogosphere, not just the empty suits from the cable news networks - Fox News included.
Are you up for it, Michelle?
LAST. STRAW.
What we need to give him without conditions are swift kicks in the ass all the way back to Mexico.
“Give me” is the mantra of a small child. The words of someone who believes they are all deserving and without responsibility.
And while Mexico imposes its own conditions on the US, for issues including repatriation of murderers taking refuge within the country, they are unwilling to accept reciporical conditions on issues of equal or greater import.
Based on the level of corruption within the Mexican government, it is probable, not possible, that this technology they are seeking will be used against the US in cross border incursions into the US. And it is also likely that it will aid and abet in the deaths of US citizens.
Until Mexico cleans up its own act, any assistance provided by the US will only perpetuate corruption and continued illegal conduct.
Let’s concentrate on our own border, and leave the Mexicans free to be as sovereign as they want to be. And let them do so with the 12-30 million of their citizens that apparently are underappreciated in the US.
I have called and emailed my representitives and recieved luke warm responses. My congressman Tom Davis (R) office said they would look into the matter. The Whitehouse emailed my back saying that they are much to busy to reply to individual emails. My Senators
John Warner (R) and Jim Webb (D) didn’t return emails.
Our Government is full of parasites who only wish to suck the taxpayers dry. They no longer serve us, we serve them.
The Founding Fathers went to WAR because of a tax on tea and being forced to house British solders.
They must be spining in their graves at what is taking place in America today.
Calderon: “Hola, estados unidos! Salud! Give me your dinero, ahora! Condiciones? We don’ need no stinkin’ condiciones! Mira me nalgas…besame culo!”
It’s like a scene from a Hollywood western…
Bush: “Now, Mr. Presidente, here is a big stick…now, don’t you hit us with it….ouch…ouch…ouch…I said ‘don’t’ hit us with it…ouch…ouch…ouch! Whatsa matter with you? Don’t you speaka da English?”
To quote a certain comedian, “HERE’S YOUR SIGN!”
AlohaGuy,
Not sure if he’s as stupid as he is a 1 World Government Globalist like his dad…but stupid will work just fine.
The ONLY way Mexico will clean up its act is if we seal that southern border. Then the people of mexico will demand that their government get off their butts and DO SOMETHING for THEIR people instead of just saying the hell with mexico and come to America.
Stellar idea, men. Should have been done quite some time back.
Just when you thought the poor guy’s legacy couldn’t get any worse…he surprises us all! America, I think your president just passed gas in your general direction…
We need to have a march on Washington. Everybody else does it, so I think that the time has come for us Law abiding, Taxpayers to get off are butts and let those idiots in D.C. know that WE THE People have had enough. We must DEMAND that they protect our borders. We must DEMAND that they STOP wasting our Tax money.
Department of State needs an enema!
Calderon can go pound sand! Yep I have lost my sense of humor on this one. Money we could spend building a solid barrier while Bush and Company want to reward the country that is openly invading us.
There. That’s more like it. Or, maybe it was in our faces? Whatever the particulars, it stinks like crap.
And can you imagine what you would think of the bank if it actually gave the money to you?
That is what Mexico thinks of us.
Agreed!
See now I feel its a very bad idea to give them any aid. He’s more or less said, I’ll build a pool with it if I please and F–K You!
A man of many hats
I’m beginning to think we should have elected the nutjob Ron Paul.
I’m all in on a coup, if anyone wants to organize it.
Gregor, all of a sudden Paul isn’t looking like such a nut job.
And to Felipe Calderon, I say YES we’re racists if you wish. We only want Americans to reside in America. If you don’t like that, shove it where the sun don’t shine. If you weren’t such a corrupt government, your people wouldn’t be trying to escape your cesspool of a country!
Gregor, It’s coming…closer everyday.
Just SAY NO TO MEXICO!
Build the fence, cut off the funds…
Impeachment. Now. Of everyone in DC who supports this traitorous giveaway.
No point in me writing to Feinstein or Boxer. That’d be the same as writing to Jorge Boosh.
And to think, we still hold onto a glimmer of hope. It makes me wonder where that light at the end of the tunnel is coming from? Do I see daylight? Wait? Is that a train whistle I hear?
Methinks we will continue to get rolled over!
Americans will submit and continue to relent in the name of compromise as they have done since the what … the seventies?
Somebody convince me otherwise!
Please!
Emailed Rep yesterday and senators today.
We need to keep this in the forefront and remind the legislators that we ARE watching!
Without conditions on which Swiss bank account he uses.
As you wish Senor.
Cue the cattle prod…
Called Tx Sen. Coryn’s office earlier today regarding this and the young man I spoke to there did not have a clue. Had to lead him onto this site. Hopefully, something will get going here. First read about this at lunch and have not gotten my eyes back in my head yet!
Here is what The Mexican government AND our government is saying to us…
… http://s35.photobucket.com/albums/d156/ac2/?action=view¤t=McCennedy.jpg
I’m surprised that everyone is surprised!
This info was in our local CA newpapers last year (07).
Some of us called for the $$$$$$$$to be spent on the U.S. S. border to implement:
The Predator
Drug sniffing dogs
THE FENCE!!! et al
No Responce.
Calderon (M.Pres.) had the audacity to blame the U.S. for its appitite for drugs!
The same Calderon who believes that Mexico has no borders!
HOWEVER; The Mexican government VIOLENTLY manages its southern border.
ACTION: OUR DEMAND: Pres Bush and the State Dept. PROTECT THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What Jorge Arbusto OUGHT to say…
Hey Caldron - Remember what Pershing did to Pancho Villa? BOHICA.
Or how’s this….no money for you.
Who does this guy think he is? Demands money from us and no conditions. Of course, we already have plenty of Mexicans in the US making demands, protesting our laws and getting handouts. Guess there is no shortage of gall when you come from south of the border.
Hey, Felipe! Mow my lawn.

Perhaps it is time to consider a boycott on Mexican travel and products. Wouldn’t want the presence of Americans or the purchase of goods made in Mexico to interfere with their sovereignity.
I am thoroughly not comprehending how Calderon can talk to us like that and how NO ONE ANSWERS his accusations that we are racists for wanting our laws to be enforced.
Where is the Man or Woman of Fortitude and Authority that will tell him to Shut up AND Get Out!!!
Any ideas on what I should do with the FINAL NOTICE I just got from the RNC begging for me to help them match the DNC donations?
The Mexican Constitution
Chapter III
Of Foreigners
Article 33 - Foreigners are those who do not possess the qualities determined in Article 30. They have the right to the guarantees of Chapter I of the first title of this Constitution, but the Executive of the Union has the exclusive right to expel from the national territory, immediately and without necessity of judicial proceedings, all foreigners whose stay it judges inconvenient. Foreigners may not, in any manner, involve themselves in the political affairs of the country.
Double standard.
I’m so utterly full up with this nonsense that words fail me. Here I am, being asked to take a 120 day tour over in the sandbox to “secure America against our enemies” and yet here stands the administration, leaving the door WIDE OPEN behind me!!
And why the President has NO WORDS to say against this fool, Calderon–yes, that’s the least of what he is–a fool–but can call the Minutemen “vigilantes” should prove to everyone once and for all that although he apparently is a decent and honorable guy, the president IS NO WHERE NEAR CONSERVATIVE!!!!
Enough already!!
And trust me, McCain is going to be TEN TIMES WORSE on this issue.
What a day for Jorge Boosh!
Sharpton and Calderon…what a double bill!
Shakedown artists, cheap race-hustlers, con men with their hands out, demanding special treatment for themselves and their
victimsfollowers. And Jorge just grins and gives.
Gives ’til it hurts.
Hurts US.
Is giving American taxpayer (foreigners) monies to the Mexican guvment a violation of Chapter III Article 33 of the Mexican Constitution or is that just considered panhandling?
If we’re lucky, maybe we’ll be able to elect another “true conservative” to the White House.
Gag.
We can do better than stop a
aidkickback package for the corrupt Mexican aristocracy, we can at a moments notice stop the billions in remittances and tell Calderon that just as soon as his citizens return home they can have their money (that is those funds determined to not be ill gotten gains obtained illegally).“I cannot accept any submission or subordination…Give it to me. And give it to me without conditions!”
Actually, that statement is taken a little out of context. By “give it to me” he is referring to technology to fight drug trafficking. But why are we giving it to him? Let him buy it like we do!
Boy, I am really enjoying watching our “conservative” president do his thing.
He is the Wrong Way Peachfuzz of the Republican party, for sure.
You really can make an argument that he’s not much more conservative than Bubba. Bubba signed NAFTA, t’is true (a good idea, btw), but he never dreamed of this kind of crap. Not with non-Americans.
Nosiree, Bubba reserved his corrupt ways for good’ol boy AMERICANS… lol
Michelle, hopefully, other media will pick up the story on the Merida Initiative, since Rush Limbaugh has picked it up from you. I don’t know that I would bank on it but they might.
At least we have you getting it out there.
Dang. I still feel the need to apologize to liberals that called Bush a moron previously and I kept defending him. *sigh*
ctmom, the technology in question is a double edged sword… I can’t help but suspect it would actually be used against us considering the track record.
Even if for the sake of argument the Mexicans really wanted to kill the cash cow of the drug trade for some higher purpose, doing so would kill another cash cow, our aid to fight the war on drugs. I don’t see it happening.
Build the fence, shoot smugglers on sight.
jus sayin
Calderon’s a typical Mexican.
Me thinks Bush might be looking for a job in Mexico once he leaves office.
Welcome to post-America America. Everyone who has served or is now serving is protecting God-knows what. Neoconservative utopianism? The NAU? An America where Islamic
savagesrefugees get to whine to our State Department in order to move here and bring their filthy practices here? Meanwhile, who will be protecting the wives and daughters of our overseas soldiers from these Mexicans and Muslims we’re letting invade? It boggles the mind. Perhaps we’re just getting the government we deserve.
President Calderon wants $1.4 Billion? Let’s give it to him! At a cost of $500,000 per cruise missle, I don’t think it would be hard to find 2,800 targets of opportunity in his pathetic, corrupt, worthless, immoral, spineless, cowardly country.
Then maybe they would focus on building what they have, rather than looking at America as a place to push their drugs and refuse.
Hell, why would the Mexican President want to give the people who didn’t elect him anything to be proud about in their country? Then they would want to stay and build something, which completely contradicts the sexist, machismo, rapist culture that is Mexico.
And why is it that we do not treat the multiple border insurions by the Mexican Army as a outright act of war? Just one more reason to line a three mile wide swath with enough mines to eliminate every living creature in the vicinity.
I hesitate to mention this - those on HotAir that did several months ago were roundly ridiculed and mocked. You hear what Calderon says, you read what the Outreach director for McCain had to say about a Mexico-US block and you have questioned why the open-borders agenda. It is not difficult guys - it is the NAU! The globalists want America and the Constitution destroyed - they want a European style Union here. They have all but said it and others have exposed it (Jerome Corsi) yet you refuse to believe that the out of control elites - corporate and political are destroying us. They don’t give a fig about America only their own pathetic sense of power and greed. It is a situation the founding fathers feared and it is here. I am a firm believer in capitalism, but what is currently going on is destroying the US.
Even if a NAU makes sense to you economically - or that you believe the Constitution can’t be destroyed just look at the UN, the world court, or our partners - the out-of-control liberal Canada or Mexico with its anarchy, socialist, communist population and it’s corrupt elites - we are toast.
I know you people have heard this before, but please buy an AR-15 chambered in .223. If you have a family you must do this,it will be your only chance to protect yourself and your family. You owe it to them. Get this soon before they ban them again. By the way get lots of ammo.
Yeah, I remember that. Allahpundit wrote a lengthy mocking of Jerome Corsi and other NAU theorists. There’s really no conspiracy at work: they (the elites) make it obvious.
crashemt, HARSH! Mines OK, but save the cruise missiles for Iran! It’s not the money, it’s the time to produce…
jus sayin ya know
Unfortunately that will just drive more north and with
the fence we now haveopen borders we get exactly what Bush and his cronies want, more cheap labor.Don’t give the open borders maniacs any kind of bigot fuel.
Talking about any kind of ethnicity or violence will come back in the form of accusatory hate speech.
No matter whether or not you think it deserved, don’t make a tough job, tougher by giving civil rights groups the opportunity to point the finger.
About a month or so back Glen Beck had on one of his shows, Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX 28th) and Rick Flores,Sheriff of the county where Laredo is in. It was announced by Glen that Rep. Cuellar had sponsored HR 502 now in Congress; “To amend the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 to authorize assistance to improve security and promote economic development in Mexico”. I would tend to believe this is the same bill we have here. Michelle can you check this out and confirm.Glen gave the same 1.4 billon dollar figure. Cuellar and Flores got into a heated argument about this; the fact that the Sheriff’s along the border cannot get any money or assistance from Washington or Austin. Cuellar basically told Flores that he was a U S congressman and he would look after the big picture and for him (Flores) to worry about the little stuff. Glen Beck went ballastic and told Cuellar off. Also now seems Cuellar’s brother is running against Rick Flores for Sheriff.Rick Flores needs donations to help him in his campaign against Cuellar’s brother. It is now come to light that one Sheriff in particular used to get the cars that were confiscated in drug busts and they sold them to help make ends meet. Well that was stopped and the vehicles are now sent to Del Rio for a private individual to sell. It cut this Sheriff’s budget by 1/3.Go to Congress.org website. You can email or send letters, learn about voting records, post comments, learn about bills that have been introduced (HR 502). Very good website.Seems our Texas Governorship and want-a-be vice president Rick “Pecos” Perry promised the sheriff’s 100 million dollars in the last Texas legislative session. They have not seen one penny of the money promised to them as reported by one of the morning local talk shows here in Houston/Dallas (KSEV 790 AM). The 2 guy’s seem to have a lot of contacts and know what is going on.We all need to get on the phones and email our U S congress rep’s and senators and tell them no to this stupid bill. Seems there are 17 democratic co-sponsors and 1 republican, Brian Bilbray of Calif.
Speakup, I hear you but it’s too late to take the high road… maybe it’s time to choose a side & err, Speakup.
Bush/Chertoff would rather throw money at this corrupt narco-State than deal with our borders and illegal immigration. This Mexican ass can say anything bad about our country and Bush will kiss his butt. Something is wrong in America, and it starts in the White House.
That is Henry Cuellar for ya - for dang sure, most of the DIMS in Texas and about half the GOP, as well.
I’ve attended burials for Texas citizens who were unfortunate to have illegal alien foot traffic pass their homes, about 4 or 5 households in my neighborhood.
All were mutilated, most found by their daughters, for the crime of being at the wrong place at the wrong time, to the illegal aliens that came past and found these citizens on their own property.
My aunt was a Justice of the Peace for many decades in this area until fairly recently - she says the kind of traffic that used to break into houses for food, what we are all familiar with and most folks try so hard to pretend STILL IS THE CASE - SO NOT - now breaks in and steals some food, trashes the rest, and trashes the house, including such inane and uselessly destroyed items as even bridge cards and the scoring tablets for them.
Better the bridge cards than what they did to some folks I had known my entire life…
Yeah, I don’t “sound rational” to some of the “moderates” here when I talk about NOT voting for the likes of McCain - but then, I bet they never had to bury any of their mutilated neighbors, or parents, either.
The day will come when some of these politicians are calling the local authorities asking for the volunteers to come ring THEIR homes for security, for what is going down in the streets.
Once the politicians start deliberately inciting anarchy, it always comes down to that - eventually.
Never in history has it failed.
I remember in about ‘88, seeing a lot of AMERICANS cheering what they were seeing in Europe when the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain started coming down and some politicians got caught by those they had wronged for decades, before.
You have to wonder what makes AMERICANS in ‘88 go to sheering so roundly when POLITICIANS were getting what they had asked for.
Well, if you live on MARS I guess you’d have to wonder.
NOT if you live in America.
Most of us won’t do anything in particular - but we won’t be standing in between the politicians and what they asked for, protecting them from themselves, either.
We’ll be a little busy, with better things to do - mostly things those politicians caused us to need to be busy about doing, like protecting our own families.
I went to town a few minutes ago, Lars Larson’s radio show was on and he is preparing to talk to some folks about the open warfare on the American Mexico border, these days.
Something you sure don’t hear about on FOX NEWS and other MSM, these days, since they are all so enthralled with McCain.
It looks like the electorate’s choice will be between a madman and a simpleton.
I can’t help but say…
isn’t that Bush all rolled into one? Shouldn’t surprise us.
You can speak up all you like, you can scream and yell just make sure to leave violence and ethnicity out of it.
We are throwing rocks at a giants, together we are formidable, make of yourself a pariah and you will be squished and the rest of us blamed for your indiscretion.
Its not a matter of high or low road, its a matter of mission success and a civil rights campaign to rival the sixties is whats now being geared up for our amusement.
Be part of the solution, avoid giving our opponents ammunition for their new offensive.
LOL
Remember…
this is the President that DANCES
with Saudi PRINCES…
Saudis…9/11 …World Trade Center///Pentagon// and ……………
He …also … was the LESSER OF TWO EVILS some years ago……….
So we are giving my taxpayer money to Mexico so they can build a fence on their southern border, but we will not build the fence on our own southern border…
Now let’s hear someone scold me again because I want to uphold my conservative principles and not give my vote to McCain or any RINO…these CRAPWEASEL politicians, President Bush included, or perhaps President Bush especially, deserve our scorn and our censure. I’m not going to “play nice” with any of them - no compromising, no voting for the lesser of two evils - our country is being sold down the river with the help of those we thought would protect and defend it!
To Hell with the Republican party!
Sick, sick, sick. I can’t understand why we (America) are not rioting in the streets over this.
Mexico Said to Promise Some Political Steps to Get U.S. Loans
Despite the insistence of Mexico that it would not accept any political conditions on $20 billion it is to receive in loans and loan guarantees from Washington, officials said today that it did agree to sweeten the deal with new measures to control undocumented immigration into the United States and drug trafficking
February 23, 1995
The whole idea that Mexico needs foreign aid is pathetic. Mexico’s economy is the tenth largest in the world and in terms of GDP, is number one in Latin America.
Mexico is an oligarchy with some of the richest people in the world. Carlos Sims, the multi billion dollar owner of Mexico’s Telmex Telecom monopoly has surpassed Bill Gates as one the richest men in the world. Forbes magazine list of billionaires published in 2005, “a substantial proportion of Latin American billionaires, 10 out of 26, were Mexican as of 2005”.
According a recent study by the Mexico chapter of Transparency International, some $2.3 billion-approximately 1 percent-of the country’s economic production goes to officials in bribes, with the poorest families paying nearly 14 percent of their income in bribes.
Central to Mexico’s oligarchy economic strategy is maintaining the billions of dollars in remittance money flowing south, thereby keeping a lid on social unrest among the masses. In that way, the oligarchy preserves its enormous power and riches.
The immigration scam is very successful: the rulers export their unemployment to the United States and get back billions in remittance cash annually— In 2005, remittances totaled over 20 billion.
So when el Presidente Vicente Fox complains that the “dignity” of Mexicans living illegally in America requires that they receive free healthcare on the U.S. taxpayer’s dime, he is really talking about increased remittances to keep their whole corrupt system afloat.
Mexico’s oligarchy is also in the drug business and the heads of the narco families occupy the very top of the Mexican Government.
Maybe Carlos Sims should write a check to the Mexican Government instead of demanding United States taxpayers foot the bill.
Go ahead. Give them the $1.4 billion. Only tie it to our deficit that we have with them (how the heck do we have a deficit with Mexico???). Anyway, the deficit is $75 billion. Here is $1.4 billion. Now the deficit is $73.6 billion.
