Potomac primary: Weather report, potpourri, and Penn Jillette’s prognostication
It’s snowing here in Maryland and is expected to continue through the night (*update 12:24pm Eastern - stopped snowing, but it is cold). Which means low turnout. Which could be another headache for McCain. On the Dem side, Obama expects to cruise to easy victories on both Maryland and Virginia.
John Hawkins looks ahead at McCain’s potential VP picks.
Obama looks ahead to scrapping with The Maaaverick: “I may be skinny, but I’m tough, too. I’m looking forward to mixing it up with John McCain.”
Penn Jillette of the comedy duo Penn and Teller offers his audience-tested insights into why Obama’s got the Democrat nomination locked up (language warning):
Allah’s advice to Republicans: Cross over, cross over, cross over.

It’s cold here in No. Va.. Been listening to WMAL (Chris Core). A lot of people have voted negatively, this time. More democrat voting than republican, so far.
High surf in Hawaii, over 25′ expected.
Man-made high surf I might add, due to years of Republicans driving SUVs, but I digress. Should we all be voting for Hillary in the primary? Is she easier to beat in the General? She’s using “her own” money - probably from Dubai through Bill, if we keep her in, she’ll be throwing her money away…
Voted for Mitt. Guess I forgot my clothes pin for a McCain vote. First time voting here in Mary-land. The signs all in spanish are a nice touch. Plus no ID required!
Everyone’s welcome to vote in the “Casa Maryland”. Just show up and cast the ballot. Vote now and often.
I wonder why, then, almost every Muslim is voting for Obama. He sure isn’t going to be tough against terrorism.
I live in Virginia. I would vote for Romney, but since the choice is between liberal Huckabee, whom the Democrats want to get the nomination, and McCain, whom they fear, I’m going to vote for McCain.
Penn is hilarious!
Here in WI, our primary is one week out. The Obama freight train is getting bigger all the time. We can cross over our vote in the primary. I can’t hold my nose for McCain just yet, the Huckster (IMHO) would be the next Jimmy Carter, Republican style, besides having no chance in the general, and to cast a vote for Mitt post-mortem seems like a waste of time.
Perhaps supporting the weaker Dem. Hillary would ultimately be in my best interest?
Oh my, did I just say that? Excuse me while I go to puke.
I voted in VA. Thompson was still on the ballet. Place was dead but picked up some before I left. Looked to more of a Dem crowd but the guy behind me had a Romney button, but also had wanted Thompson. I called Obama the vegetarian candidate and he laughed when I said “All sizzle, no steak.”
Si senor!
yep four years of obama, sort of the jimmy carter re-visit in the white house. no way mcpain can beat obama. only one that can is Mitt.
not huckleberry hound, either, cause he will be a jimmy/billy clone. if that happens it will be four years and the end of the Republican’s power for 20-30 years or for good?
prayer for a brokered convention for reps. and, do you really think Hitlery and Billy Jeff are going to go down without a fight for those superdelegates? interesting times.. interesting times.
Alohaguy—Cold as Heck here so May the Bird of Paradise Fly UP Your Nose!I know it’s an oldie, but it’s still a goodie.LOL
Democratic nomination. I did this for the longest time until a Democrat (noun) corrected me and pointed out that unlike with Republicans where “Republican” is both a noun and an adjective, “Democratic” is the adjectival form of “Democrat.”
OT
Ha-ha, sorry.
Nice Mark, but I think folks such as Michelle purposely use the term “Democrat party” as kind of a glib and immature way to insult the Democratic party.
Michelle, I’m not sure what district you are in .. but any readers who are in Maryland’s first district — PLEASE vote for Andy Harris in the primary!
Hillary would be the easier to beat candidate of the two.
I think folks focused too much on her - she’s been the longtime red meat - she might pull it off, but Obama is formidable.
We all know Obama has avoided taking hard stances on the issues, I dunno that he can carry on like that to November.
I did too. The nutroots think that if you are unaware and use Democrat improperly you are doing it on purpose, such as when they deliberately spell God in all lowercase.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAH! I should have read further before responding.
I think some people do use it improperly on purpose. Rush Limbaugh, for example. But the majority just have never been corrected.
28 degrees with sleet in No. Virginia. If you’re going to vote, do it now, please.
Because he opposes airport security, PennJillette enjoys making it harder to get through security at airports. Hard to even laugh at his jokes after that very unfunny “joke.” But easy to believe that he belongs in the White Bitch month with her.
Thanks Mark. Kaos thinks he’s clever.
I still think my term - the Phlegm ‘n Crap Party - is better.
Build a statue!
heh
Now that’s clever corona.
I am reading MM.com from the beach in Phuket, Thailand (14 blissful days). Sorry for the snow back home but its already breakfast time here and then time for the exquisite Andaman Sea. But since I am posting from the most distant corner of the MM empire, I should have the right to praise John McCain without any rebuttal. Anyone still considering boycotting McCain in the general election has got to be on crack. Ted Olsen, who happens to be about the smartest guy on earth and certainly the best lawyer ever, is supporting John McCain quite happily. Case closed! Could all the naysayers now simmer down by about 30 degrees, please?
Unfortunately, the adjective Democratic does’t really describe a political party that chooses it’s candidates by superdeligates, not to mention all the other un-democratic tactics used by the Democrats.
Larraby…you in Phuket? Dang, you’re disgusting!…which means I’m jealous as heck. LOL. With things going the way they are back in the old country (USA), I’d be looking to open a nice bar there, and settle down. Get the NYT or Wash. Post…you know…for laughs. Kick off my sandals and let the sand tickle my toes. Might even open up a clinic (my medical background). Never treated dengue fever before. Anyway, be prepared for a political battle when you get back. Lots will be going on. It’s 27F here…and sleeting. Car accidents all over the place, on the highways. Sigh….
For those of you bashing Penn, watch this video where he criticizes Bush-bashers and snotty liberals who think only evil rednecks voted for Bush.
Obama is smokin’ HRC (625 to 37%) in Virginia and Huckabee is ahead of McCain by 9 percentage points (51% to 42%) at the moment. Wow!
Won’t find me bashing Penn. I think Bullshit! is a great series.
Voted for Romney in Virginia. Almost crossed over to vote for Obama to help keep the White House free of the Clintons. Wonder how many people did vote for Obama for this reason?
Grammatically, you are wrong.
A democratic person is one thing, a member of the Democrat Party is a very different animal, and the two should NEVER be confused.
That is because members of the Democrat Party are Socialistic - not democratic.
We will not participate in the deliberate misnomer merely to flatter Democrats.
I will also vote for Romney on March 4th, Texas Primary.
I won’t vote for a DIM, same reason I wouldn’t co-sign some folks’ bank notes.
That’s MY NAME, and MY WORD, that goes to back THEIR receiving a gift of authority from We The People.
When it comes to November, I will find a name of someone I admire, a Conservative, NOT A RINO, and I will do a WRITE-IN. So I can make a statement to the local political parties that I expect to have a name of a DECENT PERSON to vote for if either of the parties want MY vote, in the future.
That way, they do not have grounds for misunderstanding if I vote “DIM” for principles I do not support, and would never vote for, again.
They would misunderstand and give me more DIMS - just when we are on the brink of stamping out crooked political tactics at our polling stations - since this is Texas.
I will not hand them the authority from me they require to be able to use it as a weapon to attack ME with.
Not after we worked so hard to take ILLEGITIMATE power from them.
Ted Olsen doesn’t live down here on the Texas side of the Mexico border.
And he isn’t nearly as smart as he acts like he is.
No vote for McCain the backstabber.
The GOP knew from thousands of polls before the campaign started that McCain is the most hated GOP politician by GOP voters always in the NUMBER ONE SLOT on those polls.
Not bailing them out.
They are not protecting my family or allowing me to protect them, myself. They can stuff it.
If that was the kind of president I wanted, I would have voted for Hanoi John in ‘04.
It was a shame that Virginia didn’t follow Maryland’s lead and stay open an additional 90 minutes. There were many people stuck in the traffic mess that missed voting. Springfield was a disaster area. I know, I went through the beginning of it at 3:45. A normal 20 minute ride took me an hour and I was against the rush traffic. I heard some people didn’t get home until 11 p.m..
my better half, 11:30, taking nothing but the back roads from Arlington to PWC. It was messy. Moral of the story: vote before you go to work in the morning!
