President Bush welcomes Al Sharpton to the White House

President Bush spoke today at a Black History Month event and condemned a spate of high-profile, noose-hanging incidents. He is right to condemn bona fide cases of racism. He should have also condemned opportunist race-hustlers and fraudsters.
One of the noose-hanging cases in Baltimore turned out to be a hoax perpetrated by a black firefighter. A Jewish student at GWU, riding the wave of noose-related hate crime publicity, manufactured a hate attack against herself.
And, of course, the most prominent case at Columbia University remains unsolved.
Want to hear something really appalling? The biggest race-hustling fraudster of them all, Al Sharpton, was at the White House and gave President Bush his seal of approval:
The Rev. Al Sharpton, who was at the White House, said he was pleased that Bush addressed the issue.
Sharpton helped organize a massive rally in September in Jena, La., to protest what marchers believed to be the unfair treatment of six black students charged with beating a white student at Jena High School. The beating came months after three other white students were suspended, but not criminally charged, for hanging nooses in a tree at the school.
“I am encouraged that the president addressed the issue that caused me to bring 30,000 marchers to Jena, Louisiana, in September and 50,000 marchers in front of the U.S. Department of Justice on November 16th,” Sharpton said. He said he hoped the president has discussed specific legislation to address the rising tide of hate crimes and increasing displays of nooses.
It was just three years ago that Al Sharpton was calling Bush “evil.” But hey, who’s gonna turn down partying at the White House? Not The Reverend!
Here’s the White House transcript:
3:00 P.M. EST
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all for coming. Good afternoon, and welcome to the White House. Laura and I are honored that you all came, as we celebrate African American History Month. This is a month in which we recognize the many African Americans who’ve made great contributions to our country. We honor the talent and their courage. We renew our commitment to securing liberty and justice for every American. That’s why we’re here.
I appreciate many of the notables who have joined us: Madam Secretary, appreciate you coming. (Applause.) Mr. Secretary Alphonso Jackson and Marcia. Thanks for coming, Mr. Secretary. Proud you’re here. (Applause.)
If I skip some of the notables, it’s because I’m going to say something about them a little later on. (Laughter.) So, Congressman, I’ll be with you in a minute. (Laughter.)
I appreciate Dr. Leonard Haynes, who’s the Executive Director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. I am proud — Doc, thanks for coming. I’m proud to welcome all the presidents from the Historically Black Colleges and Universities here today; really appreciate your service to the country.
I want to thank Ron Langston, National Director of the Minority Business Development Agency. Roslyn Brock, Vice Chairman of the NAACP — Roslyn, thank you for coming. Somewhere — there you are. I thank John Fleming, President, Association of the Study of African American Life and History. Reverend Al Sharpton, and his wife Dominique — Reverend, it’s good to see you.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Daughter.
THE PRESIDENT: Daughter. (Laughter.) Daughter. (Laughter.) I don’t get them right all the time. (Laughter.) But thank you for coming. And, Dominique, you’re sure a lot prettier than your father. (Laughter.)
As long as the police-smearing, crime-coddling race demagogue Al Sharpton is welcome in the White House, race relations will never improve.
***
Just a reminder of who’s welcome at the White House and who’s not:
Al Sharpton: Welcome.
Tom Tancredo: Not welcome.

It must suck being President…
Political power of the sort Sharpton wields is bestowed, not earned. For whom does he speak?
Our knees-knocking elected officials needs to stop empowering guys like Sharpton. If we are to continue to spit in the eye of Martin Luther King and his dream by maintaining a color-centric - as opposed to color-blind - society invite Clarence Thomas or Condi Rice instead. Sharpton is undeserving. Grossly so, in fact.
When did it switch to “African-American” history month?
The buyer’s remorse is life-threatening now.
Actually, I always thought February was “Black History” month.
When McCain wins the White House.
This why race relations will be continue to be strained for many, many decades to come: sordid race-hustling pays, BIG!!
America’s leadership IS the reason for so many of America’s problems by constantly enabling the perpetrators. And we the American people keep rewarding them with our votes generation after generation.
Personally, I’ve always admired Pres. Bush for walking the walk of a Christian…trying to reach out to various scuzzy people like Kennedy…
while at the same time being impatient with him for offering an olive branch in the face of having it met with a baseball bat or sawed-off shotgun.
Sooner or later, people have shown what they are made of, and you have to deal with the reality.
Sharpton has shown it over and over again. As has Jackson. These guys are nothing but shake-down artists who have taken mau-mau to an art form.
I wish all Americans could summon the gumption to turn their backs on them.
If Bush had balls, he would have given Sharpton one of Nas’ t-shirts.
Refresh my memory, when is Asian-American History month again? Hispanic-American history month? How about European-American history month?
Hearing a lot of crickets.
The picture at the top shows a couple of hypocrites… Sheesh.
Hmmmm, inviting Al Sharpton to the White House to condemn him? It would not exactly make him a Conservative but it would surely be a Kodak Moment worth recording for posterity.
LOL
A little off topic but still intriguing to me. Why is there no white history month? We have now African American, Hispanic heritage month. there is even an oriental contribution week.
Does not history entail all races? Or did white europeans not contribute to history at all?
this display of shameless pandering is making me ill.
This is pathetic legacy building stuff.
Yet another low.
CarpiJugulum,
To admit that white Europeans made any valuable contributions to society would force them to admit we were not racist homophobes simply because we were born Caucasian. It would force them to completely restructure their system of federalized
educationindoctrination and confuse the oh-so-sane liberal base.Next January can not come too soon for me. Just when I thought he couldn’t go any lower in disappointing me. Now I continue to wonder what the heck else is he going to do next?
Carpi..
there is only history.
You get (fill-in-the-blank) history when you embrace the notion that we are not all alike.
It was always a hateful philosophy…
that hasn’t changed just because those who preach it are a different color.
I see that the Rev. Al took a page from the Hillary playbook by pimping his daughter at the White House.
Well, Bush I had dinner with Eric Wright at the White House. It’s only fitting that Bush II complete his presidency with such foolishness.
I don’t think I could stomach Al Sharpton visiting with me anywhere. He is not a loyal American. Just another power hungry con artist.
Showing his uncanny ability to bridge divides the Pres insisted that Michael Richards perform his not so comedic routine in honor of Al Sharptons visit.
See Rudyard Kipling.
Most excellent.
Most apropos.
Most appreciated.
Thanks!
Self-condemnation from Al Sharpton, Michelle? I know you can’t be holding your breath for that to happen.
Given GWB’s position on giving billions to Mexico to secure their borders and what Tancredo will or is saying about it, I suspect that invitation to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. won’t be coming again anytime soon.
Some presidents suck too it would appear. With the recent Merida Intitiative, GWB may cave in on himself soon.
Rubbing elbows with the likes of Al Sharpton should be a walk in the park for him, with stunts like the prior in the works.
He couldn’t have invited Thomas Sowell, Michael Steele, Ward Connerly, or some other deserving black person?
Clarence Thomas?
I feel like I’m in Wonderland and everything is upside-down.
Bullseye!
I literally just laughed-out-loud!
so…when is it OK to wear a ‘nigger’ t-shirt?
He should have at least asked Al which was more unaccpetable these days- N****r or Nappy-Headed-Hoes?
Thats the T-shirts they should have worn
Thanks, Tiger! That was another drink spewing moment for me. ROFL
Bush the ever smiling eunuch, pimping the presidency to all comers — provided they hate America and white people sufficiently. I wonder if Bush looked into Sharpton’s eyes and saw that in his soul he was a good man . . .
Please God, make it stop.
Listen brother, I’ve already given you all the money I have. Now, take your race baiting black butt out of here. Your not on the guest list. Use the back door, would ya?
Sharpton strives in such a transparent manner to enhance his own power, at the expense of what’s good and right. Supporting Tawana Brawley’s lies, that’s a problem. Whipping up a mob ending in a murder of a young jewish scholar, that’s a problem. Fomenting racial strife, that’s a problem. Someone please help me and tell me what good he’s ever done.
They should count the silverware after Sharpton leaves.
I’d say that I lost respect for Bush for this, but I was pretty much down to zero anyway since he successfully pressured congress not to recognize the Armenian genocide. So, go for it, Georgy.
I’m told that he converts oxygen and starches into H2O and CO2. That’s all I can think of.
This is the President
who DANCES
with Saudi PRINCES…
Reverend? He’s no reverend. Probably bought his “certificate” online for $25. One thing for certain, he isn’t a man of God. He’s a man who worships himself in power. Sold his soul to have influence in politics.
It’s taken 8 years but I’ve finally soured on Bush. I agree with his stance on the war, and little else. It boggles the mind to me how he was so capable as a governor and yet so impotent in domestic affairs as a president.
Mind you, this is exactly what you can expect to see from McCain, should he be elected.
And yet, that’s who I’m forced to vote for, thanks to the process.
Idea: why don’t we just have all the primaries on the same damn day? Put it on the calendar for April 1 (heh) and have an all-out battle royale?
Judging by your post #4 on the “NAS t-shirt” thread, you seem to be at ease using the “n” word. If I’m incorrect, please explain. Otherwise, I believe you have a problem.
I didn’t read the article, MM. I’m not going to read the article.
The fact that Bush allowed this racist bastard in the White House speaks volumes as to the flailing integrity of the out-going administration.
(Okay…I’ll read a little of it).
I’m going to hurl now.
I would simply ask, why do you call Obama black? Doesn’t his mother matter?
In a related but unreported story, George W. Bush told reporters that “There is no doubt in my mind that Al Sharpton is a true conservative.”
The chief executive later remarked “Hola, to my moderate compadre in the Gulf,” Fidel Castro…
And what’s the difference again between the Bush Republicans (seems like they are 99% of Republicans) and the Democrats?
Great - more legislation on top of the laws already in place against assault, murder and harrassment.
Somebody please tell me why someone who assaults someone because they are black, hispanic or any other race should get any more jail time than someone who assaults someone for any other reason?
Bush playing up to the libs (just like McCain) requires a lack of principles, character and courage. I know and support him on Iraq but as has been said before on this thread, that’s about it.
Tap into those unused vacation and sick days, Mr.President, Mr. Cheney can take it from here. Thanks.
Sharpton’s first trip to the White House occurred when singer James Brown went to meet Ronald Reagan. Sharpton’s lifelong pompadour hairdo came about at Brown’s insistence, just before they went. Sharpton’s flamboyance stems from having James Brown as a main mentor. They have taken the “squeaky wheel” to a whole new level. This filled in some blanks for me.
