Showdown in Berkeley and the Harry Reid chicken-out; Update: Morning mayhem in Berkeley; Update: Still trashing the Marines; Update: Reid speaks
Update 5:33pm Eastern. A picture that will warm your heart. The pro-troops protesters this morning in Berkeley. Video here.
Update 5:28pm Eastern. A Hill staffer sends the following partial transcript of Harry Reid’s comments to a reporter on the siege at Berkeley:
QUESTION: Do you think the statement made by the Berkeley City Council was appropriate? What should the response of the United States Senate be?
REID: To be very honest with you, I don’t know what the Berkeley City Council said. I have enough trouble keeping track of the Las Vegas City Council, so I’m sorry…
QUESTION: They said the Marines were not welcome in Berkeley.
REID: Well, if they said that, I’m disappointed. The Marine Corps should be welcome anyplace in the United States.
Update 1:49pm Eastern. Thought you’d like to see this sign from the Pinkos as they amass in front of Berkeley’s City Hall (hat tip - William Amos; source: CNN). No need to question their patriotism anymore. They have none:
Update 11:14am. Just received word from Cat Moy with Move America Forward of a physical confrontation by the Code Pinkos against pro-troops supporters. Cat writes:
Berkeley Police Watch “Peace” Freaks attack Patriots
Berkeley erupted in violence Tuesday morning when the Communist, terrorist-supporting anti-war group crossed into Martin Luther King Park and assaulted pro-troop individuals. Riot police stood by, but did not stop the assaults. Police agencies did not respond to calls for help.
Move America Forward, the nation’s largest pro-troop organization, received permits from the City of Berkeley to hold a daylong demonstration in MLK park against the City Council who passed three outrageous resolutions calling U.S. Marines “unwanted intruders.”
“It is mayhem on here,” MAF communications director Danny Gonzalez said from the park early Tuesday morning.
Code Pink was permitted for across the street. The two sides were to stay separated, according to rules laid down by the city. But the city has a history of giving Code Pink special preference. The City Council gave free parking permits and a free noise permit to the radical group, which has helped fund terrorist families in Iraq with a $600,000 gift. MAF Exeutive Director Catherine Moy attempted to get help from the Berkeley police as the mayhem unfolded, but an officer hung up on Moy. Moy asked the California Highway Patrol to help in the emergency, but the CHP refused. “I have never in my life experienced such inaction in the face of an emergency, “Moy said. “I will ask the Federal Government to investigate, as well as the State Attorney General. It is one thing to give free parking places to the City Council’s special interest anti-war groups, it is another to take sides and endanger the lives of others.”
Move America Forward and other pro-troop organizations will stand in support of the Marines all day Tuesday until they can enter the City Council chambers to address the City Council.

Today is the Move America Forward protest against the Berkeley City Council for its discriminatory anti-Marine measures. Check here for details if you’re in the area and able to attend. The council meets tonight at 7pm to consider retreat resolutions. It’s going to be one for the history books. The SFChron says it’s “expected to be its largest and most raucous protest in years as hundreds of demonstrators from near and far pour into town for Tuesday night’s City Council showdown over a Marine Corps recruiting station downtown.”
You’ll be very interested to know what happened back here in Washington last night related to the Berkeley debacle. And protesters in Berkeley might want to bring a couple rubber chickens as a reminder. As you’ll recall, Sen. Jim DeMint moved to deny Berkeley millions of dollars worth of earmarks to the troop-bashing city. This would have put Democrats on record: For the moonbats or for the troops?
Well, Harry Reid managed to stymie movement on DeMint’s measure. He used a rare maneuver to delay the vote until later today–giving the council a chance to backtrack and giving cover to the Dems. A Senate staffer told me: “It’s truly incredible that they went to such great lengths to avoid having to deal with this.”
Par for the course for the Move On-bought-and-owned Dems.
The Hill reports:
Senate Democrats left two days of legislative business officially open last week, hobbling GOP efforts to bring up a bill punishing a liberal California city for scolding Marine Corps recruiters.
Republicans said Democrats clearly wanted to avoid being forced to choose between the Marine Corps or Berkeley, Calif., known for its liberalism and fervent anti-war positions.
Instead of adjourning at the end of a day as usual, the Senate “recessed” twice, a move that, under Senate rules, slows the process of adding new bills to the calendar. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) did not adjourn until last Friday, effectively pushing back floor consideration on the GOP bill until Tuesday — the same day that the city council is likely to tone down its call for Marine Corps recruiters to leave town.
“The only reason to recess is to block something, and the thing that got blocked by Reid’s stall tactic was the Semper Fi Act,” said spokesman Wesley Denton, referring to the bill introduced by his boss, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.).
“Democrats have chosen not to defend the Marine Corps, but to pander to anti-war protesters and Berkeley officials that are actively trying to impede military recruitment.”
The recess move is highly unusual:
The process of recessing is very unusual in the 110th Congress. The only times the Senate went into recess were on Sept. 12 and before and after a number of quick “pro forma” sessions held late last year and in early January, in a tactic to keep President Bush from making recess appointments.
When the Senate adjourns, a legislative day officially comes to an end. To bypass committee consideration of a bill, a senator can request that a bill be placed on the Senate calendar two legislative days after it is introduced.
Once a measure is on the calendar, a senator can request the Senate to approve a bill by unanimous consent, or force at least one member to object to its passage.
But on Feb. 6 and Feb. 7, Reid and Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) closed the chamber’s doors by recessing until the next day, a move that, unlike adjourning, does not change the legislative day.
That tactic effectively delayed an effort by DeMint and five other conservatives to bring forward a bill, introduced on Feb. 6, that would strip Berkeley of $2 million worth of earmarks inserted into the $516 billion omnibus spending bill Bush signed into law at the end of 2007. According to three GOP aides, DeMint signaled on Feb. 6 that he would request that the bill be placed on the legislative calendar before the decision was made to recess, rather than adjourn, for the night.
“Berkeley needs to learn that their actions have consequences,” DeMint said.
Indeed, they are slow learners.
***
FYI, Sens. Boxer and Feinstein and Rep. Barbara Lee are the sponsors of the earmarks targeted by DeMint. Where do they stand on the Berkeley controversy? For the Marines or for the troop-bashers.
They are standing in defense of…their earmarks.
Code Pink camped out at City Hall last night reports the SF Chron:
About 60 activists, including a few of the tree-sitters from UC Berkeley’s Oak Grove, danced, sang, listened to jazz and drank carrot juice as they pitched their tents for the night.
“This is a great gift to us to be able to ignite a national debate,” said Medea Benjamin, Code Pink spokeswoman. “We’re drawing a line in the sand on Shattuck Avenue and saying the war stops here.”
Here’s the council agenda item:
From: Councilmembers Olds and Capitelli
Recommendation:
1) That the City Council, through adoption of this item, publicly differentiate between the City’s documented opposition to the unjust and illegal war in Iraq and our respect and support for those serving in the armed forces.
2) Rescind point 2 of Item 12, of the January 29, 2008 Berkeley City Council Agenda, “Marine Recruiting Office in Berkeley,” regarding communications with the Marine Recruiting Station in Berkeley.
Financial Implications: None

Discussion probably won’t begin until around 9pm Pacific time, after such typically Berkeley resolution discussions as these:
15. Condemn Construction of Border Wall - United States and Mexico Border (PDF)
From: Councilmember Worthington
Recommendation: Adopt a Resolution condemning the construction of a border wall along the international boundary zone connecting the United States of Mexico and the United States of America.
Financial Implications: None
Contact: Kriss Worthington, Councilmember, District 7, 981-7170
16. Proclamation: February 2008 as Freedom to Marry Month (PDF)
From: Councilmembers Worthington and Moore
Recommendation: Adopt a Proclamation declaring February 2008 as Freedom to Marry Month in the City of Berkeley and urge the state to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered people and their families by removing references to sex and gender as eligibility requirements for a civil marriage license and enacting a law providing for equal access to marriage and all of its legal benefits and obligations by all persons, regardless of sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
Financial Implications: None

17. Letter To Canadian Officials Requesting Sanctuary For U.S. War Resisters (PDF)
From: Councilmember Worthington
Recommendation: Send a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Diana Finley and Liberal Party leader Stephane Dion requesting that the government of Canada establish provisions to provide sanctuary for U.S. military service members who are living in Canada to resist fighting in the Iraq War.
Financial Implications: See report

- Berkeley vs USMC: Face off in Berkeley and Harry Reid’s two step

What’s the fine print preventing Bush from making recess appointments during the recess? At the very least he should be able to make the Dems choose between the appointments and stalling this vote.
Has the senate accomplished anything under Harry Reid?
WOW, JUST WOW. How does this fit in with, “we support the troops but not the war”?
Duh statement of the day. Well, so far. The day has just started.
Thanks for the detailed update Michelle. If only the main stream media would make note of these maneuvers.
I am calling Arlen the Specter’s office this morning, (after they wake up and answer the phone) to request that he speak to this issue today so at least the few who watch CSPAN will hear of this outrage.
And a waste of my tax dollars! gee, I wish I could just cut out of work when I wanted. This whole system rankles the hell out of me, they get to waste time and money to NOT show their true colors. I said it once and I’ll say it forever: Public “Servants” my butt!
So the “Wrong” (oops, I mean “Left”) are showing they are not only anti-war, but anti-military and anti-American.
I have long thought, one doesn’t have to support the war, but one should always support the troops.
Their actions were hardly a ’scolding’.
They denegrated and demeaned the United States Marines and called them unwelcome intruders. They also gave preferential treatment to an uber-liberal protest group which sought to silence the Marines by protesting in front of their place of business in a council-appointed parking spot right at their door.
“Scolding” makes it sound as if the Marines did something wrong.
It’s good to see that my college town can waste its citizens time and resources delving into national and international policy as a result of having solved crime, homelessness, poverty, and other civic problems that plagued the community the last time I visited (summer 2007).
The only question I might have is when do they have any time for city business? With the fullness of their agenda, does the city just drift along?
Oops - never mind - that was a rhetorical question.
Michelle,
I knew that you would be covering this. You have always been there for us Vets and our active duty.
As for the jerks on the left coast - may the fleas of a 1000 camels infest your arm pits - um, if they haven’t already.
If they want to talk about an “illegal” war, they should consider the legality of their dealings in foreign affairs. It strikes me that a city government should not attempt to undermine the efforts of the state or federal government. A city council is just that — a CITY council. Enough about desertion sanctuary and border disputes. Get to the job of city government.
And, no, Doug, that is not a rhetorical question. It’s a legitimate one. Sadly, these cowards in Berkeley would rather tell everyone else their business without getting their own house in order first.
From the Life Imitates Monty Python Department:
JUDITH: I do feel, Reg, that any Anti-Imperialist group like ours must reflect such a divergence of interests within its power-base.
REG: Agreed. Francis?
FRANCIS: Yeah. I think Judith’s point of view is very valid, Reg, provided the Movement never forgets that it is the inalienable right of every man–
STAN: Or woman.
FRANCIS: Or woman… to rid himself–
STAN: Or herself.
FRANCIS: Or herself.
REG: Agreed.
FRANCIS: Thank you, brother.
STAN: Or sister.
FRANCIS: Or sister. Where was I?
REG: I think you’d finished.
FRANCIS: Oh. Right.
REG: Furthermore, it is the birthright of every man–
STAN: Or woman.
REG: Why don’t you shut up about women, Stan. You’re putting us off.
STAN: Women have a perfect right to play a part in our movement, Reg.
FRANCIS: Why are you always on about women, Stan?
STAN: I want to be one.
REG: What?
STAN: I want to be a woman. From now on, I want you all to call me ‘Loretta’.
REG: What?!
LORETTA: It’s my right as a man.
JUDITH: Well, why do you want to be Loretta, Stan?
LORETTA: I want to have babies.
REG: You want to have babies?!
LORETTA: It’s every man’s right to have babies if he wants them.
REG: But… you can’t have babies.
LORETTA: Don’t you oppress me.
REG: I’m not oppressing you, Stan. You haven’t got a womb! Where’s the foetus going to gestate?! You going to keep it in a box?!
LORETTA: [crying]
JUDITH: Here! I– I’ve got an idea. Suppose you agree that he can’t actually have babies, not having a womb, which is nobody’s fault, not even the Romans’, but that he can have the right to have babies.
FRANCIS: Good idea, Judith. We shall fight the oppressors for your right to have babies, brother. Sister. Sorry.
REG: What’s the point?
FRANCIS: What?
REG: What’s the point of fighting for his right to have babies when he can’t have babies?!
FRANCIS: It is symbolic of our struggle against oppression.
REG: Symbolic of his struggle against reality.
The only thing missing from the Berkley city council agenda was the usual antiIsrael, proHamas/Hezbollah resolution that is a staple of just about every Berkeley council meeting or Berkeley protest. How did the council members forget to throw in at least one proForma antiIsrael resolution? Maybe the fine Colombian made the council members momentarily lose their train of thought.
You’re right, AC - every time I have to drive through Berkeley, it strikes me as one of the dirtiest, dingiest places on earth. The streets are narrow, and crowded. I have more respect for UCB than I have for the city in which it sits. I tend to avoid it as much as possible, to the point where I will go 20 miles out of the way rather than pass through it.
If the council really had pride in their city, rather than pride in their past as the “Home of the Free Speech Movement” and the sit-ins and love-ins of the hippie culture, they would make it a priority to take care of the place.
I really feel sorry for the police and firemen up there. Every call they go on has to be measured against a political yardstick.
This group brings out the worst in me. Their initial infelicitous comment were something to the affect of “we are protecting the health and safety of our youth” and now they have graduated to stopping the war. Newsflash: You don’t have that kind of power… Besides, this isn’t even about them anymore. This is about the City council (and what has to be the height of stupidity)drafting a letter calling our troops unwelcome and uninvited intruders and granting a parking permit for these saggy hags to harass the Marines while they do important work. We’ll see who effectively drew the line in the sand.
I have to laugh, the Code Pinko’s believe that they are somehow relevant in this debate. The only debate here are the special privileges the Berkeley City Council EXTENDED to Code Pink. Through their actions, the Berkeley City Council became an active participant in the protest.
The actions of the Berkeley City Council have impinged on the rights of the Marine Corps Recruiters, as well as those of potential recruits.
Shame on Berkeley, take those earmarks back.
was something
Gawd, the rest of the agenda is just as awful as the resolution they passed.
We should rescend the earmarks based on the entire liberality of the agenda alone.
Lex Luthor, where are you with your plans? Hackensack?
It’s just too bad that there is no Earmarks Anonymous for these Dem senators. They’re clearly addicted.
If the Berkeley City Council would only pass a resolution calling on UBL to surrender it would solve alot of our problems.
Then they could resolve to have OPEC lower the price of oil.
And while they’re at it, they could pass resolutions demanding that Mexico and the Central American countries improve their economies.
What with Code Pink throwing their weight behind these initiatives, the world is saved!
Maybe I can get them to come to my town and draw a line around it, saying the war stops there, too.
max sarc off/
Let the 1.4 billion for mexicos southern boarder come from the city of Bezerkley. Seeing how they do not appreciate the military. They can also pack up and get the hell out of the United States and move to mexico.
Henry Reid shows his true yellow colors with the pinkies. His disdain for the Military is also very disgraceful. Along with Boxer and Fienstien. They too can get the hell out of here.
I for one am sick and tired of these lefties cutting down the military and American values in the name of being enlightened and progresive. I would like to put a military boot up their backside as they stumble over the boarder to their beloved cesspool of Mexico.
My God. I thought City Councils were supposed to deal with city business. Besides allowing their sexually deviant population to marry, I don’t see how any of those resolutions actually deals with the city.
The whole agenda smacks of self-righteous sanctimosity (not sure if that’s even a word, and that phrase might be redundant. My bad). It must be exhausting having the weight of the world on one’s shoulders every day.
Nah. That only applies to other local governments, Matt. Why, if it weren’t for the Berkeley City Council, how could/would anything get done in the world?
/sarcasm off
Thus, the nation dances to the beat of the lunatic fringe…. aka democrats
Can’t wait to turn it over to these clowns… Just for a “change”.
May they get what they are asking for!!
Too bad that the rest of us sane people will be dragged along in the same net.
Always LOVE IT when the Dimocrates get to show how they support our troops…
and fight for national security.
Tell your friends and neighbors.
But the mentality across the nation is that only one man can make a difference — the one elected to the Oval Office. Well, I have news for you. We must change the people roaming the halls of Congress, the state legislatures, and the city and county offices.
Too many people cry “throw the bums out — except my bum.”
Enough already!
I refuse to vote for an incumbent, just on general principles - and my conscience
To TexasTiger:
As a long time fan of MPFC, the geniuses of Python were able to use satire/sarcasm/ humor to make a point.
The Berkeley City Council is quite serious about this seditious crap.
I think even the Pythons would be surprised to see one of their farcical skits exceeded by reality.
It makes you want to cut Berkeley completely off the American continent and set it adrift in the Pacific to match its intellectual drift. The space left behind would make a nice pond.
And I say this living in Massachusetts, knowing full well that the liberal flotsam and jetsam here will soon follow suit.
Doesn’t their city council have any. . you know. . CITY issues to deal with? They can really afford to waste time with things like condemning the border wall?!?
To paraphrase Jerry Reed:
They get the gold mine, we get the shaft. It all sounds kinda funny but it hurts too much to laugh…
Reid and all liberals have one thing in common: no spine.
Truly, seriously, Reid is a despicable boor.
When, O When, can we question these Reids and the Berkeley buffoons patriotism?
Gawd! I can’t stand my Illinois Senator Durbin! I wonder how much in kickbacks and favors he gets every year by doing crap like this for Reid, Pelosi, and that ilk. Everytime I hear his name it’s attached to something shady or unethical like this.
I pray to God that Illinois people wake up one day and he gets the boot.
Now I DO question the Democrats patriotism.
Par for the course for the Dhimmi-Crat Party. Sad that we live in a time where one of the political parties displays open contempt for our troops. Sometimes I wonder how anyone can vote for them. Then I realize they’ve made a sizeable number of citizens into wards of the state who want the government to help them have a bowel movement. That’s been so successful that they’re after illegals to put them on the government teat.
Treasonous bastards.
Sure they do. They handle parking issues and…oh wait!
Never Mind!
/sarc off
Mom: Look Billy, there’s a marine.
Billy: Should I spit on him mommy?
Mom: No, let’s wait for the other protesters to back us up.
And btw, will the voters finally see just how dishonest the Dhimmicrats are?
I’ve been doing the same thing for years now. But in Maryland, I have a hard time making a dent. One of these days, I pray, I will not be so alone.
I have to agree Mr. Vibeman; Durbin is pretty tough to watch. There is a good guy running against him this year right? A doctor who is first time politician though. What are his chances? It would be wonderful to end Durbin’s run.
What frauds these Code Pinkos are… they are the ones assaulting people while the “law” in Berkeley looks the other way.
Please tell me somebody had a video camera.
Cat,
Oh behalf of my Marine who is serving aboard the USS Nimitz, thank you.
I wish that I could stand with you, but I’m halfway across the country. Please do whatever you have to do short of violence, to make sure that these traitors do not have the victory today!
I salute all of you and will continue to prayerfully monitor the situation throughout the day.
IR
The U.S. Military is going to have to invade and occupy Berkley, to bring it back into the Union.
All Code Pink personnel are to be arrested by MP’s on sight. Then fly them all to Daytona Beach this weekend where they will be forced to endure the patriotic and global warming-inducing Daytona 500, national anthem and flyover included.
That’s only the first stop on their trip. Next is the short hop from Daytona to Club Gitmo, where they will meet many like minded people.
Do you think traitor-pink and detainee-orange are a fashion clash, or a good match?
So, for the record, Code Pink Vigilantes
have support of both the “useful idiots” on the City Council, the useless Mayor, the Berkeley Police sat on their hands, the CHP just watched unlawful assembly, assault and mayhem like it was not their problem?
Someone on the Left Coast has some explaining to do!
I just wrote a check to Move America Forward for their support. It will be mailed today.
I expected Harry Reid and “Dick” Durbin to act in support of the Code Pink Punks and Vandals. I reckon that the backlash will be ugly for those dolts.
What an amazingly dangerous precedent. In America, we witness a Government body of elected officials openly give a political group preference - to the point of special privileges and use of violence to silence opposing voices. I must have awakened in the Twilight Zone or the Mao Revolution…
I have been totally disgusted with Arnold for his silence in this entire mess. This was his response to an email I sent him:
I wonder if there will be any response when law enforcement, in a city in the state he governs, refuses to come to the aid of citizens who support the military.
Silence in this is appalling. You either support the troops or you don’t. We should be hearing from all the politicians in California.
Of course not Brian. It’s the new “black”.
This is a total outrage. No police protection against assault? This is an un-American activity by a US city. Who gave the order to the police not to respond? What’s next, City of Berkeley approved hit men?
This is a hate crime and a violation of MAF’s civil rights. The FBI need to be involved now.
Harry Reid, allow the Senate to vote on Sen. DeMint’s legislation. Do it now.
The visceral Marine in me can only shake his head and wish he was in that melee. I cannot believe I feel so willing to strike out physically. I wish I could say I’m ashamed, but I’m not. Not to worry, my objectivist libertarian side will win out, for now.
I’m envisioning pink and orange striped prison outfits for them. They can hold their stupid vigils all they want in Club Gitmo, while the U.S. Marine Corps continues to protect them from the terrorists.
I have to admit my idea is somewhat selfish, I would love to see that!
The Obama ‘08 Campaign could help the CodePinkos out with decoration ideas for their cells, like this Che Cuban flag.
Please have the Move America Forward videotape, photograph, and otherwise fully document the assaults and the police inactivity. If what you have described is accurate, the police have just committed a federal civil rights violation. If the City Council gave orders to the police to not act to protect the MAF supporters, they are members of the conspiracy. If the reports are true, this is what is known as “state action” discrimination. California, already bankrupt in so many ways, will be financially liable for Berkeley’s actions. So, in the end, SUE them!
This week on TLC, Extreme Commie-traitor Holding Cell Makeovers!
Trading Spaces. Hahaha!
What hypocracy that an anti-war group is pro-violence. If they are not reluctant to engage in violence to achieve their goals, what difference is there between Code Pink and the military they seem to loathe? What they are telling the world that violent means are justified so long as it supports their agenda, but such means are not acceptable for causes they find unworthy.
Truly amazing.
So the freak show is physically assaulting people while the police do nothing, huh? What a golden opportunity to kick ass and bust scumbags heads. Hope you folks are taking advantage of it.
The Berkley Town Council Room might be a good back-up site for Yuca Mountain.
It already puts out toxic emanantions.
Uh, Mr. President - national guard?
And the dried up bitter old hippies call the Marines terrorists?
The interesting trend in all of this is that the City Council screwed up in writing the letter as if it is unanimous or a majority opinion of Berkeley.
DOH! It’s not. This could be the high water mark for Code Pink. They don’t speak for us.
CODE PINK is the face of liberal fascism in America.
while I don’t put this past the pinks, I gotta think there were some harsh words exchanged before the incursion. Also I have trouble believing people as cowardly as the pinks would do more than passive aggressive assaults.
I wouldn’t put it past the emboldened code pinkos to do this at all. They have been given Carte Blanche to do whatever they please.
Free speech only applies to Anti-American Speech. Show your patriotism by showing how much you hate America. I wonder how many Che flags/shirts were there?
I have a civil rights/discrimination issue that a team of us were going to address the City Council about during the public comment period.
But now that City Hall is going to be mobbed with the unwashed herd of Code Stink (who believe they speak for all of Berkeley).
So our efforts to seek relief, as advocates for a Berkeley family, on this matter— well, these just have to wait because, once again, Berkeley considers itself an entity separate from the United States.
Good luck with that. Cha-CHING!
Yes. Code Pink is also the face of stupid idiot communist hippie morons in America.
I watched a House Armed Services Committee hearing a few months ago. The witness was Lt. Gen. Martin Dempsey, US Army.
The General was giving a very detailed and sober assessment of the Iraqi Security Forces, their training and progress toward independent operations. These are the Congressional hearing where you can learn a lot.
Sitting in the Peanut Gallery right behind the General, where the C-SPAN cameras had them in the frame when showing the general speak, was Medea Benjamin and some cohorts from Code Pink, wearing the stupid pink construction paper crown hats. When the General said anything positive, they shook their heads in the negative. When he detailed the challenges, or a lefty Congress critter would spew DNC talking points at the General, they would nod in the positive. Eventually, they leaped to their feet and yelled their idiocy, disrupting the hearing, as they always do. They were escorted out by the Capitol Police, but sure enough, the next hearing on the war I saw there they were again, right in the camera shot.
The look on General Dempsey’s face said it all. Just pathetic, embarrassing, and unworthy of a Congressional hearing about our National Security. I felt his pain. Yet they return to the gallery time and time again.
there is a huge pro-code pink crowd here. most arent part of code pink. the attackers were male.
also, the dynamics are such that the cops want to bust the “right wingers” not the lefties. the place is crawlin with ACLU.
Code Pink has a lot of stealth fascist back up here.
But they forgot one thing: the majority of Berkeleyans dont appreciate being spoken for by a “non-profit”.
Also, the Democrat Chairman of these committees always make a big deal about throwing them out, “You won’t disrupt MY hearing! Get them out of here!”.
Yet they always manage to get the best seats in the House, right in the C-SPAN shot the next time.
These people are tied with the Democrat Party. Let’s remember that in November.
You just have to wonder where these morons get the money to support these forays into the halls of Congress. Do they actually think they can affect the outcome of testimony by being visible and loud? Rhetorically asked of course. That is the problem…they beLIEve in their demented world view.
It may be time to file a federal civil rights action against the police agencies in these jurisdictions.
I will help.
I’ve got a one word answer for you, DEMOCRATS.
I think his name is Steve Sauerberg. I met him at a Laura Ingraham book signing. He seems like a Professional, well informed, dedicated conservative. Not sure what his chances are, but probably not real good in a liberal state like this.
I don’t know how Durbin keeps getting re-elected. 14 years in the House, and we’re coming up on the end of his second term in the Senate. He’s like the crapweasel poster-boy.
It just occurred to me that this tactic for liberals is not new.
Before Operation Iraqi Freedom, the omni-present rabble rousers were the Jersey Girls.
First Congressional hearings, then the 9-11 Comission hearings. All to embarrass the administrations of President Bush and Mayor Guiliani. Same act.
If the Berkeley police stand aside while conservative or pro troop demonstrators are being assaulted. Maybe the next time they should staple their protest signs to baseball bats.
and the number of kefiyas or whatever those Palestinian rags are called that people wrap around their faces to “protect” their identities.
it is chic in B-town to wear that garbage.
every lefty issue u can think of is tied to the Code Pink bandwagon.
it hasnt worked yet. this looks like a death rattle effort to get up off the deck. their own media isnt covering the war anymore…but they are going to cover the federal funding getting pulled.
this could bode well for securing the borders….”Sanctuary” cities could lose federal funding…..obey federal laws or lose your funding.
here in Berkeley, the City would say “Oh it’s no big deal. We’ll just raise property taxes on the real terrorists- homeowners.” That’s what the liberal fascists like to call all property owners, just because there are people who became homeless somewhere else and then moved to Berkeley and become part of the political machinery here.
Bear1909, sound like you are an underground pro-America insurgent leader there in the Berserkley area.
Be careful, bro!
Bear:
Doing his part to keep Berkley safe for the rest of us. GOD Bless him!
#74: This kind of hubris is going to get some of these demagogues here sacked. The Mayor might be goin to court over this. And his whole political career is going to boil down to four words: Listened to Code Pink.
#75: Soap! It’s a small one. But there are 1000s of us here in Berkeley.
Bear - got your back down here in Stark country
I thought Bear was the bay area commandante of the Malkin Six.
You know the phrase I love in that Berkeley agenda?
Financial Implications: None
Wanna bet?
Sure, Medea. Unless you and your band of bra-eschewing sisters happen to want to start some mess with people who don’t agree with you. Then it’s okay to get physical, right?
Hypocrites.
During WWII, the French called them enemy collaborators and dealt with them accordingly.
If Berserkely Democrats are going to suffer consequences over supporting Code Stupid, then the RNC should damn well make this a national issue in November. Hang Code Stupid around the necks of all these uber-libs running for re-election, the Dem Presidential candidates, and especially the so-called “Blue Dog Dems” down here in Dixie. They will have to distance themselves from their own Speaker, or run with Code Stupid in Dixie, which means you might as well not run.
They made this sandwich, now make them take a big bite!
Brian72, #82, you are absolutely right. How about it Michelle? We don’t have access to significant voices in Congress, could you suggest this to someone?
JOIN CODE PINK
Travel to protected lands
Meet people trying to live their lives
AND ANNOY THEM
Thanks Bob. Might I venture a guess that Uncle Sam talked you into jumping out of perfectly good airplanes?
Don’t you just love the Democrat’s highly touted “bi-partisanism?”
The liberal leadership, both in Berkeley, and in the US houses, are going to be responsible for the coming deaths, and injuries of the protestors (on either side.)
I have NEVER seen, in my years in local law enforcement, police officers fail to protect anyone who was attacked. If this reported non-action by the BPD, and CHP is proven to be true, the heirarchy of those “law enforcement (or maybe in this case, law enfarcement) agencies” should be sacked IMMEDIATELY for issuing orders contrary to public safety. That they told their charges to do nothing is outrageous, and yes, un-American!!!
Nope, I could have done without the pics much like I could do without the pinko’s!
There is also a disgusting video of them on the CNN site but I cant seem to get a link to it to work
And I am shocked - SHOCKED that CNN would display a picture of Code Pinkos and not of MAF - NOT!
That CodeStupid hag with that sign should be a campaign ad.
Make it now!
You know I get the play on words code pink or code pinko whatever…but has anyone else noticed, this is not a flattering color for these women? Pink really? I bet if we polled them, none of them dated in school or went to proms and dances…thus they are overcompensating wearing prom pink now? It is as good an explanation as any other, for their behavior
You are right. Not flattering at all. Do these people even bathe?
I’ve decided I’m referring to them from now on as CodeStupid. More accurate in my view.
Get rid of all our military. If we have a disagreement with some people, pass the joint, and give them “a hug”. All will be well. Go back to your “opium dens” code pink.
If CodeStupid decided to do a strip show for peace, I would give them $100 to stay dressed and go away.
Apparently it was privatized by the council and contracted out to Code Pink, zorro.
They just didn’t think it would be in Berkeley…….
Brian72 -
Talked me into it? No, after I graduated high school, I went down and volunteered to jump out of perfectly good airplanes! And helicopters. And a balloon (part of the qualification procedure for Belgian jump wings). Except on the “black hole” night jumps, it was the best part of being in the Army. Of course, playing with machineguns, LAW rockets, recoilless rifles, etc., was pretty fun too.
Two things I never volunteered for - jumping out of perfectly good airplanes, and going to sea in a ship designed to sink(submarines)
Something has to be done about this. A city taking sides and refusing protection to a group they politically disagree with. It’s anarchy.
Members of Code Pink are traitors who hate the military. They can’t hide now.
I hear ya Barry!
They are a truly disgusting group of people. Traitors gone wild in a city of traitors.
And my friends down in the Bay Area wonder why I’ve vowed that I’ll never, ever again move back to the Bay Area.
Utterly shameful. Cutting federal earmarks should be just the start for condemning the actions (or lack thereof) of the B.C.C.
I was paid more to stay in the airplane and enjoyed the fun of playing the biggest real video game on earth. Refueling aircraft in flight is anything but boring. Ever eat an F-4? I almost did on more than one occasion.
Traveled most of the world too, did get to met interesting people, but never had to kill them. Wonder what I was doing wrong according to Code Pinko? The hold hags really need to get into the 21st Century and quit using the old 60s slogans those of us who lived through that era are very tired of.
In the dictionary next to the term “idiots” there should be a map of Berkeley.
Those people need to be put on notice their insane rhetoric and actions will not stand.
I thought so, Bob. That was just a little Blackfive style teasing there. There is lots of funny intra-service ribbing over there between Paratroopers, grunts, Jarheads and zoomies. I assumed correctly that 509th is parachute airborne unit. That takes a tough guy! Thanks for your service, and stay engaged in this fight at home!
I am so sick of the sentiment that people only sign up for the military because they were duped. It plays right into the same, very erroneous, thinking that military service members are all dumber than a bag of hammers.
The truth of the matter is Recruiters are looking for people to fill high needs positions. No employer on the face of the planet is only going to highlight the negatives and drawbacks. So, do they paint military service in a favorable light? Well of course they do.
We are supposed to be informed consumers and take responsibility for ourselves. That is what responsible recruits do. If you are so dumb that a Recruiter can lie to you in this day and tell you something like “you won’t be deployed” and you believe him, then you are too dumb for this tax payer’s Army. Boot to the head for you!
Further more, the citizens of Berkeley and other cities can rest assured in the knowledge that their babies are at higher risk of being taken from them by wild dingos than they do having them kidnapped by uniformed Soldiers, Marines, Sailors and the like. They don’t kidnap kids and they don’t “Send our kids over there.” Our kids join voluntarily and they gladly go to serve their Country!
Assume all the usual disclaimers, caveats, and common sense qualifications BUT…
At what point do we wake up fully and recognize that this is beyond simple “protest” and has moved to complete anarchy??? Or more accurately, a secessionist movement?
These people are formally and clearly rejecting the authority of the Federal government. Why are their actions even being tolerated?????
Bob / cpodug / boomer:
Spent most of my time with a glorious desk job in Korea. Of course, that changed in time and I found myself dismounted on the Syrian / Iraqi border at one point.
The military is kind of funny like that. I missed the first year of my marriage and I have to admit I was not excited or happy about going, but I went and I did my part and I’m glad I did. I grew up alot in that time, and learned a bunch about the world and myself.
I can’t say enough bad things about code wacko bat-s**t and the rest of these fools in Berkley. Might it interest them to know that I met exciting and unusual people in Korea and ultimately married one of them.
As for Iraq, I served alongside many exciting and unusual people (as a trainer for the Iraqi Army) and those people wanted the terrorists dead as much as I did.
They (code screaming mind-f**k) have absolutely no understanding of what actually goes on in the real world and they are complete dupes for propaganda that UBL wishes he could come up with, in fact he does.
It is very sad, but our nation is tearing itself apart. These aging hippies need to die off before the wounds can heal, I only hope this war doesnt truly give birth to a new generation of hippies.
Right on! My cousin just retired from the Air Force after a 25 year career serving Vice Presidents Bush 41 and Gore, then Presidents Bush 41, Clinton and Bush 43 aboard Air Force One, running the communications in that hump right behind the cockpit. Now that he’s retired from the military, Verizon made him a VP and he’s working on the future Marine One Presidential Helicopter program. Sounds like your average dunce who got duped, huh?
For the same reasons that they could march through the streets of San Fran carrying a sign encouraging soldiers to shoot their officers. There was a day when sedition like that would have landed you in prison… today it is considered free speech. Maddening, isn’t it?
Wow. I just popped over to Blackfive and saw this e-mail to them from some former hippie idiot. Check it out.
There may be hope for our Republic yet, folks.
cpodug— my man! these people are un-bee-leaveable.
when they decided to rewrite history they went all the way back to Creation and eliminated God. But when it comes time to show they have some soul, they trot out the black liberal female to sing about God blessing America….and some songs about a He God…lie to the base, lie to the masses, and hang the opposition.
Do they know that the French Revolution was the first fascist movement in Western history?
The founding Fathers of the USA knew that a godless “peoples” movement was not a just movement. Yet, this is Code Pink’s inspiration.
Pass the ammunition.
Gotta say this, Bear - they’re taking some kind of movement, but it sure does stink!
zeroangel I know how you feel about being separated from your bride. My honeymoon was interrupted to swap out an SR-71 from RAF Mildenhall. Was supposed to be a 3 day trip 2 weeks later I came home due to delays to weather, the SR-71 breaking right after we refueled it, launched it out after a recovery maintenance team came in, and finally sent it on its way across the pond. I broke her in right, but she was also active duty at the time so she was a pretty good sport about it. We spent many holidays and special family days apart just like any other military family. I would come back tomorrow on active duty if they would want this old broken down Senior NCO, but will settle for working for them fighting the battle of the budget as a simple servant.
Sure hope Code Pink does not come up to protest at the gates of Mountain Home AFB. I seriously doubt they would make it through the town of Mountain Home 10 miles from the base. Like everyone says here the Owyhee Mountains are a great place to leave a body. Yep, I live in a very pro-military town that holds the largest parade in the state in mid-September to show their support for the troops. If you are every up this way come on buy for the show and free barbeque too. Patriots will always be welcome.
I remember a similar type of assault on conservatives over illegal immigration by liberals when stationed in southern California in the early 90s. Those supporting the rule of law were physically injured and law enforcement did absolutely nothing to stop it. Just business as usual in the People’s Republic of Kalifornia. I feel sorry for Bear1909 and the rest of the readers and commenter’s that have to put up with all this uncivil stupidity and breach of MAF civil rights.
Did any of the Dems match Rush’s ebay offer to MC-LEF yet?
That city is pure evil, we should have spec op guys round up eager Jihadist with promises of getting on US Soil, and let them loose there. Its a win win to me. Jihadist kill themselves AND take out allies we seem unable to arrest or punish.
bear1909:
At the risk of getting off topic I DO want to highlight one thing that I firmly believe:
Religion (or even a lack of one) to me, has no bearing on politics and is a personal thing.
Is it true that many avowed aetheists are liberals? Yes. But I believe that is not because aetheism is a purely communist or liberal attribute. I think that the agnostics (aethism-light) or the full blown aethiests in the ranks of the firmly Republican are loathe to let thier views be known for two reasons:
1. Not wanting to be lumped in with libs.
2. Not wanting to alienate thier political allies.
I dont really see the connection between “Godlessness” and Code Pink. In fact, I am willing to bet there are a number of Code Pink wackos that think they are doing “what Jesus would do.”
In any case, hope I don’t derail the conversation into a theist vs. aetheist thing. I just wanted to make a small point. I honestly think that the founding fathers meant religious freedom also meant freedom to be an aetheist.
NOPE.
SR-71.
Mach 3.5
90,000ft.
(Drooling)
I just had a long conversation with a very accomplished human rights activist who lives here in Berkeley. He has written many articles against militarism, although he knows who h
