Romney to endorse McCain

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 14, 2008 01:36 PM

1mittmac.jpg So CNN is reporting: “CNN’s Dana Bash reports that former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will endorse senator John McCain. The endorsement is expected to happen at a Boston event at 3:30 p.m. ET today.

Now, that’s a Valentine’s Day gift.

Wonder if Mitt will need the People’s Cube John McCain nose plugs

Here’s the problem, and it’s been a problem for the last 4 elections. Whom do I dislike the least? I despise AlGore, so I voted for Bush. Kerry was the absolute worst choice ever, so I voted Bush. Now? It’s McCain/Obama. Obama is a man with great words but no substance, and McCain’s done his best to completely alienate the base of the Republican party. And now, the GOP is choosing McCain in primaries, which makes me want to hurl.

So here’s the dilemma– do I want McCain, who will damage the GOP brand for years to come, or do I want Obama, who will do inexorable damage for the next 4/8 years, but will highlight the utter failures of the Dems and their policies.

You see, if we elect Obama, we get the Senate/House back in 4/2 years. If we elect McCain, we have him in for 4/8 and a blue Congress.

Which choice to I dislike the least?

Similar experience here. As an independant I have blamed the Democrats for Bush. Bush could have easily been beaten, but they put up Gore and Kerry against him. Now the Democrats have united behind a candidate without the obvious negatives (but no experience, ala Jimmy Carter). Foreign leaders and terrorists will have a field day with him. He will be chasing CO2 rather than dangerous people. In fact just as Iran brought down Jimmy Carter, I will predict that Iran will bring down Osama Obama.

Just because it occured in ‘94 doesn’t mean it would happen in 2010. No one can predict the future. Not you, not me, not the Democrats. The same logic says that because we lost Congress in ‘06 and endured two miserable years of Democrat control, we’ll get Congress back in ‘08. It’s a sure thing that Republican voices will be tuned out by a Democratic controlled White House and Congress. By not voting or for, God forbid, voting for a Democratic candidate, you’d be cutting off your nose to spite your face. I guarantee that if we let this ship sink, we’ll be drowning in taxes and more regulation that you can shake a stick at. Add to that the willingness of the opposition to appease those who wish to destroy us or control us and you can kiss our safety and eventually, our autonomy goodbye. For all his flaws, I believe that McCain has the toughness we need for tough times.

You would have to get a candidate to agree to it first or it would’nt do any good, doing that would be a monumental task since most will tow the party line, you might be able to get Ron Paul but your going to get people to shoot their big toe off before they’ll vote for him. :)

Both, actually. Although you seem to be giving Romeny the McCain treatment seeing as: 1) all Romney’s votes in regards to choice/life issues as governor can be described as pro-life and 2) the $700 million increase in fees was done so that the taxpayer was paying the difference between what a organization was paying for a service and what said service actually costed. For instance, take state highway signs that advertise food and gas at an exit. Burger King pays $10 to get their name on the sign, but it costs $20 to put the sign up. The taxpayer would pay the difference prior to the increase in fees. Now, the person who wants the service pays the full cost, while the taxpayer will now only pay the difference in cost if he actually goes to Burger King.

    From the AP

Republican campaign dropout Mitt Romney agreed Thursday to endorse Sen. John McCain for the party’s presidential nomination and ask his national convention delegates to swing behind the likely nominee, according to officials familiar with the decision.

Dropout?!?! Wow, this AP story makes Romeny look like a guy who couldn’t pass geometry.

Everyone should take great pride in John McCain. He is a man of extraordinary valor, courage and honor. When McCain’s airplane was shot down by Soviet missiles, he nearly drowned and only by his sheer willpower did he survive. His Communist captors would not give him medical attention although his arm was shattered. For two years, John McCain was in constant pain and in physical isolation. He was subject to every form of psychological warfare. And then he was offered a Faustian bargain. Give us a statement, maybe a video, and you are as free as a bird. And yet this extraordinary man of courage refused. He never flinched. He never betrayed his fellow POWs. And when McCain refused the deal, he had no way of knowing how many more years of prison he would have to suffer through. It could be ten, twenty year, he had no way of knowing. That is the measure of this extraordinary man. Everyone should have admiration and support for this great man.

Could this be little more than a numbers game? Romney hands over his delegates to McCain, McCain is only a couple hundred short, Huck loses his chance at being the first second and finally nods out?

Probably something to that. Romney must be endorsing now because Huckabee is staying in the race.

Romney stated in his CPAC speach that he wanted the party to unify behind a single candidate. He was probably hoping Huckabee would take the hint and also drop out.

Since Huckabee didn’t and seems to be in the race to the end, Romney now chooses to endorse McCain making Huckabee’s continuing rather pointless, except to waste energy and money in the remaining primaries.

Uniting behind McCain, like it or not, saves money, time and energy which can be saved to use in the inevitable battle with whoever wins the Democratic nominee.

Hopefully, we can all sit back and enjoy watching Obama and Clinton slug it out, exhausting their time, money and emotion in the remaining primaries, right through to the Democratic convention.

As far as I’m concerned Larraby McCrazy sat on his ass in Hanoi for five years while the rest of us fought the NVA, why didn’t he try to escape if he’s such a great hero, others did, or at least tried. Every body who’s been in the military knows he got his medals for just becoming a POW;there’s something perverse in that if you ask me. Now let me get to Romney; I guess they offered Mitt some high mucketymuck position in the party, and he bent over and took it you know where. What all these RINOs don’t realize is there isn’t go to be any party left if that lunatic gets elected. If your worried about S.C. Judges appointments, just think of the gang of 14 to know what you’ll get under McCrazy, all we can do is hope the old b@$tards hold on another four years.I can’t believe any of you on this site are actually thinking of voting for a man who came right out and said he plans to make twenty or thirty million criminals legal. Have you all lost your minds? If you do plan on voting for the nutjob, do the rest of us a favor and stop refering to yourselve as conservatives, that makes me want to puke.

29erkilo.. it is a big swallow to accept mcpain, you’re right. and your assertions are my fears, too. this is the only consolation i have: if, big if here, mcpain wins he can only serve one term. Face it, he is 71 now by the time he takes office he will be 72. after 4 years he’ll be 76.. NO WAY he can run at 76. So, whoever is the VP will have a better chance in 2012. Anything to not watch Huck The Schmuck again in 2012.

ANYTHING! I WOULD EVEN HOLD MY NOSE AND VOTE FOR THE OLD COOT, if a true conservative were his running mate. Best thing could happen is the Old Coot not be able to finish out a full term and we get the Conservative VP take over.

    ONE CAN DREAM>>

but to live through the nightmare that is Huck the Schmuck again in 2012, well, I just may do something really drastic..
