Actually, Toledo gets some kudos for offering a straightforward apology to the Marines after the city’s jerk mayor ordered them to leave because they might “frighten people.”
Check out the Toledo Blade’s photo gallery of the pro-troops rally in front of the Toledo City Hall here.
Berkeley and its enablers, on the other hand, remains an unrepentant disgrace. Cinammon Stillwell spotlights bad Berkeley police behavior.
The NRSC has a new vid out:
The Cal Patriot has a follow-up report and video of Berkeley High School moonbats–the next generation of troop-haters:
Meantime, a West Virginia city council has passed a resolution condemning Berkeley and calling on its representatives to support Jim DeMint’s Semper Fi act cutting off earmarks to the Marine-trashing town:
The Delbarton City Council is ready to go to war with Berkeley, Cal.
Apparently the Berkeley City Council told the Marine Recruiting office to get out of its downtown office. The city officials also voted to give the protest group “Code Pink parking space outside of the recruitment office and urged them to impede, passively or actively, the work of the Marine Corps. recruiters.”
Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates agrees with the decision. Bates is quoted as saying that the Marines “don’t belong in Berkeley.
Delbarton councilman Albert Totten is appalled by this decision and asked the city council Monday to pass a resolution to send a letter to West Virginia Senators John Rockefeller and Robert Byrd urging them to back the Semper Fi Act of 2008.
This bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations Bill and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps.
It was introduced by U.S. Senators Jim [DeMint](R-South Carolina), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia), Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) and David Vitter (R-Louisiana).
“I have no problem with anyone against the war but I have a real problem with what Berkeley did,” said Totten. “If every city council said the armed forces can’t recruit here, we would be in a heap of trouble.”

That video of them blocking the door is disgusting.
What’s wrong with Toledo and Berkeley? Liberalism and hatred run amok.
And what’s up with all those death-monger sailors in Annapolis!? They’re going to frighten away the crab-loving tourists!
In all seriousness, I will never understand how some people can’t separate their pacifism with the need for an armed forces and the love those soliders deserve.
The Berkeley protesters wear orange jumpsuits to cover their brown shirts.
There has always been pacifists here; many served as medics/corpsmen, and did proudly. I have 2 books written by 2 “pacifist” corpsmen, who won medals. These men wouldn’t dream of what Berkeley is doing. It isn’t pacifism there, it’s anti-American anarchy. There is a point where one town can cross “the line”. They did and should be ostracized from the rest of the country. If they want to get their moment on the news, doing something stupid, make it a painful pay-back.
On February 14th, 2008 at 11:21 am,
You characterization of those protesters as pacifists is an affront to real pacifists. I’ve never seen pacifists grab anyone by the jacket and manhandle them.
I just can’t get over the cops doing nothing! This is crazy, but consider the place. HS kids should be in class not our harrasing young people who have the courage to defend their immature behavior by wanting to join the Corps. God bless the Marines.
Litmus Test
Who would me most likely to veto the Semper Fi Act if he were in office today?
A. President Obama
B. President McCain
If you chose A., do you still intend to sit out the general election?

I wonder - did all the high school students agree with Bezerkely? Were there any that sided with the Corps?
If so - were they allowed to protest on the other side?
Did the teachers ask their views, or simply pack up the class, give them signs and call it a lesson in political awareness 101?
JRL - the answers to your questions are: yes, no, no, no, and yes.
They dont give the HS students a chance to think for themselves, they want to control them and their choices and dont give a flying fig about em. just more robots for the code pink mold. hypocrites and a$$hats.
When I was in HS I thought for myself. Then again, I went to HS in Fairfax Co. Va. Much much better schools.
The Berkeley policeman who refused to enforce the law by remaining neutral has placed himself in jeopardy. He and, by extension, the city council have engaged in a conspiracy to deny the civil rights of Americans who wish to enter a federal facility. Since the ACLU obviously won’t help, maybe some conservative legal defense group could pitch in.
The enablers on the left in Congress MUST be forced to go on record about this.
Remember Obama voted against the FISA bill. Maybe some of the American people will come to their senses….assuming there is any sense in them.
I caught a senior councilhag Donna Spring on the Medved show yesterday and it goes much deeper than just the Marines. She insists that there is a huge rape problem in the military, Americans are at heart rapists I suppose is her view. She thinks Bush and Cheney should be tried by the UN for war crimes. She believes that America is the real terrorist nation. Combine that with the teachers there bringing their pupils in masks to rant about big bad America and the cops support for not only this cause but islamist causes as well and you have a real den of snakes. It is unbelievable that loyal patriotic Americans monies will find its way in to their pockets. Talk about funding your own demise. Don’t forget, what happens in berzerkly doesn’t necessarily stay there, Vegas it isn’t. I can’t imagine living somewhere that when the police show up you find yourself saying, oh no. And I cannot comprehend sending your kid to a school that’s sends them home looking like some train robber out of the past. Oh and the councilhag is a green, a yellowish green green. She support McKinney for Pres followed by Obama, change baby!
When I saw that video of the leftnuts blocking the recruiting office’s door, I kept wishing one or more of the folks trying to get in or out had actively exercised their right to move about unimpeded. Geez!
This was a class in’How To Make an A**hole of Yourself in Public”.I’m sure their parents are so proud. All of those kids probably got extra credit for participating.
I bet those Berkeley high school students have some proud “fu**ing” parents. *sigh*
Along comes the next generation of nuts.
I wonder if this fits within the scope of the Alliance Defense Fund’s work.
I can’t thank the good citizens of Ohio enough that took the time to go out in the freezing cold to demand the Mayor of Toledo and city council to apologize for not allowing the Marines to train for urban combat, which when called to active duty will save many of their lives. At least they had the good sense to obey the will of the people, now they need to come together to get rid of that clueless Mayor.
As for the rapidly aging hippies in Berkley blocking the entrance to the US Marine Corps Officer Recruiting Station they are in violation of at least OSHA safety regulations and laws in blocking the entrance to the building. I am so glad I wasn’t there I would have had a difficult time not pounding some sense into those liberal scumbags. I am really getting tired of these people and the video of the useless idiots from the High School using the old worn out 60s mantra for opposing the war. Buy a clue this is an all volunteer force and has been since about 1974. The sad thing is the California Education System is so broken most of these kids don’t have the basic skills to pass the Armed Forces Entrance Examinations anyway and in this all volunteer force we wouldn’t want anyone that uneducated to begin with.
I hope Senator DeMint wins his fight to strip pork barrel funds from Berkley. At least by forcing the Surrendercrats to show their true colors in a recorded vote will be more ammunition to get the average citizen fired up enough to possibly unseat them as the November elections approach.
I agree, Boomer. I know if I tried to access the door and someone put a hand on me, I would consider it assault and battery and defended myself…showing 1 or 2 peaceniks the reality of the world. It would be all on camera showing the assault first, before the defense.

Berkley High……
Call and ask them know how proud they are of their “students” and their “protests”
My son is a corpsman in the United States Navy and according to him the terroists could WIPE Berkley and San Fransicko off the map and not one single person in the Navy would CARE!!!
Never mind. I found the answer to my own curiosities.
I’m sure there has to be somebody out there that would take up the case against Berkeley.
From which Berkeley High School did the students come, this one or this one?
Those potential Marine recruits are definately showing that they are a cut above the dregs around them. Not only are they willing to join in the defense of this country, but they also showed the kind of restraint so many in the media like to say our troops lack by not laying those retards out on the ground. I just got my tax refund and some PTO, I think I might have to get a flight to Berkeley and help with the counter protest.
If any of y’all have called your Senator to ask if they placed the hold, please post what they said here. I’m tracking who denies it - and especially who refuses to deny it - on my website.
Also, if you do call, please don’t leave them an “out” - the current favorite response is “we can’t tell you because it’s supposed to be anonymous.” Ask them to deny, for the record, placing the hold. Then post it here so I can update the list.
If they give you the “anonymous” line and you’re feeling snarky, ask them why they care more about upholding a sneaky Senate tradition than supporting the troops - and why haven’t they consponsored the bill?!
“We’re trying to remain as neutral as possible.”
No idiot, by letting people break the law you are refusing to do your job.
Just another example of the grand liberal lie that they “oppose the war, but support the troops.” What horse sh*t!
Today, I was listening to a radio interview with Navy Commander (Retired) Paul Galanti who spent seven years as a P.O.W. in Vietnam. He was asked if he ever had to deal with protesters spitting on him. He replied that he had been spared that indignity, but if he had, the protester would have to learn to spit through the gapping hole where his front teeth used to be. I expect that the Marines in Berkley will respond to verbal assaults with appropriate restraint. But if the protesters want to take it up a notch, they better hope that their Hillarycare dental benefits are up to date.
Enlighten me, why would a Senator from New Mexico throw a roadblock up? Perhaps if light is put on the Berkely earmarks, he fears for his?
All it takes is one flag officer with a pair to get the ball rolling. Lindsey Graham is an Air Force Reserve JAG officer. You’d think he’d be the SC Senator out in front on this issue.
Texas Tiger,
Linsey hasn’t got any, except to call us conservatives biggots last summer because we didn’t want shamnesty.
An honorable mention needs to go to the city of Kennesaw, GA. Their city council passed a bill condemning Berkeley before it was cool.
A note from Melaniy Morgan “freedomwatch.org.
It’s great that there are other city councils around the country that stand in stark contrast to Berkeley. But, don’t these city councils have some local government business to which they all should be tending? I haven’t run across a municipality, yet, that doesn’t have its own local problems and should be dealing with them, instead of worrying about things on the national and/or international stages.
Congress and state legislatures do a fine job keeping those arenas screwed up on their own, without local govnerment stirring it too. *sigh*
Yeah! Now, that’s what needed to happen. I hope they clean Berkeley’s clock and coiffeurs.
Well Congress has all the really big issues covered like steroids in baseball and football teams videotaping each other so the local governments just have to pick what is left.
/
Well, you have a point there. Somebody has to deal with the small issues like GWOT, illegal immigration, treason, etc., while Congress handles the really pressing issues like whether or not someone was injected with HGH and/or steriods in the MLB.
Thanks for reminding me, Grunt. *sigh*
“Some of us have jobs.” HAH!
Maybe we should dial up OBL and ask him who *he* wants as POTUS… or we can wait for his next rambling video endorsement.
Exactly right. If this were an abortion clinic and women were being prevented from entering, do you think the Berkeley police would remain neutral? Not a chance!
I say congress should reinstitute the draft in all areas where recruitment centers are unwelcome. Then we will see how many High School students show up to protest in the future.
Grunt, #34,
You mean the same Kennesaw, GA that passed a law making it mandatory for every able-bodied head-of-household to own a firearm and ammunition for said firearm (barring, of course, those who conscientously object, and persons barred federally from owning a firearm)?
According to his Website… Here is his Senator Bingaman’s e-mail addy. I haven’t tried it yet as everytime I start to compose one, I relize every 4th or 5th word is an Expletive
senator_bingaman@bingaman.senate.gov
Senators are not ROYALTY…..
They work for us!
How is it possible to have an ANONYMOUS hold on the Semper Fi 2008 act? or ANY other proposed legislation?
Once again Rusty gets it wrong about pacifist but he loves the military and wants them to take transgender individuals as well so in his world he knows what pacifism is. Whatever, there are many corpsmen who and others who serve in the medical field who are pacifists but whatever.
My feelings about this outrage in Toledo and beserkly is disgust with these pigs. I understand that people in Ohio did get on the mayor and that is wonderful as are those who also go up against the stinko pinkos.
Agreed nice to see the House has so much free time as to waste on this idiotic steroid mess.
Anyone hear from Bear on his mtg with the councilmember?
I sent the following email to Senator Bingaman, PLEASE LET SENATOR BINGAMAN KNOW ABOUT OUR DISPLEASURE WITH HIS ACTIONS:
Dear Senator Bingaman,
I am a regular citizen who has been writing my Senators and Representatives in Oklahoma to proclaim that Americans are tired of our Military being called murderers and rapists. The idea of protest is what makes America great, however, if this was only about peaceful protests in Berkeley, then why give a parking place in front of the recruiting office to one group only, this more than tinges on harassment. Berkeley City Council provided preferential treatment to one group over others and because they are purposely trying to block people from entering the Military Recruiting they are violating the civil rights of citizens of the USA. You as a Senator are asked to raise your hand and pledge to do what is in the best interest of our country, thereby also insuring it’s citizens are protected by the best Military possible. Berkeley should not allow protesters to break laws and harass the very people that will be there for their city in case of a disaster and whose brave men and women will help even those that have spit, scorned, screamed, defaced property, and hurled profanities at them.
This is an all volunteer military, Senator Bingaman, and your blocking of the vote against Earmarks for this city (a vote that has been called for by thousands of the citizens of the USA) is a slap in the face to true debate (along with misspending our taxpayer funds) and lack of consideration for the on going protection of its citizens. As you know, each individual decides to be in the American Military, and they have made an informed choice of their own to do so. Young men and Women are not being coerced or forced to join, therefore, you (by blocking the vote) are basically telling City Governments that it is alright for them to tell the Military Recruiters that they are “unwanted, uninvited guests.”
I, as a citizen of the United States will continue to voice my opinion against this lawbreaking, inconsiderate, unfair “rules” to every Senator, Representative, Presidential Candidate and anyone else who will listen. I expect that you will listen to the the majority of the people (you know, WE THE PEOPLE) and reconsider your intentions concerning this subject. This is not about politics,,,,,,THIS Mr. Senator is about justice, and protection of the American people by the faithful and brave Military men and women who can and do lay down their lives for us all.
If Berkeley’s City Council or Code Pink or any other group feel so strongly about disagreements with the administration and the Military, instead of punishing the individuals who are only serving, why don’t they take those arguments to Congress, to the Pentagon, to the people who can actually change the policies (People like you, Senator Bingaman)? Is it fair for City Councils to attack people in the low level positions (those military people who are only doing their jobs)? People who cannot change policy if they wanted to. This is what makes these “rules” or “resolutions” particularly demeaning to me, and is why Berkeley needs to be held responsible financially for their desire to not want the military in their midst.
Fair protest is one thing, giving a parking spot to one particular point of view and then sending a horrible message to these BRAVE MEN and WOMEN that they are not welcome is not only not fair, it is beyond the pale, and your actions in blocking the Semper Fi bill proprosed by Senator DeMint is also in that same hue.
Well put, #9.
Sent to Sen. Bingaman (with cc: Sen. Demint, Sen. Diane Feinstein and Sen. Boxer):
Dear Senator Bingaman,
On your website (http://bingaman.senate.gov/) you have announced that:
I have consistently supported efforts to provide local, state, and federal law enforcement with the tools they need to combat crime. To keep our communities safe, we must not only be tough on crime, but also look for ways to address the root causes of illegal behavior. I have led efforts to provide additional resources for youth drop-out prevention programs, drug courts, and rehabilitation and treatment services. I have also constantly fought to uphold the rights enshrined in our Constitution and to protect the civil liberties that are the foundation of our democracy.
In light of your successful attempt to block Senator DeMints’ Semper Fi bill (cutting off Berkeley earmarks) as an amendment to the Indian Health Care bill, I will say you are, at best, confused, and at worst, ignorant of the spirit of the Constitutions enumeration of this countries civil right.
Senator DeMints bill has been promulgated in an effort to punish a City Council that has systematically blocked the civil rights of the Marine Corp and those who wish to support their mission. The Berkley City Council has transgressed the law of the land, and, as I see it, you are complicit in their efforts to debase the freedoms specifically delineated in the Constitution.
Therefore, I call on you, Sir, to be a strong leader. A leader who would forgo patrician politics and take up the banner of one who truly and firmly has the Constitution as a guideline in all of his dealings within the Senate. Until then, I will continue to see you as an obstructionist Senator, more concerned with maintaining the status quo, and one who remains firmly wedded to bitter and divisive patrician politics. And, in closing, I say that sort of politics will be the downfall of this country.
If you truly have concern for the American people as your goal, please reconsider your actions in regards to the Semper Fi bill. Remember, We The People DO have a long memory, and actions speak louder than words.
I tried calling, and no answer.
What a surprise.
