The 3 are perceived to occur together for a variety of reasons (which I got into in another thread) that include:

1) Republican atheists unwilling to “come out” because of the implications.

2) “Atheists” that are only atheist because it is the hip and liberal thing to do.

3) Liberals (and those liberals that are atheists) tend to be annoying, loud, and get a lot of press.

Atheists do not believe in an afterlife, this life is all they have.

What reason do they have to not be hedonists?

Several:

1) Cultural conformity (the least “noble” of reasons, but still a reason).
2) Morality and self-respect.
3) The need to accomplish something and “make something of yourself,” that is to aspire to “something better.”

One can believe that this life is all they have and NOT desire to bury themselves in p*ssy and drugs because its fun. There are a lot of things in life that are much more fulfilling with or without an afterlife. If one thinks otherwise, maybe that person should question why they NEED the idea of an afterlife to encourage them to lead a fulfilling and moral life.
