Nancy Pelosi gets cozy with lobbyists

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 25, 2008 11:35 AM

Ray Robison does the work the NYTimes won’t do.

Cleanest, most ethical Congress in history? Yadda times three.

My beef isn’t with the fact that she deals with pharma lobbyists. It’s the conflict of interest, lack of disclosure, media double standards, and, yes, the hypocrisy.

But that’s Washington for you.

Brian Faughnan at the Weekly Standard adds:

It’s central to House ethics rules that a Member of Congress may not use his or her official position for personal gain. Ms. Pelosi was aware of her stake in the company. Rather than intercede on their behalf, it would have been more appropriate to divest her stake in the company. Instead, she used her office to push a policy that would fatten her wallet.

At the core, this is what the Keating 5 scandal was about: politicians using their official positions to change government policy to protect a personal interest. The elected officials involved are still tarnished for having been associated with it, and the matter is sure to be brought up again this year as Senator McCain seeks the White House. Will Pelosi be risisng to his defense?

They don’t have to be the most ethical in history, only more ethical than the Republicans 2000 - 2006. That’s far easier. Look at the score of indicted congressmen and congresswomen since 2000. It’s one Democrat (Jefferson) to lots of Republicans.

Why, if it’s ethics and Dems let’s put up the old canard of the Republicans (who are no longer the majority party in Congress). ‘Cause, gee, lgm, that means you would be defending these Dems, and nobody but a Dim himself would know better.

Oh, and have you resigned your position with the Troll Liberation Front, yet? Let us all know when you’re actually serious about discussing the ethics issues of both parties, okay… being that you’re bipartisan and all.

There is a scary resemblance. I’d rather go for the older Count Dracula Bram Stoker’s version myself. Now, she does bear an alarming resemblance to the Emperor but to Jabba? I always felt that Jabba was misunderstood. It’s really hard to get a break when you’re a slug-like alien kingpin on a lawless planet. Poor Jabba….

I asked him when he was going to write an article about all of Chris Dodd’s contributions from the scecurities industry and Senator Dodd’s legislation that favored the securities industry? Show me a specific letter Obama wrote to a federal regulator threatening him if he did not do a specific favor for a specific client. That’s what McCain did.
