Soros-backed “grass roots” attack groups target McCain
I love how Reuters calls the Soros-sponsored operatives uniting against John McCain “grass-roots:”
Democratic grass roots organizations on Monday launched a $20 million campaign to defeat Republican John McCain in the 2008 U.S. presidential election by focusing their attention on rising costs of the Iraq war.
The campaign, supported by former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, aims to link war spending with the ailing U.S. economy.
“There’s a great concern and anxiety, angst out there among most Americans about their economic security,” Edwards said in a teleconference from North Carolina. “All these things are made much worse by concern about what’s happening in Iraq … People don’t understand why we’re spending $500 billion and counting in Iraq.”
…Groups taking part in the new campaign are the Center for American Progress, USAction, MoveOn.org, VoteVets.org, Service Employees International Union and Americans United for Change.
What Reuters forgot to mention:
The Center for American Progress is Clintonista John Podesta’s think tank funded with Soros cash.
MoveOn is a Soros operation.
USAction is tied to Soros.
VoteVets.org’s chief adviser is Soros-backed Gen. Wesley Clark. And Americans United for Change is a Soros-linked, BDS front group.
How about a full disclosure and truth in labeling, Reuters?
Google is your friend.

There’s also the missed angle of John McCain’s own Soros ties.
But that’s apparently much too complicated and narrative-blowing for the MSM to dig into…

If I remember correctly, Soros vowed to defeat Bush in 2004 — with every penny if necessary. I thought by now he was supposed to be broke.
Well, it’s grass-roots alright. Except, it’s that “other” type of grass they’re talking about, I believe.
We wouldn’t want them to have to…*gasp*…have to actually research anything printed in the MSM, Michelle.
In one corner we have Billionaire Soros, in the other corner we have Big Oil. Iraq is sitting on a whole bunch of Oil, American Companys have signed contracts with Iraq to pump that Oil. Right now Oil is over 100 Million Dollars a barrell, sorry I couldn’t help myself 100 dollars a barrell. We live in the Era of Petrol Politics…hmmm..who is going to win Soros or Big Oil..hmmm Oily Politicians…like getting greased. GRIN. well this is not a real cliff hanger is it
Good point AChefty but our good friends the Democrats never learn. If they did, they wouldn’t regurgitate communism and socialism as much as they do.
Silky – crawl back into your hole. Every presidential election you manage pull yourself out from obscurity, make a-go at it and realize that not many people see “two Americas” and you have to bow out. Read the writing on the wall. We do not like you $300 haircut man.
I’m with Barry F.
If the MSM did the job they are/were supposed to do, we would have no need for bloggers who are doing the job the MSM is/was supposed to do.
Not to be splitting hairs (no pun intended….well, maybe a little), 30, but John Edwards campaign paid $400 for his haircut.
I stand corrected Barry F.
Of course, whether it was $300 or $400, that is enough to get haircuts for my wife, my children and me for several months. Obviously, Edwards was right – “There are two Americas”.
Perish the thought! What would we do without our beloved Michelle?
Have no fear, AC. I am certain we don’t have to worry about the MSM ever being unabashedly honest and thorough in their reporting. Michelle is here to stay, as long as she wants (IMHO).
What a suprise, Soros the worlds richest Socialist is funding a defeat McCain campaign, seems to me that all McCain-Fiengold did was screw McCain in so many ways.
I don’t think it’s grass roots when you have a billionaire backing you.
I don’t think Reuters suffers from trying to maintain accuracy in its use of descriptors, BM, as evidenced by their reference to Soros funded ventures as “grass roots“. They, like so many other MSM outlets, play pretty fast and loose with adjectives, when it suits their fancy.
Is it wrong for me to enjoy a little schadenfreude as McCain’s mediacrat buddies turn on him one by one?
Soros is throwing good money after bad…McCain said, we will be in Iraq for a hundred more years, Big Oil said, your our man. Who has more money to throw at oily politicians? George Soros or muliti billion dollar oil industry? Obama: We are getting the hell out of Iraq…Big Oil Really?
Remember George Soros also put together a new 527 called The Fund for America in the lead up to this election cycle after his last one America Coming Together, got hit for a 750,000 fine due to violation of how they accounted for their money allocation.
It is very likely that this new 527 is funding the caused Michelle listed in her posting. Basically it is a shell to pass through money to the front line 527s and there are few donation limits for the new 527.
It is tied in with the SEIU and in fact even shares the same building address along with it. One of the major players in the SEIU was one of the founders. That is Anna Burger also of Change to Win.
Board members include Rob McKay, the chairman of the Democracy Alliance; Anna Burger of Change to Win; and John Podesta, of the Center for American Progress.
I would rather pay the Generals’ bill than the Butcher’s bill.
George Soros Funds New Front Group
February 8, 2008 – Atheist billionaire George Soros is once again pouring money into front groups to influence the presidential election.
This time, he has given $2.5 million to a new group called Fund for America. It is run by Clinton retread John Podesta, Taco Bell heir Rob McKay, and Anna Burger of the Service Employees International Union.
The new group is a 527 that will raise soft money to influence elections. The group plans on running ads aimed at helping Democrats. Podesta also runs another Soros front group, the Center for American Progress.
Rob McKay gave $345,000 to Soros front, America Coming Together (ACT) during the 2004 election. ACT had to pay the Federal Election Commission $775,000 to settle a campaign finance violation. Burger’s union donated $4 million to ACT during the 2004 campaign.
Joseph Onek, a former Soros attorney with the Open Society Institute, was hired last February to become the senior counsel to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. “It appears that Soros’ web of anti-family subversion has even reached into Pelosi’s office,” said Lafferty. Onek formerly served in the Jimmy Carter administration.
The Soros web also includes: America Coming Together, Center for American Progress, the Service Employees International Union, NARAL Pro-Choice America, MoveOn.org, Ms. Foundation for Women; Center for the Community Change and dozens more.
Isn’t Soros wanted for something in France or something? I mean they want to take him to court for something? Don’t we extradite to France?

Big Oil as you put it does not want the destruction of America like Soros does.
Looks like McCain is getting “Soros-Boated”
Surely you jest?
kinda like the A(WT)P?
or The Slimes (either coast)
etc….
But the roots of the “other” kind of grass are so bitter when they go up in flames…oh, I get it!
/sarc
How difficult can it be? All the “grass
smokin’roots organization” has to do is cut and paste the words of the “conservative” pundits on radio and blogoshpere. Coulter, Limbaugh and the rest have dug up all the ammunition they’ll need, and have hammered on it with manic relentlessness.how many “grass roots campaigns” does anyone know of that has $20 million to throw at something like that?
Has anyone checked Soros’s immigration status you know there might be a reason he is all up in arms about the undocumented people in this country..I mean what if he is one? He would have to subvert our will from outside our boundrys. It is just a thought. Green Card status? over stayed his visa I know he has over stayed his welcome.
George Soros you can’t fight Big Oil and Win.
If “swiftboating” means being attacked by astroturf organizations from the other side funded by rich people with an ax to grind (a reasonable description of the Republican swiftboat operation), I say: by all means, let it happen to McCain. Bring it on.
But alas, moveon.org is not a Soros operation any more (was it ever?). It lives on internet donations from liberals much like the NRA lives on donations from gun enthusiasts and “second amendment supporters”.
LOL…now now (John) McCain… Soros wasn’t reaching to get your wallet to stuff it full of money again… he was finding a nice spot to shove the knife.
You sleep with dogs….don’t cry to us when you wake up with fleas.
The “grass-roots” is so concerned about the cost of the war.Why aren’t they concerned about the rising cost of food, brought on because of their idiotic acceptance of environmentalist bullcrap?
Am I the only one who sees the stupidity of coverting food into gasoline substitutes?Especially when the substitute is more damaging to the environment than gasoline.Mindless morons.I’m quite sure the real “grass-roots” are far more concerned with matters other than the monetary cost of war.Of course with the MSM spinning stories to suit their own agenda, how can we expect those who can’t(or won’t)do a little research to make informed decisions?
Oh well, thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
Given that these are all Keynsians, they’re supposed to want more government spending to stimulate the economy! I guess that just counts for the kind of government spending they prefer – on themselves.
Poison Ivy.
lgm, have you seen their tax return? Did they break out their sources of receipts on their return or some other disclosure? If so, it would be interesting to see. Can you share?
